Do you like natural/neutral makeup?
Do you like natural/neutral makeup? Your style? Only when you have to?
I like it, actually – it’s not just something I’ll opt for because the occasion requires it.

Nope, I like living outside the box, well really living with no box 🙂
Yup, I love natural/neutral makeup! However, I am not so confined to a box that I don’t wear, like, or appreciate other styles. I get so tired of people acting like just because something isn’t their taste that it’s ugly and no one else should wear it, either. For example, I wore MAC Watch Me Simmer the day it arrived in the mail; all the other makeup I had on was toned down, yet people were giving me nasty ass looks in the store like I was wearing something SOOO out there. I just think it’s pretty sad when other people care so much about another person’s style of makeup like it personally impacts their quality of life, LOL.
AND…I’m kind of hoping for a NAKED 3 Palette from UD. I’m hoping the next will be a super balanced palette with cool/neutral/warm, light/medium/dark, and an array of finishes like half more on the matte/satin and the other half shimmer/metallic/micro-glitter.
I’d also be down for an all matte palette with a fair balance in the undertone and color depth department. I’d also be down for a neutral palette with an edge or twist that somehow made the neutrals more interesting.
I’d love a Naked 3 like that! I hope they do the packaging like the first one though. I don’t like the packaging of the second one at all.
I’m torn between the packaging of 1 and 2. I have things I like and dislike with each. I also don’t want to see another brush included; I think most people already have brushes they use and love, so it’s just kind of a pointless addition, IMO. I think it would be cool to see a full size liner or mini liner or a glitter liner as one of the added pieces.
I do like it, but I don’t like the attitude that only neutral makeup is ‘good’ (some people have it, unfortunately). I’ve actually been doing semi-natural looks lately because I’ve been too lately to properly doll myself up 🙂
Not at all. I have no interest in makeup if it’s not bright or colorful.
I like it on other people, but I find that it often doesn’t work on me because of my features- super pale skin, dark eyes, dark hair. Usually neutral/natural makes me look kinda dead- I like how I look wayy better with something dark around my eyes.
I have the same issue! Anything that neutral really is super warm and I look so awkward cuz I’m a very very fair Asian. But instead of dark, I opt for fun brights or pastels, it suits my baby faace better xD
I think that every person’s colouring has its own neutrals – for example, I have very deep colouring (Dark hair, dark eyes – think Ziva from NCIS) I’m neutral leaning cool, so I don’t look good in reddish browns or beiges – nude lips generally look horrible on me because my face naturally has a lot of colour, and my lips are naturally closer to a medium plum pink! So I do look good in neutral makeup, just MY neutrals – not anything light or pale or milky because that would be anything BUT natural. On me.
On someone else who was lighter, fairer and cooler I can imagine a milky pink lip looking beautiful, so I think neutral depends on each person’s colour palette and what flatters them. Rather then the general idea of what “neutral” is about which tends to be a washed out mixture of browns.
Have you girls heard of Sci/Art colour analysis? Its a great way of finding what shades are most flattering on you and explains why some things look amazing on some people and not on others:

Here’s a great article about Winters in particular! I’m a deep winter, which is helpful to know and explains why rather than a pale pink or beige lip, it looks much more natural for me to wear something like sheer wine red, or sheer plum!
I have coloring close to yours and I feel like bright colors don’t really work on me. I don’t think I look dead with a neutral look because my hair and eyes are so dark/skin is so pale that there’s already a lot of contrast going on. I already look like I’m wearing eyeliner (yay?) so I just skip that step. As a kid, I loved the whole Snow White look but “lips red as blood” is just too dramatic for my every day look. The colors that flatter me are always ones that are just a shade or two deeper than my natural color.
I love neutral make-up. To spruce it up I’ll use a bright colored eyeliner. It’s the only eye look I can achieve with confidence!
Yeah, I’ve been wearing my makeup more natural lately.
I have nothing against it, just hate it when people are dependent on it or never have the guts to explore colors.
I also like it on others, but I don’t like it on myself cuz I rather just not wear makeup most of the time cuz I am confident in the way I look, and I’m too fond of my colors to not wear them at all in a look.
I hate neutral makeup. I’d rather go out crazy and fun than neutral and boring.
But, what I hate more is when people put on makeup, just to try to look like you’re not wearing any. If people do that, I think they shouldn’t bother with makeup at all. Or only wear foundation.
I like natural/neutral makeup, if that means minimal makeup in soft shades. In fact, it’s what I wear most of the time. What I don’t like is “no makeup” makeup, because to me that feels like selling a lie. When I wear makeup, I wear it for the colors, not to try to fool other people into thinking I’m “naturally flawless” or something.
no.not at all.that is what colors are for.
Not until recently, actually! I’m on a neutral kick lately, although I’d still opt for a red lipstick when I can. 😉 I find that the classic combination is great for when you’re pressed for time or too lazy to think up a color combination.
I prefer neutral shades that are not too boring, though. MAC Patina is a good example of this category. <3
it depends on the defination of natural makeup..
I love all the taupe, tan, mustard colours on me and they look v natural on. I also love the look I get from UD naked palette.
but i do not like people trying too hard to pretend they don’t have makeup on while applying makeup…
in this case, why would you even wear any if you really is so natural!?? 😀
It’s what I do 95% of the time!
As long as my eyes are well defined with eyeliner and a flick, yeah, I don’t need any color. 😀 Idk if it’s 100% natural but it’s neutral 🙂
not my style at all!
YES! I’m a strong believer of makeup being a tool to enhance your beauty and no hide it that’s why I practically only put on neutrals. However, I do have my days where I’ll done a bright lip or cheek, but with shadows I’ll normally dwell on a pop of color on my lower lash line but never the full on bright shadow.
That!
Yup, totally! I do enjoy colors as well, but my favorite style is more like neutral with a pop (like some color on my lower lash line)! Neutrals are just so easy to wear. You don’t have to think what pairs with what for too long, and I’m lazy!
I love it!
I usually do my make up before I get ready, and with neutrals, I never have to worry 🙂
I love neutral eye shadows but never a “nude” lip. I’ve always got colour on my lips and cheeks but for eyes – I’ll take a neutral shadow/look any day of the week (almost!).
I love natural/neutral makeup…it does what makeup is suppose to do, enhance your natural beauty. I do wear bold looks as well though.
I usually go for natural colors. It’s the perfect office look. I prefere brighter or darker color at the weekend or in the evening.
My thoughts exactly! Natural/neutral for everyday wear, and color for special occasions and outings! =)
While I enjoy my blues, and purples, sometimes it’s nice to just stay neutral. I enjoy it. I love to grab my naked palettes for a simple, non-OTP look.
Ye I do. I use it a lot because of my work but I really enjoy the neutral shades.
I do like it, but I couldn’t be all natural all the time ( makeup would get too boring for me then)
Natural make up is my go to for everyday. I’ll adds darker shade and black liner night with a pop of color on the lip also, but O’ pretty much a natural girl all the time.
I do love natural colours on my eyes, but for my lips & nails I definatly need some colour! (not necceceraly(sp?) bright though))
A bit. I like my eye/face makeup neutral, but generally I do that because my “look” usually involves a bold lip. I’m fine with natural makeup that’s about playing up a woman’s best features while still letting her face shine. Plus, I’m lazy. 😛 Bold makeup can take a lot of work and precision, and I’m usually on the move during the week. I will drift into the bolder shades when I’m feeling up to it, though.
I will say I am very much against the Hollywood idea of “natural” makeup, where they glop pounds of makeup on a woman’s face to create the illusion of perfection that really isn’t there. Maybe I’m just old-fashioned and sentimental, but for me, I want to see some of the tiny flaws and lines that say “human” on a woman’s face. It’s why airbrushing is such a turn-off for me in makeup campaigns – why would I want to look like a mannequin?
I’m really into neutral makeup. it appeals to me personally a lot more than wearing brighter, more colorful makeup. I’m not sure why. I guess I’m a pretty simple person when it comes to cosmetics.
Not a fan of the neutral look at all and never wear it unless absolutely forced to. I’ve got black hair, dark eyes and pale-ish skin (except when the 115 degree summer inadvertently tans me), so I think I can pull off a bold look with bright colours or intense contrasts. Plus, I have an aversion to Brown or Beige in *every* part of my life.
What she said! Especially the brown/beige aversion.
I love neutral/natural makeup, but I also enjoy being colorful as well. It just depends on my mood. Sometimes I defer to a neutral palette out of sheer indecisiveness. I get the most complements when I wear neutrals because my eyes just really pop. That said, I love color coordinating/contrasting with my outfits because for me that’s the fun and intrigue of makeup.
I do trend more toward natural/neutral looks. Being 48 years old, pushing the envelope too far can make me look ridiculous.
I love neutral/natural eye makeup!!! It’s actually the only kind I’ll wear, I think dramatic styles overwhelm my face and make my features look smaller…
I think a lot of people (men and women) love their versatility; that’s why neutral palettes like the Naked I and II palettes were so loved and appreciated when they debuted in the market! 😀
Please show some more reviews on neutral makeup items in the future, I think we all look forward to them!!
I love natural/neutral make up and tend to wear my make up like that pretty often. I think it suits me better than something bright and colorful but I like and admire when other people wear gorgeous colorful make up.
I do. I wear it pretty much every day and often I wear my own skin as my makeup because I have gotten it in such good condition. I will just put on a neutral eye, put a little cheek sheer gel on and that’s it for me. I like really neutral eyeshadows like the soft ones that Tarte has made in palettes (vol 1 and 2) and I really love the first UD Naked palette for eyes. I will wear a light liner if I put one on at all – sometimes just line my under eye and of course brows in blond as I have no brows. It’s all very soft and no glaring color – I generally wear lip balm now days instead of lipsticks as they all were making my lips peel.
Like it? I love it! I live it! While I’m a fan of colors and use colors quite often, natural makeup is my forte. There are so many ways to enhance my natural beauty with neutral makeup to make it appear like I’m naturally that flawless and I’m not wearing any makeup.
Definitely the neutral look for me.
I do really like neutral makeup, and I probably wear it about 75% of the time. It’s nice to just look natural sometimes, especially when I’m going to be outside and don’t want to worry about my makeup running, or if I’m feeling particularly confident about my hair or outfit that day and don’t want my makeup to detract from it. When I do color, I always balance it – colorful eye, neutral lip, or neutral eye and bold lip.
I personally love dark purples and blacks for my eye makeup, it really suits my face better I think. And when I’m not wearing that it’s super bright colours! But I really don’t mind if someone only wears natural makeup, because if that’s what they feel beautiful wearing, then that is what suits them best! What I hate is the attitude some people have when it comes to neutral makeup. If someone feels uncomfortable wearing brights or otherwise just prefers the look, then they shouldn’t be critised or shamed. Everyone should have the freedom to wear what they like!
I like natural and also bright colors it depends on what I’m wearing or the look I’m going for at that time
I prefer a neutral/natural look for myself, with a bold lip. Color looks good on other people- it just isn’t for me. However- I’m not into the extreme- it screams I NEED ATTENTION and detracts from the wearers beauty.
Yes! I love natural/neutral makeup! I like to change it up with “not too flashy” pastel lip colors.
I love using it as a way to emphasize other parts of my look, or when I’m not sure what colors to pair together! But I can’t be bothered to do completely “no makeup” makeup — I’d rather just not do it at all and save some time.
Yes! And someday I may actually succeed in making my make up look natural. But first they’ll have to eradicate any colors from my reach because my hands won’t stay off that Pink Simmer lippie. And I wound up with a backup by mistake- here’s to bright colors and wrinkles, Cheers!
Seriously, I do like it. But all that brown make up in the Nineties was dispiriting. I think that has me reaching for color, it’s fun.
Whatever makeup is appropriate for my environment, I’m happy with it. I worked in the banking industry for three years, so I had to wear neutral makeup for work, but I also sometimes added an accent color for the eyes once in a while with liner, or a bit of shadow in the crease or corner. On my personal time, I like dramatic eyes. As for cheek color, I prefer neutral colors, as bright pinks/oranges/purples look too “dated” (they were big in the ’80s); the same goes for lips.
I thought of this after I posted my initial comment last night…
While I love neutral makeup, I HATE when people mute out their entire face to the point where it no longer looks natural/neutral pretty, but flat and dull.
I was watching a YT vid, and the person’s makeup made their skin and face look lifeless, dull, and flat. It all blended together. The face looked muddy and the lips washed out. The eye makeup was pretty, but the face and lips with the eyes made it just look flat, flat, flat. It was driving me bonkers. I will give the benefit of the doubt and say it was the lighting or just the appearance of it on film.
Point of my rant…neutral makeup is great, but not when the entire face is muted so much. BALANCE, people. Natural faces have life and color!
Omg! I know what you mean! I HATE HATE HATE THAT! Matte face, no cheek color, almost bare yes, concealer or borderline concealer lips are just TERRIBLE! What happened to the healthy youthful flush of pink to the lips and cheeks???? I guess I also tend to hate beige-y cheek and lip colors. That’s nt natural and pretty, that’s just….bland.
Also, nudes skin color lip color on small or thin lips are just the worse…totally makes them disappear. I call them voldemort lips.
I generally go for colourful eyeshadows with just a clear or sheer gloss on my lips and a little bit of blush. But I am starting to get into bold lips and I like to pair that with a “nude” eye. So yeah, I do like it. But I also love colour.
LOVE neutral makeup….for some reason really bright and flashy makeup just doesn’t work on my face. The other reason is because I’m not good at applying it!!!! =)
I like wearing neutral makeup for everyday, but love going a little crazier with the colors when I go out 🙂
I like to see the makeup I’m wearing. What’s the point of wearing makeup you can’t see. lol
Yes
i dont know, i dont have any “natural” colors cuz those wouldnt be the ones i reach for. should try a neutral makeover sometime…
i usually do neutral makeup, if i ever do it, since my workplace is quite the conservative type, i doubt they’ll be okay with me in bright bold colours. for weekends or if i m seeing friends, i will definitely put on brighter colours, usually on the lips! 😛
