Tutorial - Moonbathe Look (Warm dark eye)

This tutorial is designed to show you how to create a fairly dark and dramatic eye using MAC’s recent Moonbathe collection as inspiration. It is full of deep raspberry colors and utilizes a gradient of color to work.

Skill Level: Moderate

Note: This tutorial is designed for more advanced users who grasp and understand the basic concepts of makeup application, blending, and other related techniques. I strongly suggest viewing some of the more detailed articles and tutorials that better describe basic techniques for less advanced users. To view a more detailed tutorial to gain a better understanding of the techniques applied here, please view this one or this one.

Eyes: Apricot Pink pigment (mixed with MAC’s water-based mixing medium as your base), Firespot eyeshadow (warm orange color), Cranberry eyeshadow (raspberry color), Sable Wrap eyeshadow (same as Saturnal eyeshadow, dirty dark olive green), Say Yeah (highlighter with pink undertones), Grain eyeshadow (highlighter with neutral undertones), Graphblack technakohl (black kohl liner), and black mascara.
Face: If you’d like to compliment the eyes, use Afterdusk blush (darker pink-purple) on apples of cheeks, Astral Rays glimmershimmer (creamy white-beige) on top of cheeks and temple, and Harmony blush (brown/gray) to contour cheeks.
Lips: For matching lips, try New York Apple lipstick (deep raspberry) with Moonbathe lipglass (peachy pink).

Apply Apricot Pink pigment all over lid and above crease.

Apply Firespot eyeshadow over Apricot Pink pigment on inner lid.

Apply Cranberry eyeshadow to middle of lid.

Apply Sable Wrap (or Saturnal) eyeshadow to outer lid and outer crease.

Apply Say Yeah eyeshadow above crease.

Apply Grain eyeshadow above.

Apply Sable Wrap eyeshadow to outer lower lash line and Firespot eyeshadow to inner to outer lower lash line.

This is your finished product.

that look is great! i love all your tutorials. i do have a few questions….
1) where in the drugstore would i find the glycerin you used to make your own mixing medium?
2) do you apply lispstick straight from teh tube or do you use a lipbrush? same thing with the lipgloss afterwards – do you use a separate lipbrush or the one that comes in the tubes (some are like lipbrushes, others like a foam tip)
3) what does FOTD stand for?

thanks again – i have my own plate of 15 colors from mac and will definitely refer to your website for inspiration.

Hey Allie! 🙂

1) You can find liquid glycerin in the first aid aisle, usually – where you’d find witchhazel, rubbing alcohol, etc.

2) I apply lipstick from the tube, and depending on the lipglass, from the wand or using a separate brush. If it’s a light lipglass on top of a darker lipstick, I’ll probably use a different brush than the one that came with it.

3) It stands for Face Of The Day 😀

My pleasure, doll!

Hi temptalia

Your eye makeup is sensational! I love how you use Say Yeah above the crease, it really pulls a look together. But I can’t find this eyeshadow in our stores. Could you give recommendations for eyeshadows to substitute Say Yeah?

Thanks so much! 🙂

Any very simple tutorials?
