NP Set by Napoleon Perdis Tested and Approved
NP Set by Napoleon Perdis is a line designed for and carried by Target. I’ve used a few Napoleon Perdis products in the past (China Doll foundation being one of them–which was fab, though pricey), and I haven’t been disappointed. I was interested to see how NP Set would meet my expectations. This post is only about the lipsticks (not the primer pictured above). The lipsticks in Rio and Boston Cream Ginger ($15.00) were the ones that I ended up giving a try.
Rio is described as a brick red, but it’s too subdued to be a real brick red. I’d say it is a pinked brick red if anything. It’s a nice color, though, nonetheless; it’s perfect for fall and winter. It’s not pastel or pink or springy in the least bit, but it’s also not overly vampy or dark. It should work with most skin tones. The lipstick formula itself is matte in finish, but it is not at all drying–very moisturizing for a matte. In the lip swatch, you’ll notice despite being advertised as a matte, there is still some noticeable sheen.
Boston Cream Ginger is an incredibly creamy coral-melon color. It’s definitely one of those colors I’m drawn to, because corals are my favorites! The creaminess factor is a huge plus, because a lipstick should be moisturizing and hydrating. It should never dry your lips out! Since I can’t reapply balm throughout the day when I have lipstick on, I only bother wearing lipsticks that keep my lips soft and pouty. This one also has a lot of glossiness in its finish, which makes it incredibly wearable without adding any gloss whatsoever–something I rarely feel comfortable doing!
I’m very impressed by these lipsticks, and I wouldn’t mind checking out the other shades the next time I’m at Target (but I avoid going at all costs–I always end up with a cart filled with 99% of things I didn’t intend to buy!).
Check out skin and lip swatches…

Boston Cream Ginger
OOh! That Boston Cream Ginger does look nice. Good to know, I wanted to try some of the lipsticks but wasn’t really sure. It does look like a good buy though.
I liked the original Napoleon Perdis products, and what’s nice is I haven’t seen a decline in quality with the NP Set line.
I love how you take your photos with those cute little rocks. They look great!
LOL! I need to find something new, but I haven’t figured what yet.
BCG is super awesome…but it hurts me to spend more on a lipstick at Target than I do at MAC!
I can understand that mentality! I don’t go to Target for high end makeup shopping, you know? I go to Target with bargain buying in mind!
i saw the primer at Target and tried some of it on my hand… it felt nice… but i don’t know if i’m willing to fork out 29 dollars for it just yet… will you be doing a review for it? I would so appreciate it if you did! believe me, your opinion matters!
If it has silicone in it, I will be staying away, I’ve tried two now and two serious break outs are enough for me, LOL. Otherwise I will give it a chance.
Rio looks pretty but I’m with SnickerDoodle on the price.
I can’t remember if these are less or the same as the original Napoleon Perdis lipsticks. Hmm.
Oh, I really like Rio!
Pity I don’t have a Target anywhere near me.
Aww 🙁
Heh, Napoleon over here is reasonably priced, while MAC is crazy expensive.
LOL, that’s very true.
I just want everyone to know that 2 months ago I thought I’d give the NP Set eyeliner in black a try. Yes I spent the money on this item at Target. I have now bought 3 of these. This is by far the best eyeliner, and I have tried many top brands at Sephora over the years. It stays true all day, even coming out of the tanning bed. This is a great product and I now am willing to try more of this brand.
So great to hear this, Lori!
