NYX Hot Yellow Eyeshadow
NYX Hot Yellow Eyeshadow
NYX Hot Yellow Eyeshadow ($5.00 for 0.09 oz.) is a pale, pastel-like yellow with a frosted sheen. It has decent color payoff, but it’s not as dense as some other NYX eyeshadows. It also felt powderier and was less true-to-pan in terms of color; it looks much lighter, which could be a result of the higher pearl/frost content. Make Up For Ever #102 is a bit more pastel and has a matte finish. MAC Gorgeous Gold is a little yellower and has more iridescence.
While the texture was undeniably soft, it had a definite powdery feel that wasn’t easy to mitigate, even knowing that NYX’s eyeshadows are softer (compared to say MAC eyeshadows, which tend to be harder–not necessarily a bad thing!), so there was some fall out. Â The color payoff could have been better, too, because it had an underlying sheerness and the softness of the shade, while providing for a smooth look, made it just as easy to blend out the color so it looked almost faded. Â Without a base, this shade lasts four to five hours and then begins to look noticeably faded. Â With a base, I had better results, though after nine hours, it did seem a bit faded.

I totally agree, I purchased this color from a Hautelook sale once and ended up throwing it away. The color was not what it appeared to be on my NC50 skintone. Shame too because the color is so nice in the pan.
Holy beans! Where did the color go? I love bright eyeshadows, but this one makes me sad with the lackluster payoff. Gonna have to pass. Thank you for saving me $5!!
Woah. This is pretty bad. I’m a big fan of NYX, but I feel a little deceived when I see the swatch.
I will always love the MUFE Yellow I got.
Ugh. I was hoping for a decent yellow from NYX. Guess I’ll hop on over to Sugarpill and get one of their quads.
Bummer. With a pigmentation that sheer, I can’t even tell what was the intended finish… metallic, maybe? I’m not into yellows, but Inglot’s 403, a very pigmented yellow gold, looks like an exact dupe of Hot Yellow on me because I use very lightly as a highlighter. That and Sunny spot by MAC are my only yellows. Anyways, between Inglot, MAC, MUFE and so many others, I’m sure we’re not on a yellow shortage!
This looks like the one from NYX’s I dream of St Lucia palette. That one’s weak and powdery too.
What? Hot Yellow is the name and the swatch is so mehhhhhh….
I am always on the look out for the perfect yellow eyeshadow, and this looks so pretty in the pan. What a shame!
Too bad about the poor pigmentation, It would be an awesome colour if it was pigmented. Great review as always 🙂
Yuk….like mustard
Hey Christine, I really appreciate you reviewing NYX products. They seem to get a lot of mixed reviews and it’s nice to get a professional opinion on them.
Wow what a fail, especially for NYX. Their “Mellow Yellow” eyeshadow is much better though. I recommend that one in place of Hot Yellow.
That swatch is so disappointing! I could get that same color from extra-buttered popcorn.
It’s disappointing that it isn’t really a “hot” yellow. It’s still pretty though..
That looks rather disappointing
That’s like the biggest, bummeriest eyeshadow fail ever. :<
Thank you for doing a Nyx review! I love Nyx and love when they are reviewed/swarched. They are decent quality and affordable. Please do more.
Whoa, what a difference! Sad face.
