Haul: Sephora Pro Pigment Palette (editorial), some charcoal for whitening my teeth

Weekend plans: Dinner, Maybe a paint & Sip, Community Service, Bible Study

Rain or shine?: Shine unless I’m trying to sleep, then rain.

Joyce Avatar

Haul: Aveeno Brightening cleaner, Shiseido Benefiance SPF 18 Day Emulsion, Remington SmartPro flat iron, Maybelline Matte & Poreless foundation (220), Maybelline Total Temptation waterproof mascara

Weekend plans: I have to work both Saturday & Sunday. Kind of bummed because those are the only days I get to see my husband. A friend’s farewell party Saturday night 🙂

Rain or shine?: Wow this is a loaded question for me, lol! I love shine during the winter but not so much during spring/summer because that means bees and wasps that will kill me. I love thunderstorms. And I actually feel really heavily burdened when it doesn’t rain for a while because there might be droughts!

Alice Avatar

Haul: BareMinerals BB primer spf 30 and deluxe samples of Herbivore face mist and Ouai hair oil from Sephora. A clear “NFL stadium compliant” purse for Hawaii since Pearl Harbor doesn’t allow bags/purses. I’m waffling on ordering some brushes from ulta with the 20% off, but I hate paying shipping and I really don’t want to spend $50.

Weekend Plans: Just the usual chores & hockey. Finally getting back into a normal schedule lol.

Rain or shine: Cloudy but no precipitation during the day, rain at night.

Julia Avatar

Haul: I used my Ulta 20% coupon to pick up the Lancome Glow for It palettes in Amethyst Radiance and Ruby Brilliance (because I really needed more highlighters, ha…) and UD Bobby Dazzle Vice lipstick

Weekend plans: Costco run, then stay inside and snuggle my pups – it’s cold!

Rain or shine?: Sunny sunshine, please!

Joan Avatar

Haul: Ulta haul/last of the birthday money went to – some NYX eyeliners, a few Stila Shimmer & Glows (Cloud, Freedom, Carefree & Kitten), Dose Liquid Lipsticks (Play it Cool & Sweet N’ Sassy), Sponges, Bareminerals Concealer, MUR Concealer, NYX Lavender Steel, WnW Blossom Glow, and UD Love Drunk.

Weekend plans: Not sure. Pretty casual- maybe go to a museum, go to Red Lobster with friends, Something for the Superbowl and hopefully meal prep!

Rain or shine?: I love the smell of rain and my perfect afternoon would definitely involve me sitting in a comfy chair with it raining-open window
just cozy reading. But as far having to get things done- shine!

Ginny Avatar

HAUL: I bought one of those mermaid tail brushes at Marshall’s for $5. It looks more like a fish but it’s really cute and fun to use. I think it’s supposed to be for foundation…. But my intention was for it to be a highlighter brush (because that’s more “mermaidy” to me). It’s not a very good brush for powder, though lol! It’s really stiff so it scratches at the product and picks it up in chunks. I have only used it with Reserve Your Cabana, so I will try it on something firmer like the Bobbi Brown ones. Whatever, I still enjoy it, it’s a bit of fun on my vanity.

I like a dreary day in early fall because it’s a change of pace for that time of year. This time of year I’ve had enough gloom already!

Kate Avatar

Haul: Bite Aquarius. I’ve been very disciplined this month, but the idea that there’s a collection of Amuse Bouche lipsticks with a zodiac theme… Too much.
Weekend plans: Working! One of the weird things about working from home is that the “weekend” concept gets pretty fuzzy.
Rain or shine?: Oof. Shine, since the sun does put me in a good mood, but I love a good storm and a thick fog on a regular basis. I think I’m happiest when the weather surprises me a bit- a cool wind in the summer, spring-like warmth in January, etc.

Anne Avatar

Haul: The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA, The Ordinary Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG, FENTY BEAUTY by Rihanna Mattemoiselle Plush Matte Lipstick S1ngle and Midnight Wasabi, FENTY BEAUTY by Rihanna Stunna Lip Paint Longwear Fluid Lip Color Uncensored, SEPHORA COLLECTION Tough As Nails Deluxe Manicure Kit Striped. Also a rain jacket from Superdry that is awesome and what I have dubbed my “ewok” hoodie from Uniqlo as it has a fluffy brown inner lining which I LOVE. I blame my sister and her boyfriend for having style as opposed to all the Portlanders I see.

Weekend plans: REST! My sister was in town from Monday-Wednesday and while it was great it definitely overtaxed my chronic pain (which is already not recovered from the wisdom teeth thing but I have more injections lined up with a pain doc for that)

Rain or shine?: Rain with the occasional shine. I like it cold and I don’t like it bright so rain it is.

Blue Avatar

Great haul! I’ve been enjoying The Ordinary stuff I picked up (retinoid, AHA, vitamin C) and Fenty is awesome. I’m on a lipstick no-buy right now, but if I weren’t I would probably pick up Midnight Wasabi and Stunna. Ya Dig? was my one for the road before the no-buy started. 😉

Kiss My Sass ($5 off): February Subscription Box

Kitten Empire Cosmetics (25% off): Tim Burton Eyeshadow Collection (Beetlejuice, Coraline, Alice in Wonderland)

LA Splash (25% off – my Affiliate Code – BINX): Spotlight Mascara (Jet Black, Fiber Primer)

Ulta (20% off one item): Dose of Colors Lip Gloss (Dolly, Just My Type), Nyx Professional Makeup – Metallic Eyeliner (Copper), Strictly Vinyl Eyeliner (Hazy, Dauntless), $5 Reward Card (GWP), Philosophy 3 Pc Set (GWP)

Ulta (20% off one item): Dose of Colors Lip Gloss (Happy Hour), Nyx Professional Makeup (Complete Control Blending Sponge – 2), Essence Out of Space Stories Nail Polish (01 Outta Space is the Place), Essence Vibrant Shock Lash & Brown Gel (05 Copper Up), Essence Long-Lasting Eye Pencil (Tu-Tu Turquoise 17), $% Reward Card (GWP)

Weekend plans: Swatching/blog. I want to return the 2 Flower Holo lippies I bought from Ulta – one came broken and the other is absurdly sheer and meh. Mani. Dye my hair (really needs to be done!) I am planning to sell my Irregular Choice shoe collection so I need to photograph all of them (I think I have about a dozen or so and all but 2 pair weren’t worn). I became an affiliate/promoter with 2 retailers (not makeup) this week so I need to go through that material and think about marketing – I will only market what I own or can stand behind. I also want to try to catch up on some reading.

Rain or shine?: Shine as long as it isn’t hot. Although I just got the raincoat I ordered (it’s clear with Nightmare Before Christmas print over it) so kind of hoping for a little rain so I get a chance to wear it soon!

Tammy Avatar

Haul: I am so excited! My Guerlain Rouge G in Geraldine arrived from Nordstrom yesterday and I’m wearing it today!! I love pink lipsticks this time of year and am hoping to pick up Gemma later this month.

Ulta 20% off: Urban Decay LE Eye pencils in Alkaline and Torch, Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer in Cuzco (I’m just wearing it for the first time today, I like it today), PUR Eye polishes in Cashmere and Satin, MAC Prep and Prime Lip (repurchase), Nivea Men’s Sensitive Post Shave Balm (to try as a primer because of the hype, used it today under my tinted moisturizer and my skin does look very nice), Derma E Microdermabrasion Scrub with Dead Sea Salt (haven’t tried yet), and a two-pack of Clarisonic Dep Pore brush heads (been using these for years).

We got the news Wednesday, my Bergner’s is one of the 40+ stores closing. I’ve been there for 8 years and find myself most sad about leaving my coworkers. Today is also my last day on the psychiatric hospital unit where I have worked for the past decade of my life. Here I am most sad to be leaving my patients and their families. It has been my privilege to serve patients and their families during their crises and part of my heart will always be with people who have serious mental illness.

Plans: Family gathering for Super Bowl. I am not much of a football fan but I will enjoy hanging out with my daughters and grandchildren.

Sunshine all the way! I grew up in sunny Southern California, lived in Phoenix AZ for 16 years, and since moving to cloudy central Illinois about 18 years ago I have lamented the loss of sunshine in my life.

Weekend plans:

Tracey E. Avatar

Hi Tammy, I’m so sorry to hear that your Bergner’s store is closing. Chanel is closing all counters in Bon Ton stores, including the one at my local Boston Store. All staff are being assigned to other counters but there have been tears at the loss of this luxury brand (the closest Chanel counter is 1.5 hours away) and the relationship the makeup artists have with their customers who love this brand. (Some customers have said the Chanel counter was what brought them to the store.) I read with great worry that my local store would be on the list but it wasn’t this round. It’s really hard to close one door in order to open another. Do know how very important a difference you made to the patients and families who came into your care at a most difficult time in their lives. Truly proof that angels that walk among us.

Tammy Avatar

Tracey, I hope Bonton is able to pull through this but I think the odds are not in their favor.

Working both as a therapist and a beauty advisor, I can tell you there is some overlap in the two positions. The starting point the relationship between beauty advisor and client is a love (or perceived need) for cosmetics, and it can move from there to so much more. There are a lot of events in our lives (weddings, baptisms, proms, anniversaries, birthdays, funerals) that bring an emotional response, and those feelings have a natural tendency to come out when meeting with a trusted beauty advisor. Likewise, in a non competitive environment (some beauty departments are horribly cut throat, but in ours we supported and cared for one another), you develop relationships with colleagues that are equally therapeutic.

I am sorry you are losing a Chanel counter, that is a huge loss. We have not had a Chanel counter in approximately a decade, but if we did, I’d have a lot more Chanel in my collection. I go to Chicago three times a year and often get my makeup done at the Chanel counter when I am in town.

Thank you for your kind words. I can only say I love my clients and their families. I thought I would never find a calling after raising my children, but social work (advocating for disadvantaged populations and walking beside those who are struggling) has definitely captured my heart.

Genevieve Avatar

Hi Tammy – I guess you are grieving for two major changes – the closing of the beauty store you worked in for many years and the full time job you loved and cherished. It’s the people and the relationships created that make both places so special to you.

On the Superbowl – my son is an avid supporter of the NE Patriots and he is taking a day of annual leave to get up early tommorow morning (It’s Sunday here in Aus) to watch it wearing his lucky Zimbabwe cricket top (what Zimbabwe has to do with the superbowl is beyond me – but there you go).

Nancy T Avatar

Oh, those puppy dog eyes just melt my heart! ?

Haul: Placed another ColourPop order. Because I have to try those Lux Lipsticks, I ordered Getty and On Repeat, as well as Parallel highlight and Rodeo Drive bronzer. Waiting on a restock of Money Side Up, 27 and Uno Mas. Hit Ulta 2 days ago for my HG Essence Midnight In Paris Gel Liner, also bought MAC Fix+ and Batiste Dry Shampoo in Divine Dark.

Weekend plans: I’ve been sick since Wednesday night that I can only hope to get anything accomplished. But definitely hair, hopefully nails, meeting is a definite”do” because we have a phone tie-in. But I *really* need to go food shopping!

Rain or Shine?: Give me a rainy day at least once a month, and I’d be in 7th Heaven! A nice big torrential downpour during a summer thunderstorm is sooo refreshing! ⛈ It’s funny how when I lived in NJ, I would have instantaneously said “Shine”, because of it being equal amounts of both. But here? The sunshine can get boring as heck. ?

thirteenthirteen Avatar

Haul – I am on a no-buy but I am going on vacation soon so I went to Ulta and Target and picked up some travel minis. (Just basic hygiene, not makeup.) Nothing exciting, am proud of myself for passing by all the makeup!

Weekend plans: I feel like I might be coming down with something so I think taking it easy is my plan.

Rain or Shine: Both are good! Right now I would prefer rain because we need it and it only rains in the winter here. Once we get into spring the chance of rain is almost nonexistent so the window is closing.

monica Avatar

Haul: Nothing that I can think of at the moment. Perhaps I’ll use the 20% off

Weekend plans: Driving up to see the bestie and doing some maid of honor stuff

Rain or shine?: Definitely sunshine. I need the vitamin d in my life.

Mariella Avatar

Haul: Sephora Roasted Chestnuts and Tarte Pin Up eyeshadows.

Weekend plans: getting together at Donut Monster (not wild about donuts, personally, but they have SUCH FABULOUS coffee) with a friend, assuming we can get in the door! And the gym and I have to take some pants to be altered. And give myself some time to enjoy a book I started reading earlier this week – an older one from Deborah Crombie.

Rain or Shine – SHINE (but not too hot)

Chris Avatar

“Hey, Mom, how long do I have to pose for this?”

I was successful @ Ulta too. Bought the Lancôme single eye shadow in Nude Parfait (perfect for below the brow on me) & 2 Garnier Clearly Brighter Moisturizers With 30 SPF (B1G1 50% off). Had manufacturer’s coupons ($3 each for the Garnier stuff) and used my Ulta points.

Have a great weekend.

Lesley Avatar

What a handsome guy!

Haul: Rita Hazan Root Concealer Touch-Up Spray, DS of IT Cosmetics Confidence in a Cleanser and REN Ready Steady Glow Daily AHA Tonic, blister sample pack of Laura Mercier Flawless Fusion Ultra Longwear Foundation and Oil Free Foundation Primer, samples of Candleglow Concealer and Highlighter and Sheer Perfecting Powder, foils of Ole Hendriksen Find Your Balancr oil control cleanser, scrub and highlighter.

You can tell that Sephora thinks it is summer already with the oil free/ oil control samples. I think the Laura Mercier foundation will not work on older skin.

Weekend plans: just lounging around and doing some cooking.

Rain or shine: Shine during the day and rain at night. No greenery without rain.

Deborah S. Avatar

Haul: Kiehl’s 24 hour night recovery, Kiehl’s Firming Moisturizer, Benefit Roller Lash (repurchase) and L’Oréal Colour Riche Shine in Luminous Coral. I think I am about done purchasing the L’Oréal Shines, not because I don’t love them but because I have 5 shades now and none of the other current shades appeal to me.

Weekend plans: We are actually in Missoula right now so my plans are to shop, hit Ulta, Dillard’s and to get a flu shot. I wasn’t going to get one even though it is so bad this year but after all of the deaths and with a couple month old baby getting it in my home town I decided to go ahead and get it. I also want my daughter to get it as she is working with the public everyday.

Rain or shine: I don’t have a short answer for that question. It depends on how hot the shine is going to be. I am not a big fan of super warm temperatures so once it gets into the low 90’s I am all for a cooling rain. In general I prefer winter to summer, crazy I know.

AJ Avatar

Haul: Nothing. I wanted to buy some of the new ColourPop lipsticks but my budget said “no.”

Weekend plans: I’ve got a live music belly dance performance tonight (that I still need to figure out costume and makeup theme for). Probably going to mostly stay close to home and keep it cheap and simple for the rest of the weekend.

Rain or shine: I love the rain! But it’s been raining a lot here in WA so I wouldn’t mind a few days of sunshine just to dry out the apartment complex. It’s so muddy that there’s standing water in a lot of spots, which doesn’t make for a fun walking experience for my dog! When I walked her in the rain last night she had her ears pinned back the whole way, the poor dear. She is over this weather.

Genevieve Avatar

Mellon should be a model in doggie ads – he is so photogenic. What a sweet face.
Haul – nothing this week, still using up all my stash.

Weekend Plans: It was Lachlan’s 2nd birthday on Feb 1st, so we had a little family party at home, but on Saturday is the bigger party with other family members and playgroup friends. They are having it in a beautiful park with BBQ facilities, so I am making the salads. He’s a really sweet little boy, very placid and calm and loves to work things out.
Sunday I will be recovering……

Rain or Shine – I really like both. I love a good thunderstorm and rain in the night. But I hate getting wet myself, so Shine during the day.

Blue Avatar

Haul: Anastasia Brunette Brow Gel, Holy Snails Snowbang (regular size and a mini to decant into so that I can keep the full size in the refrigerator)
Weekend plans: Not sure. I was sick for two weeks and finally got some antibiotics, so I know I’ll be happy to feel better. 🙂
Rain or shine?: I love rain more, but I’m still going to say shine because it’s better for my brain chemistry.

Looking forward to seeing the Givenchy Le Rouges. It is one of my very favorite formulas.

Tracey E. Avatar

Haul: Nothing!

Weekend Plans: It may be a cold and snowy weekend, so odd jobs around the house. Watching the Superbowl on Sunday with a nice meal and lots of snacks.

Rain or Shine: Shine! I love sunshine, even if the temp is cold. I stop anyone who tries to stop the sun shining in my eyes. I bask in it (and it instantly lifts my mood)!

Rachel R. Avatar

Haul: *Sephora — Kat von D Glimmer Veil in StarFlyer

*Glam Tech — 35-pan magnetic palette with death head’s moth design in silver. Gorgeous!

*Notoriously Morbid Vanishing Cabinet — Finishing Powder in The End. Eyeshadows in Help Me (light green with gold shimmer and copper sparkles); Submitted for the Approval (bright pink-orange with gold-orange shimmer and rainbow sparkles); Give It Back (dark maroon with purple and pink shimmer); and To Trap a Creature of the Night (satin warm brown).

*Looxi Beauty (clearance) — Highlighters (although I’ll probably wear these on my eyes) in Flossy (light bronze and gold) and Conceited (super-metallic gold). Eye shadows in Imagine, Cardigan, Dollface, Buttercup, Money Maker, and La-Di-Da.

Weekend plans: Now that I’m 90% better and not coughing all the time, I’m hoping to go to the movies. I want to see “Winchester.” I’ll probably visit some with a friend on Sunday.

Rain or shine? Shine! Living in the PNW, I get more than enough rain. lol

kjh Avatar

Been so ho-hum about most releases, that am beginning to look much more often at indies, thanks to you, Michele’s swatches, etc. Just might forego the Ulta coupon, in favor of MPZ. Hope Blackbird becomes the phoenix, and rises again.

Pearl Avatar

Haul: Nothing! I am not on a low or no buy, but I think I am slowing down (finally). I only buy from a few brands, so if there isn’t a relase or new launch, nothing is really on my radar until the next seasonal
release. Tom Ford’s recent release was underwhelming. If they were my type of products, I think I’d like it but it just seems meh to me. I might consider the palette but I have enough of those tones. I don’t have any use for eye gloss or black sparkle and I don’t like the makeup on the model/can’t see myself going for that look, so the whole collection is a pass for me. I like the eye color creams with shadows or the quads and am hoping that’s queued for the next release or two. I love the latest Pat McGrath palette with all the jewel tones, but I don’t know how much I’d wear it, really. I have that and 5 Luxetrance lipsticks in my cart. I think it’d be a case of me buying it all just to have it. ?

Weekend plans: I took a yoga class tonight! Restorative yoga, with all the stretches. It was a great way to end a long week. On Saturday, lunch with girlfriends and hopefully on Sunday cooking with my Dad. I was supposed to spend last Sunday cooking with him but he caught a cold or had some allergies or something because he wasn’t feeling well. If I get home in time on Sunday, I’m going to give myself a manicure. I look forward to my Sunday manicure every weekend so if not Sunday (night) then Monday after work.
Rain or shine?: If I’m home, I love a good storm with a nice pot of homemade soup on the stove. I love the sound of rain and the way the air smells after a long rainfall. If I’m going to be out and about, give me sun – better driving and working conditions.

Tammy Avatar

Pearl, I have that same Pat McGrath palette in my cart, but like you, if I buy it I will only be buying it to have it and not because I really want it. It’s hard to walk away from an A+ palette but I am so unexcited by the colors. It is almost spring, I am itching for spring colors, not jewel tones. I have no doubt the formula would blow my mind, but I’m not sure I want my mind blown. I have several palettes I love right now: Kat Von D Saint & Sinner, Natasha Denona 28 Pan palette in purple/blue, Anastasia’s Prism and Subculture, and Morphe’s Jaclyn Hill palette. I don’t necessarily want a formula so fantastic that it overshadows (or causes me to be less happy with) what I already own and love. Usually I will only invest in a new palette if I am captivated by the looks I see on YouTube, Instagram or Reddit. I researched this newest Pat McGrath palette and though everyone swears the formula is to die for, the looks I’ve seen don’t excite me and I’m not sure, based on what I’ve seen, if the fabulous formula translates into an in-person look that is so superior that even casual observers can tell you’ve got something really special on your eyes. Maybe it will still be around on my next trip to Chicago and I can check it out in person. In the meantime I am going to wish for a Pat McGrath palette in spring colors?

Erin Avatar

Haul: Jack diddley! Though I did get nightstands and a T Shirt.

Weekend: Got some sweet nightstands for my sister for $20… so happy. Cleaned a lot, resting, shopping, and hopefully a mini facial tonight!

Rain or Shine: I love both equally. I do get sick of rain after 30 straight days tho.
