NYX Fortune Cookie Lipstick
NYX Fortune Cookie Round Lipstick ($4.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a shimmery bronzed beige. It appears much lighter and whiter on my lips–it’s a very, very frosted finish. The shade reminded me of MAC Pretty Please, which is a little pinker; MAC Tanarama, which is more golden; and MAC Bubbles, which is whiter and pinker.
This is not for someone who doesn’t LOVE their shimmer. It’s kind of like a really shimmered/frosted nude. There’s so much shimmer in this that it ends up looking almost opaque on the lips. I like it overall, and I think the effect looks nicer from afar; I’d recommend layering a gloss on top (maybe a red or plum) that’s more of a cream finish. Though it can be worn alone, it also works well as a layering product.
Because of the high level of frost, it is a bit drying compared to other shades I’ve tried within this range. It also wears away a little unevenly, but it does apply evenly from the get-go, which isn’t always true for extreme frost finishes. Mine has no detectable scent, though I know sometimes NYX’s lipsticks seem to be scented with something, but this has been waiting to be tested/reviewed for several months so it may have lost its scent over time (I find that more budget-friendly brands lose their fragrance much faster than higher-end brands). Fortune Cookie wore for about three hours.

I usually don’t like frosted lipsticks, just because I think it ends up looking cheap/like an eyeshadow on the lips. This is actually pretty cool, haven’t really seen anything like it before.
It can be fun for layering!
Hi. For the longest time I’ve been waiting for a MAC repromote or a good dupe for a lipstick from the style warriors collx called sunsational. Would you say this NYX shade is the closest?
Oh, definitely not – Sunsational is much more golden!
I see what you mean about it needing a gloss over it, but it looks good on you. Pity that it doesn’t have a creamy counterpart. I wonder if a liner would pop the color any and/or help with the hang time.
I think it’d help with the wear!
This is really such a pretty color. It looks great on you. I can’t wear it though, at my age frosts are verboten. It adds like 10 years at least. But this sure is pretty!
Thank you, Katherine!
I’ll probably leave this one as I have similar shades. I really do like Nyx lippies though, can’t them them in UK so I have to order from the US in bulk!
Well, at least that means you have a TON of new goodies to play with at once 🙂
Oh wow, this is a really fun color! I don’t know if I could work up the nerve to rock it, but I want to play with it. I could see this being really stunning with a dark smoky eye, and maybe blended with a bit of lip balm to tone it down a notch…
With a little gloss or balm, it would definitely tone it down!
Love the color and the way you have explained the color. I would love to wear it
It’s definitely a fun shade!
This is EXTREMELY similar to MAC “High Tea” lipstick
High Tea imparts more color for me – like it’s more beige? And not as opaque 🙂
This reminds me a lot of NYX Mute. I love wearing it because it just gives a nice sheen, or even over a matte lipstick to amp it up!
Haven’t seen that shade yet!
So pretty on you!
Thank you, Prerna!
Oooh, this reminds me a lot of a Maybelline Color Sensational the Pearls shade that I have, but I can’t remember which. Maybe Sugared Almond?
There is such a fine line between frost and shimmer for me in lipsticks, I love shimmers, but if it gets too frosty, it tends to make me feel washed out. Doesn’t matter what the shade, if it’s a full-on frost, it’s odd.
It can definitely look weird, depending on what other makeup you’re wearing!
looks amazing on you!!! you pull off that frosty opaque look well 🙂
Thanks, Steffanie!
This reminds me of a more silver/white version of MAC’s Beachbound from the To the Beach Collection. Beachbound is more of a golden frost/shimmer. Would you agree?
Yes, Beachbound is definitely more golden!
Reminds me of Maybelline’s Twinkle or So Pearly, if a bit more opaque. I use it a lot for as an alternative to nude lips when I do a dramatic or smoky eye.
looked like MAC bubbles to me..it would indeed be a fun lipstick for layering..i don’t like NYX round l/s because of the short staying power..i like their matte l/s though..
I don’t like lipsticks with a frost finish. I my opinion it only looks good on smaller lips.
shimmer overload…tho it looks cute on you
