Guerlain Habit Rouge (123) Rouge Automatique Lipstick

Guerlain Habit Rouge (123) Rouge Automatique Lipstick ($35.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a vibrant orange-toned red with a subtle sheen. It delivers full color coverage in one pass, and because of the intensity of the red, it wears for eight hours and still looks good. The orange undertones in this shade are subtle, though, but they are distinctly there.  Clarins Red Prodige is more orange, less deep. Make Up For Ever #44 is just a touch more neutral. CoverGirl Hot is similar but more vibrant. Chanel Excessive is also more orange and vibrant. Chanel Gabrielle is brighter and more orange.

Rouge Automatique is very comparable to the Rouge G formula, and the differences are minute, though they are there. This is an excellent formula regardless of that comparison, though, because it’s creamy enough to glide on but not so creamy that the color slips around, comfortable to wear, and keeps lips feeling hydrated, too. For more packaging photos, please see this post. My lips are always happy when a Rouge Automatique is on the swatching docket!

I love the color–but honestly, I will always turn to Chanel’s Gabrielle. I never really thought of it as warm-toned but I guess that explains why it’s such a spot-on red for my medium complexion.

Your lips look great, but matte reds will always be my stand-by. It reminds me of Maybelline’s Red Revival. My top two are Gabrielle and Kat von D’s Underage Red.

Looking at the consistency, however, you wouldn’t think that Habit Rouge would last eight hours! Maybe I should reconsider my stance and go try it out!

You really wear red well. I have two lipsticks from the automatique range. I can’t remember the names on the shades at the moment. I have to say that I don’t actually own another lipstick that wears longer than this one. I had gotten the first one tax free and tried it on in the evening when I got to my hotel. I removed it when I went to sleep but light was dubious and by misstake I didn’t get all lipstick off. I woke up with lipstick still on! That is really long lasting.

Huh, when I swatched it in the store I thought it looked so similar to Garconne. I guess that’s not the case, must be the store lighting playing tricks on my eyes again. o.o

Hey Christine

Do you think it would work for fair skin? Or would it make me look even more pale?(I am scandinavian, and have blue eyes, blond hair and fair skin with pink undertone).

PS. Thank you for your always hard work and dedication. I check this website everyday when I come home after school ^^

I have both Guerlain Rouge G in Garconne and Guerlain automatique in this Color. On my lips I really don’t see a difference. Is that suppose to be the case? I also love hourglass in raven as my #2 red next to these reds. I feel like these three round out my red collection. I am not really into berry reds or blue based reds. these. These three feel classic, glamorous, and ok for everyday. They are not over the top.

This red is amazing! As a red lover, I think I may need it in my life… It definitely reads like a true red, but on the lips (at least on yours!) it doesn’t look as “in your face” as some true reds can. I’ve been wanting to try out this formula, maybe this will be my first one!
