I reach for bolder lip colors, more lip balm (that’s not really skin care, is it? hmm!), and I take care to make sure I never look powdery, since my skin sometimes gets drier in the winter so my normal powder usage might look off!

I tend to have a bit more fun with glitter and bold lip colors in winter. Also, I stop setting my makeup with powder entirely. My skin gets dry enough that my foundation will last just fine without being set–and if I DO set it, I run the skin of looking cakey, and my skin feeling tight!
I moisturize a lot more and use more moisturizing products since my skin gets pretty dry in the winter. I also don’t use as much bronzer!! (though i still add a touch because i’m so pale)
I also reach for more bold lip colors, two of my favs right now are MAC’s Rebel & Wet n Wild’s Sugar Plum Fairy. I also shift from warm coral/orange blushes to cool pink/purple blushes. I still use NARS’s Taj Mahal especially on gloomy days when the sun isn’t out so must because I feel like it brightens my day. (:
during the summer, because of the heat and my oily skin, I barely wear makeup (only liner, mascara, probably some concealer), because all the other would “migrate” on my face 🙁 but when winter comes, or at least cold, I apply tinted moisturizer, powder, blush, shadows, COLORS, everything I’ve missed during the heat.
during winter, it’s almost impossible to wear foundation for me since my skin turns really dry; so i use sth like bobbi brown tinted moisturizing balm as base and only powder the t-zone. as for eyeliner, i use slightly darker colors, from brown to black.
my eyes tend to water when its really cold, so i always try and wear waterproof makeup, and with watery eyes eyeshadows tend to start to crease so i will just apply cream products as a sheer layer, or just not wear eye makeup at all
I tend to wear darker makeup, More smokies, Bolder lips sometimes, even when wearing a “nude” makeup I use darker nude colors although my skin is somewhat lighter in winters
I second your lip balm comment. Other than that (and perhaps heavier moisturizer), nothing really changes for me.
I second the lip balm, though the biggest change is that I’ll start wearing foundation a couple days of week. I find that it adds a layer of protection to my skin from the elements, which tends to dry me out easily.
I do go a little darker and bolder with lip color, but it’s not a major color shift.
my lips are superdry in winter so im using lip glosses and lipsticks more frequently because lip balm on its own just doesnt do the trick for me.
I like to wear nude or red lips as opposed to the pinks or corals I wear in the summer. I also prefer cinnamon-colored blushes. Bright red nails too. I wear heavier eye makeup around the holidays for a smokey eye.
Not really. The only thing that is different is that I tend to use cooler colors in the winter. I use a lot of purples and plums, and in the summer I use more corals.
I wear slightly deeper eye shadow shades and a bit more blush. I just don’t look good with bold lips so continue to stick to neutrals in winter. I never powder in winter because I start to look like I’m wearing old-fashioned pancake makeup!
I find that it’s harder to get away with coral blushes and bronzer (my skin is VERY pale) in the winter, so I reach for delicate pink tones, like Benefit Dandelion and MAC Pink Swoon. And I do also agree that powdering is quite unnecessary when it’s cold.
In the summer it’s so hot where I like that all I care about is staying matte, but in the winter, I’m all about the glow 🙂 I love winter!
Bold lips have become more of my theme for winter. As well as berry cheeks and single color washes on the eyes to help balance the lips. Current lip colors are Red Velvet, Brown Sugar, Pink Truffle lip butters from Revlon and Chanel rouge allure extrait in Triomphal. I also use Laura Mercier Silk Cream Foundation because it is very moisturizing and I need the extra coverage in the winter due to increase redness.
i definitely add a lot more moisturizer and primer
The only thing I do differently is wear lots of eye glitter during December, even to work!
I’m less likely to go for coral/warm peachy lip colors, but otherwise, not really.
I think its a fairly natural progression, going for lighter or glossier or brighter makeup when its warm and you’re out swimming or in the sun, versus richer or heavier makeup when you’re cosy and rugged up in jackets! Richer, darker colours seem to fit, mentally, for me in the cooler seasons and gloss and sheerer makeup in hot weather.
Always. In winter I need more moisturization and wear liquid foundation whereas in summer I use oil control and use powder foundation.
