Bobbi Brown Party Shimmer Brick Review, Photos, Swatches

Bobbi brown Party Shimmer Brick ($40.00 for 0.24 oz.) is a limited edition highlighter for the holidays that uses a combination of gold and “silver.” Though the right side of the compact is certainly not the gold we typically think of, it’s not exactly silver–more like a cool-toned gold.

The left side is a true yellow gold with a shimmer-sheen. I couldn’t think of other highlighters that were similar in color, though there are likely half a dozen eyeshadows! It has good intensity for a highlighter; you can build-it up if you really wanted something more opaque, but it’s soft and blendable. Though the finish isn’t overly metallic, it does emphasize pores (or skin unevenness) a bit. The right side is a more like a cool-toned white with a neutral yellow shimmer-sheen, so it comes off as this cool-toned white gold. It has a more metallic finish than the yellowy side, which is a finish that tends to emphasize pores (and this does do so moderately).

Overall, it’s as frosted as most Bobbi Brown Shimmer Bricks are.  It’s not unlike previous iterations, so for those who are fans of Shimmer Bricks (and I know there are a number of you!), it’s par for the course.  They can be used together or separately, which is nice–especially because the powder is halved, rather than split into four or five strips of colors, so you can actually just use one shade at a time.  The wear of this is good; it wore for seven hours well, and then at the eight hour mark, it was visibly diminished but still lingering.

Hm, makes me wonder how this compares to NARS Albatross. I’m guessing much more of a metallic finish than sheen.

I’m contemplating getting it, but will probably skip due to the price, my growing wishlist, and my already eye-catching pores. =P

Do you have highlighter recommendation for someone with uneven skintone/medium-large pores? My skintone is almost the exact same shade as yours, but Australian sun caused me to freckle under my eyes/cheekbone area.

Something really subtle would be like Guerlain’s Meteorites – I also like Dior DiorSkin shimmers, because they’re finely milled and on the sheerer side. You could also try highlighting with a stippling brush, because it’ll give a softer, less dense application and that might give you want you’re looking for. Things like MAC Strobe Cream can work well to dab on the cheekbones, too.

Oooh! Are you making a review on the Tarte Amazonian Clay Blushes? I have most of the shades but I’m still interested to read your take on them.

PS

I just bought theBalm Mary-Lou Manizer based on your review/recommendation. Couldn’t be more pleased 🙂 Thank you, Christine

Gimmick product for the holidays. Something I would had bought when I was younger. Thank goodness Sephora and the likes did not exist when I was a teenager. I could create the same design if I got a blank canvas.

That design on the powder immediately made me think of children’s painting books:) I prefer softer finishes but it looks lovely on you.too bad that shimmerbricks lasting power is below avarage for me.

I like the idea of the martini shaker and a glass stamp, but I find the company took the easiest and least imaginative way out. Compared to other brands intricate design of the palettes it seems a bit lazy. The theme has much more potential to really be dazzling. Oh well…

Hi Christine! I have been looking forward to this review as this shimmer brick looks so lovely yet I wasn’t sure if I need it. Upon seeing your beautiful swatches now, the shades look pretty similar to the NARS Hanamichi Kabuki palette, which I already own, I might have to pass on this one now. 😉

Nice swatches! I love your skin!! Have you used any foundation in these pictures? And if yes, which one did you use? Do you have any experience with the Bobbi Brown foundations?
