I’m so glad you posted this because I noticed it yesterday but hesitated purchasing because the shade names are exactly the same as the first Clay Play palette. If it is indeed a volume II Clay Play, I will order it but using the same names, even if the shades are different, is confusing!
Very strange that they used the same names??! But the promo image is completely different in a way that doesn’t suggest that it’s different editing, as the Clay Play II seems to have three shimmery eyeshadows vs. the original has all mattes. I know when I read “Onyx” as being a copper I was confused, and that makes more sense given the original’s Onyx was a matte black per the promo image… I wonder if the names are accurate.
I liked the first Clay Play so I went ahead an ordered this. If indeed it turns out to be the same, it’s easy enough to return it to Sephora. I agree that the pictures look different enough but why on earth use the same names when they aren’t even accurate (since when is Onyx a copper?). At least I’m not the only one confused by this.
I’m guessing the name confusion comes from a rushed CG image that bypassed quality control. No company in their right mind would call a copper shade “Onyx.”
MAC’s old “Taupe” lipstick wasn’t taupe at all. It was a muted terracotta. 🙂
And NYX’s Beige lipgloss is a candy pink…
Even though I have most of these colors, I have some travel planned and this would be perfect as I have a limited amount of space for makeup. I never got the first palette as I don’t need any more browns, but mauves I can always make room for.
Does anybody know if it will be sold at Ulta as well? I work right next to one, so I’d prefer to see in person if possible. TIA!
This palette is very appealing and at a good price point, perfect for travel, need to swatch this out.
I don’t see how that bronzer could work for anyone with skin darker then NC25. I really wish Tarte would come out with more inclusive products. They are becoming the mid-range version of Almay and Physician’s Formula.
Not sure this will grab me but it looks nice for travel!
If the pigmentation of all of these are good, this looks like it would a great travel palette!
I received mine today and can confirm that the shade names are as shown in the promo pics and the same as Clay Play I. I have to wonder, though, if this was a manufacturing error on Tarte’s side – or worse, if they just decided to discontinue the first clay play and use the same base packaging to save money? Like… why?
I mean, for some shades it’s fine – the Terracotta bronzer may be the same as the original (I don’t own the first Clay Play). But… for a LOT of these…. it’s a big ????
Timber for the highlight?
Desert for a rosy blush?
Onyx for a copper shimmer shadow?
Stone for a mauve shimmer shadow?
Smoke for a light gold shimmer shadow?
Gimme a break, Tarte!
If I owned the first one, I’d probably be way more annoyed – BUT it is a beautiful all in one palette and I’m probably going to love the heck out of it…. soooooo it’s just a cosmetic thing for me. Still, though… Makes one wonder.
I just received mine, and it’s crazy. Not only packaging and shade names all duplicates, so are most of the shades. Comparing volume 2 with volume 1 (which I also have), the three shimmery eye shadows are new shades, and so is the pink blush and the highlighter. But the matte eye shadows and the bronzer color are ALL the exact same shade as in volume 1. So, in volume 2 you actually get a total of five new shades, and seven *exact duplicate shades* from volume 1. What is Tarte thinking?!?!?
