Items of Intrigue, Vol. 005

Items of Intrigue, Vol. 005

Here are five items that have grabbed my attention this week! I’d love to hear what’s at the top of your beauty lists this week.

  1. Jack Black Balm Squad Set ($25) includes flavors I haven’t tried — Mango and Mandarin. MUST. HAVE.
  2. Givenchy Pi Eau de Toilette ($54 to $73) caught my eye for its name and bottle photo, though reading the description makes it sound like a scent I might be interested in (woody oriental!).
  3. Deborah Lippmann Stairway to Heaven Nail Lacquer ($18) is a multi-colored shade that looks totally up my alley. I think it has a very winter wonderland look to it.
  4. YSL Gel Eyeliner ($25) claims to wear for twenty-four hours, which is interesting. It’s one of those things where 1) I have no desire to test (or wear) any makeup product for 24 hours), 2) I’m skeptical it will truly last that long! Looks like there are six shades; Jade black seems the most interesting.
  5. Benefit Watt’s Up! ($30) looks like a potentially workable cream highlighter. I wonder whether it wears well and how the shimmer looks on the skin.

What beauty products have turned your head this week?

I don’t mind wearing products marketed for men.
I went to sephora.com, saw Pi Neo, and am now intrigued by it rather than Pi. The notes listed for Pi Neo seem more up my alley.. 😀

PI is marketed to men, but I’ve been wearing it for years and it never fails to get me a compliment. It’s very light, so very wearable for women.

I’m a little surprised at how many commenters seem to be concerned that Pi is “for men”. Why does that matter? I wore blue as a child and I played with remote-control cars, because girls can use stuff made for boys too. I think our culture is a little too concerned with gender. If you find a scent that smells great on you but the bottle says “for men” will that stop you from buying it? It shouldn’t. You go Christine! 🙂

I finally was able to order Fyrinnae Pixy Epoxy and some shadow shades to try it out. I heard so many people rave about them, I thought to venture and try. It took me about 2 months to finally get thru….the site was always closed when I was ready to order.

The Balm Squad looks like a nice holiday stuffer.

omg the jack black lip balm set!?!?!?! sounds amazing!!! but I’m not gonna lie. I have the givenchy pi (I know it’s for men, whatever) and I absolutely HATE the scent!!!! even my mom detests it!!!!!! it’se just gross and I can’t describe it now cuz I don’t have it with me, but blaahhhhh

Theresa Avatar

I love Pi! I don’t think it’s overtly masculine at all. I steal it from my boyfriend’s stash when he doesn’t wear it. Smells delicious.

Must have Jack Black Balm Squad too!!! And the gel liner looks really pretty 🙂 I heard Benefit’s Watts Up is easier to apply than High Beam and more natural. I really happy with my High Beam though

ah, i so hope you can review the deborah lippmann nail polish
seems like it would be nice for winter over essie’s ballet slipppers or mademoiselle
🙂

ah christine, after suscribing to temptalia ive become such a teenage beauty junkie haha 🙂

Just wanted to comment and say I love that you don’t care if a product is marketed for men. Men use women-marketed products sometimes too!

Maya Avatar

I laughed when I saw that a fragrance was actually named Pi…interesting haha. That Jack Black set is really nice. Thank you so much for mentioning those – not only do I love them (and would’ve never tried them without your suggestion), but even my boyfriend, mom, sister, grandparents, and cousins are hooked now too after I spread the word lol. I hope you review that nail polish, it looks stunning and perfect for winter!

Gasp… I hope the Jack Black lip balm set is available at Sephora.

And I agree with Christine that women can wear scents marketed towards men. Not all women want to smell like candy, bubblegum and flowers!

Pi smells heavenly! It is the only cologne my husband will wear (and he has really sensitive skin so it’s a great product for that). I have worn it before. 😉
