Do you find that some colors suit you better by the season?

I don’t think that they suit me better in a particular season, but I feel like I gravitate toward certain colors more during certain seasons — like more teal in the summer, more plum in the fall.!

Seasonal preferences aside (deeper, richer colours in cooler weather), in summer, when I’ve a bit more colour on my face, I can wear slightly peachier shades of blush and I can wear bronzer without looking ridiculous. That’s pretty much about it for me – a perfect example is that I’ll wear MAC Impassioned in summer but not really any other time of year.

Yes and no. We only have 3 seasons here – warm, hot and one month of cold so I pretty much wear my warm colors all year round. I try for cooler smoky looks when it’s cold but I can only stand that for little bit – I don’t think I’m picking the right colors to go together and things end up looking muddy and I look a bit pale. I do love a wine/burgundy/plum lip, though.

Yes, but only so far as my skin tone changes through the seasons. Despite daily use of spf, I will darken a bit in summer and then end up much paler in the middle of winter.

I have to agree with you, Christine. I don’t go through any major changes in coloring over the course of a year because I avoid tanning and my hair doesn’t change much. However, I definitely like certain colors more at certain times. Pinks in the spring, more bronzes, browns, and bright colors in the summer, orange-y tones in the fall, and reds in the winter. I often cross these lines a lot, but as a generally trend that’s it.

I feel the same as you Christine! I don’t think that colors suit me better at a particular time (except maybe if I get a visible tan, which is rare), but I’m more attracted to certain shades depending on the season. Right now it’s this weird time of year when everyone in the US is talking about sweater weather and wearing plums and berries, but October is often the warmest month in San Diego (100 yesterday). So I’m wearing shorts and flip flops and don’t know what to do with my makeup, lol!

What season? All I’ve seen since spring is the same palette of colors, over and over and over. I just made a huge rant in the comment section for the new Morphe palette. I won’t repeat it here. Grrr, lol. Just grrr!

I would say that some colours suit the season better :). For instance burgundy, maroon, oxblood, berry, garnet, currant shades, some dark greens and browns are more associated with the fall/winter season, imo. They look good on me all year round but I wouldn’t wear them in July. Same for a coral lipstick; it looks good on me but at the same time, it looks a bit strange on my lips in October. Of course it’s just makeup, so we can wear what we want any time of the year!
It’s just that some colours are associated with certain seasons and the fashion and makeup still embrace this approach. Spring and summer – pastel/light and vivid shades in order to reflect the revival of the nature, the bright colours of the vegetation and the bright sun. Fall and winter – darker, more earthy shades that reflect the colours in nature – leaves, pumpkins, red raisins etc.
Also, as other readers pointed out, my skin changes as well. It’s light in summer (with a slight tan) and fair in winter.

I forgot to reply earlier, sorry Genevieve!! But I totally agree with you LOL. I wore a warm bronze and gold eye look today, and it looked so warm and natural on me!! I’m also a huge huge fan on plums on my lower lashline, especially with my warm brown/hazel eyes! 😀

Not so sure that it has much to do with any very noticeable change in my skin depth, because I wear sunscreen year round and I try to stay indoors during the hottest part of the day June thru September. But my mood has at least a little bit of an effect seasonally speaking! I am more inclined to wear corals and orange-reds, plus use a bit of bronzer during the seemingly endless “summer”. With pulling out more of my burgundy and more vampy lipsticks, plum and russet blushes and dark smoky eyes during the cooler Nov.-March “season”.

I am drawn to different make up colors depending on the season. I prefer pastels, for instance in the Spring, brights in the summer along with colors that evoke the beach, the ocean, and summer activities, colors that remind me of leaf colors changing, and of the scents of Autumn in the Fall, and in the Winter I am drawn to shades of red, green, silver, gold, festivities, and colors that look like snow and ice.

Miska Avatar

Nope. I’m an avid sunscreen user and I try my best not to tan. I’d say my choices depend more on my mood. Seasons really don’t influence me personally.

My preferences change with the seasons but not my need to change based on any change to my complexion or hair. I am the same shade of white all year long. We generally have four distinct season’s here in Montana although fall feels like it is going to be very short this year as we have already had snow in the mountains. Usually by spring I am ready to lighten things up. After the long, hot summer then I am ready for deeper shades. I generally follow the accepted rules for seasonal color changes!!

Definitely autumn and winter shades work best on me – greys, olives, smoky blues, rich browns and the lipsticks are great too.
Summer shades of mint, blue with peachy/ginger lipstick shades work as well.
But the spring shades of pink, pink and pink – with orange and red – nope.

Living in S. California is been frying hot lately I’m exactly 3 straight miles from Venice Beach measured by my Garmin I run to the lovely Venice Canals often to get inspired for gardening. I’m dying to start wearing layers and rich colored sweaters and to be able to run in comfortable weather. Hate heat!! Good luck to me! But it is supposed to lower coming week and then is beautiful weather year round especially for running. I don’t change much between seasons they are hardly visible here (I miss living in Chicago for that very reason but don’t miss the cold). I tend to wear the same year round maybe a bit more corals and peaches and golds, bronze in Summer. Lighter colored lipsticks also but I’ll wear anything if I like. Ever since I discovered bronzer is been my staple. (Love! Love! WetnWild My Cabana and Physicians Formula butter bronzer but I notice a hint of yellow). So I prefer my WetnWild is perfect! I will carry it on to Winter I’m very pale and need that magic touch. It makes me look more healthy. Lol!
