Urban Decay Heavy Metals Metallic Eyeshadow Palette ($55.00 for 0.60 oz.) includes 20, never-before-seen eyeshadows in a brand new formula. The new formula was developed to “bump up the foiled effect” and have a “velvety feel” with “insane color payout and shiny metallic effects” that ‘blends like a dream.”

First Impressions

The formula felt different than the average Urban Decay eyeshadow, as they were denser and more firmly pressed in the pans than has been typical for the brand, but the formula still feels like a powder eyeshadow, so I didn’t feel like there was a learning curve to working with it. The finishes ranged from pearly to metallic with a few having larger sparkles as well. Except for Angelfire, they were quite pigmented, and Angelfire was more of a glitter-bomb eyeshadow and felt like it had less of a powder base. I haven’t had any issues blending or applying the eyeshadows overall, though there were a couple of more metallic shades that tended to work better with denser brushes over fluffy ones. I would expect that this palette’s impact would be maximized by combining it with your favorite mattes and satins rather than using only the shades in the palette, as they are all shimmery.

The packaging is certainly different from a lot of palettes, though it felt unnecessarily wide due to the mirror sandwiched between the two panels of eyeshadow.

Oh yes, this is more like the UD we know and love! I have dupes for many of these shades already, but it’s going to be hard to resist, as the quality and colors look beautiful. Not a fan of the bulky packaging, but that’s UD, sigh

I hate the design of this palette (mirror in the middle?? Why??), but the quality of nearly all shades looks great! I’m planning on passing since ther are too many bright for my personal taste, but it’s nice to see them release a good holiday item.

The more I look at this gorgeous palette, the more I wish I could use it!

Except for wearing a bit of shimmer on the center of my lid, shimmers just don’t look flattering on me. And $55 is a lot of money for a little pop of color fo part of my lid.

Still…

Metalhead, Mullet, and Amp seem like a let down for me. I expected better intensity while scrolling through. If they build well and wear well (esp Metalhead with that duochrome?) then this would look more appealing.

This reminds me of the BH Foiled eyeshadow palette, the OG one. I am very curious to see whether my initial reaction is on point, or not. I’m hoping not, though. Because I use that gem of a palette quite a bit, and so I’m therefore hoping this UD palette is different enough to justify having both! The jewel tones DO seem different from BH.

I feel like I’ve seen every shade here by UD at some point, and actually have them, “new formula” aside… If it’s still available when it’s financially feasible, I’ll still likely pick it up, but I won’t feel like I’ve missed out if can’t get it.

Yowie, zowie, wowie! Going have to remember my age and financial constraints. If this is refined, rather than OTT, it could spell trouble. Your looks are phenomenal, and it’s great to see something that derives more from the spectrum concept than warm red toned MR derivatives. Here’s hoping i’m Duped. (That failure to capitalize the I, then capitalizing the next word is a bug in the new iOS. Not fixing. Please excuse.). Good luck with the holiday onslaught, and I hope your brother in law’s family is doing ok.

Hmm, some of those brighter colors could be more pigmented. This is why I passed up the Afterdark palette – I expected them to have a lot more payoff. But overall, omg, I love that they’re doing foils! And the neutral colors look really nice. 🙂

It looks nice enough but it’s not really exciting me – the neutral/warm shades look very dupeable, I don’t like the massive mirror in the middle and the fact that the top of the palette is rippled also kind of bugs me – I can appreciate the aesthetic they were going for but it’s not very practical for storage.

Fingers crossed that it’s worth it!

THIS is what I expect from UD! Gorgeous palette. I think that I have dupes for many of these, but so far, this is the holiday that is calling to me. Amp… OMG! I would almost buy it just for that color! I really hate the packaging though. I really hate that mirror in the middle :/

If this didn’t have a whacking great mirror in the middle of it where it’s utterly useless and unnecessarily bulks out the palette I’d be all over it.

Hard pass. I do not have the space.

I was going to pass on this but got my Ulta 20% off coupon today plus have a bunch of platinum points. The swatches look breathtaking! I’ve been busy playing with some cheaper brands from Ulta, NYX and Models Own have some gorgeous holographic and metallic palettes out. Some of the colors in these are better as toppers as seems to be all the rage this season. I’m thinking of some colors in the Huda Desert Dusk and the Sephora Pro palettes. If you’re a glitter/metal/holo lover, there is so much to love out there! Be sure to have glitter glue and setting spray on hand. I’m curious to see if the formulation on this one is all UD hypes it up to be.
