What type of palette or set would you like to see released during the holidays?
I’d love to see more build your own sets of minis — like 20 lipsticks that you can choose a trio from!

A Lorac Mega Pro palette like the LMP 2 (the blue one) with a good balance of mattes, shimmers, & pearls and a good balance of ‘on trend’ shades that work well together. Especially metallics because I lurvvvvvvv me some metallics!
I’d love a big palette exclusively made out of vivid metallic duochromes, made by Urban Decay or Anastasia. And not subtle shifters, but very obvious and colorful ones! You hear me, Urban Decay?!
I second the build-your-own sets! Trios of eyeshadows would be my pick.
I’d also love a Sephora Favorites of waterproof and smudgeproof mascara! It doesn’t even have to be a holiday set, I just want it. 😛
A Viseart shadow palette in the colorways of the Nyx air or water palettes, maybe with a little less outright blue, more cool neutrals. Would settle for an abh one, if it were not ‘difficult.’ Like C’s idea, too, about minis, but more like a Chinese food approach, where there is infinite choice in the colors. That’s rather what is appealing with dyi from ColourPop.
Guess I meant ‘wind’ not ‘air.’ Air is pastelly, light. I thought there were four elements. Nyx clearly has more, including metal. Whatever. And diy. Who was up for 22 hrs? Me. Whyever? Makeup acuity quotient is down. Better tie my Ulta button finger behind my back.
I’m not one for lip sets, but that’s a cool idea Christine. I am a palette girl…I really want a green focused palette, possibly from viseart.
I might be looking out for some MAC pigment sets this year.
An eyeshadow palette inspired by winter, I would love to see a cool-toned blue palette, a jewel tone palette, and a cool-toned dark smokey palette.
The idea about choosing your own lip trios intrigues me too, I would love to see that happen since sometimes the colors are too light for me – this year’s Bite lip set for example.
I agree with you there!
I absolutely agree with you! I have so many minis and deluxe samples from kits that just sit around and are never used because they are the wrong color or for the wrong skin type. This would be a better way of testing out a brand and getting use out of the tester/sample! Minis are the best!
A high quality, truly cool-toned, non-“smoky” eyeshadow palette. No oranges, no red, no yellows. And no black taking up a space! Pink, lavender, purple, blue, green, teal, gray, silver.
That sounds lovely!
More eyeshadow singles!!!! Why does everything have to be a palette? I would much prefer singles in unique shades for the holidays….deep true green, amethyst, a flattering deep hue of blue in a satin or slight shimmer finishes….jewel tones. True red lipsticks with no hint of orange. Beautiful, sturdy packaging that is worth the purchase. Something that I would love to carry with me in my makeup bag every day or as a gift for someone. I’m a sucker for slight sparkle or shimmer and that’s what the holidays are supposed to be about….something out of the ordinary and more special than the usual collections at any other time of the year. And I think most collections fall short of that.
Great idea! How I wish I could select my preferred colors. I would support a brand that would allow selection of mini lipsticks, blush, or eyeshadow.
“Build your own” sounds a wonderful idea (I loved the Buxom customizable ones, which is how I wound up with THREE of them!). What I’d like to see is a “full face” type palette (perhaps also customizable/build your own-ish) that would have 3 to 5 eyeshadows, a blush or two, a highlighter, maybe a setting powder, an eye liner and a lipstick all in one neat packaged. Some years back, UD had a “Naked on the Run” palette that is sort of what I’d like to see, only less bulky (it was needlessly so) and more customizable (the bronzer in that one is really orange and it’s not like I use bronzers much at all but a more wearable colour or a 2nd blush or a finishing/setting powder would be a good thing). It might not be the most exciting as a “holiday release” but I know I’d love it.
The Buxom shadows are wonderful and I have way too many of them. But there is a dearth of blues, purples, etc. The vast majority are neutrals and warm tones.
That’s true – there aren’t a lot of those shades but there are some and considering that it’s a somewhat small collection of colours, they do have a reasonable number of blues, greens (and gold-greens), purples and plums. Not all are the best in terms of pigmentation but they’re not bad.
Yet again, you come up with possibly the most sensible answer ever.
I really don’t have a response to this, other than I’d like to *not* see lower-quality versions of already quality-challenged products. ‘Nuff said.
I wish Sephora would do a mini blush kit like they do with their lipsticks. I know some people find samples of blush hard to use, but ones the size of the tarte blush in the birthday kit are very useable in my opinion, and it would be so great to have a handful of mini blushes from companies like NARS, tarte, BECCA, etc.
Love it. I’m a sucker for blush.
Anything build-your-own appeals to me. I’m more than tired of seeing palettes and sets suitable for 3 or more women of different eye color and skin tone!!! I used to buy them because they were so pretty and offered so many options. Finally realized I could wear maybe 1/4 of the shades in each palette. Waste of money and went right into storage, never to be seen again. Ugh!
A really awesome cool toned e/s palette with a variety of finishes. If it leaned mostly green that would be a bonus for me. I know not everyone loves green so I am not asking for 28 green shadows but a few nice ones in a cool toned palette.
Yep, I second that! And I love greens…..
How about some really, really supercalifragilisticexpialidocious kick-@$$ QUALITY ones!?! I am just so sick and tired of the perpetual overflow of poorer-than-permanant-line junk that usually floods the market this time of year. Not that all of the holiday LE offerings are garbage, but way too many ARE.
Btw; I gotta say, I do love your idea of a customizable lipstick (or lipgloss) set! This would be BOMB tbh, as most sets include shades I couldn’t wear, like too light of nudes (*ahem* Bite *cough*).
I have actually been hoping that Tom Ford would release a few quads in the Nude Dip or Honeymoon formula – a jewel-toned quad in that formula, or a purple themed or silver themed quad would be gorgeous I bet.
I’d like to see DS brands do more. Revlon used to do some adorable mini lipstick & nail polish sets (about 12 different colors from the permanent range), which was a great way to try different shades. They yielded only a few applications, but enough to get a real feel for the products. They also did eyeshadow palettes with several of their customizable shades. CoverGirl did some nice kits, as well. Nowadays, it seems only NYX does something, but I’d like to see the others do some.
I’ve been desiring a frost-themed set for a few months and it would make a great holiday/winter palette: with a black, a shimmer charcoal (duo chrome) and silver and golds (but not your typical ones, really subtle ones and definitely a cool and warm of each), then some ice blues and winter greens, of course at least two whites, …. just thinking about it warms me up. Makes me almost want to design my own winter palette by going through your database, but gosh how hard it that to do when your favorites come from several companies! 😉
And oh, I don’t want all shimmer & sparkle, definitely need some mattes in the mix too!
I would love more choices of full face palettes. Preferably cool toned but that’s me. Don’t need mascara as tend to have my favourites, don’t need lip either for same reason or brushes inside. Do want a few eyeshadow, Bronzer, facepowder, blush, highlighter. Always on the hunt for these. Estee lauder recent one disappointed. Eyeshadow not pigmented enough. Fingers crossed!!!
A lovely cool toned eye shadow palette with not a pink, orange, red in sight! Preferably greens, olives and taupes.
I really like your idea of build-your-own sets, Christine! Lip products would be a fun one, or sets where you could pick your eye shadows or blushes. Like someone else mentioned, that part of why Colourpop and Makeup Geek are so appealing. I also agree with whoever mentioned that they want brands to release more single shades instead of these huge mega palettes/sets! Those are so overwhelming in quantity and underwhelming in quality.
Also, if I could get a jewel-toned palette with either all jewel tones or a mix of mattes/shimmers that actually makes sense (*cough cough* lookin’ at you, Kylie Holiday 2016 palette), I’d really love that. I might just see what I can piece together from the archive 🙂
An entire palette of different tones of purple to plum eyeshadows. Another in green with silver or gold (do I love Comfort Zone!). But I do not need a thing just dreaming!
I really like your idea, Christine. I’d also love to see a high-quality truly all-purple eyeshadow palette in different shades and finishes. Also, a high quality all duo-chrome eye palette. Lipsticks in shades of deep pine green, opaque and shimmery winter blues and silvers, and a red with a green shift. I love bright red and berry lipsticks, but those can be obtained any time of the year. I’m just so sick of seeing neutral after neutral palette with a pop of shimmery gold and the obligatory red and nude lipsticks, year after year.
Every year, I look at the Clinique sets, and every year I am sad because no one at Clinique decided to make a garden palette with their cheek pops.
Jussayin’. If someone wants to pass that along….
II know this isn’t at the same company, but Sleek had a beautiful Garden palette (burgundies and greens) in case you haven’t seen it. http://www.temptalia.com/sleek-makeup-garden-eden-divine-eyeshadow-palette-review-photos-swatches/
