Have you worked in the beauty industry before?

Sometimes, I don’t feel like I do traditionally, but I imagine most people would classify beauty blogging as being part of the industry at this point! So… yes 🙂

Please keep discussion on-topic, and if you have general feedback, a product review request, an off-topic question, or need technical support, please contact us!

Please help us streamline the comments' section and be more efficient: double-check the post above for more basic information like pricing, availability, and so on to make sure your question wasn't answered already. Comments alerting us to typos or small errors in the post are appreciated (!) but will typically be removed after errors are fixed (unless a response is needed).

We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! Thank you for understanding!

I’m fairly sure that merely working in a drugstore make-up and perfume department doesn’t count – but industry wise it still gave some nice insights, especially concerning consumer behaviour and wishes. I also liked being able to pick a new high-end lipstick and perfume each morning to put on before the store opening 😉

No, I haven’t worked in the beauty industry at all, but after reading your blog and a few others, I feel like I know more than a lot of MUA’s out there.
When I was 16 (a very, very long time ago) i worked on the Christmas counter for Estee Lauder and that was fun, with all the husbands, boyfriends and sons coming in to buy gifts for their female relativess…. I loved that Chrissy job.

I worked at SiJCP for three years and I am currently a business manager at a skin care counter. I much prefer the Sephora plan more than department store business!

I was a journalist and magazine writer who specialized in health, beauty and fitness. Quit around the time the Internet started. Used to modem stories to my NY editors. Paid well, but very isolated work. No freebies, no promises to MDs they would appear in the piece, just straight, well-researched, unbiased journalism. Rewrites were a given as stories went thru five editors. I’d work on a 5,000 word story for two to three months. It embarrases me to see what appears as writing on much of the Internet. Did have fun in NY, being photographed and interviewing world famous derms and plastics. Because I was doing in-depth reporting (like explaining how lasers work) I rarely had a chance to write to write about specific beauty products. That’s why I so enjoy Christine and Temptalia, the only blog I read!

Yes. I worked part-time for Ulta as a Prestige Beauty Advisor and loved it. I worked for a brand new store and had the opportunity of attending various training sessions hosted by different brands like Benefit and Smashbox. Along with this came lots of gratis makeup, which was awesome.

If the pay was better I probably would have quit my full time job because I really enjoyed the experience, the industry and the interaction with customers and vendors.
