bareMinerals High Shine Eyecolors for Summer Review, Photos, Swatches
Gold Medal, Flash, Meteorite, Vapor
New bareMinerals High Shine Eyecolors!
bareMinerals High Shine Eyecolors ($16.00 for 0.05 oz.) just saw the release of six new shades: Gold Medal (pale gold), Flash (iced lilac), Meteorite (iced mocha), and Vapor (gunmetal gray), which are shown in this post, along with Ice (frosted pink) and Rose Gold (antique golden mauve).
I love the texture and color pay off of this product, but I still find the packaging a huge let down. I first reviewed these here. These apply really smoothly with insane pigmentation and a fun, foil-like finish. These wear well alone (eight hours, no creasing) as well as over a base, with other shadows, or over other eyeshadows.
- Gold Medal is a muted, antique gold with a metallic finish.
- Flash is a softened lilac with a silvery-white sheen.
- Meteorite is a cool-toned brown with subtle burgundy tones.
- Vapor is a bluish gray with a smooth, metallic sheen.
These are beautiful from first swatch to application, but there is a major drawback to this product line. The applicator/tube is a total no-go! However they managed it, when you pull the applicator out of the tube (which is a large sponge-tipped applicator), it also pulls a ton of product onto the edges. In essence, it pulls out far too much product on the applicator itself as well as leaves a lot along the rim of the tube (which just falls on your floor, lap, or wherever!).
I would recommend dumping the color into a jar or else cutting the applicator off — because it seems like the larger sponge-tip does pull much of the excess to the rim, so if you just snipped it off entirely (and used a separate brush to apply), you could leave it in the tube. (Ironically, they tout the applicator as a “convenient, quick-draw wand [that] allows for easy, on-the-go application.”) I wouldn’t recommend any kind of QUICK-DRAW with this unless you wanted it all over your sink.

I’m like a cat, immediately drawn to the shiny. These look really interesting. I’m definitely going to check these out. Thanks for the swatches!
I have one of them and find that the amount of fall-out when withdrawn from the container reduces drastically once the product has been used a few times. I basically never have wasting of the product. My problem with it is that even though I use a paint pot as a base, the shadow still moves around like crazy, it just does not stay put. But the colors are absolutely amazing!!
Are these swatched wet? If they aren’t, wow! But either way, they’re gorgeous colors.
Nope, dry!
It makes so much sense that they’d want to make us suffer by providing us so little (with poor packaging xD) of something so beautiful and pigmented… that’s how they’ll get you to buy more. xD
Luckily these are colors that I wouldn’t wear, so I don’t need to worry! Metallic and Vapor look like they’d look gorgeous on you though Christine!
These do look nice but I can’t justify buying any of BE’s loose shadows. There’s enough indie companies out there that offer similar or even more complex colors for less money.
Now, if BE started offering pressed mineral shadows, foundation, blush, etc. I’d be all over it!
BE’s shadows are definitely worth their pricetag. They are extremely finely milled (more so than any other mineral makeup I’ve ever seen and/or tried). The whole thing about them being loose is that there are no additives like binders or fillers, if they were pressed they’d either be cakey and not apply as smoothly or they’d need to use some sort of medium to make them solid.
I feel like these are at a really good price point and the colors are beautiful. However, they could probably lower the price even more if they got rid of the dopey packaging. I love BE and generally have good experiences with their products, but it makes me wonder if they ever gave this packaging a test drive.
Every time that I try to blend the High Shine Eye Colors they basically disappear on me, they also do not last very long for me. I wear UDPP, but it always happens. Do you have any tips for making them last and blend better? I think that they are gorgeous but they seem to just not want to work for me.
I have one in Patina and I love it! It’s a nice cool green! You should try it! It would really flatter your eyes!
Wow, I love the colors!
Mmm, these look amazing! And eight hours without creasing – be still, my beating heart! *hands flutter about*
I was actually playing with these in the store and the SA showed me a trick-unscrew the top but leave it in the container. The top has a spring and if you tap it several times, it cuts down on the amount on the applicator. HTH! BTW, meteorite is gorgeous!!
Which one is your personal favorite, Christine?
ohhh I absolutely love Gold Medal! I’ll look for these on my next shopping trip
They are showing a kit this weekend on QVC with Vapor and Flash in it with a liner pencil (I think). On Flash looks nice and neutral – in the tube and swiped I probably never would pick it up thinking it would be too light with high reflection for all over. I do like Flash for an easy one color smokey eye look.
Hi! christine! thanks for the Bare Escentuals reviews you have been doing lately. I love BE and hope that you continue to review BE products. Have you tried any of their Buxom Puppies eyeshadows yet? You should!
I am a BareMinerals/Bare Escentuals aficionado :). I definitely reccomend these shadows as well as the rest of BE’s line of mineral shadows and makeup. One extremely common misconception is that since there is so ‘little’ product it won’t last long, but that’s soooo wrong. The product even the regular jars that have 0.57g/0.02 oz. Lasts years I know several longtime BE Addicts (that’s our nickname ;]) that haven’t used up a single pot. All you really need is just a tiny tiny bit of the product, it goes a verrry long way :). Hope this is helpful info
