Rose Quartz Flashes Seashell

Becca Rose Quartz Flashes Seashell Light Chaser Highlighter ($34.00 for 0.23 oz.) is a light pink with a luminous sheen and subtle, warm undertones. It had good color payoff with a soft, smooth consistency that wasn’t dry but did not seem as finely-milled as Becca’s more popular highlighting powder formula. This shade was a more subtle shade in the range (though I would classify it as a moderate highlighter in the grand scheme of all that is highlighting), as it did not have the high-shine finish, and it definitely did not have anything like a duochrome shift. This shade lasted for eight hours on me.

The Light Chaser Highlighter formula is supposed to be “more than a highlighter” and have a combination of “kaleidoscopic color and light” that makes it “shift as you move.” There are six shades in the range, and a few of them have more of a visible shift in person (less so in photos) while others just seemed like a typical highlighter. From the brand that seemed to put highlighters back on the market with their Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed formula, the formula lacked the finesse in texture and blendability I would have expected from Becca. The texture varied from shade to shade with some being drier, looser, and less blendable to smoother, more blendable, and fairly good as a tinted highlighter/subtle blush.

Opal Flashes Jade

Becca Opal Flashes Jade Light Chaser Highlighter ($34.00 for 0.23 oz.) is a warmer, light beige with a moderate, greenish-gold shift that became warmer and cooler as the angle changed. The shift was noticeable in person and did not look “off” in any way but was a delightful reflection and interplay of light and color. It had opaque color payoff with a fairly smooth, soft, and blendable texture, though it was not as creamy as Becca’s other powder products. It lasted for eight hours on me before fading slightly.

I have super fair skin (hello translucency!!!) and, yes, the base color is visible on my skin. It shows as a light pinky stripe. Granted that’s a little odd since it’s placed high on the cheek bones, but if I do a little bronzing (it is summer after all) then it’s fine. And it does give a rather lovely fairy glow.

I think I’m going to be the only one who likes these. I like my glow to be very diffused and natural. I know you can sheer out highly pigmented highlighters by using a fan brush or a light hand, but they always still look pretty unnatural on my skin. I hated champagne pop and Becca’s permanent line of highlighters, but I think these might work just fine on me!

Christine Avatar

It’s interesting that you’d call these natural! Rose Quartz Flashes Seashell more moderate highlighter, just subtle compared to Becca’s more famous highlighting formula, and I wouldn’t consider Opal Flashes Jade subtle, natural, or diffused – it was metallic!

Christina Avatar

Hmm, in that case, these might not work then. When you said moderate, I took that to mean not metallic and more buildable than Becca’s permanent line, so I figured a light hand would work. I have read some reviewers complaining about the pigmentation, so I kind of combined your thoughts and theirs. Thanks for the clarification. It’s probably better for me to see these in person before buying then!

I think this is a poor product naming choice. It took me 10 minjtes of a scrambled brain to figure out “Rose quartz flashes seashell” was meant to describe the color shift. Especially when tacked on to “Light Chaser.” They should have just called it Seashell.

Christine Avatar

Yeah, the highlighters are Something Flashes Something, and then the glosses are Something x Something. They’re all really long names, though, and they might have simply dome better with a shorter, combo name vs. trying to get it all in one. “Rose Seashell” or “Seashell Quartz” and “Opal Jade.”

Do any of the dupes have the green flash? I love this kind of “worksafe color with hints of bolder color”; do you have any other recommendations for that kind of blush/highligter?

Linda Avatar

I got the Champagne Flashes Bellini and Rose Quartz x Seashell is in the mail – I found Bellini to be super dry, and very difficult to use even as a blush topper. Will keep trying different brushes and techniques but I think this will go back. Was hoping for a creamy, wet finish but this feels like dollar store quality 🙁

Linda Avatar

Thanks Christine + Katherine 🙂 I did try building Bellini up, and turns it HOT PINK! I’d dig it if it wasn’t so dry, building it up makes it look very chalky on me at least

Katherine T. Avatar

Yeah, these new highlighters definitely aren’t the same quality as Becca’s regular range, so I can see why people are disappointed, but I’m willing to work with them if the color is interesting enough. Looks like I need to check out Opal x Jade

Katherine T. Avatar

Christine, I was able to check out all the highlighters in store today!
*Rose Quartz x Seashell – agree with you there, subtle, finish isn’t shiny, no duo chrome shift at all
*Opal x Jade – I was excited for this one, but think there are QC batch issues. While it’s good quality (smooth, pigmented, and very metallic), I only saw a warm bronzy gold, no green at all, and certainly no shift to green. And I even tried turning my arm back and forth in full sunlight. It’s pretty, but I’m disappointed 🙁 But others on Sephora, including you, are noticing the green, so maybe I swatched a bad batch, so recommend buying where you can easily return

Oh yikes so sorry! My comments about Opal x Jade were meant for Topaz x Gilt! So sorry, getting my highlighters mixed up here. But I did swatch Opal x Jade in store, and it was a very muddy, murky looking mix of a beige base and green on top, there was some shifting, but I just don’t think the color will look good on me. Your swatch looks so much prettier! And all those testers were new, barely touched as they were hidden at an aisle endcap facing a small, tight corner, far away from the main Becca display section, I had to ask the SA for them. So I think there are definitely QC batch issues with this line

The Rose Quartz Flashes Seashell is so pretty on you! I’ll be checking it out next time I go to the mall. Can’t get enough pink lately.
