Surratt because it seems to work better for my hooded eye lids and smaller eyes.
I like both Shu Uemura’s and Shiseido’s.
FYI for anyone who didn’t know (me until a month or so ago) – the refills for Shiseido fit into Shu’s also, which is a plus. I’ve heard that you are just supposed to replace the entire thing and get a new curler instead of just refilling the cord/band thing due to tension in the curler being worn out, but I’ve just refilled it and it’s back to curling like it did when I first purchased.
I have never once curled my lashes. My mother said that the very first thing she noticed about me was that I had very long, curly eyelashes, and they’ve weathered the test of time pretty well. They’re still pretty long and have a noticeable upward curve.

I have never been able to find an eyelash curler that worked on the outer corners of my lashes and that was the most important thing to me because everything is moving downward as I get older. I gave up on the manual curlers and I use a heated one now. It is from Panasonic and is a bit bulkier than some other brands (Sephora, Japonesque) but it is sturdier than the other brands I have tried.
Is it just me or does it seem like the silicone pads are getting very hard in all brands of curlers? I have been shopping around for a brand with pads that are still a little bit softer and flexible, but I haven’t had any luck yet. I’ve tried Shu, Tweezerman, Kevyn Aucoin, and Sephora brands, but the pads are so firm and won’t crimp a good curl.
Tarte: It fits my eye shape and is really well made. Unlike most curlers, it’s not too big or too straight.
Shiseido is still my absolute favorite, tried Shu, not impressed
Believe it or not, I’m still using the same old Maybelline model for probably the past 20+ years or so but I have changed the pad many times over the years and I always clean it off with alcohol after each use. For some strange reason the particular model that I have fits my eye shape perfectly, have never pinched myself and I am able to walk that curler from the base to the tip of my lashes for the perfect curl. I’ve tried others (Revlon, Shu) but always go back to that Maybelline curler. Funny, no?

I’m semi nerdy and I was so intrigued about MEASURING my eye curve and everything so I did it, a number of 6 times (I like even numbers okay?), and got an average, then decided I must buy a curler recommend for my measurements just to see if I really dont like curlers or if i’ve just never gotten the right one for me.
I bought the Kevin Aucoin one during the most recent sephora vib rouge sale event. Now I love curling my lashes, it makes me love my lashes when before I always thought that one day I need to invest in lash extensions or a lash lift because they were so “meh”.
Taking the measurements the first time around is tricky to get used to so I didnt count that in my averaged total, I mustve actually done it 8 times total, so 2 times were to get the hang of the actual process.
The best eyelash curler is going to be the one that fits the curvature of your eyelashes. So far, of the six or so different brands that I have used the Surratt has worked best for me. I also like that it does not have a spring.
I haven’t tried very many, but I really like the Tweezerman rose gold curler. Does everthing I need it to do and the silicone pads aren’t hard in mine.
Kevyn Aucoin is the best so far, but I am still looking for the perfect curler for Latina/Middle Eastern eyes.
The Japonesque ones, but to be fair I have only drugstore versions to compare them to.
The only one I’ve every tried is the Shu Uemura one and I rarely use it – in fact, I have it tucked a way in a drawer in my bedroom (the “overflow” drawer where little-used stuff lives) – I guess I’m just not an eye lash kinda gal (rarely even use mascara!). Even so, it really bothers me that it only come with ONE replacement pad – I mean, seriously? Are we supposed to believe that after blowing through 2 pads, the thing is useless and must be replaced? I’m glad to read that the Shiseido one is good because if I ever do need a replacement, that would be much easier to get my hands on (and I can pay for it with Optimum points!)
I loved the original Shiseido, but it changed a few years ago. Currently I really like Tweezerman’s lash curler for round eyes 🙂
I perm mine. It takes around 20 minutes and the effects last up to four weeks.
In my youth, I used Maybelline but upgraded to Shu Uemura back when Kevin Aucoin first ever mentioned it. I learned that the refills by Tweezerman worked when the pad wears out.
Recently, I had a couple weeks where I lost mine and bought something from CVS. It was horrible. I think I have a small eye. Wont be switching ever.
