How does your skincare routine change for summer?
I tend to reach for something with high SPF if I’m going to be outdoors for awhile regardless of the time of year, but here in Arizona, the sun is almost always blazing hot in the summer and I never, ever forget SPF or to add more from March through October. I’m pretty good about applying higher SPF if I’m going for a walk and the like throughout the year, though 🙂 In the summer, I also keep a facial mist in the fridge for an instant cooldown!
I don’t change much in my routine. I have dry skin so I continue to use a good moisturizer and a good SPF. The one thing I do is to lighten up on my foundation. I just discovered and have been using Cle de Peau Radiant Fluid Foundation which is pretty light so I will continue to wear and see how it handles the summer weather before automatically just changing. In the past I have switched to lighter coverage and have used either a cushion foundation or the Boscia BB cream in light.
Now is the time of year when breakouts are far more prone to happen on my face, so I cut back on using as much in the way of facial oils. Which will make me a bit sad, as they work wonders at keeping my skin smooth and radiant looking. Will still use Marula oil and I am ordering my rosehip oil from The Ordinary, so I will continue using that one, too. Also will begin using my “sunbrella” more now, too, along with trying to avoid being out and about during midday to prevent not only overheating, but also sun damage to my skin. I do make a greater effort to stay hydrated, as this actually is skincare from the inside! Summers here are HARSH! ?
I switch to moisturizers with lighter texture, such as gels or very lightweight lotions. I can’t stand to put anything greasy on my face when it’s hot!
The only thing that changes for me in the summer is that I apply my sunscreen more often and apply it to other body parts that don’t usually see the sun (feet, legs, etc.) I always try to go for at least an SPF of 50 everyday, even in the winter. That being said, I think the SPF number is so misleading since it doesn’t tell you how much protection you are getting against UVA rays that cause aging. I have resorted to buying sunscreens from to get better UVA protection.
I meant to say that I have resorted to buying sunscreens from Europe to get better UVA filters on my sunscreens.
It stays mostly the same, but I’ll swap out my regular night cream and daily moisturizer for something less rich and more gel-like. During the day, I’ll apply a facial sunscreen that’s SPF 30-50 over my moisturizer as well. I recently picked up the Kate Sommerville UncompliKated SPF 50 makeup setting spray, so I’m excited to incorporate that into my routine. I tend to use more charcoal- or mud-based face masks a couple times a week to keep my pores in check, too. I love the idea of keeping face mist in the fridge– I’m gonna have to try that!
Lighter textures generally, less “smoky” eye looks and sun protection, sun protection, sun protection (including my hands, which I wash so frequently and need to reapply – that’s the one area I often forget and for which it’s hard to find a “cheap and cheerful” sunscreen that is creamy or moisturizing enough for my hands since almost everything now is “dry touch/dry feel” – great for the face but not so great as a hand cream with SPF)
I use lighter oils and skip the moisturizer in the mornings. Or replace it with a BB cream. Like you I wear my SPF all year round, but I reapply in the summer more often.
I reach for higher SPF as well as changing out my moisturizer to a lighter one.
No change, really. Both my moisturizer and foundation have SPF so I wear that year-round. I may wear a little less foundation and less makeup in general. Not that this applies to skincare, but in the summer I always look for products that are easy to apply, usually in pencil or crayon form for both lips and eyes….something sweatproof and waterproof. I’m about to try Sephora’s eyeshadow pencils. 🙂
Summers here get hot and very humid, and my normal-to-oily skin goes oily and breakout-prone. So I have to change basically my whole approach to skin care — I switch to ‘for oily skin’ cleansers, a stronger toner, more breakout control products, occasionally a mid-day washing routine of some nature, etc. I am still in search of a really good toner a/o serum approach for summers, am going to try Paula’s Choice options next. I use a high-SPF sunscreen year round, but this time of year I’m more vigilant about reapplying often and I try to stay out of direct sunlight to a certain extent.
It’s not very different!
I have oily, dehydrated skin all year round. So I don’t really use rich, thick moisturizers in the morning anyway. But I switch to a gel moisturizer in the mornings.
I wear SPF 50 every single day. Sun or shine, winter and summer. But I bring a spray SPF with me in my bag, and I’ll pop into a bathroom every couple hours and touch up. I also keep a tube of cream SPF in my bag and I apply that to any skin that’s showing.
I do clay masks a couple times a week to keep my oily skin happy too!
I add sunscreen (sometimes). I can skip moisturizer most days and nights as my skin becomes super oily. I also use fewer products and try to avoid eyeliner and anything that will not last all day.
I use more sunscreen, and at a higher SPF. Otherwise, nothing else is different.
Focusing on zit zapping and fighting dehydration! Also, spf when I can remember. I tend to avoid the sun for the most part.
Higher SPF, more body SPF, and lighter-weight moisturizer.
Use strictly water based products. With the heat and sweat, oil just clogs. At times use sunscreen only, if just around the house, in the ‘hood (beach) or woods. If work, 2 spf products. Maybe I’d better up the spf, bec I started differin some time ago. The main moisture i use in summer is snail. If anyone is looking for Asian physical/mineral sunscreen,Cat @ Snow White and the Asian pear just reviewed a bunch.
I am much more likely to be sure to apply SPF to my arms and legs. It is a must on the face, neck and chest here in Texas – year round. The addition of using on my extremities is more a reflection of wearing short sleeves and leaving legs bare. As summer progresses I actually spend less time outdoors because of the heat, often over 100′, unless there is a pool or lake to get in. Then all SPF is waterproof and constantly applied.
In the hotter months I usually change to a gel based moisturizer too. It seems to help keep my makeup from sliding around. There are also some spray SPFs that can be reapplied over makeup, I don’t own any yet but once I do some research I’ll probably try one out.
I also keep a spray facial mist in the fridge, delightful on hot days!
