Have you ever fallen out of love with a product only to fall back in love with it?

Yes! There aren’t any specific examples that come to mind at the moment (that might be my exhaustion showing, LOL!), but I know there have been instances where I’ve enjoyed a product a lot,
used it up or put it away, and then have rediscovered it!

Yes; four fairly recently, but I can’t say I ever fell out of love with them — just a little benign neglect. I had a Chanel brow palette with three powder shades but when Anastasia came out with her brow wiz, I started using only it in two colors for quite awhile. I decided to go back to filling in with the Chanel powder and completing with the Anastasia brow wiz — much, much more natural. I was able to repurchase the Chanel palette before it was discontinued. Second, I rediscovered my Paula Dorf matte eyeshadow in Luna. It’s a perfect transition color or base color for many different cool-color looks. Third, I’m using my LM caviar sticks again. There for awhile, I wasn’t using them at all. Fourth, just recently I’ve begun to use my Chanel Camelia de Plumes highlighter again and wondered what took me so long. It’s fun to shop your stash. (Mine isn’t that large at all, but I do fall into routines and forget to wear products.)

Had forgotten about Paula D, as I don’t tv shop. There used to be a great m/u emporium near me that only carried the girls, at first, Paula, Trish, Laura. Changed business plan, expanded too fast, and, pooof! I loved some of the products. Luna looks pretty perfect for me, too, in my mauve/greige phase. Maybe I’ll order from PD direct, but chances are it’s duped in stash. What do you consider dupes from your stash? Not a real good idea for me to start tv shopping; the bargains will get me every time!

Anne Avatar

I get it from PD direct. I used to get it at Bloomingdale’s. In my very humble opinion, there are no dupes for Luna — not even close. Seriously! I am fair with pink undertones, and I can tell you that colors like this are one in a million. And, it’s such great quality. PD makes top-notch mattes. I love this color because it’s so versatile. I can do a lot of looks with it. It’s what I would call my perfect ‘taupe’ without it being a taupe, if that makes sense. It’s just a few shades darker than my skin tone. I love it.

Great. I was checking her site. I’m darker than you, but on the cool side. KGD 013. Prob Mac nw 15-20, which is lighter than I thought I was. I remember the blushes and the lips more than the eyeshadows. But this would def be for me…if it’s too light to be a crease shade, it’d do my lid or b bone. In the S sale, I finished off my EnTaupe extension palette for big cheap. Grays, mauves, mostly mattes. To most people, it’d be boring, but it is cool friendly and aging friendly. I impressed myself! Add kvd sanctuary and old Nyx Taupe mixed with old Nyx dusty rose, and my colorways! I think I need luna.

Anne Avatar

I’m about NW13-15. Luna can also be used between the contour color and the highlight color. It’s a great blending color, especially when a darker color needs blending out. It’s very age friendly. I love to wear it on the lower lash line, too. It gives a very soft effect.

No. It takes a lot to fall in love with a product, and once I do, unless the formula changes, my feelings about it never do. That said, even if a product is HG in some cases, it may not always be appropriate for a certain look/event/climate, so it may not used as often as a product I merely “like”.

Anna Avatar

Yes I did! Ordered Hourglass face powders palette and hated it! I havent touched it for a year until I started using a different kind of a foundation, and the powders are perfect for it now!

For sure. Two recent examples from when I recently reorganized my stash: UD Lovelight lipstick; I’d gotten distracted by all my pretty new lippies like Hourglass Lip Stylo, EL Naked Truth, Bite prismatic glosses etc., and am glad to put Lovelight back in primary rotation again. And, UD Riff — I got to playing with Viseart Nuance, a bunch of ABH and Colourpop shadows I picked up over recent weeks; but I’m reminded now it’s a perfect warm neutral for my tone and blue eyes.

I think I am going through it at the moment with Estee Lauder double wear foundation. Up until about 4 years ago, I had combination to oily skin and mostly used the DW.
Then suddenly, my skin became super dry, the same foundation started to break me out. So, I quit on it. Recently, I started using it again (I have normal/dry skin now.) and it seems to work well again! I can’t help but wonder if, maybe I was using the wrong primer? Or maybe my old bottle was old and had been exposed to air too long, this foundation has no pump.

For a while I was really into peachy pink blushes but I started getting into more nudes like Tarte Exposed but now I’m starting to pull out favorites like NARS Orgasm etc and now I’m finally in the mood for those type of blushes again after a long hiatus.

And I’m starting to buy lip glosses again after swearing them off for years. A year ago I maybe had two bc I gave away or tossed most that I had owned but I am getting interested in them again

Ashleigh Avatar

Shimmery blushes, back in love again! I went through a die-hard matte blush phase and slowly backing out of it. I haven’t picked up my Tarte Amazonian clay blushes in ages which are the only blushes I was using for a long time.

Glenda Avatar

All The Time! Right now it’s with Olay Regenerist Micro Sculpting Cream. I had a full jar that was barely used and then I put it away because it just wasn’t working for me. I picked it up again and loved it. Now I’ll finish the jar but not that happy with it again. For some reason there’s pilling that’s taking place.
I have too many examples of foundations, blushes, etc. that it’s just nothing but a see-saw. But I don’t panic because it may be just down in the valley and I’ll reach the mountain again with that product!!!

Silvia Avatar

Not really. I either like something always from first use or hate it from first use. Luckily live most of it except heavy sticky lip gloss can’t stand those.

I buy so much product I clean out my makeup bag often and have a big box I put all the used stuff in. Then when each season is here I go through it and pull out colors for that season.

Tried Skin Medica’s TNS Essential Serum yrs. ago and didn’t notice a difference, esp. for the price. Now, I’ve gone thru half-dozen bottles in last 18 months. Hard to find cosmeceuticals with growth factors that last a long time. Also influenced by how the brand, esp. this product, always seems to show up in university derm depts.

Christina, will you be reviewing the Charlotte Gainsburg Collection for NARS? It’s small and looks impressive.

lulu Avatar

Oh, Christine, bear with me. I’m still figuring out how to use your site! It’s a tecnological encyclopedia. I’m truly dumbfounded by how you manage to do what you do.

I have had an on again, off again, on again love affair with a MAC Eye Shadow x 9: Pastel Times Nine palette. When I first saw it I thought that it just looked yummy and refreshing. I took it home and didn’t start using it until this past February and thought ugh…this is boring, but then I learned a few newer techniques and used them to make this palette work for me and help me make some pretty looks.

Lydia Avatar

MAC eyeshadow singles. The quality is so variable depending on the shade so I got tired of dealing with that unpredictability, especially with the glut of more consistent, newer brands on the market. Recently got Soft Brown and Coppering, and they’re both so easy to work with.

Karen Johnston Avatar

Yes, but I would say it is mostly due to boredom or overuse of certain eyeshadow palettes. Recently I rediscovered the Stila In the Light and the It Naturally Pretty palettes. Great thing about eyeshadow palettes, I have never originally loved one then disliked using without circling back to loving again!

Oh yah.
I just pulled out a much neglected cheapie Milani blush in Dolce Pink for a Spring look I was doing today. THIS BLUSH IS FAB! Better than some of my Nars & Chanels.

Estee Lauder- In general I poo-pooed EL as being a ‘mature’ lady’s brand. But EL was all I could get here in India for years. EL’s Double Wear foundations are the ONLY ting that stand up to the Monsoon humidity & heat. No they are not as nice a finish as my beloved CdP but they’re decent!

Not so much a particular product, but a color family or a certain look. I love bright colors and alternative looks best, and usually change what I use daily. I get bored very easily. However, if I love or hate a product, nothing will change my mind about it aside from discovering a new use for it or having a radical change in my skin.

However, I’ve always inexplicably gone through frequent bouts of loving nothing but one- or two- shadow looks using shimmery nudes, and mauve, nude, or brown lipstick for weeks on end. I just spent the last 5-6 weeks in that mode, actually. Then I’ll suddenly be, “Ewww…how boring!”

I’ll also go through phases of loving the same basic pin-up look every day, and I’ll go back to the same products when I’m in that mode (UD Naked Basics, Tarte Tartelette, e.l.f. Expert Liquid Liner, the same half dozen red lippies). I’ll completely ignore the of the rest of my stash. Then I won’t touch liquid eyeliner for months.

Smokey eye phases are pretty common with me, too. Then I renew my love affairs with Kat von D Sinner Palette, Bobbi Brown Day to Night Shadow Options Eye Palette, or the silver, gray and black from the Hard Candy Shadow-Spheres Light n’ Night Palette.

I’m like you, Christine, in that I know there have been items this has happened with, but I don’t remember specifics. Perks of neuropathic pain meds as they mess up your memory…

I lost interest in the MAC Paint Pots, but recently rediscovered them (in my own stash) and can’t stop using Groundwork almost nonstop as a base, with the occasional foray into Quite Natural and Rubenesque.

Just may be. Big S, so notorious for sending wrong color or allergen ridden samples, sent me a substitute sample Lancôme dual finish, that I used before bare minerals was invented and I hadn’t discovered jane iredale. No ‘agents provocateurs ‘ and the color bisque llC is a go. Maybe you told me to pay attention to things I used to use! Thanks.
