MAC Coconut Fix+ Spray ($23.00 for 3.40 fl. oz.) worked best for minimizing the look of powderiness on the skin after makeup has been applied or for adding a little slip and hydration to the skin prior to applying base makeup. The mist was very fine and even, which helped to ensure that it dispersed well across my face without saturating any area too heavily. There was a noticeable, sweetened coconut scent that was strongest as it was sprayed and then lingered subtly as it dried down but once absorbed, I couldn’t detect the scent any longer.
Fix+ is supposed to “gently sooth and refresh the skin” while giving it a “boost of hydration” and help to “finish makeup.” Though the name might suggest otherwise, it is a hydrating mist that helps to take down the powdery effect of makeup and to give the skin a more “skin-like” appearance (read: less powder, less cakey, less matte) and not a setting spray. Occasionally, MAC releases the formula in scented versions, and with their upcoming summer collection, Coconut is back.
I have, over the years, enjoyed using Fix+ as a mid-day refresher after running errands (with or without makeup) as well as the wetting agent for using eyeshadow damp. The latter is something that I feel like Fix+ excels at and does a bit better than just pure water. Looking at the ingredients, not so surprised, since I used to use a MAC’s Water-Based Mixing Medium for loose eyeshadows (before I was testing without primers and bases), and the first three ingredients in the Mixing Medium are the same as what’s in Fix+ (I’m sure the ratios are different).
Great, I’m trying to cut down on spending of cosmetics. Fix+ is a huge love/weakness of mine…It is fantastic for foil shadows and makes them last ridiculously long…

Do you already have it? The scent is nice (if you like coconut), but the regular works the same!
Is there much of a price difference with this one? I always have a bottle on hand so I’m be tempted to get this coconut one.

Oh I’m super glad to hear that there’s no difference between the regular!! Mine is about halfway. Not going to purchase it. Nope. No. I will not be a victim to packaging and marketing any further D:
I might bite on this one- I LOVE coconut, and the packaging is super cute! I don’t use a ton of Fix+, but it works great when needed and I find that it lasts forever. This would be a fun one to have.
What do you like to use it for, Julia?
I use mostly powder formulas on my face, so in dry weather, or when I just feel too “dusty,” I like to spritz this all over to settle everything down and look a little fresher. (especially if I’ve patted a bit too much setting powder on my under eye concealer).
Same here, Julia, and the coconut scent is one that I generally love and sometimes dislike when it’s too strong and “fake”. I’m off to the mall today and may grab this if it’s available yet at the MAC store.
May 18th is what MAC said in the press release so probably not! I did get an email that they were doing pre-orders online for that particular item, though.
It’s true – coconut “scent” can go very wrong. If you find it you’ll have to let me know what you think!

I’ve been looking at products like this recently, specifically for the anti-powdery effect, and specifically with coconut water. I should start doing some serious comparisons.

I actually did! I found about a half-dozen products and narrowed them down by the ingredients lists. After I eliminated all with fragrance and with too many “meh” ingredients listed before coconut water, or that had too many “meh” ingredients in general, and/or that had review comments that the sprayer wasn’t ideal (not “misting” enough) I was left with Josie Maran Nirvana Hydrating Treatment Mist. I put it on my “curious enough to try someday” list.
The packaging of this makes me wish they sold it in a larger size for refilling so I could keep using the cute bottle, but I don’t think you can unscrew the bottles anyway. I have this and the other 2 minis from the Work It Out collection and I actually prefer the original scent over all of them. Love the packaging on this.
A refillable option would make so much sense!
You can’t I unscrew the limited packaging of the coconut fix+? I have the original and it does unscrew so I plan on filling it w something else.
It’s interesting to me that most cosmetic companies don’t make the distinction between setting sprays and fixing sprays. Especially a company like MAC that even has a “Pro” line. It’s hard for me to believe that cosmetic companies don’t know the difference themselves, but maybe? Or maybe they just think their average consumer doesn’t. So strange.
I’m not sure if in MAC’s case it’s that they’ve had this so long? Setting sprays have been around for years but have become more popular in the last couple of years – I wonder if MAC would have used the same name if they released it today.
I’m completely out of Fix +.I have been using the Milani Make It Last Setting Spray and it is cheaper and does a lot of the same things Fix + does.I think I’m going to get this.I’ve been wanting a new bottle for awhile and that packaging and Coconut sent is awesome.

Christine, do you have a favorite wetting agent for applying eyeshadow damp?
I use just water for testing, but if I was doing it as a regular consumer, I would use Fix+ or MAC’s water-based Mixing Medium. Now realizing that they’re very similar, Fix+ has a better mechanism (sprayer) and serves dual purpose (taking down powderiness) – would be easier to get through a bottle of that than the MM!

I love the packaging, but since I have similar sprays I’ll have to pass. Bummer because the ingredients sound good, and the coconut scent sounds nice. Sigh.
They keep repromoting it, so here’s hoping they bring it back (or make it permanent) by the time you need a new one!
This is one that sounds so nice but I am going to have to smell it first. I learned my lesson about coconut scents when everyone raved about the Physicians Formula Bronzer. To me it smelled like that butter type product that movie theaters used to squirt on popcorn-only with a dash of rancid. (I really disliked the smell…:-(, loved the formula, but had to get rid of it!)
Oh no! It wasn’t overly sweet or fake to me, but I’d definitely smell it first!
I don’t generally fall into the hype for MAC collections, but this one speaks to me somehow. The lipsticks especially. I was disappointed when I jumped too late on the fix+ bandwagon one year when they released 6 or so limited scents and they were all sold out in stores. I just might consider this one. I was interested in the coconut and lavender!

What do you like to use Fix+ for most?
I like it best for setting my foundation, powder and blush; it’s great for taking away any powder-y finish. Plus, it helps keep everything looking fresh all day or night. I recently came home at 2:00 a.m. after a night of dancing (and sweating lol), and when I looked at myself in the mirror, I had to take a pic because my makeup still looked as good as it did when I’d applied it hours earlier. Amazing stuff!
The salesperson at the MAC store said this one is different because it actually has coconut water in it. It’s not just scented. It’s supposedly different then the one that released with Work It Out collection. Do you believe that?
