Wet ‘n’ Wild Gray’s Anatomy Fast Dry Nail Color

Wet ‘n’ Wild Gray’s Anatomy Fast Dry Nail Color ($1.99 for 0.46 fl. oz.) is a semi-sheer duochrome featuring both a murky, grayish green and an iridescent but played down violet. Under flash, it photographed as a purple polish and didn’t come across as sheer. In natural light, the grayish-green cast is more noticeable while the violet takes a backseat. The duochrome is there, but it isn’t as strong as it could be, due to the sheerness of the formula. I see this working better as a layering shade than alone. I did three coats and it wasn’t anywhere near opaque.

Wet ‘n’ Wild, however, claims that their Fast Dry Nail Color formula will dry in sixty seconds, are “vivid,” and “apply smooth for streak-free, even coverage.” It takes a few minutes to dry between coats (I’d say between two and three), which is two to three times the claimed drying time–two minutes is great, but it’s not sixty seconds. Based on the brand’s description of the range, I can’t assume they meant for Gray’s Anatomy to be a lone ranger and designed to be sheer.

I liked the brush, which has a slightly rouded tip, but it seemed a little wider than the average brush, but I think those with narrower nail beds should still be fine, because it did not seem unwieldy. The formula was a little runny and almost watery, which definitely didn’t help opacity issues I had with this color. It did wear well–just under a week with minor tip wear and no chips (I used Zoya Anchor/Armor as my base and top coats).

Wow! So incredibly sheer! When I saI thought it would be similar to the MAC polishes from the Venomous Villains collection but with a regular shimmer instead of the foils… Way off…

Scrangie swatched them both together, and they look virtually identical. She actually said the WnW one took 3 coats for opacity versus 4 for the Lippmann one.

I don’t mind doing more than two coats of a polish IF that means I get a nice, thin consistency with the lack of opacity. I actually grabbed this last week but haven’t tried it yet–I went with the Revlon Black Pearl dupe first.

Check out Opi by Sephora’s “Mashup” (from the Glee collection). That color looks the way I imagined this one would from reading the description and looking at the bottle.

I reviewed a couple of WnW Fast Dry polishes for my blog, and I noticed the same dubious 60 second dry time issue. I think I waited maybe 4 minutes to see if FuchsiaRama had dried yet. It smeared even then.

Oddly enough I like the color on your nails better than on the bottle. My question is this…The photographs…how many layers are on your nails? 3? or just 1? Thanks Christine, another fab review as always.

Hilarious! I just applied this for the first time last night. I applied about 4-6 thin coats for an opaque layer. (I’m kind of patient w/ doing my manicure, so it didn’t bother me.) It’s my first duochrome nail polish, so I’m quite enamored by it. Looking straight at the nail color it’s metallic lilac, but once you move your nails at an angle they flash green. So neat.

After seeing your swatches I tried it on and it’s actually really pretty when you layer on another base color! I’m wearing it over Grey Area from Sally Hansen and you can see the green more 🙂 Still mostly purple but very pretty

I bought this color when it first came out thinking it would be so pretty and 🙁 like you said its so sheer and such a disappointment thank goodness it was so cheap. Would have been an awesome color had it been opaque

This is pretty much exactly what I thought of the polish, too. Good brush, fantastic wear time… DISAPPOINTING colour pay off. I gave up after three coats, even though I was not at all satisfied with the colour. But I agree that it’d be good to add as a little sumpin-sumpin over another, more opaque shade.

The color in the bottle reminds me of Zoya Ki except it flashes more purple and green on the inky base. You should check it out if you haven’t already.

I have this polish and I layer it over black cream polish. Over the black the duochrome really pops and looks amazing. I imagine it would be great over white too, though I haven’t tried that yet.

Julia Avatar

I know it usually looks tacky, seeing the white nail line, but I for some reason think that the sheer color looks gorgeous with your skin tone!

Ajah Avatar

I bought this yesterday because it looks amazing in the bottle. I think I am going to layer it over a silver polish I have, because I don’t like the fact that it is sheer.

I love the gray’s anatomy!!!!!!!!!! Where can I get it,because I live in a small town and we do have a walmart and a walgreens. Which has the best prices and the best availability?

Hi!
If you live close to a CVS pharmacy or a Rite Aid even an Ulta, you should check them out. I found 3 bottles of Gray’s Anatomy at my CVS just this week. They didn’t even have this color a few months ago when I last checked. Also scour the clearance bins as well, you might get lucky there too.

also, at CVS I’ve seen this exact color, same formula, different bottle (somewhat modeled after the Sinful Colors bottle, with slightly more product than the Fastdry bottle – 0.5oz ), different brush (flat, wide, round-tip), under the brand name Spoiled (by Wet & Wild). Literally the same polish at the same store for the same price but in different bottles, in different isles. I wish I had checked to see if they bothered calling it something different.

olo Avatar

another reviewer says they did thicken the formula under the Spoiled brand name and it finishes more opaque. The color goes by the name Paying With Platinum, but is still just a thick Gray’s Anatomy.

Gorgeous! I’ve searched for this since last year and came up empty… until this week I randomly went to a CVS next to my house and I snagged Greys anatomy, Gold and the Beautiful and Party of Five glitters for 1.39 each. Love it, I really wanted Katy Perry’s OPI Not like in the movies but couldn’t find that anywhere. This is a decent dupe of that as well as Zoya’s Adina but wet n wild’s is more sheer than both of them but you still get the effect of a great duochrome for a fraction of the cost.
