Guerlain Cherry Blossom (161) Rouge Automatique

Guerlain Cherry Blossom (161) Rouge Automatique ($35.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a semi-opaque rosy pink with subtle yellow undertones and soft pink shimmer. The finish is a soft frost, and I didn’t have any of the texture issues with Cherry Blossom that I had with Mitsouko.

Guerlain’s description of the Rouge Automatique line describes the color as non-opaque, light, and luminous, so while this may be on the sheerer side, it still seems in line with the range–it definitely gave a visible color difference when worn, but this shade seems to embody what Guerlain described as “luminous, clear and pure color.”  (Nothing in Guerlain’s description of the new formula would make me think these are rich, pigmented lipsticks.)

my thoughts on the formula: Rouge Automatique lipsticks tend to have a very creamy, smooth consistency without being thick (in fact, I’d describe them as thin). They glide on with ease, and the majority of shades seem to deposit semi-opaque to opaque color. Wear for darker shades ranges from six to eight hours, while light to medium shades from four to six hours. It’s an excellent alternative to the luxury Rouge G lipstick–the formulas are comparable (and certainly so with a $11 price difference!), while the packaging gives up the luxury heft of Rouge G, it makes up for in the practicality. It’s a creamy, moisturizing, long-wearing formula with the subtle nuances and finishes I expect from Guerlain.

This looks beautiful on you Christine, but I think on me the frostiness would show up too much. Oh well, there are plenty of others in the line! I can’t wait to see more.

That colour does look stunning on you. I’ll have to check it against Coquette on me, since it’s a little pricey to buy if they’re very close. My wallet is hoping that they’re similar, but I’m hoping they’re different.

This color is gorgeous! I can’t wait for these to hit stores closer to me (or for me to be able to make the trek to my nearest Bergdorf!) I really like the packaging concept, and these colors seem to be much more interesting than the lipstick lines most companies put out.

I’m not feeling the Rouge Automatique line so far from your swatches (which are basically the only online swatches that I trust!) because the shimmer in them just seems too… obvious. almost cheap. I don’t doubt they feel lovely and wear well but the look of the lipstick itself on the lips doesn’t look particularly high end. Such a shame because I’ve been dreading shelling out for a Rouge G, but now it seems that I just might have to (can’t decide on a shade though, such a big decision lol)!

Thanks for doing a review on this lipstick! I immediately went to Neiman’s and tried 161 and LOVED it. I did, however, decide to go a couple of shades deeper to 163, which was more pigmented on my NC45 skin. But I LOOOVE the texture of these! It feels like I’m rolling a stick of butter across my lip (not that I have ever done that, but you get the point:) ).

Thanks for the recommendation!

I tend to like Glosses for Lip Moisturizer, and BOLD color for lipsticks. I totally need a new neutral-ish shade. This color looks amazing. I love the high end packaging of some of the more expensive brands. The idea of spending $30+ on a lipstick used to seem INSANE to me. But, if it makes me feel Glamorous & like a Princess…then it’s worth every penny!! I’m totally ordering this from Sephora in my next haul!! Thanks for the review and amazing pics ;c)
