Guerlain Mitsouko (140) Rouge Automatique ($35.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a muted peach shimmered orange with hints of pink. It’s semi-sheer, which means that your natural lip color will play a larger role in the way the lipstick actually looks. On my lips, it looks like a soft, rosy coral with a frost finish. The orange hue seems to get lost when I wear it. I also felt that between sheer color and the frosted shimmer, the texture wasn’t as smooth; I could feel the shimmer particles when I pressed my lips together.
Guerlain’s description of the Rouge Automatique line describes the color as non-opaque, light, and luminous, so while this may be on the sheerer side, it still seems in line with the range–it definitely gave a visible color difference when worn, but this shade seems to embody what Guerlain described as “luminous, clear and pure color.” Â (Nothing in Guerlain’s description of the new formula would make me think these are rich, pigmented lipsticks.) Â I did feel I had to apply more than your average lipstick to get the color pay off as swatched, which is why it lost a couple of points.
my thoughts on the formula: Rouge Automatique lipsticks tend to have a very creamy, smooth consistency without being thick (in fact, I’d describe them as thin). They glide on with ease, and the majority of shades seem to deposit semi-opaque to opaque color. Mitsouko, however, is one of the sheerest shades I’ve tried (out of five!) and wear time is three to four hours. Wear for darker shades ranges from six to eight hours, while light to medium shades from four to six hours. It’s an excellent alternative to the luxury Rouge G lipstick–the formulas are comparable (and certainly so with a $11 price difference!), while the packaging gives up the luxury heft of Rouge G, it makes up for in the practicality. It’s a creamy, moisturizing, long-wearing formula with the subtle nuances and finishes I expect from Guerlain.

I’m not sure I’m liking this color the best out of the line, but i really want to get one of these lipsticks. When I was younger I had a lipbalm with the slide packaging and this is total nostalgia! Plus I like that they’re cheaper than the Rouge Gs, which are outside my budget at the moment.
Christine, One question please. You mentioned that when you pressed your lips you can feel the shimmer particles. Myself personally, in the past, when I’ve had that happen I’ve either given the gloss/lipstick away or just never worn it. With this particular lipstick, do you think that would be the case for you? Would you avoid it or maybe return it? That then leads me to another question (if you don’t mind) what about a lipstick makes you return the item? Thank you for your time, it’s much appreciated.
For me, probably not, because I prefer to wear lipstick with gloss, so the gloss makes it less noticeable 🙂 I don’t return anything, because if I review it, I feel I got my “use” out of it and it’s wrong to return it. Even before blogging, I’d only return if I had a reaction to something. If you don’t like it, you should return it, though – I’m more comfortable about returns at 24 years old than I was at 18 and 19. Although sometimes I do weird things like return cosmetics in the shoe department, LOL!

Mitsouko is one of my favorite perfumes. Thus, I feel compelled to by the lipstick of the same name.
Looks similar to the Chanel Aqualumiere lipsticks.
too sheer/shimmery for me and corals and other warm colors tend to emphasize any yellow in the skin and teeth :-/
$35 …… really ? ! Note how it’s also smaller @ .12 oz. I must be getting old because lipsticks used to be at least 30% larger than they are now.
The average lipstick is between 0.10 and 0.12 oz.
£55 for a LIPSTICK!!!?!?!?!?! There are far better things to spend you money on. MAC and sometimes Bobbi Brown is the most expensive thing I’d ever buy. But I’d rather buy concert tickets/days out etc etc.

WAY too expensive for something so sheer. Especially since my lips are really dark pink and i need opaque stuff.
I actually prefer sheer lipsticks, and I don’t mind spending a little more for a sheer formula if it’s moisturizing and long-lasting, but something about the finish of this just doesn’t look very expensive to me. I guess it just doesn’t seem unique enough to be worth shelling out the dough, which is something I look for in higher-end lipsticks. It is a pretty shade, though.
Soo this is probably odd, but could you do a video opening one of these? LOL! the tube looks so funky, and I want to see it in action! Haha(:

Guerlain Rouge G’s are my favorite lipsticks of all time. That being said, this color is really unique to any of the Brilliants or original G’s. Can’t wait to try it!

I was looking for a replacement of Estée Lauder new crystal color nude peach (don’t like their texture) then I stumble across this color. I compare it with the nude peach by Burberry, but Burberry one is a bit browner……end up I bought this, it looked like a very shiny nude peach on me, I don’t feel the sparks on my lips tho.
