Urban Decay Good Karma Face Brushes
Urban Decay Good Karma Brushes ($32.00 to $39.00) are eco- and vegan-friendly brushes, which have bristles made out of recycled PET bottles and gunmetal handles made out of recycled aluminum.
- Finishing Brush ($39.00) is a long, flared, flat-edged brush. It looks like a stippling brush, but the bristles were the same length. I felt like this brush was a little too long; it’s very dense, which is nice, but the length makes it a little too springy and floppy.
- Blush Brush ($32.00) is an oval-shaped, angled brush. It is a bit too wide to be used easily for contouring, but it works well for blush. It is dense and soft.
- Powder Brush ($36.00) flares outwards with a very subtly dome shaped edge. It has enough fluffiness to work well with powder but enough density that the product doesn’t get trapped within the bristles. Â Though it works well as an all-over powder brush, it is quite large, so I did find it took some practice to maneuver around nooks and crannies (like the area around the nose).
Even though the outer packaging is made out of recycled egg cartons, I’m just not sure why it is necessary to have such oversized packaging for a brush few are going to actually keep in it. Â Aside from that, I have no complaints regarding the actual packaging of the brushes. Â The gunmetal handles look sleek, have a nice weight to them (not too heavy, not too light), and the shininess doesn’t take to fingerprints well.
final thoughts: The brushes themselves are all very soft and not at all scratchy, but I do find the length of both the Finishing and Powder Brushes to be on the long side, which makes me feel like I have less control over the tool. Â I didn’t notice any difference applying finishing powder with the actual Finishing Brush over the Powder Brush, though — even though the former is supposed to be better at that particular task.

I think they’re way overpackaged for a brush
I love Urban Decay’s brushes. They don’t use goat hair like some OVERRATED companies (MAC).
Quick question – the Good Karma shadow brush that came in my Naked Palette is truly horrible. Lol I can’t put it gently… Do you know if the real shadow brush is any different?
I don’t have a Naked palette with that brush, but I have the Shadow Brush, which I reviewed several months ago if you want to read that review 🙂
Sorry, I missed that. Thanks 🙂
the real shadow brush is marvellous!!! I recommend it is easy to use and also very precise if you need for lines or anything else. I stoppped to use any other similar brush after trying that.
hope this helps
Thanks for the review Christine! I always love your brush reviews as I always hear so many different conflicting reviews and get confused. But I trust your opinion more than any other!
Just looking at the first brush, I thought, It’s too long! But they’re very pretty brushes; I love gunmetal.
I honestly like the large packaging. I’m not a makeup artist or guru so I only own basic brushes like a few blending brushes, a foundation brush, etc. I could stack these and store them easily and keep them neat and clean after cleaning and drying. Did I mention I’m an organization freak? Haha…
Thanks for the post! I was wondering whether you’d say the blush brush is more for pigmented/less pigmented cream form/powder form blushes? 🙂
It’s pretty dense, so I wouldn’t say it’s for pigmented products if you were going for a softer look.
I actually really love the finishing brush. It’s the only brush I have that makes darker, heavily pigmented blushes work on my NW15 skin. (Dirty Plum, I’m looking at you!)
I am sure the MAC 187/188 would work fine with those, too, but I do not own or use any brushes with animal hair, and it is nice to have a quality synthetic option. I do have the EcoTools version around here somewhere, but the longer bristles are too sparse and spread apart for it to be useful in any way.
I do love the angled blush brush, as well, for the lighter blushes. It makes applying the paler blushes quick and easy.
