Lipgloss in general. I use balms, lipstick or liquid lipstick more often
Lip liner. Just never bother.
Lip products with menthol or cinnamon. It’s drying and irritating. I know better so I just don’t!
I came here to say almost the same thing!
I am not as big a fan of glosses anymore and rarely do liner.
Anything minty or menthol gets a hard pass from me too.
Estee Lauder nectar was go to everyday nude, cherry chapstick was my one and only lip balm and jordana matte lip liner chubby version in matte 5th ave
-Nivea Cherry lip balm (reformulated)
-Vaseline Lip Therapy Rosy Tint (there are other petrolatum-based lip balms I like better)
-Stila lip gloss (went bad and I haven’t bothered repurchasing)
YSL Rouge Volupte #9 “nude in private” — am preferring Hourglass lip stylo in Believer for texture and hydration; I customarily use a balm (usually Jack Black) as base, so I’d say I’m not using a ‘no balm’ approach; can’t think of a 3rd.
Wet n Wild MegaSlicks lipgloss in a beautiful peachy-rose color; I think it was Cherish. I went through several tubes of it in the 2000s.
Max Factor Creme Rouge 537 used to be my signature red.
Maybelline Wet Shine Diamonds in Pretty Knit until they discontinued it. (Or it might have been LE, I don’t remember.) It was a shimmery MLBB shade.
I loved the Maybelline Wet Shine Diamonds lipsticks!
I did, too. I had some really pretty nail polishes from the line, too. I wish it had been made a permanent line.
I had a Wet Shine Diamonds lippie too! Mine was a lavender based pink. 🙂
I am still wearing Cherish and glad that metallics are back in
It’s so pretty. I’m half tempted to buy some for spring.
Fresh lip balms, Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Protector and Laura Mercier Natural Lips Sheer Lip Colour.
Oh man, Urban Decay had this lip balm with a sheer tint and a minty taste/smell to it that I was obsessed with. I lost one, then I bought another one at Sephora, and then they discontinued it. All the shades were cities. Mine was NYC. I think there was Miami, Chicago, and LA too. This was like ~ 10 years ago. *tears*
Those L’Oreal wannabe Lancome Juicy Tubes–there was one in Grapefruit something that I loved. The smell was great, but it was so sticky!
Bonne Bell (yes, shhh) had a nude/brown lipstick that smelled kind of lemony. I bought it in the late 90s and haven’t found anything like it since, but I was obsessed with the smell. Also it gave me those Ginger Spice brown lips, lol!
Oh, I just realized the last one was JANE and not BONNE BELL!! Omg. I wish I could find that lipstick again!! 🙁
They weren’t wanna be Juicy Tubes so much as Loreal owns both Loreal and Lancome and they often repackage and sell the same stuff amongst its brands. YSL currently sells a lipgloss that is identical to smell and texture to one sold in the Loreal line except they charge you triple for it lol
Oh I know, they were obviously going for teens and tweens who couldn’t afford the $20 Lancome one.
L’Oreal has a lip stain/gloss hybrid that’s just like the YSL one. Things like that are why I LOOOOOOVE drugstore cosmetics. Same stuff, small packaging changes and a much lower price point = <3
Pretty much all of the Clinique Chubby Sticks for lips. I used to love them, but prefer other crayons now.
Revlon Black Cherry, MAC Brave, and NYX Soft Matte Cream in Antwerp.
The Revlon I tossed out half way through it since it smelled different, the MAC I finished which was a first for me, and the NYX I tossed out too as the scent changed – I have no clue how much of it I had used up.
I wore Mary Kay Raisinberry all the time in the early 2000’s. It’s a medium brown with berry undertones.
Then I got braces and switched to the early drugstore liquid lipsticks that had a moisturizing topcoat on one side and the liquid color in a marker on the other. They were uncomfortable, but they didn’t smear all over my braces.
Lip primer has been slacking this winter as I needed jack black lip, lipsense and lip gloss.
Oh wow, memories…I wore raisenberry too.
Kvd Lolita (too dry, tug on the lips too much)
Fresh lip balm rose color (not hydrating enough)
Vegas volt (too neon for my current taste)
MAC lipsticks in general – I buy a mere fraction. Years ago I used to hang on to those crazy sold out LE releases
Tom Ford lipsticks – The original line – They’re stashed so I rarely bother to ferret them out.
NARS lip gloss pots – a decade ago it was all about Babydoll
OMG, those Nars pots. I worked with a MUA who put Babydoll on EVERYONE. She was obsessed with it.
Tom Ford smells and feels like a MAC lipstick to me. Go figure Estee Lauder owns both. I bought one TF and will not purchase any more. I’m not paying his prices for basically MAC lol
Clinique lipsticks in general, when I was younger and my mom used them, now I just don’t have much interest in Clinique (thought I do want to try the Cheek Pops).
Mac Velvet Teddy, I have it and there’s nothing wrong with it, I just don’t think about wearing it.
Liquid lipsticks in general, I still own them and wear them on occasion but I by far prefer traditional lipsticks that don’t suck all the life out of my lips.
Revlon Lip Butters, MAC Media and lip gloss in general. I switch to lipstick for the winter like I normally do and one year I just never switched back to gloss. I might pick up some of the new Lipglasses with the new release.
Revlon Peach Parfait lip butter – discontinued. I finished a whole tube in almost 2 months because I literally used it everyday.
MAC Evolution Revolution lipglass – I looooved it and wore it all the time but have since somehow misplaced it. I miss it a lot!
Aerie Glow Quenchstick – discontinued. Very, very similar to Too Faced Juicy Melons so I’m not too heartbroken (even though I lament Aerie discontinuing their makeup line all the time).
It’s funny that’s these are all because they’re discontinued and gone and not necessarily because I’ve found something better. I do lean toward roses and plums more that these coral pinks, but still like them a lot too!
Omg MAC Marisheeno! You used to love that thing! OG Temptalia reader over here ??
Those Revlon lip butters were amazing! I was so sad they DC’d them. I had nearly all the shades, and I picked up some at Big Lots (lolllll, yes I buy drugstore stuff there!).
I love finding gems at Big Lots! I’ve never seen the lip butters there though. Hopefully better luck next time! I never got to try Pink Truffle and really wanted to!
Thanks for the tip, Karina! I just found Peach Parfait & Pink Truffle at a Big Lots near me for $2.00 each!
You can’t beat $2!!! What a steal!

It’s like Big Lots for makeup!
(1) Lipgloss.
(2) Revlon’s Colorburst Lip Butters — my first foray into pigmented lip product when I decided to really get into makeup. Got the red (Candy Apple) and orange (Tutti Frutti) ones first. Wore the crap out of them until I got the fuschia one and Fig Jam, the latter of which I realized was my perfect MLBB color.
Stopped wearing them once I dove into lipstick, but I’m still so mad that they were discontinued. Not that I’ve tried any, but the new balm crayons have nothing on that Colorburst packaging. It looks like it’s marketed to 8-13 year olds.
(3) Revlon’s Super Lustrous lipstick line. Jumped straight into Revlon’s lipsticks after the colored balm phase. Target used to have these great BOGO sales at the time. I had 20-25 lipsticks within 4 months. Reds, corals, purples, and all shades of vamp ruled my collection. Then, I discovered matte lipsticks and unconventional lipsticks with my first MAC and indie purchases haven’t looked back since. I’ll definitely return to this collection when I’m a little old lady though, if I ever give up my blues, greens, greys, lavender/lilacs, and black for the reds and oranges that started it all.
Back when they first came out 5 or 6 years ago, I bought almost every single shade of Revlon Kissable Balm Stains. I now only ever reach for Honey! Idk why, either.
MAC Russian Red. I love it on paler or deeper skinned people than myself. Plus, I love reds like: MAC x Selena Como La Flor, MAC Maria Moretti or Ruby Woo much more on myself.
Most of my gazillion Nyx Mega lip glosses never see the light of day. Basically, because I found other formulas that last longer and feel nicer.
A bunch of old favorite MAC lipstick shades (Velvet Teddy, Fresh Moroccan, Girl About Town, Viva Glam IV, Rocker, Dark Side, Viva Glam II). Been considering repurchasing a few of them lately.
MAC Lipglass, which I never buy anymore because it’s way too sticky. My high school shades were: Prrr, Oh Baby, Pop Mode, Lovechild, Entice, Oyster Girl, Nymphette, C-thru. Prrr is so frosty and other than C-thru the others are so sparkly! Lol
UD Lip Gunk in Biker. It has been discontinued for probably 10 years, but I remember really liking it. It was a cool, silvery taupe with some glitter and of course sparkle overkill. I used to wear it with red eyeshadow because I was a goth.
Dude! I love Rocker. Was it DC’d?
As far as I know it was. Didn’t see it on the site when I checked the matte section. 🙁
The Face Shop Finger gloss in PK102 – I finished my whole tube of this bright, hot pink gloss!! It was my go to last summer, and I wore it almost every day. It was stunning!! | really need to rebuy this next time there’s a sale!
Colourpop Tulle Ultra Matte – My all time favourite neutral liquid lipstick!! I used to wear this 3 times a week, it’s a beautiful darkened pinky plum brown on me, and I adore it. I really need to bring it back out!
Kat Von D Hellbent Studded Kiss lipstick – Again, I finished a WHOLE tube of this cool, blue toned red. It’s my current holy grail red for when my lips are chapped. It hides any flakes, and feels creamy and smooth on my lips!! I loves it!
Brave lipstick by MAC, Whirl lip liner by MAC, and Revlon Just Bitten LipStain in Twilight. I even used lighter color lipsticks and pigmented balms over that stain. I still do that effect but I saved those lipstains after hoarding a few away, still sealed. Now I tend to use SkinFood Tomato Jelly Tint in Cherry Tomato. It tastes good and is fun to apply. I will still reach for those Revlon ones, but now I just keep them for posterity. Lol
Bonnie Bell Lipsmacker in Dr. Pepper. Used to wear it under lipstick or use on it’s own. They must have changed the formula because it now makes my lips peel. Anything with menthol in it, as i’ve read that it’s an irritant. Loreal lipstick in Mica. It was an unusual color back in the 90’s.
Chanel rouge coco shine in romance. (Loved the color and formulation, moved onto new something new)
Nuxe rêve de miel lip balm. It was ok, not slippery enough for me.
Maybelline butter gloss in some coal color.
Lipgloss of any kind. I was literally obsessed from the age of 12 til 18. Couldn’t go anywhere without it, and I’d reapply every 5 minutes! The stickier the better! I loved Lancôme Juicy Tubes, in Lychee and Fraise. Also loved one from The Natural Collection at Boots that was clear and mint flavoured/scented, and INCREDIBLY sticky. Then had to deal with the inevitable over straightened hair sticking to my lips!
But my favourite is all was Urban Decay Triple X Shne Cooling Lip Gloss. I can’t remember the shade names and have googled for 20min with no joy. I had a red one and a dark pink glittery one. They were minty too! I wish Urban Decay would resurrect some of their old products. Their early stuff was the best!
For the XXX gloss, I think you’re either talking about Guys Love Betsey or Carney. You’re right; those glosses were great. I loved Heatherette, a brownish rose. I wish they’d bring back more “vintage” colors and products.
Chanel Nude lip liner, which I used to love with a balm on top. I don’t use lip liners very much anymore. Just isn’t necessary for my lips and the looks I prefer.
I can’t even recall how many Bobbi Brown Nude glosses I went through over the years, along with some other shades. The newer formulation is a lot more hydrating and less sticky, but I feel in love with the Armani glosses and never looked back. I stocked up on Armani when they were being DC’d, but I’m still hoping they bring them back.
I also used to use and love a tinted balm from Stila in Nude. It was a skinny silver tube, but I forget the exact name though. It was DC’d years ago.
Lip glosses – way to sticky and drying for my lips
Lip liner – never saw the fuss in using it
Revlon, L’Oreal lipsticks – they never, ever last on me.
I’ve stopped using 1) anything glossy, 2) Dior LE Tulip Pink because the color seems too warm now, and 3) Clinique chubby lipsticks, which I loved but dried out/expired much faster than other stipsticks.
To be fair, I haven’t worn much makeup in the past year, period.
I’m not one to finish lip products, ever. So I used to use
– Maybelline Baby lips lip balm (it felt a bit too oily so I stopped using it)
– Lush Peppermint lip scrub (felt like it dried up so I stopped using it regularly)
– Maybelline 590 Burgundy lipstick (See I almost finished this one but gave it to my mother because it looked better on her)
Nars lip glosses, MAC Verve, Estee Lauder Crystal Baby Pure Color.
I used to wear Etude House Dear my Jelly Lips in PNK01 and OR01, which were bright pink and orange colours. I loved the formula and finish, they were very moisturising and had a juicy, translucent finish to them. I just don’t wear bright colours as often any more; part of the reason I wore them was because I worked at Clinique, and wearing a plain white uniform everyday got boring, so brighter lip colours perked me up a bit. Now I can wear what I like, I don’t need to wear bright colours if I don’t want to, so I don’t get much use out of these lipsticks now. If they came in darker colours though, I would definitely try them again as I do still love the formula and finish. Another lipstick I stopped wearing was a L’Oreal Glam Shine Creme Lipstick in Dream Me Candy, or something like that. I went through one tube and repurchased but then for some reason, didn’t use the second tube as much.
1. Lip glosses. I bought them when I was younger but always lost interest because they started sticky, wore off quickly and (for me) required a mirror to reapply.
2. “Safe” colors. I still wear them sometimes, but since I have gotten older, I’m more comfortable in my own skin to wear bolder, darker and brighter reds and berries on an everyday basis.
3. My daughters bathroom reminded me that I gave up anything “flavored” in terms of lip balms. Yucky.
Buxom Full-On Lip Polish. I had so many of these but I just really can’t be bothered with lipgloss anymore. Plus, since I’ve moved to the east coast, it’s really cold for a lot of the year and the minty/cooling/plumping quality feels horrific in low temperatures.
I used to wear a ton of Mac lipstick and wanted to keep buying them and collecting them, but now I’m not as interested. I’ll use the ones I have from time to time but I don’t really want any more. I guess I’ve become more of a low-maintenance liquid lipstick person.
I can’t think of a third, really!
1) Hourglass Lipgloss
2) Revlon Lipgloss
3) Revlon Super Lusterous
I still like all these, just don’t use them as I used to.
