Chantecaille Sea Turtle Palette Review, Photos, Swatches

Chantecaille Sea Turtle Palette

Chantecaille Spring 2011: Sea Turtle Palette

Chantecaille Sea Turtle Palette ($79.00 or 0.42 oz.) is a limited edition color palette for spring. It is a refillable palette, and the eyeshadows are easily removed if one desires. Inside, there is a base color, eye color, cheek color, and eye definer. There is a raise turtle design on each shade, and the turtle itself has a metallic sheen overlay (which disappears upon first swatch).

The base color is a pale, gilded beige with pale gold shimmer-sheen. The eye color is a medium-dark brown with slight warm undertones finished with a soft satin sheen. The cheek color is a pink-peach with a peach-gold sheen–think shades like MAC Springsheen, NARS Orgasm, etc. but less shimmer, less golden, and pinker. The eye definer shade is a charcoal forest green with a frosted finish. All four shades were silky smooth and nicely pigmented; there were no issues with the textures or the colors at all.

The three eye colors can all be used wet or dry, though I had no issues with pigmentation and they went on so prettily dry I didn’t even think to use them wet until I read the description of Chantecaille’s eyeshadows online! Funny enough, this palette is cheaper (by the ounce, at $188/oz.) than MAC ($290/oz.), Make Up For Ever ($238/oz.), NARS ($228/oz.), and Urban Decay ($340/oz.).

final thoughts: I think it’s a really well-done palette with not just a lovely set of colors presented with beautiful decor, but the quality of the eyeshadows and blush is fantastic.  Very smooth, soft, and easy to use.  They blend effortlessly and pack quite a bit of pigment.  I’m also happy to see how much product was included in the palette and love that it is refillable.

Does the eye definer look similar to Too Faced’s Label Whore? Maybe a bit darker? Well, this a beautiful palette. Thanks for reviewing 🙂

Christine Avatar

It’s not quite that kind of shade – Label Whore is a brighter, deeper shade – not as black, more shine, more color. I initially was thinking something similar (also along the lines of Deep Blue Green, Club, Loaded, etc.) but it’s so much darker and has just a faint hint of green.

Wow, the eye definer is gorgeous! It looks like a sea turtle’s shell. But even if it is cheaper by the ounce, $80 is a lot for me to spend on something that won’t have those cute little turtles anymore after a couple uses…

Rachael Avatar

They are beautiful colors… and I love the turtles on them (so cute!!). But that is alot of money to spend at once on one palette of colors… what a shame. I wish I had the $$$ for it.

katie Avatar

I wish I could afford this! Especially since there’s so much product for the price. If it’s still around after I save up some money I’m definitely buying it, especially since it helps marine life!

Addison Avatar

I love this palette, and even though it is cheaper per ounce than most company’s I still can’t justify buying it…*sob*
But it was really nice to see your review and thought’s on the palette!
Thanks Christine!

Ohhhhhh, I love it, but it’s just too expensive for me! It seems like a really good deal as far as price per ounce, but since I never use anything up, overall price is more of an issue for me. (Also I love those cute turtles so much I wouldn’t want to use it…!)

Just a bit too pricey for my budget, especially when I’ve got a list of other makeup-y stuff I want to buy. While it might be a good amount of product for the price, $79 US will probably translate into close to $90 or $95 CDN (even though our dollar is at or close to parity) and that’s a bit steep.

This palette is gorgeous and I love sea turtles, but $79 is just too much for a product I’d barely use. I wouldn’t even want to touch it for fear of ruining the beautiful turtle design. I’m glad this palette is in support of marine wildlife, though. I hope it sells out.

I’ve heard a lot of buzz about this palette but it’s more than I typically would spend on a palette. I normally don’t go beyond the price of a Chanel quad, but your pictures and swatches have convinced me to splurge!

thank you!

I’ve been waiting for this at my Holt Renfrew…I need to save up first though! I’m glad you’re finally doing a review on Chantecaille’s palettes that donate portions of their sale to charity. They need more PR so more people will buy them (for charity)!

Lisa G Avatar

Oh my, I think this palette is gorgeous! I’ll have to add it to my wish list. Even though it’s pricey, I think it’s worth it. I really don’t own anything like it (except NARS orgasm).

While contemplating buying this, I tried to think of any dupes I had. The only one that came to mind was the MAC Burmese Beauty Quad – those shadows seem similar. Anyone else think so?
