What brush do you use for liquid foundation?

What brush do you use for liquid foundation? Why?

I  use MAC’s 109 — I like the small brush head for getting into the nooks and crannies, but I also like the domed shape for an airbrushed finish.

I use ELF powder brush (the black flat top one) =) It helps to stipple and blend and buff the foundation blending like a second skin. I got complimented whenever I use this method, some people didn’t even think I was wearing foundation!

I use two brushes — Sigma F60 (flat foundation brush) and F80 (flat-top synthetic kabuki). The first for application, the second to take care of brush marks and buff it in to the skin.

I use the 188 for liquid foundation for the same reasons – it is small enough to get into the small areas of my face, even if it takes me a longer time to prepare! x

How do you keep yours from shedding so much? I use it for my liquid/cream foundations and the brush leaves little hairs all over my face that I have to pick off. Just wondering how yours performance and maybe I just got a bad brush?? Thank in advance.

I use Mac 130 to blend foundation all over my face, then use the pink sponge called beauty blender to even out my face. After that I take Mac 150 for apply loose power

I like to use the 197 for liquid foundation.

Christine, I am surprised you use the 109. Every time I try to use it for anything, ESPECIALLY liquid, it sheds like no other. I’ve even tried washing with pink soap brush soap from Michael’s, and then conditioning it with some of my Redken conditioner. That helps but only a little bit. I don’t get why the 109 sheds so much, none of my other natural hair brushes from Mac do that.

Not necessarily into brushes when it comes to liquid foundation (from my own personal experience, sponge wedges work the best), but if I had no choice but to use a brush, it would definitely be the 187 for a flawless airbrush finish.

i use my fingers.. for blending into the hairlines and the neck i use MAC’s 188.
this brush blends very evenly because it’s a duo fibre brush!.. with this brush i don’t have to be scared because of harsh foundation lines!

heidi Avatar

A basic duo fiber stippling brush. I used use a classic foundation brush but this seems toi blend better and I don’t have as much trouble with streaking

I actually use two brushes: I use MAC’s 190 to apply the product and then the 187 to blend it in. It gives a smoother finish than using only the 190 😉

I use one of the Sigma due fibre brushes, though I’m not sure of the number. It’s just like the F55 they show on there now, but I believe it’s the larger version. That usually comes in after using a sponge for initial application. The brush is just to disperse and create a better finish. I tried using the brush start to finish once and didn’t like it, the sponge is needed for me.

Whippetlady Avatar

I have tried using a brush but I really can’t stand the finish I get with it. Takes 4x as long as applying foundation with my fingers and then I get to wash the brush after? No thanks. So my Clinique Foundation brush sits in semi retirement, only trotted out for occasional applications of powder foundation.

i first started out using sonia kashuk flat top blusher brush which i love but since i’ve gotten other brushes. i feel like it’s kinda small and takes a longer time to put on my foundation so now i absolutely love the elf powder brush and for only $3 it’s freakin amaaazing! i also have the sigma f80 and f82 but i feel like those are too dense for my preference and my revlon colorstay can feel masklike on my face. i really have to watch how much product i put on my those brushes. but with my elf brush even though people say it’s so dense. i don’t think it’s that dense. not as dense as the sonia kashuk nor the sigma brushes. sigma f60 foundation brush sucks! it is so scratchy, i hate it!

i currently use my MAC 188, but before that, i used a sonia kashuk (from target) flat blusher brush. a good brush, and it was only $14.99. only drawback was that it didn’t hold up to the cleanings (mine lasted about a year), but it was good since i didn’t have the cash to purchase a more expensive MAC at the time…

ann Avatar

yes i agree, the sonia kashuk brush does not hold up well with several washings.i’ve already tossed out about two or three of them within a year and a half

I use my fingers! My foundation (Nivea Extreme Resist Foundation) is too opaque/full coverage to apply with a brush, plus I enjoy placing little dots of foundation on my face then blending them out with my fingers ^__^

Natalie Avatar

I use tons! I use either MAC 109, 130, or 190 depending on what look I want/the product – ie, for my Mineralize SPF foundation, I only ever use the 130, but for my MUFE HD I may do 109, or 190, or my beloved BeautyBlender, all which work fabulously! If I’m just using my MAC Studio Moisture Tint, I use the 109.

Julia Avatar

I’ve never been able to use a brush for foundation! Everything I’ve tried just makes it look streaky so I use disposable sponges which work best 🙁

I use Essence of Beauty Foundation Brush mostly for everyday. Is HUGE, velvety soft, dense and very decent quality; also what I like is its pointy shape so you can perfectly use it to get into the small areas.

Gina Avatar

I use the MAC 188, or the Sephora #55. The #55 brush looks pretty similar to MAC’s 109, but it’s made for liquid products. I alternate them so that I’m not washing brushes everyday!

Elizabeth Avatar

i use a sigma F60 (flat foundation brush) for the most part, and sometimes to help finish blending i will use a skunk brush also by Sigma 🙂

Maria_Vittoria Avatar

MAC 187 with Face and Body foundation, a damp sponge for thicker formulas (Estee Lauder Double Wear). Also, a flat brush to achieve maximum coverage, I especially love Laura Mercier Cream Blush Brush (smaller than regular foundation brushes ergo more precise). Sometimes I use my fingers, esp. if I’m trying a new foundation for the first time, to feel the texture and control the application.

Helen Avatar

I don’t use a brush. I can’t seem to get the hang of it…it always seems to go on too thickly, I can see the brush strokes, I don’t have the patience for it. I’ve used a sponge since I was a teenager.

blue_eyed_girlie Avatar

I use the MAC 188 and the MAC Kabuki to blend but HATE both because they shed all over my face. I have to use a lash comb to get the black hairs off my face. I need to get something else but money is tight at the moment. 🙁 I need recommendations.

MARGO Avatar

MAC talked me into the 130 brush and it was expensive. I have never used a brush with foundation and am not sure even how to apply the foundation with the brush. Some of you gals have had good luck with this number brush but I hope it will allow me to put the makeup on lighter not heavier as I am used to doing. Wish me luck.
