Hourglass G*psy Eyeshadow Duo

Hourglass G*psy Visionaire Eyeshadow Duo ($38.00 for 0.20 oz.) is a beautiful neutral duo featuring a shimmering, warmed-up champagne beige and a rich, coppered chocolate brown. Hourglass’ Eyeshadow Duos are such an underrated and underappreciated product–the quality is absolutely phenomenal and the shades are infinitely flattering.
Selfishly, I wish they had about a dozen more duos, because their eyeshadows are easily some of the best I’ve come across–and better yet, the quality is fantastic across the range. There are no duds in their duo line-up. Soft, smooth as silk, and buttery texture paired with intense color pigmentation that glides on, blends effortlessly, and can be used wet or dry.

The $38 may seem steep, but don’t let it fool you: there are two full-sized (actually, more than that) eyeshadows inside. Each eyeshadow is 0.10 oz., which is double the average full-sized eyeshadow, for a total of 0.20 oz. The packaging is also this pewter bronze with a swivel top that reveals a mirror inside along with a pint-sized brush (with real bristles) that’s usable and not scratchy.

FINAL THOUGHTS: Hourglass as a brand is underrated, but their eyeshadows are easily my favorite product from the brand.  There is something to be said for a brand that puts out consistently high quality products with to-die-for textures.  This duo will naturally flatter warmer skin tones but they are not too warm–they will work well on cooler and neutral-toned skin, too.

Agreed which is by I’m not keen on shelling out $44 CAN per one but I’ve been on a swap hunt for these for a while and continue to do so.

Sometimes I wish companies would just give less of the product for cheaper. I don’t know that I’d necessarily buy this for $38, but if the eyeshadows were half as large, I’d gladly pay $19.

I’m not necessarily disagreeing with you, but I do agree with Vijaya, because I’d rather have to repurchase something I use everyday than spend double on a shadow that I may only use for special occasions.

these look really pretty. unfortunately they are so similar to other less expensive shades it would be hard to justify the price. looks like sin/smog almost (maybe one of the lighter MACs on the light shade, can’t think of the name) color looks nice & rich though. for another underrated brand I love thebalm. shades are very flattering on and the palettes have 9 shades as big as MAC or UD singles and the singles are .12 for like 16-17. sexy stacey is a dark smoky pewter

I also want the prism duo…I just recently bought Dandizette from the MAC peacocky collection and compared it with the blue color in the prism duo, and they’re a pretty close dupe if you want to check it out :-).

i think UD’s sellout (for the lighter shade), and roach (for the dark brown) are similar if anyone is interested. I love these colours but unfortunately no UD in Ireland

I’m really starting to love the brand Hourglass because of Temptalia!! I only have their Extreme Sheen Gloss in Verse (gorgeous!) but they discontinued it at Sephora. Anyways, I hope you’ll be reviewing more different products form Hourglass! Your reviews really help me choose what I want to buy!

Thanks again Christine!! 🙂

A question for you. This is not the first time you review this brand of eyeshadows. From what I’ve understood, the price is quite high, but each time I look at the pictures, the “pan” (don’t know how it’s called in English), the pressed powder rectangle, is not “clean”. It has a lot of dust around and the symbol of the hourglass is never well-defined. So I was wondering… the products have been used before you took pictures, or maybe you got them via mail so they have been spoiled for delivery, or what else…? Usually high end brands show perfectly “new” products…
Just curiosity
Thanks

it actually looks pretty warm, which is why i didn’t get this last time. but I agree that these are amazing quality shadows. I got Suede earlier and love it, though i guess they are all rather dupeable shades. lol

It reminds me of a Lancome duo that I have used so much I can’t see what it is named anymore. It is a perfect neutral though and blends so well.

Hi christine, I was just wondering how long these shadows last with/without a primer? My lids are slightly oily and my UD 24/7 liner smudges into my shadows after a few hours…
