The Best I have ever tried was:
Chanel Double Perfection Lumiere
Oh how I miss it. Everyday. Their replacement Le Teint Ultra Tenue just does not perform as well on me, and I’ve had a difficult time matching my skin tone with their newer product. Oh Chanel, if you’re reading this, please please bring back the older formula. Please.
My current runner up would be:
IT Cosmetics Celebration Foundation.

Root Cosmetics has a Pearl Powder foundation that is D.I.V.I.N.E. While it can be used traditionally (dry with brush) I hate the way it looks that way. Sort of a glittery mess. However, when you blend it with water, and apply with a damp beauty sponge, it’s a satin flawlessness that is truly amazing. I have DRY sandpaper skin and this wears wonderfully on me. I got my daughter hooked on it (22 yo w/oily skin) and she loves it as well. She said that it wears thru her work shift and she doesn’t look greasy at the end like she usually does with conventional makeup.

I REALLY like It Cosmetics Celebration Foundation (the black compact! Not the illumination one!) I’ll do a bit of corrector under my eyes and then buff this powder all over my cheeks and T zone and I’m ready to go out the door and feel confident and beautiful!!! 😀

It just sucks because we don’t have ulta in canada, and the It Cosmetics website doesn’t ship to canada. So I have to get a american friend to mail it to me every 6 months 😛

Very limited experience during my 50’s with using powder foundation here, only have one that I use currently, Wet N Wild Coverall in Medium, which I only ever use during our redonkulously humid monsoon season. This shade is a little bit too light, but it does darken over my BB cream, so it’s not bad for tamping down oiliness and shine. But hey, it works!

I used Diorskin Forever compact years ago and loved it. I used it over sunscreen but it had additional sunscreen of 25spf I believe. Was great for touchups.

It gave good coverage but looked natural: I found it was “my skin but better”. I did have a bit of a problem with the shades. Ivory was a bit too pink, light beige too neutral and linen was perfect tone but a bit too dark. It worked if I had a tan but I really try not to tan.

This foundation is discontinued. The replacement hasn’t gotten very good reviews. Story of my life….LOL. I now use Laura Mercier’s Smooth Finish Powder Foundation and it is very good. LM has very good shades.

I haven’t tried really any, but I use the Bourjois Healthy Balance Powder as my setting powder if I want a bit more coverage than my liquid foundation is giving. But yeah, not a powder foundation person for actual “foundation” purposes. I’ve got really dry skin so that’s not gonna go well for me.

Too Faced Cocoa Powder foundation! I never hear anyone talk about it but it’s a holy grail product for me. I used to use a Dolce and Gabbana powder foundation that my mom gave me (the color was too dark on her), and I still like the Too Faced way more.

I tried Lancôme years ago I think you could wet it but didn’t think much of it. And I used bare minerals for a bit but would never anymore bc of the health concerns plus it seemed to emphasize pores and such.

The last one I really loved was Dior. I have a decent one from Gabriel Organics that I like. I also used to like one from Fresh when they did color products more, but it was a hybrid of a setting powder, highlighter, and foundation. Studio Fix used to be a go too but the color was always off for me because back in the day NC 15 was the lightest shade.

Iredale. Replaced it, when all of the preferred lighter liquids had at least one chem sunscreen. As it was summer, picked the darker of the 2 shades I wore, and it is much warmer than I remember. It is a good formula, but I’m really looking forward to getting KGD waterbased. Never even thought to check Guerlain for powder foundation. Customer reviews say that YSL is too pink; maybe I’ll check that one out. Powders tend to use zinc/titanium as their sunscreens, better for me.

I don’t like using powder foundation, BUT there is one I find myself going back to over and over again if I need to slap something on real quick.

And that is: the Makeup Forever PRO-FINISH foundation.

You can actually use it wet or dry, but dry is way better in terms of application. Unlike a lot of other powder foundations, this one has emollients surrounding the powder pigments, making it super smooth and easy to apply, and it almost looks like a liquid when applied.

I have oily skin with eczema, and it doesn’t stick to any dry patches, thankfully, BUT I find that in my oilier areas, it does break down a little. A problem easily fixed with some more translucent powder. So, overall, great for dry skin types looking for powder foundation.

The only thing I don’t enjoy about it, though, is that it does oxidize QUITE A BIT. So, as a general, I recommend going one to two shades lighter.

But yeah….IT’S A WINNER IN MY BOOK!

I have a very dry skin, so the only one I tried is MAC Mineralize foundation loose as a powder, not as a foundation. BUT! It is sooo good! Makes your skin flawless. I definitely recommend it to anyone to try!

I used to use MAC Mineralize Skinfinish, but ran out one day and picked up Physician’s Formula Mineral Wear Talc-Free Mineral Airbrushing Pressed Powder SPF 30 at a drugstore. It turns out I like it much better! Despite being a powder, it gives a subtle glowy finish with surprisingly good coverage.

I only use powder foundation. I like UD, MUFE and others. But, right now I’m using Bare Minerals new pressed powder foundation. I like the coverage and how it looks in daylight.

Mine was Chanel Double Perfection powder compact. So easy to apply, very good coverage and lasted the entire day. I even like the sponge applicator. I still have some product left around the perimeter of my huge pan hit and save it for days when I don’t have time to apply a liquid foundation and blend blend blend & set. Perfect color match for me as well – B30. RIP Double Perfection! It has been discontinued…

I have only tried Shiseido’s UV protective compact. It’s a powder foundation with SPF 36. It’s pretty good but can look a bit cakey when I don’t apply a moisturizing primer underneath. I’m going to try more Japanese products because they have SPF in pretty much any powder compacts.

For a loose powder foundation, Alima Pure is really good, and they don’t use the irritants that some other brands do.

I wanted to try a pressed one and tried the NARS one in store a while back and liked the coverage and finish, did not stick to dry areas. But then when I later went to buy it, people were talking about a formula change and now the coverage isn’t as good so now I’m not sure how different it is. Alima Pure also has a pressed version, which I’m considering also.

I have tried a ton of mineral powder foundation and after doing lots of research I found Lily Lolo and it is the best ever. Great shade selection and you can order samples. None of the nasty stuff in other powders and SPF too.

I like either the Lancôme Dual Finish foundation or the Urban Decay Naked Skin powder foundation. I do not use the puff or sponge that comes with them but use a kabuki brush instead. I had in the past used Bare Minerals Ready foundation but since it’s been discontinued, I’ve not gone back to find what shade in the Bare Pro I would be.
