- Haul: Urban Decay Vice Lipsticks (4 of the 5 I was missing, 1 was out of stock), Ditypque Rosa Mundi candle because I am a sucker for mint green and pink, new Coloured Raine eyeshadows
- Weekend plans: Write reviews like crazy! I spent so much of this week photographing/swatching and then editing those photos that I did not put out as many reviews as I normally would.
- Do you or have you kept a journal?: I haven’t in a very, very long time, and the few times I tried, it lasted for a week.

Weekend plans: I have a 3 day weekend since I work in DC and we have off today due to the inauguration. I need to go look for a new refrigerator since mine seems to be dying a slow death. I’ll probably go look for a new bath pillow at Bed, Bath & Beyond. Will also try to get some errands accomplished since my daughter is having surgery on thursday so it will be a 3 day work week for me coming up and I won’t have any free time to get things done.
Do you or have you kept a journal?: Nope. It’s all in my head…like a steel trap…LOL 😉
Do you have a favorite hair mask or treatment, Michele? I see you know your hair stuff 😉
Enjoy your three day weekend!!
Hahahahahaha! I use Oribe Mask for Brilliant Color twice a week and my fine, thin, color-treated hair loves it. I always pair it with a restoring shampoo; which I recently switched to Oribe Gold Lust. I have a sample of the Oribe Gold Lust mask and, if I like it, may begin to alternate between the 2 Oribe masks. But I always use either a hair oil (White Sands) or the Oribe cream on the mid-lengths to the ends daily (whether I style or not) to keep from getting split ends and also to keep away any frizz. Since I started the regimen I no longer have any issues with split ends, breakage, frizz, or static. The Saphira hair mask is excellent at softening and smoothing hair BUT the smell (which doesn’t bother me but is strong so it’s something you either like or hate) lasts all day and interferes with any fragrance you might want to wear so I don’t use it anymore.
Thank you, Michele!! 🙂
Appreciate the heads up about the smell – I usually don’t like anything that lingers THAT much!
Yeah, it’s really a shame because the mask is amazing.
Do you use the oribe glaze? I think I may try that shampoo and conditioner for beautiful hair. I have been using color proof but recently colored my hair violet so I want to keep it nice and need a switch up
I tried the Oribe glaze but it was too heavy for my fine, thin hair. I can’t say enough good about the shampoo and conditioner for beautiful color. I will say though that oribe just released a duo for silver hair – Silverati. It’s supposed to keep away dullness and prevent yellow tones. As I’m not a stylist, don’t know if that might be better for violet hair. If you send them a message on facebook, they usually respond within 24-72 hours. You may wish to ask. Their team is incredibly with respect to giving advice. (Alternatively, if you prefer to email, they also respond to emails to: info@oribe.com).
I hope your daughter recovers well from her surgery and that she is not too ill.
Thank you!
Haul: Nothing yet, I may go to Sephora today though.
Plans: I don’t know what my plans are, I’ve been invited for dinner to my neighbors house. It’s going to be an interesting evening.
Journal: Not since my teen years, mostly because of incrimination! If it’s not written down, it’s not premeditated 😛
LOL! That is true about journaling 😉
Interesting evening? Have fun….
LOL….I’ll bail you out!
Christine, I have followed Temptalia and watched it grow since 2009. I look forward to the Mellan photo every Friday. He is a dear soul and it certainly is evident how much you care for him. I am sorry to hear about his health issues but glad you have found it early. I am sending Mellan all the best for good healing and stable health. As a pet mother myself I know how precious are animal children are. Stay well Mellan!
Thank you so much, Anna! 🙂 That is the best we can hope for – that we detected it early enough to manage/reverse some of the damage (the liver is pretty cool, since it can regenerate) and then minimize future damage so that it never fails.
Sweet Mellon- I hope he is feeling better and you’re able to come up with a good treatment plan through your vet. Fur babies are family!❤
Haul: we had to run into a Nordstrom rack for a tie for my husband last weekend, so I browsed their cosmetics and picked up a UD Big Fatty mascara (not bad), a backup of the 24/7 Liquid Eyeliner in Perversion for only $6, and a tube of Too Faved Glitter Glue for only $10, which I’ve really been wanting to try.
Weekend plans: Tidy the house, menu plan for next week, try to get the doggos on as many walks as I can since we are having a mild weather spell
Do you or have you kept a journal?: Intermintently when I was an adolescent, which I rediscovered when I was about 25 ?, and I had a xanga for a little while in college (sort of a blog journal). Not currently though, and I doubt I’ll pick up the habit again.
Glitter Glue for $10 is a steal!
Omg Xanga hahahhaa that’s how I started blogging & web designing. I was 11! Crazy.
I am so gladdened to hear Mellan has some treatment options! You are lovely pet parents and he will continue to have his long, happy life with the best care and love possible. I’m still sending him and your family all my healing energy and loving vibes. You couldn’t ask for a better baby and he couldn’t ask for better parents. My 19-year-old cockapoo mix has a variety of chronic conditions but remains healthy, happy, and cared for. NINETEEN! Now that you have the info he’ll get the treatment that makes him feel much better! *Big loving hugs*
Haul: I picked up the new Becca First Light Primer (the lavender one) and Golden Hour setting powder (was nervous it would show up dark on my NW-05ish skin but it’s absolutely perfect) a few days ago and have nothing but the highest praise for both products. Yesterday my MAC order with some of the Kabuki Magic items came in (the purple and blue eye paints, some of the kajals, etc). I’m also definitely returning the Lancome Rose highlighter I picked up as it does not work at all on me, as in nothing shows up at all. And I started using the Peter Thomas Roth 3% retinol at night instead of the 1% with great results so far. Been using the 1 percent for years happily but the 3% has already started increased results.
Weekend Plans: Memorize lines, screen test some outfits and makeup choices, re-organize my backstage kit for work. Lots of playtime with Gus (the cockapoo), Monster (Pom-Fox), and Onyxia (tortie cat). Re-catalog and document my makeup collection.
Do You Keep a Journal: Sort of. I don’t keep a daily diary or log but I do frequently make notes, to-do lists, little reminders, quote collections, etc.
That is awesome to hear that your cockapoo has done so well! 19 — well-done, small dog or not! Both of my family’s dogs growing up lived to be around 15-20 (they were rescues, so hard to say how old they were… but at a certain point we got to saying, well if they were one year old when we got them, they’d be 19… lol). I think that it is hitting me a lot harder because he already has several health issues, so to get more is just frustrating.
The Kabuki Magic section was the most interesting, and I also bought the new paints (NEW PAINTS WHAT!)… hopefully they arrive today sometime.
I know how you feel, lovely. It’s frustrating and you so wish they could just tell you exactly what hurts and how to make them more comfortable. But you guys caught it and the liver is a strong organ. Watching our beloved pets age is difficult no matter what. But he couldn’t ask for a better mother to guide him through this. We carry their pain and it’s a lot but all that love is worth it. Stay strong. We’ll be here for you guys. I worry over Gus often but then I force myself to confront the anxiety and enjoy each second I have with him. Mellan is happy and loved and that’s the greatest comfort. *BIG HUGS*
I was surprised at how varying and interesting the Kabuki Magic collection is! Not all of it will be a winner I’m sure but I’m glad to see MAC experimenting a little. I KNOW, NEW EYE PAINTS! Couldn’t believe it! I have a soft spot for the eye paints since it was one of the first shadow formulas I loved and used regularly when I was younger. Very surprised mine came the day after ordering. Wasn’t anticipating that. I thought the Haz Mat tag would make it take a bit longer.
Thinking of you <3
Thanks, Celia! 🙂
I did a double take when I saw new paints in the press release when it was announced, because they’ve just kept discontinuing them, LOL.
Same here. I even went to check out the classic eye paints to make sure I wasn’t wrong. But nope. Only two shades left of the classics. Was very pleasantly surprised by the inclusion.
Good to know the BECCA primer is good. How strong is the scent in it?
When you first apply it you definitely get a lemony-sugary whiff but it dissipates after 10-15 seconds. I vastly prefer scent-free face products but at least the scent fades somewhat quickly.
How do you like the Kabuki Magic eye paints? I think I’d like to try them… anything that creases like crazy won’t work on my lids, though, even with primer, so I’m not sure.
I think I need to try the 3% retinol! I’ve been using 1% retinol from Paula’s Choice, which does not irritate my sensitive skin at all, but any effects seem to be preventive.
I really love the ones I have so far (the blue and purple. I may pick up the white pearl one as well). I have oily lids so I’m prone to creasing as well which is why I tend to gravitate to long-wear creams and paints often. At least with those they usually work well and a good formula will be easy to set with powder if you want. I’m a big fan of the Eye Paints usually because I find they wear really well and depending on the shade are easy to sheer out. These are INTENSE on the pigment so less buildable then the classic shades because they’re very bright. But definitely so far my wear with them has been great. I tried without primer and with and both worked really well. However, I do feel I need to test a bit more so let me do that today and tomorrow and I’ll come back to you with a confirmation 🙂 So far I think it’s safe to say I recommend them. And definitely if you set it with a same-color powder they’re not going anywhere or creasing.
WARNING THOUGH: You definitely don’t need to squeeze out the product. It comes out fast as the tubes seem over-filled so just open it, grab product, and close it ASAP. Otherwise you’ll get more product than you want. For me they’re definitely worth it. They remind me a bit of Milk’s Eye Pigments if you’ve ever tried those, which IMO is Milk’s best product.
So the blue is the star for me. The Purple is still good but it creased a bit. The blue is amazing and wears great!
Oh yeah! Sorry I forgot to bring up the Retinol 😛 I use the Paula’s Choice 1% Clinical as well (I have two different retinol-based routines I switch depending on skin need. Plus one for vitamin c-based nights but that’s neither here nor there ha). It’s definitely a great powerhouse product but I like to add either the PTR 1% or 3% on top. They work brilliantly together. The PTR 1% was my introductory retinol and it’s a fabulous product but since I’ve used that version so long I wanted to see if the 3% would kick up pore minimization and some uneven tone. It’s definitely done that so I can for sure recommend the 1% or 3% to try out. You probably could start with the 3% since your skin is already adjusted to the 1% PC but of course it’s always possible you may wind up liking the lower one more.
Celia, thank you so much for the recommendations! I just ordered the PTR 3%, and think I’ll try the Eye Paints. It’s great to hear that the blue worked so well, as blue eyeshadows are often such fails, and vibrant blues are one of my favorite colors in eyeshadow. I think I’ll try the Kajal crayon in blue, too, see if I can get something to stay on my waterline.
Blue (and purples) are my favorite eye shadow colors so whenever I find a great one I cling onto it for dear life haha. I hope you enjoy the new products 🙂 Let me know what you think of them.
And of course. Happy to help with recommendations or anything whenever <3
Haul: Beautylish Lucky Box came it. I got two things I own; RCMA powder and Becca Pearl Pressed Powder. Also Natasha Denona 5 pan palette #10, Jouer Lip Creme in Melon, it Cosmetics Superhero Mascara, a solid soap Brush Cleaner, Wyne Goss 04 brush.
Weekend plans: Working. I’m visiting my friend in Toronto on Monday. We both out of a “real” job at the moment. lol Going to the AGO to seem Monet painting and I’m Fabric shopping.
Do you or have you kept a journal?: I always felt my life is too boring on a daily basis to write something every day that happens. lol I would goo to school, do homework, play games/watch TV/read comic and that was it as a child and teen.
I also have to say, I want to give Mellan a hug even if he might not know why.
Wilson disease (don’t think they call it that in animals) is an odd genetic mutation but hepatitis might have triggered it. 🙁 I hope the last test goes well and he will be on the road to healing soon.
Yeah, it is like Wilson’s disease but in animals they just call it copper storage disease. If I’m interpreting all the literature on it correctly, copper storage disease can lead to chronic active hepatitis, but the doctor believes it is autoimmune related and so I think that means two separate issues… I’m going to clarify (not that it *really* matters in terms of treatment or how we deal with it!) that next time I talk to his doctor, though.
It’s most common in Bedlington terriers, who have been studied/tested enough that has shown a genetic link, but it is unknown in labradors (they come up as a specific breed that can have issues with processing copper, though) if it is related to genetics or not.
Is it good or bad that they are things you already own? I could see the RCMA being a good backup, if you like it, though another highlighter will take forever to get through, lol!
I like the powder but you get tonne of it to go through. lol
Yeah as much as I like Pearl I don’t use it as often as my pale gold ones. 😉
I got Pearl too! And I already own it. I wouldn’t mind a duplicate if it was something I had a hope of actually ever finishing.
Box twins except I got Charlotte Tilbury X Norman Parkinson Filmstar Bronze and Glow instead of the Becca Pearl!
Oooh, what fabric did you get? I’ve started knitting again, and thinking more and more of taking up sewing again, too. I would love to have things that fit me like a glove, if I can learn to tailor things properly!
I’m glad you found out what Mellan has is treatable.
Haul: I picked up the Murad Invisiblur and travel size of the Murad Rapid Age Spot and Pigment Lightening Serum for the awesome gift with purchases that Ulta had. I placed another order to try the Nip + Fab Dragon’s Blood Fix Plumping Serum (not sure how I feel about the smell)
Weekend plans: Eating my weight in sushi for my sister’s birthday tonight
Do you or have you kept a journal?: I recently picked up writing in a journal again. I really like the whole bullet journal trend that’s going on. I kind of did that in middle school when I would decorate my planners.
Have fun eating your weight in sushi 😀
How do you like the Murad line? I’m intensive mode of exploration for skin care products, so am thinking of trying out Murad, I just haven’t decided where to start.
I am thinking the happiest possible thoughts your way, and that of your lovely, lovely Mellan. What a sweet pup. May he be healthy and happy and cozy and safe for a good long while yet to come.
Thank you, Tessa!
Haul: MAC Selena lipstick in Amor Prohibido and MAC Selena eyeshadow in No Me Queda Mas…also got a bunch of Tony Moly face masks
Weekend Plans: car maintenance and hanging out with friends/family
Do you or have you kept a journal?: I tried keeping a journal back in high school but didn’t get very far with that. Nowadays I just like to keep an agenda that I write my plans for the week in and reminders and such, I like to do the whole almost scrapbook thing with agendas so I’ve been keeping my agendas for the past two years as records of my life. And I have a blog for personal thoughts or write-ups.
What Tony Moly face mask is your favorite, Jennifer?
The refreshing orange one is the one I re-purchase a lot!
Haul:
* Sonia Kashuk lipsticks (they were on sale at Target), worth it for $5, not for $10. Very creamy and more like a gloss.
* Marc Jacobs Le Marc in Hot Cocoa (I think) It’s a great product but doesn’t last as long on me as I’d like however the feel of it is so smooth and soft and it’s opaque that I’m keeping it.
* Tarte Lip Stain in Vixen (this formula is better than the creamy lip things. It goes on smooth, easy application and last a long time however reapplying over it is not possible because it gets tacky. THIS DOES NOT COME OFF lol. Oil couldn’t even get this off in one round. I like my stuff to stay but not that hard. It’s not as drying as the others but I’m not a 100 on it.
* Elf translucent powder which made me look like a ghost so I gave it to a friend
* ABH ran out of the color TARA in the lip gloss so I have to go get that one again, it was my absolute fav ever
•Weekend plans: It’s my sister’s bday so heading out for dinner tonight and then the club tomorrow. Gym with my personal trainer tonight. I quit my 2nd job two months ago stayed available for when they needed someone to fill in since it’s a small company so they need me tomorrow. Doing a friends hair on Sunday. Gonna try to write more of my book and get that wrapped up by spring break.
•Do you or have you kept a journal?: I kept journals as a teen and in my twenties. I have them all and two of them from the years 2003-2012 is helping me write my book on sexual experiences and how they shaped (and ruined) me for love in the future. I can’t believe some of the stuff I wrote about, it’s both sad and entertaining. Other than that, I don’t keep a journal today however isn’t blogging like keeping a journal? I blog about everything and sometimes it’s like my journal where I can go back and revisit a subject.
I’m glad Mellan is feeling better!! He’s a real trooper!
Blogging is like a journal – I think if you treat it as something where you talk about your life or feelings, then it can definitely be a way to revisit your thoughts and actions!
Christine, I hope your fur baby feels better soon and that the treatments help! ?
Thank you, Lacey!
Ah, Christine…. Thanks for the beautiful words… I am so sorry to hear that Mellan is chronically ill. I am sure at your place he gets the best treatment possible. Stay strong! Hopefully with the right medication he will be his happy self again soon!
Haul: ha, nothing to haul, people! Week 3 of this new year is down! Ok, except for an organic lip balm of 4,90?. Ah well, one can never have enough lip balm I suppose, and this one has mint and chilli pepper extracts in it! Mmmm.
And: my mirror arrived today! It’s a dressing room mirror with light bulbs around it, that spread a light of 4500 K, which is like daylight! No high end highlighter or Chanel perfume can beat this for feeling glamourous. It’s fantastic!❤️
Weekend: putting on makeup in front of my new mirror! ??
Journal: no… poems yes, some time ago (I was even published). I might start doing that again.
Oh, how exciting that your new mirror arrived! Hope it is everything you imagined!
It is! Although it’s much bigger in my not so big living room then I thought it would be! But hey, no complaints here… very happy. 🙂
That mirror sounds fantastic! I love the glam feeling. 🙂
Even just putting on eye pencil is an act of glamouresness now! Hahahah!
Haul: I’m trying out the new Wet N’ Wild Photo Focus Liquid Foundation and Setting Powder. Also swiped up the Viseart Petit PRO palette (which I have already had a lot of fun with!) as well as an order from Ulta consisting of the Physicians’ Formula Butter Bronzer/Blush (shades Bronzer/Plum Rose) and the IT! Cosmetics Love Beauty Fully Highlight and Blending brush. OMG this is the softest stipple brush I have ever felt in my whole life!!! And that is including my Hakuhodo!
Weekend plans: Finally sit down and do some good makeup! I have been so go-go-go lately and have had no time for a good-ol’-fashioned beat down!
Do you or have you kept a journal?: I just started a new skin regimen and my esthetician wants me to take pictures weekly to track my progress. So there’s that!
Let me know how you like the new WNW foundation, Anime! Petit Pro is lovely 🙂 Very easy to grab & go with that palette.
Haul: Garnier Actively Hydrating Daily Lotion SPF 15. There’s been a packaging change so I saw the older packaging on clearance at Walmart for $5. I wanted to try it anyway, so we’ll see how it is!
Weekend plans: driving up to Delaware with my husband for the weekend for his work. For me, hopefully I’ll be doing lots of doing nothing.
Do you or have you kept a journal? I’ve never been able to remain consistent with it, but when I do it’s very whole hog convoluted story of mass emotions 😛
Safe drive up to Delaware! Enjoy your time 🙂
I scrolled through the comments from the bottom up and didn’t know you had replied to my comment so I was like “omg who else is driving up to Delaware this weekend??” Lol!
Praying for Mellan! It’s so heartbreaking when your baby dog has chronic health issues. I feel so much mommy dog guilt over my dog’s severe, severe environmental allergies.
Honestly though, if you need to start a GoFundMe for Mellan’s treatments, I know snow many of us Temptalians would contribute! We’re pulling for him, too. ❤️
I’m very fortunate to have loyal, supportive readers like yourself that visit the blog regularly that there’s no need to worry about Mellan – he has his own funds set aside for just this sort of thing 🙂 I’m risk-averse, so I am a big saver, LOL!
It’s so hard when you can’t explain to them why/what’s wrong and what you’re going to do about it!
I am sorry to hear of Mellan’s chronic hepatitis diagnosis. He is blessed to have you, as I know you have the heart to provide the best care for him and the means to do so. I am hoping that the final test reveals very little damage and that he will live a long and happy life.
Haul: Fresh Sugar Advanced Therapy lip balm (third purchase), Dermadoctor Kakadu Vitamin C Serum with Ferulic Acid and Vitamin E (second bottle), NYX Glam Aqua eyeliners in Platinum and Azure, and Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara. Let me say this: I have NEVER tried a drugstore mascara that I liked, and I was certain I would use this one once and then throw it in the trash, but this one proved me wrong. This is great for volumizing and lengthening my stubby and sparse 51 year old lashes. Really impressed.
Weekend plans: Making homemade pizza with figs, carmelized onions, and Gorgonzola. Husband also says we WILL go on a date.
Journals: I kept journals most of my young life (into my 30’s) but get my need to write met through my job now. I haven’t journaled in a decade.
Here’s hoping he doesn’t have too much copper accumulated!
So happy to hear that the Lash Sensational is doing your lashes good!!
Lash Sensational is my fav drugstore mascara! So glad you like it. How are the NYX liners?
Michelle, I have bought four or five NYX liners now and haven’t opened them yet. I read the reviews and there are enough people talking about them not lasting the day that I am skeptical about their staying power. I would rather get the Lit Cosmetics glitters but they are so freaking expensive for something I only use a few times a year. Wish they had a variety sampler pack.
Thanks Tammy. I don’t need liners enough to want to chance it.
Michelle, do NOT buy NYX liners: awful!
Yikes – wow – thank you!!!!!!!!!
That pizza sounds delicious. I think I might come to your place for dinner!
I love figs in savory foods. My favorite omelette has dried figs in it!
I love that lip balm, too! It’s one of several I keep in rotation through the winter…
Haul: I feel like I did a lot of shopping this week :/ I bought the YSL Chinese New Year Palette, reluctantly because you can get the blush itself anytime; I just really liked the packaging and need all the luck I can get. I bought some new skincare stuff from Arcone and Amore Pacific, and a new Nest candle (Ocean Mist & Sea Salt).
Weekend plans: We have long weekend due to the inauguration. I plan to stay out of sight for the most part which means laundry, blogging, and maybe visit with friends.
Do you have a journal?: I had one when I was a young, blossoming teenager. My father read it and I said I would never keep another one ever again. I broke that promise to myself this winter and bought one to write down my thoughts and goals. It really helps me put stuff out there in the world and be figure out exactly what I want to say or do.
I hope you enjoy your weekend – sounds like it’ll be nice and low-key! 🙂
Indya, my parents took and read my journal, too, when I was a young teenager, and it was horrible. I really empathize with what you went through!
Haul: Notoriously Morbid January Vanishing Cabinet.
Weekend Plans: bathroom work and yard work.
Do you/have you kept a journal: yep, both online and a paper journal.
How long have you been keeping journals, Alice?
Physical journals, about 25 years. Online journals, 15 years. I even had a Casio Magic Diary when I was a teenager 🙂
Oh Mellan, at least we now know, but you have the best Mama in the world to take care of you ! Feel better, my sweet boy, we love you
*Haul – Kiko High Pigment Wet/Dry Shadows in 56 (Pearly Light Blue), 30 (Matte Pine Green), and 103 (Matte Deep Violet) -haven’t tested on my eyes yet, but swatches look promising .
*Weekend –last weekend, I put together my new makeup storage system, consisting of 2 black bookcases, 40 gray/white Container Store drawers, and various acrylic organizers for brushes/eyeliners. I now have an entire shelf for all my shadow palettes. OMG, it’s awesome, I can’t stop staring at it! Everything is sorted by product type and color, no more clutter. And I caught some great sales/deals, so it was pretty reasonably priced. Not all the drawers are used yet, but when I fill the last one, I will check myself into makeup junkie rehab, hahahahaha Will spend this weekend testing and putting away new makeup, and doing some purging. We also got some gift cards, so will take the toddler to her first Benihana restaurant, think she will enjoy the show 🙂
*Journal – haven’t kept one since I was a teen, and my siblings kept stealing it to read it!
I’ll be curious how the Kiko eyeshadows last on your lids, Katherine, and whether they eat the Kiko shadows up, lol!
I’d love to see photos of your new setup if you ever share 😉
Yes, will let you know once I test the Kiko shadows! Christine, what’s the best way to share photos of my new makeup storage system with you or any interested readers? Is there a way to post the photos on Temptalia? Or should I do it thru facebook or instagram?
We don’t have anything on Temptalia yet, but you can share links to Instagram or Facebook. You can also use imgur – http://imgur.com/
Christine,
Thank you so much for all you do!! Your reviews really help me. I purchased 24 Makeup Geek eyeshadows during their after Christmas sale and I just purchased a hot pink Z Palette to put them in. Do you know when you will review the KVD Pastel Goth palette? I am waiting on pins and needles to see if it is worth purchasing. I am so happy to hear that Mellan’s illness was determined to be something that is treatable. I am a huge animal lover and it is sad and stressful when one of our babies (pets) is sick.
I reviewed Pastel Goth today! 🙂
Thanks. I saw it. I am happy to hear that it is good.
Haul: Guerlain’s new La Petite Robe Noire lip & cheek tint, Sephora’s new honey lip scrub.
Weekend plans: it’s supposed to be very rainy here throughout the weekend, so not much! Dinner and boardgames with friends, and hopefully the rain will stop long enough that we can go for a run.
Journal: I’ve never kept one, same as you Christine, when I tried I wasn’t able to keep it up.
So sorry to hear about Mellan’s health issues, and my cat Ernesto and I are sending all my love for his recovery! How does the disease affect him? And do we know what causes it? It’s great that lifestyle changes can help and that treatments can keep it under control, even if it’s not completely curable.
Let me know how the new honey scrub is! Though I need another lip scrub like a whole in the head 😉
It seems that some dogs (labrador retrievers, which Mellan is, have a higher incidence, though Bedlington terriers are the “poster dog” of copper storage disease) aren’t able to process copper, so instead of it getting excreted through bile, it accumulates in the liver and eventually causes damage. There’s a good drug on the market that makes it so the accumulated copper gets urinated out instead, which can take four to six months to work out all the accumulated copper, and then after that it’s keeping the dog on a copper-restricted diet so that you’re more “maintaining” and just flushing out day-to-day copper vs. years’ worth. It appears that the way the amount of copper was regulated/restricted is different now than it was maybe a decade or so ago, as dogs get their copper from food and water. I’ve been feeding him Orijen Six Fish for six or seven years, which has 22 mg/kg of copper (based on what I’m actually feeding, I believe that worked out to be around 7.5 mg/kg per day). I was working on a spreadsheet of lower copper dry dog foods over the last day or so, and 15-30 mg/kg is not uncommon; the prescription dry dog food for a dog with liver disease has 4.5 mg/kg of copper. (My vet did not think using the RX diet was necessary yet and felt a lower copper commercial food would offer better balance at this time.)
The chronic active hepatitis is supposed to be autoimmune hepatitis, which I understand less about. The copper storage disease ultimately ends up being where they need help processing and removing copper, which is why there’s no cure, just treatment, but it seems very doable. The vet said that the autoimmune hepatitis is the “wild card” and it can cause bumps in the road.
If you like science, this is the source I’ve been using mostly: http://www.merckvetmanual.com/digestive-system/hepatic-disease-in-small-animals/canine-chronic-hepatitis
Haul: Some drugstore makeup – a couple of cheapie lipsticks from Big Lots (LA Colors Pout Matte Lipgloss, which has a terrible formula and an applicator that is damn near impossible to work with…But then, they were only $1 each), Milani Powder Foundation (which actually kind of, sort of works for me even though I’m in my late 30s and have dry skin), and an elf eye brush.
Weekend plans: get my house clean and find something fun to do with the kids
Journaling: I have kept one, and now have an informal network of Color Notes on my phone that serve a similar purpose.
Hope you have a great time with the kids, Stephanie! 🙂
Haul: Nothing this week. I have been doing really well with my low buy but I will be getting some of the Dior powders and a few more of the Coloured Raine single eye shadows.
Weekend Plans: Well, I went to town this week and when I returned an ice dam had caused a huge water leak streaming down the windows in my dining room. My wood floor is now buckled, all the sheet rock will need to be replaced and we had to rip down the gutters and part of the facing. So, while there really isn’t anything more that I can do given it is the dead of winter here in Montana, I plan on spending most of the weekend drowning my sorrows, LOL.
Journal: I think it is a great idea and I always think that I am going to start but it never happens or if it did then it would be a couple of entries and then nothing so really doesn’t work for me. I do scrapbook and really enjoy that process and while it doesn’t capture the same things it does give me an artistic outlet and I am the family historian so that is an opportunity to capture our history.
Mellan is such a sweet boy and my prayers are with him and you as you face dealing with his chronic illness. With treatment I am sure that he can live a long and happy life and he will have all the love and support he will need from you. As his treatment progresses it is always a possibility that a cure will be found. It is something that I have held onto as I have gone forward with my cancer history. We never know when a cure or even just a better treatment will be found.
Oh, my goodness, Deborah, that is terrible – I am so sorry about your home! How frustrating it will be to have to be to replace everything 🙁 Hope you can get everything fixed up and livable soon!
Yikes!! Sorry to hear about the damage to your house. I also own a home, and those repair bills can be killer. Hope you can get everything fixed soon
Thank you, Katherine. It is a real mess but life happens and you just have to go with it. I am looking forward to this winter being over! We have had almost 2 months of below freezing weather. Even for Montana, that is a long time!!
Relieved to hear that Mellan doesn’t have liver cancer or cirrhosis. But this is still a significant disease, although not necessarily life limiting. I myself have NAFL (Non Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease) at a moderate level. So yes, diet and supplements, as well as frequent monitoring are part and parcel of having liver disease for us and our best friends, too. Still very sad that it wasn’t something milder or just a short bout of inflammation that poor Mellan got.
Haul: Nothing, zilch, nada!
Weekend plans: Since I really love how that Matrix Biolage Conditioning Cleanser and the Shea Moisture leave-in made my hair feel , I will probably do so twice weekly now. If my hair can handle it. So hair, nails are already done, make a big casserole dish of GF mac & cheese and brownies, I suppose. I would love to get out today, but the weather is matching my very somber mood today: dark and dreary.
Do you or have you kept a journal or diary: I did so sporadically during my 30’s and early 40’s. But nothing in many years. I probably should though, as it is a great stress outlet.
The upside is definitely “not cancer” and we’re definitely not in cirrhosis, but as you said, it is still significant. I’m so glad to hear that diet and supplements have helped you deal with NAFL! Even though people and dogs are different, it is encouraging to hear 🙂
What’s your recipe for mac and cheese, nancy?
My daughter gave me this recipe around 4 or 5 years ago, but I actually have to locate it before I cook it on Sunday. It is somewhere in my kitchen, I know. But hers is different only in that she uses both chedder cheese AND Velveeta in the mix, plus, of course all the usual stuff: butter, milk, mustard and salt & pepper. And different because it uses gluten free elbows.
So glad you know now what you are dealing with for Mellan. Sending good wishes.
Haul: Only a backup of my favorite blush L Geller baked in Pink Grapefruit. It was the compromise as I need to keep to minimal purchases this month and yet don’t want to feel deprived.
Weekend: Women’s March on Washington. Bus leaves 3:00am, and I’m already all set with all I need including having decided what makeup I’ll wear for such a long day.
Journal: I’ve done off/on all my life, and I’ve always found it healthy for how it makes me stop and think, but it’s tough to keep up. Also, it has benefits for descendants — for instance, recently I read parts of my grandmother’s journal, and it was a remarkable experience, to see how she experienced life. But to do it regularly takes more discipline than I have.
Me too, AB! I will feel “better” once we get the final result back and have a full treatment plan.
Thank you for attending the Women’s March on Washington! Stay safe, stay strong 🙂
I’m so sorry to hear about Mellan’s liver problems, but I am happy they are treatable. I’m praying his liver damage is minimal. Sending lots of love!
Haul: Kat von D Pastel Goth and Alchemist palettes, MUFE Artist Palette Vol. 3 Florals, and NARS Powder Foundation in Siberia (great match!!!). I’m expecting my Notoriously Morbid Vanishing Cabinet to show up today or tomorrow.
Weekend plans: Just the usual. If my migraine stays tolerable, I might do something with a friend.
Do you or have you kept a journal?: Not really, unless you count my kids baby books.
YAY for great foundation matches 😀
Hope your migraine goes away soon!
Those are great palettes, now you are ready for spring! My Vanishing Cabinet was waiting for me when I got home from work and I immediately put everything all over my face! Love the blue-ish eye pigment with the sparkling beige popped right into the center of my eye. I love the highlighters, and this one is gorgeous! I am excited to use the lip topper on a blue lipstick–it was fun on my pinky purple lips last night, but definitely want to try it with a blue.
That’s good news about Mellan so far! At least it’s a treatable condition.
Haul: Used my Sephora gift card and ordered Viseart Warm neutral palette and KVD Pastel Goth palette. Was so happy that MAC sent the Taraji Glow blush after the mixup. It’s a lot darker than I remembered but I can sheer down. Very nice!
Weekend plans: Organizing my bedroom. Dinner out ,may catch the Hidden Figures movie. We are still recuperating from the virus we got traveling out the holidays. Apparently it lingers for a long time.
Do you or have you kept a journal? : I love the idea but suck with the follow through. I always start one up and then fail to keep it up to date. Plus I have issues of paranoia , lol. Afraid someone will find it and read all my personal thoughts.
Let me know how the Pastel Goth palette works for you, Denise!
Hope you feel better soon!
I will. Thanks Christine.
Haul: Had a meeting in the city this morning, right across the street from Sephora. You know where this is going…
Caved and got the Viseart Minx palette. That was just a matter of time. So weak.
On my blush quest, and I hope this is it. Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush in Diffused Heat. I have to say I have never been much an Hourglass fan girl, but this did look nice on. We’ll see.
MJ Highliner Gel Eye Crayon in (Ro)Coco. Had to exchange the brown I bought last week. The SA in Sephora who got it out of the under stock for me must have grabbed the wrong one. It was the brown with the glitter. That had to go back since it was irritating.
MAC Blush in Taupe. FINALLY, I figured out this is all I need for contouring (thanks to vlogger Puffin’s Wife). It gives just enough structure. One product, done. It’s what I have been looking for for eons.
Chella Eyebrow Defining Gel I got in the Jan Birchbox. I like it quite a bit — a lot more than ABH.
Weekend There’s an big event in the city tomorrow I’ll be attending with my son’s GF and her mom.
Sunday is my 16th year doing the USA Master’s Swimming Hour Swim Challenge — and I’ll swim it with most of the same people going back all those years! It’s a great challenge I start training for before Xmas, and we’ll see how fast I can go tomorrow!
Journaling Never have.
Healing hugs to that sweet boy, Mellan.
Here’s hoping the Hourglass blush lives up to expectations! 🙂 MAC Taupe is a great contouring shade!!
Good luck on your swim challenge!
The ABH brow gel doesn’t work for me, maybe I will check out the Chella. Viseart Minx❤️
I love Puffin’s Wife! Just started watching her channel about a month ago – she’s very informative and i like her teaching style.
Haul: Mostly replacements! COSRx Snail Mucin, Beauty People Miss 100 Super Waterproof Gel Eyeliner in Glimmering Burgundy, Biore UV Milk, Heroine Make Long + Curl Super Waterproof Mascara.
Weekend plans: Family and pineapple tart-baking at my grandma’s.
Do you or have you kept a journal?: I did when I was young but now have a bullet journal that I use for daily work and ideas.
Have a lovely time at your Grandma’s, Kimberly! That sounds like fun 🙂
Love Cosrx snail mucin. so soothing. Anytime my face feels irritated or inflamed, it’s the first thing I think of. Like for this am! Cosrx does a fine job with keeping a short, targeted ingredients list. You know what a product does, and it usually performs well. Comparatively inexpensive and effective. I have been lobbying Ulta to get Cosrx, so far to no avail. I would love to be able to get Cosrx from a b&m, but I order Paula, so what’s the diff? Also, the snail 95 seems to be the only occlusive style product in the world (thus far) that doesn’t clog the pores and lead to incipient problems. What a winner!
So glad to hear there are treatment options. I wish Mellan a happy and healthy long life. You must be wiped from all the worry. Sending you hugs.
Thank you, Kathleen! <3
Haul:
From Paulas choice: I ordered their Extra care Non greasy SPF50 Sunblock, (It’s my favourite for conventions! Because it really is NOT greasy!!) and I got a spf spray! I’m going to try that as a setting sprey and throughout the day to keep my spf up!!
From Colourpop: Bossy Lippie pencil, Come and get it pressed shadow (The pink gold duochrome!) High strung (Shimmery rose gold according to their site!) Take it slow (shimmery champagne) Bel Air (Matte light brown) Perilune highlighter (Green highlight! I have Honeymoon, their blue highlight and I actually wear it A LOT!! I love it!) I finally got the hello kitty School is Fun highlighter! I’m so excited! I also got Bae super shock shadow, and Glitterati super shock shadow!!
From Coastal Scents: I got three hot pots, that I’m going to put into my cheek Z pallet, I ordered Lemon Chiffon (It’s supposed to be a yellowy white shimmer! my FAVE) Coral Blossom which is a shimmery coral, and then Coral Rose which is more pink than coral!! I’m taking a trip to a different province in september, so I’m planning my makeup now 😛
From Elf: Lip Exfoliator, Makeup Mist and fix, Mattifying cream foundation, Smudge pot cream shadow in brownie points, Illuminating pallet, Shimmering Facial whip, a highlighting brush, one of their clay 5 pan shadow pallets, a black liquid liner, a eye lid primer, Moisturizing foundation stick, a blush/bronzer duo, and a mascara! (I ordered this during their big sale, back in december. But it JUST shipped MONDAY. so that’s why I’m listing it here!!)
I MIGHT pick up the Milani Two in One Concealer/Foundation tomorrow. Because the ONE AND ONLY place we can GET milani here in Ontario (At rexal!! A pharmacy chain here!) it’s on sale 20% off with 100 bonus air miles too!!
Weekend plans: Today marks one week since my Tumor was removed!!! I saw my surgeon yesterday, and he was shocked at how well i’m healing!! Half of my bottom lip, and all of my chin is now paralyzed. But I can live with that, if it means I don’t have to live with a tumor anymore!! Oh!! Also, I’ll be doing a interview for the Globe and Mail on Monday! So this weekend i’ll be preparing for that with my boss!!
Have I/Do I journal: When I was younger, and my mental health was really bad. I used to journal EVERY night!! Now I just have a personal blog (as well as my beauty blog!) and I write journal entries there about my day, and my mental health and stuff!!! So I guess I do?
Your positivity and strength of spirit are inspiring, Shannon 🙂 Sending you healing vibes!!
Good luck on your interview!
Oh my goodness, Christine!!! Thank you SO much!!!
I appreciate you sending me healing vibes, I’m sending them right back to you and your family for you fur baby!!
Fingers crossed my interview goes well and I don’t goof up my words LOL! <3
So glad the healing is going well, Shannon!
Glitterati is one of those shades I swipe on my eyelids, throw on some red lipstick and I’m done. It’s a Saturday thing for me, when I’m not wearing make up per se but just want a little something. My granddaughter thinks it’s a pretty look on me.
Thank You so much Tammy!!! <3
I'm so excited to get Glitterati!! I'v been eyeing it since it was first introduced last year (roughly!!) !!
Colourpop takes about 14 business days to get to me. So the count down is on LOL. I can't wait!!
Great to hear you are recovering so quickly Shannon!! I’m sure the all-you-can-eat-jello diet is no fun
Thank you so much Katherine!!!
Let me tell you, eating nothing but yogurt, and jello for a week is NOT as fun as it sounds!!! LOL.
Sending so many hugs to Mellan (his eyes are so soulful!) and you! It is just so tough when our pets are ill. As we say in New Zealand, Kia kaha, stay strong!
Haul UD 24/7 waterline eye pencil in walk of shame. Now that I’m nearing 50 my waterline is getting redder so this is now essential. Also finally we have UD in New Zealand – woohoo! Their eyeliners are the only ones that stay on me.
What I’d like to haul – the new Hourglass lip pencils, but no-one at Mecca Cosmetica (our eqivilent to Sephora) has even heard of them (they obviously don’t read your blog). Are they a Sephora exclusive?
Thanks, Katie!
Nope, they’re not a Sephora exclusive here in the U.S. – they are at other retailers already so hopefully Mecca gets them soon!
Thank you for that information! I have hope now!
Katie, I regularly found sales assistants at Mecca (in Australia) who didn’t know half of what I knew about their own products! Also I would expect NZ to get the Hourglass Lip Liners late, we always seem to get things delayed (if we get them at all).
I am so relieved that Mellan’s condition isn’t dire. I have been thinking of you all and hoping for good results.I am glad that there is a treatment and I hope that you all caught it early. I have honestly never heard of a dog having hepatitis. Is there a theory of how he got it or is this just more common than I realize?
I’d say it’s more common than you realize (I did not know it either) but not that common. The doctor said he had autoimmune chronic active hepatitis, as well as copper storage disease, but in some dogs, copper storage disease can cause it. From what I’ve been reading, it is often unknown what causes it, though, in dogs.
I had never heard of copper storage disease, but it appears labradors are predisposed to it! All I knew about was hip dysplasia!
Christine, I hope the results of the pending test shows that not very much copper has accumulated yet, and that Mellan continues to feel well for a long time to come. I did not even know about this disease before!
I have to take Marya (dwarf hamster) to the vet on Monday. After she got her teeth stuck in the bars of her cage, she stopped eating her hamster food and lost a huge amount of weight (from 56 grams down to 35 grams). So I’ve been feeding her soft foods; she especially will eat pasta with any kind of cheese sauce, will also eat some yogurt, and cheddar and cream cheeses. She’ll eat a tiny amount of pecan, but doesn’t even bother trying to eat crackers; the misadventure with her teeth seems to keep her from eating hard foods. Well, she’s re-gained some weight, up to 43 grams, but without anything to grind them down, her front teeth have grown so long that they’ve curved back in on themselves. So hopefully the vet can trim them without having to anesthetize her!
Haul:
10% off Sephora coupon: Kat Von D Alchemist Holographic Palette and Pastel Goth Eyeshadow Palette; Laura Mercier Editorial Eye Palette Intense Clays; Make Up For Ever Star Lit Powders in 02 Frozen Gold, 13 Ivory, 15 Golden Pink, 19 Ultramarine, 27 Gunmetal, and 28 Anthracite Black (skipped 05 Frozen Purple because of having dupes); MUFE Artist Acrylip in 401 Raspberry Red; Burberry Liquid Lip Velvet in Brilliant Violet and Bright Plum; Tom Ford Lips & Boys in Mitchell; and IGK Laid-Back DeFrizz and Anti-Static Spray.
local Sephora visit yielded new NARS products: eyeshadow duo Thessalonique; Velvet Shadow Stick in Usbek; lip gloss in Asphalt Jungle; and Soft Matte concealer in Vanilla.
and five more Coloured Raine eyeshadows arrived 🙂
I’m still working my way through all these fun new products, but so far I’m mostly really pleased. I did one eyeshadow look with Dope and Dagger from the pastel palette, along with some shades from the Interstellar palette, and topped with the purple from the Holographic palette, and it was really beautiful. For a NARS take on purple eyeshadow I put Usbek on my lids, buffed it a little bit, and then put the lighter shade from the duo on my inner lid, the darker shade on my outer lid and up into the crease and along my lower lash line, using Andromeda from the Narcissist Dual-Intensity palette on my browbone and in the inner corner. This was also gorgeous. Then I did a purple look with Coloured Raine Chameleon and Fetish, using two Kjaer Weis shades for browbone and blending out from crease to hood. Much more subtle than the green, blue, and silver looks I’ve done with Coloured Raine shadows, but very nice.
Both Burberry lip velvets are pulling much more red on me than they did on you, Christine. The colors are nice, just not quite what I expected, so I’m a little unsure about them. Very comfortable and long-lasting, though! And not difficult to apply considering that long wands and I aren’t the best combination, and these are vivid colors.
I’m really liking Asphalt Jungle, even though I’m not usually much of a gloss person.
And I love the IGK spray. I sprayed it on day two hair, and, in addition to reducing static and frizz, it really brought out the little bit of natural wave that I have, and in the best possible way, with my hair staying smooth and soft, not the least bit sticky or stiff. Amazing! This is the first product that’s really done that for me, and it’s not even one of the advertised benefits of it!
And I’m saving the best (the Star Lit Powders) for last, lol.
Weekend plans: Tomorrow is my son’s birthday 🙂 I’m making him a Philadelphia Jewish Apple Cake, which is a bit of a project, and I ordered two seasons’ worth of Mythbusters episodes, so I expect we’ll be watching some of them after eating dinner at home — he wants to cook himself a steak (I don’t eat meat), and we’ll have our special homemade macaroni and cheese with it, and I’ll cook him up a mess of collard greens (it’s what he wants!). It’s a good thing I gave him the computer game he wanted early, so he’s had a couple of days to work the initial excitement of it out of his system, or I’m sure he’d be preoccupied with it all evening, lol.
Do you or have you kept a journal? Not since my parents took and read mine when I was fourteen, and my drunk and delusional father misinterpreted stuff I’d written… haven’t thought about that in years, but I’m sure that’s why my efforts to journal never really get off the ground… now that I think about it… thank you for asking this question, I may be having an epiphany here about why writing gets difficult for me…
Happy birthday to your son, Fran! How exciting 🙂
Hopefully, you’ll get better news/some help for Marya on Monday. Poor girl! I forget that hamsters’ teeth just keep growing! I am always surprised and impressed by what vets and techs are able to get done without sedating animals, so fingers crossed for Marya!
I can imagine having no desire to write thoughts down (especially such private, personal ones!) when the fear of someone reading it really comes true 🙁
Thanks, Christine! The apple cake came out really yummy, and we had a nice little celebration 🙂
Our vet doesn’t have experience trimming the tiny Dwarf hamsters’ teeth, so she referred us to another animal hospital, where Marya has an appointment tomorrow with a vet who did an additional two years’ training in veterinary dentistry beyond basic veterinary training, and the hospital as a whole has more of a specialty in care of ‘exotic’ pets (hamsters and guinea pigs are considered ‘exotic pets’, which seems strange to me). Naturally I still worry… I don’t want her to be frightened by undergoing the procedure, but sedating a creature who weighs and ounce and a half is somewhat risky, so I’m not happy about that idea, either. But her teeth have grown so long that they’re curling back on themselves, we can’t just let this go, they’re not going to stop growing. Hopefully, she’ll get them trimmed and start eating hard foods again so that they go back to getting ground down naturally.
Oh, keeping my fingers crossed for Marya that the next vet can help her with her teeth 🙂
Christine, thank you — the visit to the second vet went really well today. The vet was great, Marya cooperated while he clipped her teeth, the charge was reasonable (a lot of vets charge more for hamsters and guinea pigs than they do for dogs or cats because they’re “exotics”, so that was a relief), and, if it turns out that her teeth have to be trimmed every few weeks for the rest of her life, he’s willing to try to teach us how to do it ourselves 🙂
Hopefully she’ll start eating hard foods again now, but it’s possible that her jaw bone was damaged when she wedged her teeth into the bars of her cage (we immediately got her a new, bar-free cage, too, of course!), and that I’ll be pulverizing her hamster food and trimming her teeth for the rest of her life. That’s very little trouble, though, we’re glad she didn’t get hurt worse; she seems perfectly healthy otherwise.
Fran, I didn’t think I had any make up on my wish list until I saw your haul. What a great haul! I want to try your NARS and Kat Von D looks, but that would mean buying more make up. Sigh.
Thank you, Tammy! I really am having a ton of fun with my new products. Products like the KVD Alchemist palette, the MUFE Star Lit Powders, and the Anastasia Moon Child palette really are tons of fun if you like to transform eyeshadow looks to make them lighter, shinier, or more sparkly. I think it’s worth having at least one product like this. More makeup is fun, right? 😉
Fran, I ordered Thessalonique minutes after I read your post! Do you think Usbek is worth picking up as well? I saw the blue eyeshadow crayon in the same collection online at NARS and I’m very tempted. What do you think of Asphalt Jungle?
Well, layering Usbek under Thessalonique totally changed the way Thessalonique looked, made it much darker and more vibrant. I really like it that way, but it depends on what you want. I didn’t have any creasing, but I’m sure I used a primer, probably Laura Mercier Eye Basics in Flax. I haven’t tried any of the other NARS shadow sticks, because they don’t usually get good reviews and most shadow sticks crease on me (although they perform better as a base for powder eyeshadows). I’m also pleased with Asphalt Jungle, although it lets my own lip color influence it more than I anticipated and is not as glittery/shimmery on me as I thought it would be, I still like it (and I’m not much of a gloss person, I just thought the color was interesting and unusual).
I am so glad to hear that Mellan’s condition is treatable. You are great dog mama!
Haul: I took advantage of the 5x points on DevaCurl jumbos at Ulta and got some new cleansing conditioner for my curly days. I also picked up the Essence highlighter which I heard was being discontinued. I might also be ordering the Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk lipstick tonight, if I can’t resist temptation…
Weekend plans: Grading all morning tomorrow, and then no plans! Maybe I’ll go to a movie. On Sunday I’ll be traveling a few hours to my sister’s house for my nephew’s 1st birthday. 🙂
Do you or have you kept a journal: I have tried many times to keep a journal, and I would like to, but I always seem to give up on it after a few weeks. I have many beautiful journals with about five pages filled.
I can’t commit to jumbos! It takes so long to finish shampoo/conditioner, lol! So you must REALLY love the DevaCurl formula 😉
Have fun at your nephew’s first birthday! What did you get him?
Actually, I bought a jumbo cleansing conditioner I hadn’t even tried before! I had tried a “richer” formula that was a little bit too heavier, so I took the plunge and bought the less moisturizing one, in jumbo size! I tried it yesterday and thankfully it seems to work well for me.
I got my nephew this basketball hoop/soccer goal toy that lights up, cheers, and counts points whenever you “score.” He’s just starting to walk though, so it’s a toy he’ll have to grow into a bit. His dad loves basketball and mom loves soccer so I thought it was perfect.
Thank goodness you have had a diagnosis for Mellan that means he can be treated and monitored. I hope the supplements work and he will be feeling his old doggy self soon.
Haul: Clarins skincare products (it was a 75% off sale), plus Clarins Joli Rouge lipsticks in back ups of Spicy Cinnamon, Red Terra and a new Fig Brown.
Weekend Plans: We have a hard rubbish day in our street, which means you can put out all your old junk – so we are cleaning out the house. Our local council has two of these per year and you can nominate which day. We will need to have another one sometime in May. At least the weather will be reasonable and not too hot.
Journal: Nope.
Me too, I really hope he responds well to all of his upcoming treatments.
You must really love the Clarins Joli Rouge formula!
I’m so sorry Mellan has been ill but I am so happy to read there is something that can be done to help him. I have been thinking about him and you since you first posted about it.
He’s such a beautiful dog, and pictures of him always brighten my day when you post them. His personality comes through in the pictures. Next time I visit my area SPCA shelter I will have to donate in his honor.
Best wishes and prayers to y’all!
Thank you so much, Kelly! 🙂
Haul: My Origins stuff (Leg Lifts & Peace of Mind for pain stuff) finally came in as the UPS trucks have started showing up again after all of Portland freaked out over a half an inch of snow. My Sephora Play box showed up in the mail today as well. Other than that not much aside from a huge tea order from Palais des Thés as I had a 25% off code.
Weekend plans: I’m weirdly PMSing like crazy so probably eat junk food and cry at Pixar movies? Also delve into the Obama foundation at Obama.org and watch for stuff about the Women’s March (in Washington and elsewhere).
Also for fellow disabled folks that want to participate but don’t have the mobility or energy, there is the Disability Women’s March that’s happening online here: https://disabilitymarch.com/ and an article about it here: http://mashable.com/2017/01/18/disability-march-womens-march-on-washington/#bmnt7LvS.iqW
Do you or have you kept a journal?: I have a Q&A a Day one, but I can’t really keep consistent stuff in long form. If I need to write the equivalent of a journal entry, I have one on my laptop but it’s sporadic.
LOL! I thought Portland got more snow than that every year. I remember one year we visited relatives, and we saw snow (big deal to kids who lived in California!), but it was just you know, half an inch 😉
Thank you for sharing the info on the Disability Women’s March!
I grew up in the Bay Area, but then I moved up to Vancouver (Canada, not Washington…) for university so I saw both sides of the snow thing. Vancouver has it’s act together. Snow plows are everywhere, they salt and gravel the roads, they have snow days not just for schools but for whole cities, etc. The issue with Portland is that it acts like it’s never had snow before. They have minimal snow plows (only the federal highways get plowed which makes me think they aren’t even state-owned plows), they don’t do any snow prep in terms of roads, and they expect business as usual when the roads are impassable. Hopefully Kate Brown will do something, or with climate change as things get more extreme they’ll eventually have to.
Sorry to hear about Mellan’s diagnosis, but glad it is treatable at least.
You are a great “mommy” to him, and you have a great support system that will help.you through this.
Enjoy and cherish your time with him, and take time to smell the roses.
If you have to take some time off to do “whatever”, do it! We readers will understand you taking time for yourself or your loved ones.
Thank you, Carmen! I’m very much trying to make sure I spend extra time with him 🙂
Haul: Just the Dior Air Luminizer in 002 which is all I had hoped for and more ?! I ordered it from the Dior website as it was sold out everywhere else and it came in a gorgeous thick white box embossed with the Dior logo.
Plans for weekend: To finally FINISH sorting the stuff from the old flat. I lived there for 18 years and I have thrown out 10 bags of clothes (to go to charity)! Before makeup was a hobby, I was into clothes. But I also have put on weight since I had a baby so there was a range of sizes. No more clothes that are too small or out of fashion! I found it much more difficult to let go of my makeup and beauty products so I haven’t thrown any of it out yet beyond what I normally throw out. Marie Kondo says you should leave the items you love most, to sort through, last of all anyway. It was kind of cathartic saying bye to clothes that I have loved wearing but are too small or out of fashion. I literally kissed the ones I loved most and said ‘thank you’!
Do you or have you kept a journal? I did start one when I was young, about 9, but I felt silly when I read what I’d written so I stopped. I was comparing myself to Anne Frank, I was a bit of a perfectionist then so I was easily discouraged. I express myself these days through commenting on Facebook or under blog posts like this.
Sorry to hear that Mellan has a serious long term condition affecting his health but glad that it’s treatable. It is hard when your well-loved pet is ill. I hope that he improves soon now he’s being treated xx
YAY! I love it when products live up to expectations! 🙂
Kudos to you for being able to sort through items that were well-loved at different periods in your life and being able to say not just goodbye but thank you!

Weekend plans: Today’s my birthday! The big 4-0! 🙂 My brother and sister-in-law came to visit, so that makes a pretty great birthday present! Hang out with them some more tomorrow and then dinner with my in-law family on Sunday. Plus, I took two days off work this week and three days off next week!
Do you or have you kept a journal?: No, I only really kept one the two times I studied abroad.
Prayers for the Mellan fellow. You are keeping on top of this with all the right research and the best experts. The intertwining of the two conditions is somewhat confusing, but keeping to low copper and leaching the existing copper sound as if they will work. As to bedlingtons, there is such a small, limited gene pool for breeding, so it is not so surprising that an autoimmune issue pops up in their lines. But labs? Really? Mellan is the best part of Friday, and we all ache at the idea of chronic illness in the fur family.
Haul: think semi-impulse buy of snow tires kept me off the haul list for another while… wishlist building…but I really will pare the spending. Journal: only when required to do so, when studying in Germany in the 70s. Actually, I am beset with people sharing issues, problems, emotions. I encourage those persons to journal, and also to do cost/benefit analyses, both financial and affective. Personally, I find that the lower you are on the self-actualization scale (Maslow) the LESS analysis you need, because subsistence issues become more paramount.
Haul: Nars Audacious lipsticks in Greta and Vivien, Kat Von D Pastel Goth Palette, Kat Von D Alchemy Palette, Tarte Maneater Palette, Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick (Plath), and two Nyx.lipliners. Weekend plans: I worked last night & I’m off Saturday and Sunday. Getting my hair cut and colored in a little while and then going to Macy’s to look at makeup. Tonight i’m going out to dinner with my parents, and my three siblings & their spouses. Tomorrow I’m going to visit my son. Do you or have you kept a journal: I have attempted it before but never last more than a day!
I went to every one of my local Face Value stores and went yellow tag crazy, so I made out like a mad woman. Too much to list, but I am one happy bargain shopper.
Right now I am trying to get over a cold, so rest and relaxation before I have to go to work on Sunday.
I keep a journal of sorts. It is more of a beauty and health journal.
Smoochies to Mellan. I am happy to hear that his condition is treatable. With a dedicated fur baby mom like you he will be in good hand.
Glad/sad to hear about Mellan! He couldn’t have better owners, so many animals would have gone much longer without that being picked up. Wishing you all the best.
