Chanel: 2011 Paris-Byzance Metiers d’Art Show Beauty
“The theme of the collection, Paris-Byzance is a great inspiration on it’s own. The links and associations with Chanel are rich and plenty. Karl gave Sam (McKnight) and me a sketch giving us a rough idea of the direction he wanted for the look, from then the tone was set. Karl also showed us the world-famous mosaic portrait of Theodora, the Empress of the Byzantine Empire Mosaic from the Saint-Vital de Ravenne Basilica, which very naturally became the inspiration for the show’s makeup. The portrait gave me a focus point : the red eye shadow/liner that she wears on the arch of her eyebrows. This look is all about light and rich textures. The choreography between gold, bronze, black and red can be easily personalized according to the desires of each woman.” – Peter Philips, Global Creative Director of CHANEL Makeup

That looks look amazing:)
Seriously, those models would look MUCH better with a little bit more weight on…
how could you even tell what they weigh? you can only see their faces in this post.
WTH was that?? Both models look fabulous in these pics, even though we can only see their faces they look healthy. And please explain how did you see they should gain weight?
I think she means their faces and necks are very thin – suggesting that their bodies are probably super thin too.
i agree, they both look gorgeous. Just because they’re models doesn’t necessarily mean they’re underweight.
2nd, they look a healthy and normal weight. I dont know what that poster is talking about
I never said they ain’t beautiful. I just meant their thins look SO thin, I can seriously imagine they are more sticks than human. And there are surely enough models out there who should gain weight.
btw… their hair looks great, but I always fear it to fall down! lol
So beautiful omg
That is SO beautiful! I love when you share these backstage photos!
i love the makeup ,, the red line could be deleted but i geuss he did it to make it uniqe. vary talented.
Amazing look!
These girls are so beautiful, what I wouldn’t give to have a neck as long as theirs!
I love this look entirely, even with the red line. For anyone who hasn’t seen the mosaic of Theodora that is being referred to, please look it up. It’s a very powerful piece of ancient art.
Agree! Those mosaics are stunning examples of Byzantine art. I’m going to try to see them in person soon! I really enjoy that it was Peter Philips’ source of inspiration.
I hate the skinny models. They look like elves or fairies or some kind of non human creatures.
I can’t get over how dry one of the girl’s lips look…it’s distracting me form the beauty of her makeup
I agree everything else looks great but her lips look sickly.
Just wow.. that look is soooo awesome!
Oh! When I read the nail polish in “Beige Petale” I gasped. Doesn’t even matter what color it is! The thing sounds gorgeous.
So many choices to look for, and with fog surrounding me, I long for spring! I think, though, that the girls could use a few more burgers and fries but, as they say, that’s the look. And the red line is not a focal point; it’s a distraction.
Minus the red line, I think this would be a very wearable look. I even love the hair. I may try something similar on my day off later this week!
Oh wow, what an incredible look! Very interesting…not something I would wear, but I respect it as art work. Models are lovely, especially the one on the left. She has a very cheeky look, with a hint of a smile. Good job Chanel!
Hey Christine do you know when the Vitalumiere Aqua foundation will be available in the US?
No idea!
I’m hoping to get the Lumieres Byzantines de Palette! I heard only 1500 were made and possibly only will be sold in Paris. It’s a really pretty palette but all gold and all cream based I believe.
I saw what’s coming out for Summer 2011…not as big as Spring 2011 but still a lot of interesting colors! 🙂
I love the eyebrows! So perfect and strong. The red line is a really great artistic touch, and the lips of the model on the right look so healthy and natural. I can’t wait to see what Beige Petale is!
those models have the most beautiful, smooth complexions! this isn’t even air brushed and their skin couldn’t be more smooth & beautiful!
This reminds me of a scene in Mad Men, when Don Draper hanging at a japanese restaurant and the waitress has this kind of eyeliner 🙂
the makeup is stunning, and the girls are too -but it is obvious from the collarbones and thin faces, that they are very thin….
So yes I agree they would look better with a little weight on…let’s not be telling our young girls (our daughters or sisters) that beauty weighs 44 kilos
The make up and the models are absolutely beautiful and stunning!
Stunning!
I absolutly love the shadows and must must have!!
whoa!! these are gorgeous, especially the blushes and lip colors! 😮
Those headbands/crowns are amazing. I just know they’re going to be pricey, but I. HAVE. TO. HAVE!
The Regarde Signe de Chanel in Topaki also sounds amazing. Another have to have.
