NARS Holiday 2010: Petit Monstre Lipstick

NARS Petit Monstre Lipstick ($24.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a softened coral-red with subtle copper shimmer. This shade is a limited edition hue featured in NARS’ Holiday collection. It is similar to MAC Rose Maiden (which seems a little brighter), MAC Thrills Lipstick (which has a much more obvious and reflective copper-gold sheen). It really is a beautiful shade, and it is particularly flattering on neutral and warmer skin tones, but the subtle copper shimmer makes it a shade that can be worn by cooler skin tones, too.

NARS Lipstick typically wears four to six hours, with a shade like this lasting about five. It has a creamier texture that’s moisturizing, and this particular shade is more opaque (some shades can be quite sheer). I didn’t notice any waxy scent, as NARS lipsticks are typically unscented but may have the waxy base come through.

RECOMMENDATION: This is such a great fall/winter lip, and it can even work well for summer trends, too–because a little gold gloss can really brighten it up and make it a perfect summer coral.

I would love this! Thrills is my perfect wearable red lip and I’ terrified of the day I run out of it…

shame this one is from NARS (Not avaliable in Portugal) & limited edition…=(

I was confused by this because I bought Little Darling online from Sephora and it had the little ‘new’ icon next to it but not the ‘limited edition’ one so I thought maybe it was permanent. I’ll definitely have to by backups up Little Darling because it’s HG lipstick. Thanks!

I love the colour! I always love things with a coppery/bronze shimmer in them 🙂 I wish I had the money for NARS though hahah 😛

I tried this on in Sephora the other day & instantly fell in love with it….it’s definitely on my “to get” list.

It is so true how the same lipstick can look different on everyone….it’s looks red on you Christine but it looks more brown on me.

Reminds me quite a bit of a darker, slightly more berryish (less coral) MAC Drive Me Wild. Since this is limited edition, too, though, I guess I can’t use it as a replacement when my DMW runs out. Boo hoo.

gasp! who cares about the lipstick! that first image is a perfect product shot. love it! the wonderful photography is one of the biggest things that has always kept me coming back to temptalia.com again and again and again 🙂 great job christine!

beautiful! how would you compare this to MAC’s Drive Me Wild, from Fabulous Felines? I was comparing the swatches, and they look so similar. Does this apply any different – more berry than Drive Me Wild?

I think it’s really close to NARS Christina. I compared the two and couldn’t really tell too much of a difference inside Sephora. I already have Christina and love it 🙂

I tried this on at Sephora and I love the color, but I can’t pull off a bold lip without looking like one of those little old ladies in the grocery store with no makeup on save for brightbrightbright lipstick. If lipstick in general didn’t look so KA-POW on me, I’d have bought it.

Does anyone else notice that NARS has been using many Lady Gaga references lately? First Pokerface, now Petit Monstre, which I think means Little Monster?? very intriguing…

but it is a very gorgeous shade!

Gotta say, this is my new favourite lipstick. I bought it on a whim, and have worn it every day since. Such a versatile interesting shade. Will be picking up a few more so I never run out!

I initially wasn’t interested in this, but after I’ve seen your swatches, I’m considering buying this.
And I agree, a gold gloss like Moonfleet on top must look very pretty. 🙂
