NARS Holiday 2010: Okinawa Trio Eyeshadow

NARS Okinawa Trio Eyeshadow ($45.00 for 0.17 oz.) contains three shades: (as described by NARS) silver, deep cobalt blue, and black onyx. According to Sephora’s description of this trio, the eyeshadows can be used wet to double as eyeliners.

The colors included in the trio are not unique, but they have a beautiful, smooth texture and rich, intense pigmentation that glides on with ease. There is a light silver-white with a frosted finish, medium-dark blue with subtle shimmer-sheen, and a medium-dark black with a satin sheen. These felt smoother and softer than the average NARS eyeshadow.

The silver has the largest portion, while the blue is about half the size and the black a third. It makes sense to have the black be such a thin strip, since you really do not need much black in most looks, but it may be too thin for those who use bigger brushes (say the MAC 252). It’s not a major drawback, as most eyeshadow brushes should be able to maneuver in there, but it was worth noting.

I’m not sure why this is a whopping $45, which is rather killer for a product like this, even for high end. A NARS Eyeshadow Duo contains 0.14 oz. of product and retails for $32, which makes the trio more per ounce (but a better value than the single eyeshadows). The quality is phenomenal, though!

  • Ease of Use: 4/5

RECOMMENDATION: I wish this was priced more in line with NARS Eyeshadow Duos. If you do not have similar colors in your stash already, though, it’s worth taking a peek at.

I have tried and I have to say the quality is really good but it is true that the price is a bit too much for me. I love the holiday collection by Nars this year, but maybe this is one of the products that I won´t buy due to the price

I was going to pass on this due to it’s price, but then Sephora put it on their site during the friends and family 20% – so I paid about $36 for it, still too much for what it is, but I have to tell you, the color combo for me is my best look and I’m always looking for these shades, they are the only blues that look good on me. I also have the MAC mineral Trio in Blue My Mind, LOVE these colors together and buying the all together is easier for me than putting them together in singles. I will say that this particular compact from Nars (and I’m NOT a big Nars fan, only own one other Nars product), anyway, they’re smooth and BLEND LIKE A DREAM. I absolutley LOVE this compact and so glad that Sephora let me buy it with the 20%!!!!

you’re absolutely right christine. i love a lot of nars products but i just don’t think i would buy it for the price, compared to their 6 pan eyeshadow palette which is $55. i believe the colors are beautiful but not unique.

I’ve never liked trios like this – Where they decide for you how much you get of each color. I want equal portions! Aveda’s trios are the same way and I’ve always found it agrivating :/ LOL

Ha, I’m cool-toned and love blue and silver and probably have dupes of this twelve times over. But I’m sure someone out there just starting out might find it handy. It’s like my basic eye combo in a nutshell.

I’ll agree with not digging the unequal amounts of color. (The black, I could almost see if it were separated and a designated liner shade on its own.) I also don’t like the complete lack of division lines between the colors. Even a slight line or indent would make it look neater, IMO. Or go the other way and make it watercolory or marbley or something.

I love this blue! I looked at the light side of Persepolis and thought it was similar too. I love blues like this. Just can’t get enough! What do you think about the old MAC LE blue flame. Good dupe/similar one too?

I’m pretty new to this site and I’m so glad I found it. I just wanted to say thank you so very much Temptalia, for doing all these wonderfully thorough reviews. They’re awesome and I for one really appreciate you. As for the NARS eyeshadow trio, I just bought mine on ebay for about $25, brand new in the box and yes it was authentic. I have many of NARS products incl. all of their brushes so I know. This trio is awesome, worn as is or wet. A great addition to my NARS eyeshadow collection.
