Happy 4th Anniversary, Temptalia!
Four years ago, back in October 2006, Temptalia began. We posted a whopping 230 looks on October 3rd, 2006–nearly a year’s worth of looks, prior to the day, because Temptalia began as an archive for my makeup looks, which I posted on the MAC Cosmetics Livejournal Community. It’s been quite the journey, an ever-exciting ride, and I know there’s so much more ahead of us. I look forward to the next year, and the next, and hopefully many more!

- … published 7,818 posts
- … written 1,780 review posts (keep in mind many cover more than one product or shade!)
- … created 840 looks.
- … asked 1,086 questions through Temptalia Asks You.
- … received 18.8 million visits, 58.9 million pageviews
- … held over 300 contests.
I can’t believe I was an undergraduate when I started this blog and now I’m seven months away from graduating my JD/MBA program. I never thought this is where I would be, but this is exactly where I want to be. I live and breathe this blog, and I love every minute of it. It has given me purpose when I had none, and it has shown me where my passion truly lies. There is just something about the beauty of the Temptalia community that brings joy into my life. This was not my dream when I was five years old, but it has become the dream I never dared to dream. It is everything and more–even better than the dream.

- Temptalia really started to pick up in September 2007 (114 posts vs. 20-40 posts per month previously).
- First review: MAC Holiday 2006 (10/21/06)
- First non-MAC review: Prescriptives Here to Stay 24 Hour Mascara (9/13/07)
- First super-awesome-cool thing I got to do because of the blog: Interview with Dita Von Teese (9/20/07)

At present, Temptalia reaches approximately 500,000 unique people every month, with 1.4 million visits and 4.3 million pageviews per month.
I’d like to take this moment to thank all of the amazing people who have helped to make Temptalia what it is today.
To readers: The biggest thank you of all is to all of you. To all of the lovely people who have believed in me, believed in the spirit of Temptalia, and continued to visit, to support us, and to watch us grow–to participate and contribute to that growth. It is your feedback that helps us know what we do right, what we do wrong; your participation and contributions that give the site diversity and variety; your passion that inspires and motivates me to continually improve Temptalia. You have all watched me grow up (and are still watching me); you have seen me through my struggles, and you are all helping me reach my dreams. You have and will always be my focus and greatest motivator, and I can’t thank you enough for giving me the opportunity.
To my family: I will be eternally greatful for my family; my parents, sister, grandparents, aunts, and uncles. Their enduring support that never wavers, not even once, gives me the strength to make it through moments of doom and pride in myself at each marker of success. Their love and support help me to achieve things I never thought I would, but they always knew I could. To my Mom: she is my mentor, as I work towards making my dreams come true; the most inspiring woman I know–my role model. To my Dad: he keeps me grounded and reminds me to have fun, who checks Temptalia regularly and even watches my YouTube videos after a long day at work. To my sister: for keeping makeup fun and learning about even more so. To my grandmothers, aunts, and uncles: for all of your word-of-mouth recommendations to anyone who listens, for knowing everything I’m capable of and never letting me forget it. You have helped me become the person I am today and shaped the person I will be in the future. You all drive me to reach for bigger, better things; to dream bigger dreams; and to know I will always have you to lean on.
To the boy: The level of emotional support you have given me over the years has been insurmountable. There is nothing that can repay you for that. For every time a comment has made me cry, you have been my shoulder; you have listened to me babble on and on about the same thing for hours on end, and you never tell me to shut up. For every success I have found, you have been there to share it with me. I look at you and know that I’m right where I’m supposed to be. Shaun does much of the behind-the-scenes work here at Temptalia, many things that are virtually invisible but absolutely essential. He is much more than just my emotional support–he’s technical support for all things Temptalia!
Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to visit the blog, leave a comment, ask a question, or simply lurk! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your unending support over these past four years! There are never enough words to express to you what this blog has become to me, what you have all become to me. Every morning I wake up feeling lucky because I’m fortunate enough to be able to bring you Temptalia each day. Thank you!

Oh, sometimes I get very touching comments, but in first couple of years of blogging, mean comments were rough. I’m much better about them now – I’ll gripe to the boyfriend, but it’s gotta be pretty cruel and brutal all around to get me to shed tears over a mean comment now. you have been helping me choose which products to buy and if you say it’s a must, then i believe that it is a must. i bought my first MAC product last year (do it up dazzleglass creme) because i was so tempted with the pictures and the review on this site.

Um we have ester lauder clinique clarins we have Mac but it’s pretty small selection and we are way far behind we are getting fabulous felines soon! We also have lancome chanel and guerlain but very limited

There are actUally not many local brands off the top of my head I can only think of black up which caters for a range of skin tones. Makeup is not huge here which I wish it was cos I wants to try out Nars or UD or some of the cool Mac stuff. But we do have gorgeous safaris and weather cone visit in South Africa it’s gorgeous!!!

Nope – it’s really just an angle and position difference! My lip swatches now are taken straight on, rather than upward and angled towards the side. I also keep my mouth more closed!

No, THANKYOU. Until a couple of years ago I wore vaseline on my face, chapstick on my lips and had bushy eyebrows. I googled make up one day and found your site. I know some people say it’s just make up but looking and feeling pretty is a GREAT thing a girl’s self esteem. Since discovering your blog I’ve really fallen in love with make up. I’m a cheek-blush girl that keeps it all barely there but I still enjoy all your looks. You never know I might dare use more than ONE eye shadow one these days.

I think one of the biggest changes are your eyebrows. Mine look like your ‘then’ look and I’d love to grow them out but not sure how to deal with with grow-out. How did you do it without having the urge to pluck all those hairs that were growing out? LOL
This is my go-to site to find real swatches of makeup and you’re responsible for many purchases like CdP silky lipstick and Guerlain Rouge G lipstick. When I grew them out, what I did was tweeze the ones that were wayyy outside of my future-brows. That really helped me, because then I didn’t get super super crazy grown out brows with hairs in the most random of places. I think it took 6-8 months in sum.
I always say, if your wallet hates me, I can handle it. As long as you don’t, LOL!

I checked through your old links and wanted to say how pretty the prolongwear lipcolours were in your 1997 stash, they hardly have any pinks nowadays, mostly browns/corals. And your eyebrows and lipstick application skills are much better nowadays. 😉 Can’t believe how fresh faced you looked back then, you’ve grown into a really beautiful young woman!

Then I had my boy and was too consumed by him to consider anything else until about 18 months ago and was so pleased to find you were still going! Your blog is mainly the reason I order things online without even going to the store to swatch. Because my MAC VV order was lost in the mail, I had to go to my MAC counter yesterday, which is something I try and avoid. There was a woman swatching everything and deliberating on her VV purchase, but I walked up with list in hand and was out of there in 6-7 minutes (including an exchange and Back 2 MACs!).
You save me plenty of time and trouble! Keep up the good work.

Hi christine!! I’m a reader from Brazil and I’ve been following your site for almost a year now.
I’ve never commented (shame on me) but I really feel like I should congratulate you and share my thoughts about your site.
Prices for make up such as MAC, YSL, Lancome, Dior etc are outrageous here in my country.
For instance: a MAC lipstick, in an official MAC store costs about $40 dollars.
Although I’m lucky to have a good job and being able to buy it, knowing that it costs about $15 in the US makes me NOT wanna buy it. lol
But….. Now, thanks to travelling and having friends who are patient enough to bring from outside Brazil every item I ask lol, I have a good colletion of MAC and became one more fan of makeup 🙂
I even made my boss go through several MAC stores in London looking for Crosswires lipstick because of your site! LOL
Your site is make up paradise, it makes us dream, inspires us… Our days are so full of work and problems sometimes that we don’t even have time to do much “girl stuff”.
So I guess what I want to say is thank you for your hard work, for providing us these girly moments, and for helping us find the perfect make up.

Oh, Christine, congrats a thousand times over! I have been reading since 2007 (I was just fourteen)! Since I wasn’t allowed to wear makeup until I was fifteen, I would drool over all your pretty looks until I finally could try it for myself! I absolutely love makeup and the fun of testing, applying, comparing, looking, well, I love everything about it. My husband is a physician and I often think he finds it silly how much I enjoy it. I always counter that cosmetics is a multi billion dollar industry. That cosmetics should be likened to wearable art and therapy all in one. A new, beautiful lip shade ( that probably looks like the gazillion I already own ) can make me feel amazing when I am feeling really low. I just wanted to say congratulations Christine and you truly deserve everything you get from all the hard work you put into this website. It’s truly inspiring how you keep this up while being in an intense JD/MBA program. I can’t even imagine doing a law degree with an MBA much less keeping an extremely active blog either!
