Make Up For Ever #1C Aqua Lip Liner
Long-wearing, Waterproof Lip Liner
Make Up For Ever #1C Aqua Lip Liner ($17.00 for 0.04 oz.) is a long-wearing lip liner that really does not budge until you take your best makeup remover to it. This is the area it most excels in–the wear is phenomenal, and the liner itself stayed on through drinking water and coffee with no problems at all. It can be layered underneath lipstick/gloss or used to define the lips. It’s soft enough that it’s easy to apply the liner on the lips, but it’s not so creamy that it becomes more like a lipstick pencil than a liner. It doesn’t impart much moisture, but it doesn’t leave lips feeling dry nor dry them out as it wears.
#1C is an interesting shade, because it’s described as a “light neutral beige,” but it almost looks a bit orange when you first swatch it, and then on lips, the natural rosiness of lips (even if you have lesser pigmented lips) seems to bring it down a notch. I like this shade underneath sheerer lipglosses and nude lipsticks best. I think for those with more pigmented lips, it can also help to mute the natural pigmentation of your lips in a more savory way than using concealer/foundation.
The only downside–for some, not all–is that it is a pencil liner, so it may need to be sharpened more frequently in order to get a precise edge. I didn’t have issues using the edge, and I don’t, personally, sharpen every use, to get a precise outline on my lips, but I use the slant more so than the tip itself. I don’t see it as a downside myself, but I could see those who prefer the thinner point of automatic lip liners finding fault here.

Yay! They are fab! aND THEY TOTALLY WORTH THE PURCHASE!
I also want to say that you are LOVELY, seriously, thank you so much for your work! You’re SO helpful!
Which shades are your faves? Any suggestions, Nini?
Thank you!
I would say the 14C, which is a dusty rosy color, it’s beautifully in a NC20-25, and it is not dry at all!
I also have the 16c, its a really bright fushia, and i use it underneath bolder shades (fushias and darker tones) like MAC Girl about town.
I’m so please with them that i will be purchasing more soon (I have the coral one in mind!)
Thanks, Nini! 🙂
oh, looks like something I might need to try!
These liners really are fantastic. Christine, if I can recommend one, I think you should try #18C. That’s the coral one. It’s gorgeous and I think you can do some great things with that one.
Any other must-haves, Shontay?
There’s a red in 8C and a bright orange that’s comparable to temperature rising, 17C.
Will check ’em out, thanks Shontay!
Can these be used to fill in the lips also or just line them?
Either!
I really need to get a few lip liners. I only have a red one and a bright pink one so i’m a bit lost when it comes to other shades. I would love to get a natural lip coloured one that i could use under all lipsticks to prevent them bleeding a bit.
Looks like a shade I’d be interested in 🙂
If anyone is looking for an OMG RED!!! pick up 8C. I used it for my Queen of hearts lip colour and last for the full 12 hours i had wear it on it’s own.
so not not used to wear lip liner
This color almost looks like the same color of my natural lip color :/ except mine are a little more dusty rose.
I love this pencil, it’s become my go-to! It shows up as a muted pinky beige tone on me, which is usually my lip color of choice.
YES to everyone saying 8C red. I bought it maybe a year or so back after seeing it on a Sephora employee. It’s awesome.
So gorgeous, i love this! Thanks for swatching it
Hi! I just wanted to drop a line to say THANK YOU for reviewing this item. I have seriously been on the hunt for the perfect light shade liner. All the ones that claim to be nude or light always come off sort of brown and not that light. This one is perfect!!!!! I love your blog. I look to you before I make a purchase. Kind of like WWTD (what would temptalia do?) lol. Thanks again, you are fab!
Aww 🙂 Thanks, Danielle!
