Free for Haul Friday, Volume #360

Share any beauty goodies you may have picked up in the last week or so, or maybe what’s on your way or on your wish list for next week or month. 🙂

  • Haul: Smashbox Be Legendary Lipsticks (not sure when I can swatch these, as they’re permanent and I need to push through holiday palettes before I get completely overwhelmed!), Becca Blush Trio, Guerlain Holiday
  • Weekend plans: We’ll be keeping it pretty low-key! I celebrated my birthday earlier in the week, so we did our big dinner out already. I’m thinking we’ll stick with our usual brunch place, pick up necessities at the grocery store, and catch up on work.
  • What’s one type of accessory you always reach for?: I always carry a purse and sunglasses when I go out, so those are my new musts. Otherwise, the one that’s always on me are my wedding rings (engagement/wedding band).

Share your pet photos to the Temptalia Pets flickr group! 🙂

Mac Amor Prohibido from the Selena collection(Mac Select on line)
No plans for weekend, maybe see a movie.
Always carry a purse, sunglasses and my wedding ring is always on me when I go out.

Happy belated Birthday! xoxo for the handsome Mellan, have a great weekend Christine.

Julia Avatar

Happy belated birthday to you!

Haul: I ordered these last week, but just received – Bobbi to Glow palette and Becca Blushed with Light Palette, and also rec’d my VIB points reward of the Hourglass set. I love all of the palettes! The extra things that came with the Hourglass set I am less excited about (I thought the lip serum would be clear, it’s actually red), but they’ll be fun to try.
Weekend plans: Working 🙁 I have a customer meeting coming up that I need to get a presentation put together for.
What’s one type of accessory you always reach for?: Sunglasses! I hate squinting. I always wear a watch to work and I really love earrings, so those as well. And now that it’s fall – scarves!

Julia Avatar

I was calling it by the wrong name, it’s the “No. 28 Treatment Oil” and I am so perplexed because on Sephora’s site, they only have one shade and it is a clear high shine finish. I received shade Icon – you know your HG reds! I really hate the pump applicator tbh, especially with the bright color because it just kind of pushes the product around and then is coated in gloss when you have to re-cap it. Who wants to apply their lip gloss with a metal applicator?? Seems more appropriate for an eye serum. if anything. The gloss itself is nice, nonsticky… personally it’s not something I’d shell out for, though!

Happy belated birthday! Hope you had a wonderful day!

Haul:
Estee Lauder: Advanced Night Repair Eye, Pure Color Envy Ombre Sculpting Lipstick (Blush + Bloom), The Edgiest Up & Out Mascara, Nutritious Radiant Vitality 2-in-1 Foam Cleanser Full Size (GWP), Advanced Night Repair Full Size (Tier GWP), 7 Piece GWP (2). The lippie is one of their new releases. Interested to see how this formula works since it’s a duo/ombre.

MAC: MAC x Selena Eyeshadow (Missing My Baby, Selena, No Me Queda Mas). I don’t even need to comment about the nightmare that was placing this order!

Neiman Marcus: Tom Ford Lip Color (Flamingo). Shade was recommended to me by someone. I don’t have it yet so we’ll see. I had sworn off buying TF lippies since I didn’t care for the 2 I had bought previously (Egon and Malik).

Sephora: Sephora Collection Brow Enhancer (Pearly Opal, clearance), Kat Von D MetalMatte Eyeshadow Palette, Caudalie Deluxe Sample Set (GWP), Formula X #Color Curators Urban Bush Babes (EverDream, clearance), Formula X The Colors (Connectivity, clearance), Sephora Collection Almond Foot Mask, Juliette Has a Gun deluxe sample (x3), Formula X #Color Curators Huda Kattan (Baroque Babe), Chosungah 22 24H Raybeam Highlighter (Pink Glow). My first Chosungah; should have it by Monday.

Smashbox (Buy 2, Get 1 Free, Smashcash Off – order was $15 total!): Be Legendary Lipstick (Vinyl, Black Cherry, Vivid Violet), Full Exposure Eyeshadow Duo Deluxe Sample, 3D Lip Sample

Target: Maybelline Loaded Bolds Lipstick (Raging Raisin and Grey Over It) – Thanks kjh and Katherine for the recommendations! Sadly, both lippies came melted so I have to return them.

Urban Decay (20% off and used a $20 kickback): 24/7 Glide On Lip Pencil (Peyote and Bittersweet), Good Karma Lip Brush (clearance 50% off). Grrrr – had to fight the UD “You can only place 5 orders within a month” policy to get this order placed.

White Sands Hair Care (20% off): Infinity Hair Spray, Liquid Texture Medium, Orchids Oil, Orchid Shampoo (Backups – they play very well with the Oribe I use. I think I’ve found my HG combo!)

Weekend plans: Return the Maybelline lippies to Target. Hair appointment. Go to the bookstore to hunt down a book for the book club I recently joined. the rest of the weekend depends on whether it actually continues to rain.

What’s one type of accessory you always reach for?: I always wear earrings when I go out. I actually love jewelry in general. Have gone an an “investment piece” buying jag lately picking up a few new pieces (Christian Dior necklace, Rachel Zoe ring, Diane Von Furstenberg ring and necklace, Alexander McQueen ring, etc.) I love hats and have a few but never remember to throw one on 🙁

Julia Avatar

I totally ransacked the Formula X clearance! I ordered a few of the Liquid Crystals colors and I loved them so much that I went back for more… and a few more… and just one more… 🙂 I ended up with 8 I think? They are so pretty – $5 was a great deal!

Julia Avatar

The stock seems to be dwindling at this point, but the Liquid Crystals (Christine reviewed most of them) formula/line that I bought are just fantastic. It’s a glass-fleck finish, so it’s super sparkly but still pretty easy to remove. Of the ones that are still available, I would recommend trying out Borealis- it’s a gorgeous deep olive with gold shimmer.

Michele @Binxcat4ever Avatar

Thank you! I have no idea how I missed those. I find when I’m on the Sephora site items seem to sometimes be there and sometimes not. I almost never can find new releases. I can’t order from Sephora today because I’ve already submitted my September claim for the tax overages Sephora charges me to my State Tax department for my refund (yes, it’s a major pain to track everything and submit a spreadsheet and invoices!). If they’re still available tomorrow, I may try to get: Borealis, Euphoria, Whirlpool, Naughty Newton, Spectrum, and Beacon. any of those I should remove from my cart?

Julia Avatar

I only have Spectrum and Beacon out of the others you listed (I don’t think the other ones are the same finish), but those 2 are gorgeous! If you reeeeally love sparkle like I do, you could also check out Demeter, it’s a gold shimmer with holo fleck 🙂

Their sale stock on the website fluctuates A LOT. My guess is that they call this stuff back in from the stores when it gets discontinued because it’s easier to sell online (wider audience) and so it sort of shows up in waves. Just a theory, though!

Katherine T. Avatar

I think I’m going to have to check out Smashbox Vivid Violet! Let me know how you like it. I got Violet Riot from them, and it’s one of the prettiest and highest quality purple lipstick in my stash.

kjh Avatar

One of the reasons I ruled out Selena. Is the plan still to regear and do another run of Selena? I got a package and was very excited, singing OMG Taraji’s Here to Merrily We Roll Along. I use that tune a lot, mostly for wishing people unacceptable use of a cattle prod. But it was not Taraji, it was Paula! Booo! MAC put a credit on my card, and just stated they did it, no explanation. Makes me think there will be none. Maybe I was smart to finally order burnt pepper with it, despite bp being a dupe for Taraji. Maybe that was when I tried to start the 2 dupe rule. Gotta do something to cut down he buying.

Linda Avatar

Mellan says, “I ate too much of Christine’s bday cake.” Happy Birthday!

Haul:
Got three new items this week. Two have solved my frustratingly dull looking under eye area:

Estee Edit Pore Vanishing Stick
Becca Under Eye Brightening Corrector

The pore stick just melts into the skin, mattifying, and creating a smoothness. Then over foundation I apply the Becca Brightening Corrector, then a bit of concealer. It works. If you want to create the “triangle of light” area (insert eye-roll here at that phrase) that looks natural, polished and smooth I recommend giving this a try. Very happy with the results.

Thanks to Wendy (thanks, Wendy!) I got the Anasatsia Foundation/Contour Stick. Mink works best with my skin tone. Makes a bit of gentle contouring a snap, and I like it very much. I have never done a good job contouring my nose, but now I can tame that honker. 🙂 Doing my nose correctly makes a difference, and this has allowed me to dial it in.

Weekend plans: Contractors arrive tomorrow to start the re-do the upstairs bathroom and paint the hallway and re-do a bedroom. So I think my weekend will be a mix of answering questions and staying out of the way.

What’s one type of accessory you always reach for?: Earrings, always, always. I can go without anything else (wedding rings, aside) but I really dislike being without earrings.

Linda Avatar

Only thing from the Edit I’ve tried, based on reviews. Nothing else in the line really speaks to me or is needed. Here’s hoping the opinion holds up over time. So far, so good.

WARPAINTandUnicorns Avatar

Haul: Nada still waiting for the Vice Junkie lip palette to sock the Canadian Sephora stores/online. 🙁

Weekend plans: IMATS Toronto on Saturday filming that evening most likely as well.
Kat Von D is 30% so I’m going to hit up that booth first once I’m in. (Line up was an hour wait after the doors opened last year. lol)

What’s one type of accessory you always reach for?: I always carry a purse and sunglasses when I go out as well. They are both I need them products. 😉

Wajiha Avatar

Haul: The last Guerlain Pause d’ete anywhere online I think, and the Mac Star Trek eyeliner in Pure Show. The former cuz I just couldn’t make myself get past it, resisted for nearly three months and then just broke down and bought it just before it went out of stock and the latter cuz I swatched it in store on my hand, walked around all day with it, got rained upon, washed my hands multiple times and it was still there at the end of the day! And I was in the market for a liquid gold eyeliner anyway.

Weekend Plans: Willing the Modern Mercury Highlighter to come back in stock on Selfridges and by willing I mean refreshing the page obsessively. It just got released in Australia and it is 85 USD locally *sigh* I can’t justify shelling out that much and they don’t offer any discounts (first order e.g.) here either. I wonder if netaporter will ever get it :/

Accessory: I would say a watch other than my rings of course.

Wajiha Avatar

I finally got it from Harrod’s they have the entire range in stock. They also have a 10% off on everything for Rewards Members until midnight October 2nd UK Time (maybe another hour or so more), that halved the shipping cost nearly.

Erin Avatar

Haul: Nothing yet really, I picked up a new NYX Microbrow. I picked up The brunette a few weeks ago and it was too red. Taupe is too yellow. I think Ash Brown is my next stop. I’ll do a comparison on the shades soon. At least the Brow Mascara is right in Brunette which I bought the first time. I’m still preferring Clinique for brows which is hilarious to me after trying Hourglass, NARS, and Chanel first.

Weekend: This week has been a total dumpster fire from top to bottom, I’m pretty sure I’ll spend an excess amount sleeping. Saturday will be shopping/videogames/sleep and Sunday will be games with friends/sleep. I should clean my house too but I don’t wanna (throws toddler-sized tantrum)

Accessories: Sunglasses! I’m very sensitive it seems to light or glare. Being in the PNW it’s essential. sun+rain makes things way too bright! It’s almost impossible to drive sometimes!

Erin Avatar

I like the product more than some but less than others. I prefer the Clinique because it’s softer and more pigmented. That makes it easy to overdo but faster to do. The Nyx is harder and more lightly pigmented, it looks more natural for large areas. I don’t have overly sparse brows so it’s a toss up really. As for the brow mascara, it’s the same deal. More pigment. The Nyx looks more natural. Like the subtlest enhancement. The Clinique is not quite Instagram brow territory when used correctly but it’s more noticeable and glamourous. I don’t naturally think of myself as glamorous but I used to have very very thick brows. So most people would still say I do but not as much as I used to. The clinique makes me look younger to my eye because of this. But only people who have known me for a long time would know that or feel the same.

As for the week, it just got worse, so yeah weekend, get your ass in gear!

Miradan Avatar

Haul: five Smashbox lipsticks: Tarot Card, High, My Digits, On Set, and Deal Breaker (also High Stakes, Cliff Hanger, and Booked, which I am returning)

Weekend Plans: Spend time with family, head out of town for a couple days on Sunday

Accessory: My purse, of course, but also within purse, I have my compact mirrors for applying and reapplying lipsticks — I’ve picked up some pretty ones on Etsy that makes it all feel “fancy.”

Miradan Avatar

None of those colors were quite right for me — I even gave Booked a full “leave the house” test and it was just a little something not quite right; maybe it might have worked better for me as a cream lipstick, not a matte. I may give High Stakes another chance at some point.

But the ones I kept are lovely; in particular, On Set is relatively unique for my stash and My Digits is a beautiful cool-ish mauve. Tarot Card is matte but actually has some fine shimmer in it. I’d like to try more Smashbox lipsticks in the future, but I think I’m done with buying them unswatched!

Michele @Binxcat4ever Avatar

Glad to hear you like On Set. I had it in my cart and opted to switch for another shade on my last buy. I saved it to go back for. I love the way Smashbox has their lipsticks organized on site so you can easily sort by shade or finish. I wish other retailers would do the same!

Tammy Avatar

Happy birthday Christine!

Haul: Tom Ford cream color for eyes in Platinum, Tom Ford blush in Wicked, and Tom Ford lips and boys in Hiro. Needless to say, I LOVE all three of these products. Tom Ford cream colors are effortless, just swipe them on, add mascara, and I’m done. Platinum is a unique color, much cooler than I expected, and I like the contrast against my medium warm skin tone. Hiro is great, I have been using it all over lips and then using my vampy red fall lip pencils from NARS and Bite Beauty to add a thick line of deeper color along the out lips, much like an ombré lip.

Weekend plans: My youngest daughter turns 26 on Sunday, and we will be going to our local apple orchard to celebrate!

Accessories: Always my wedding rings, earrings, and a purse.

thirteen Avatar

Haul: I decided I needed some brighter eyeshadows (I mostly have neutrals and want to be a little more adventurous) so I ordered 5 from MUG and a Z-palette to keep them in. But they haven’t arrived yet!

Weekend plans: I’m trying to save up for my vacation in three weeks so nothing for me. This week has been absolutely bonkers at work so it’ll be fine to just rest and do some reading.

What’s one type of accessory you always reach for?: Sunglasses ALWAYS. ALWAYS. Other than that, not much…I’m not a huge accessorizer. Other than a hair tie, I guess? Gotta make sure I can put my hair in a ponytail if necessary.

thirteen Avatar

Venom, Anarchy, Chickadee, Preppy (not bright, but looks interesting), and Hot Pants.

This is definitely a little out of my comfort zone. WE SHALL SEE.

Fran Avatar

Good for you! I love to play with color, but it scared me a bit in the beginning. Sometimes you have to try a lot of different colors before you find the ones that look really great on you.

kjh Avatar

Good for you, breaking out of the neutral comfort zone. Once you’re out, you’re out. Yay! Have fun playing, and don’t forget to look at Christine’s MUG swatches and reorder them by editor’s highest rated. Check ’em out, then wait for a mug sale to further your collection with shades you like and that are affordable.

thirteen Avatar

Oh yeah, definitely. I have several MUG shadows already and like them a lot, but I’ve heard negative things about them since I bought those so I checked to make sure that all of the ones I bought had good grades before I picked them up. I’d be lost (but probably have more money in my bank account!) if it weren’t for Christine’s swatches. 😉

Blue Avatar

Haul: Histoires de Parfums sample set and Etat Libre Remarkable People perfumes from Sephora. The Histoires ones are really fun and I recommend! Remarkable People… is not my jam, but I can see other people enjoying it.

Weekend plans: Work, then play video games and try perfumes with my partner. <3

What’s one type of accessory you always reach for?: 99% of the time I only wear rhinestone studs (two piercings in each earlobe), but I'll occasionally go for a novelty statement ring or a rhinestone necklace for the once every few months occasion the spirit and setting move me. I'm notoriously minimalist with jewelry.

Happy birthday, Christine! Honestly I can't say enough about how amazing you and your blog are. I know I speak for a lot of us when I say I really appreciate the intelligence, astounding work ethic, and class you bring to beauty blogging. I hope you had a wonderful birthday.

Blue Avatar

We’ve played a lot of old school games on an emulator, like Link, Zelda, and Mario for NES, and the Crash games for Playstation. Stuff one or both of us loved as kids. Right now we’re playing the new Gauntlet game, and it’s been a blast. It’s a bit of a challenge to find games that are a good match for us because frankly I’m not as experienced of a gamer except at the really retro stuff, and I’m not nearly as good overall. It’s tricky to find stuff where I’m able to keep up because of the discrepancy in our general skill levels and the much narrower scope of styles of games I have experience with. For anyone reading who is in a relationship with someone either way more or less into video games than they are, I think the games I mentioned above could be a good starting point to try playing together, if that’s something you’ve wanted to do. And If anyone reading has recommendations, I would appreciate them!

Do you or your husband game at all?

Donna Avatar

Got the new Urban Decay Naked Ultimate Basics All Matte, All Naked palette. I have all the other Naked palettes, so I couldn’t resist. Also picked up Smashbox Insta-Matte Lipstick Transformer, Tony Moly Banana Lip Balm (love bananas, love the Tony Moly Banana line), a couple of Ulta fall cozy scented body lotions, and an Oly Breathable polish in Stronger Than Ever (red w/ small sparkles).

monica Avatar

Haul: Beauty.com (so sad they are closing):
Lesportsac Boarding pass makeup bag
Hair Brush
and the gwp

Backstreet Boys Vegas tickets…that put a giant dent in my wallet lol
Super Megafest comicon tickets

Weekend plans: not a clue yet but all I know it’s cake day tomorrow! Another year fini

What’s one type of accessory you always reach for?: I don’t really wear adornments. If anything, it would be earrings.

monica Avatar

Missed this but
Happy birthday week 🙂
Don’t know if we are considered Libras or Virgos now with the new sign change lol

haha thanks. It’ll be my first time in Vegas, and it’ll be a good time.

Genevieve Avatar

I would agree Bonnie. When David was in primary school, he had 9 birthday parties to go to in 3 weeks – half of his grade had a birthday in September. He was exhausted by the end of it. I had to confiscate the lolly bags because it was too much for him.

Bonnie Avatar

9 in 3 weeks?!?!? Holy cow!!!!! That’s crazy. I also have lots of family and friends with Sept birthdays. My dad, my best friend, etc. I wonder why?! I guess I guess the holidays are the best time for conceiving ?

Katherine T. Avatar

Happy Birthday Christine!! Another Sept baby, hope you had a fab day 🙂
*Haul – KVD Metal Matte palette – this is going to be my top fave shadow palette for colorful eye looks! Good quality shimmers are a dime a dozen, but I absolutely love how it has so many high quality colorful mattes. And I can pair the colorful mattes with UD Spectrum too. I tested out 2 of the weaker swatches on my oily lids yesterday, and with primer, they held up for +9 hrs during a very active day, so it bodes well for the rest of the shadows. Finally caved and got Kylie Jenner Gloss and Lip Pencil in Posie K during the free shipping deal. It’s a pretty rosy pink. She uses ColourPop to make her glosses/lip pencils, so I took a chance.
*Weekend – still on my staycation for another week, so more spring cleaning around the house, purging and sorting thru my stash, testing out new makeup looks/products. Next week, will reward myself with a big swatchfest at local stores to check out new holiday goodies
*Must-Have-Accessory – definitely my sunglasses! My eyes can get sensitive to light, and the sunglasses also protect against sun damage around the eye area

Nancy T Avatar

Katherine, I am so happy to read yet even further affirmation of the KVD MetalMatte palette’s quality! Oh goodness, I don’t need another e/s palette, but this one has me in its sites and I may need to just surrender and get it, eh? Having great mattes in colors would certainly be a boon for my very hooded eyes, since shimmer in my crease/hood area is usually a no-no.

Katherine T. Avatar

Yes, I was quite pleased! One of my eyes is partially hooded, and of course, it’s a lot oilier than the other eye, so it has to pass that test. And I know a shadow’s a total dud if it creases on both eyes, even with primer. It’s strange though that Christine’s Lightest Mattes swatched better than mine, but my Med/Dark Mattes swatched better than hers, so there must be variations in batches. But I’ve been looking for high quality Colorful Mattes for a while, they are really hard to find, esp. in a palette. If I had to buy 5 of them as singles ( blue, purple, green, gray, rose) from different brands, that alone would be at least $50 or more, and I would have to pay another $15 to buy a Z palette for them. So to have it all in a $60 palette with coordinating shimmers was a no brainer.

Bonnie Avatar

You’re totally selling me on this palette Katherine!! I was holding off bc I bought Serpentina right away and it turned out to be kind of a dud. This one seems much more promising!

Katherine T. Avatar

Oh yes, I was really worried. I wasn’t too impressed with her Shade and Light Quads (thought many of the mattes were dry), and Serpentina was an over hyped disaster, but MetalMatte is light years ahead of those kits in terms of quality and value. IMO, Ms. KVD has outdone and redeemed herself with MetalMatte!

kjh Avatar

You convinced me. Do we think it might last until the sale? Doubt it. Glad about this. Kvd mattes can be right up there with Viseart, and the extensive colorways of this palette speak to me, esp the mildly less razzle dazzle finishes than UD.

Katherine T. Avatar

Yes, when I first swatched some of the Med/Dark Mattes in KVD Metal Matte, I immediately thought of Viseart! I have swatched the Viseart mattes in store, and I daresay that some of the Med/Dark Mattes are comparable in quality or even better, very smooth and pigmented.

The Makeup Train Avatar

Haul: Plenty by Tracy Reese dress (photo is on Instagram), Mario Badescu facial water spray, Morphe Brushes 12NB palette, NYX eye makeup remover, dresses from London Times and Maggy London (from Ebay), Catherine Zoraida Fern Hoop Earrings, Azaara Smoky Topaz Drop Earrings (they were featured on the TV show “Reign”!)

Weekend plans: Just relax. I have been working a lot this week and I need to rest.

What accessory do you always reach for?: My shoulder bag and earrings! I feel so vulnerable without my earrings.

Deborah S. Avatar

Haul: I just picked up most of the Colourpop fall release with most of it going to my daughter but I did pick up the lipstick Barracuda and one eye shadow for myself, I think it was Brady. I started Christmas shopping for my daughter who is away at college. Every year I do an advent calendar which I made from 25 boxes and I try and find little things to put in the boxes. Pretty much the entire box last year was makeup as a lot of things fit in the small boxes. This year I want to do something else but can’t decide so I’ve spent a lot of time on line searching and so far inspiration hasn’t struck. Anyway, I haven’t taken the time to do any other hauls.
Weekend Plans: More of the same. Pretty boring up here in Montana right now!
Accessories: I always carry a purse and I always wear diamond ear studs. I don’t think they have been out of my ears except for cleaning since I purchased them for myself back in the early 80’s.
Mellan is such a cutie.

Lea Avatar

Haul: I picked up a few Tom Ford items last weekend – the Honeymoon quad, an eye blender brush and concealing pen; two of the matte cream eye shades from Armani – but I think I’m returning those; I know I’m not going to reach for them, some new Deborah Lippmann polishes (Nordstrom had a buy two, get three free deal), and the Fresh Black Tea Instant Perfecting Mask.

Weekend Plans: Just relax I think. I was traveling this week and I need to get some sleep; my system is out of whack.

Accessories: I always wear my usual jewelry (most of it stays on apart from one set of earrings, a Tiffany bracelet and my rings) of Yurman, a tennis bracelet and bezel necklace, plus my diamond studs. Besides that, it’s my purse, sunglasses and phone (which is and isn’t an accessory – more like a lifeline)!

Alice Avatar

Happy birthday!

Haul: From Amazon – a new acrylic makeup organizer. From NYX – Jet Set and Sway suede matte lip liners, Dark Nebula and Electromagnetic cosmic metal lip creams, White eye shadow base (I think it used to be called Milk?).

Weekend Plans: Work on the house. Shoot some video for the advanced video production class I’m taking.

Accessory: Sunglasses, wedding ring, watch, earrings, and I almost always wear a necklace and a ring on my right hand.

Nancy T Avatar

Hi Mellan! You handsome dude, you! ??

Haul: Waiting on my Selena package from MAC today! I ordered Como La Flor, Amor Prohibido and Dreaming Of You Lipsticks and Selena, Missing My Baby and No Me Queda Màs eyeshadows. Couldn’t find the cheek duo until after the fact, so I will try to order that tomorrow.

Weekend plans: Wash, rinse, dry, repeat. I am so predictable for weekends! Do hair, nails, food shopping and meeting on Sunday.

What’s one type of accessory you always reach for: Cannot leave home without my purse and shades! Plus, I always wear my nameplate necklace I had custom made in NYC many years ago, 2 silver rings, and most of the time 2 pairs of earrings. In winter, black leather jacket.

Nancy T Avatar

Talk about having a happy moment of relief when the UPS dude dropped my package off BEFORE I had put any eye makeup on! I thought the boxes look much nicer IRL, same with the packaging. So I did a simple purple smoked out with pink eye, my trademark cat-eye, Amor Prohibido lipstick, and felt like a Tejano princessa! Tomorrow, a brown & pink smokey eye and red lips!

Mariella Avatar

Haul: I broke my “no buy” because the Buxom eyeshadows (the “new” ones) finally arrived in store. I got 5 of them – Bronzed Bod (which looks more rose gold than bronze but, oddly and wonderfully, turns a smoky grey when I blend it into my crease), Rose Gold (which looks more gilded green than rose gold though it does seem to “shade shift” when blended), Dawn Til Dusk, Made of Jade, Twilight Tryst and then, to make the 6th, Champagne Fizz. Also picked up my birthday present from Sephora.

Weekend plans: 60th birthday for husband and wife friends tomorrow (their kids are making them a big party) and on Sunday, driving to visit our youngest at uni and take him for brunch. Daughter and son in law are coming as well.

Accessory: depends on the weather, really, but I usually grab a scarf, stole or pashmina – great way to add colour to an outfit and comes in very handy running from my car to a building if it suddenly rains. I almost always wear some diamond earrings I inherited from my mom – I rarely take them off – and wear my eternity band (more practical for me than my engagement ring and wedding band).

CeeBee Avatar

Haul: Yesterday, ordered ABH Mario palette, stick foundation concealer and Ultimate Glow Kit. Colourpop had free international shipping so I got Bardot, Poolside, Candyman, Might Be, Femme, Viper, Calypso, Barracuda, Wolfie, Master Plan, Alyssa and Frick n Frack. And then there was 20% off Sephora Black Card so that meant Zoeva En Taupe eye brush set and Bite Amuse Bouche lippies in Rhubarb, Sake and Pepper… and I’m expecting the Becca Afterglow cheek palette to arrive on Monday. So my credit card is a smoking ruin and as yet, I haven’t received any of it… Next week though, whoo hoo! 🙂

Weekend plans: Hanging out with my cat, she just got diagnosed with terminal liver cancer so I’m spending as much time with her as I can.

Accessory I always reach for: My Tissot watch, but I just broke the strap so I need to get it replaced!

CeeBee Avatar

It is very gold based – the only glow kit I don’t have is That Glow, otherwise I don’t think I would have bothered. Really looking forward to trying out Amber Gold, the rose gold pinky one. And I see the Master palette has sold out already!

kjh Avatar

You must be from the land of Aus, if you can get Zoeva through Sephora! Wish we could in the states. I wish you and your cat peace. Pets are the best parts of our lives. Their impending loss is truly heartbreaking.

CeeBee Avatar

Close, I’m in New Zealand! Still don’t have access to a lot of brands but it’s better than nothing, i suppose…

And thanks, kjh – I’ve been a blubbing mess for the last week but she is at home with us and not in any pain, so that’s a small blessing at least. 🙂

Celia Avatar

HAUL: KVD Metal/Matte palette (was not expecting this to be SO HUGE but indeed it’s massive. Absolutely lovely though. Much better than Serpentina for me. The mattes blend beautifully and ofc the Metal Crush formula is great. Tested on multiple skin tones beautifully), a ton of Makeup Monsters lipsticks, Germain’s holiday Rouge G (Sapphire. Durable red shade but absolutely gorgeous. The formula may even be more perfect than usual here, though. Creamy but wears great), Smashbox liquids in Chill Zone/Girl Gang/Miss Conduct and lipsticks in Grunge/Femme Fatale/Maniac, the lovely red matte MUFE lip ink kit, etc.

WEEKEND PLANS: Hanging out with the furbabies, packing to visit my sister and new nephew in NYC, memorizing lines, rehearsal, cleaning, friends. And watching Luke Cage ofc.

MUST-HAVE ACCESSIORIES: Sunglasses are my major must. Usually either my Tom Ford pair or my Gucci pair (I lose inexpensive sunglasses. Years ago I invested in my first pricey pair and never misplace them now!). Protects the eyes and skin. After that earrings are a go-to.

Fran Avatar

Yes, it’s a really crazy size! That might me the only thing I don’t like about it. Well, I wish Suede were cooler. I think Stone is a bit dark for an everyday hood/blending/crease color for me.

Celia Avatar

It’s comically large. Even when I compare it to other super bulky palettes the sheer length of it looks silly. But definitely I’ve been enjoying it! Such an improvement over Serpentina. Stone is pretty intense for sure. For me, Stone is deep enough that I don’t need Jet ha. But it lightens nicely mixed with lighter colors so good versatility. I like Suede but a cooler version would be good too. Finding cooler transitions certainly can be tricky sometimes! But definitely every shade has worked well for me and there are several interesting layering options for fine-tuning the existing shades into something more custom.

Haul: I ended up buying a new foundation. Don’t need that but it was 25% off and I had a discount check so it became cheaper plus not expensive brand. It was from a Swedish brand and two reasons for buying it. Extremly good shade match which is rare. Other reason was the name “Norrsken” which translates to Northern Lights and then i was all grabby hands. Downside is the packaging which is the weirdest I have seen. Think Armani maestro but without a dropper but some pin instead and you screw this up and liquid leaks on the sides when bottle open and you hear cracking from the cap when opening up. Anyways I guess since it was cheap then packing gets bad as well. Foundation good though.

Weekend plans: Probably just relaxing.

Accesories: Mainly purse. And my glasses. Sometimes a Watch.

Anna Avatar

I Think it is only sold in Scandinavia. Shades only range from fair to medium so doesn’t suit everyone. But the most fair was completely white so that is actually good for the lightest of light.
Anyways I am happy to announce that the packaging does not suck as much as I tought. Cap was stuck in pump so when I opened the long stick was actually the pump LOL
I managed to fix that now so I got a normal Foundation bottle.

Lovely doggie picture!
Haul: Some new makeup brushes from Real Techniques. A large set was on sale and I just couldn’t resist.
Weekend plans: It is the Grand Final today of our football (AFL) teams, so I will be watching that. Tomorrow, I am having the family around for dinner.
Favourite Accessory: Definitely my sunglasses, lipstick and perfume of the day and purse.

Genevieve Avatar

Well I hope he had a great time watching our Grand Final because the team that won hadn’t had a win since the year I was born! It was a great match, very close until the end. Does he barrack for any particular team?

Happy belated birthday, Christine!

Haul: Lunatick Labs: Elvira Palette; it’s so cool! Nordstrom Rack: UD Revolution Lipstick in Sheer F-Bomb and Too Faced Glitter Glue. Medusa’s Makeup Sept. subscription box: Eye Dust in Lemonade (pale shimmery yellow), Body Shimmer in Healthy (a huge pan of pale pink highlighter in a cool compact), a small bottle of Brush Cleaner shampoo, and an eye shadow brush. Glambot: An unused MAC Hello Kitty palette still in the original box and an unused tube of UD Revolution Lipstick in Sheer Rapture. I paid about $5 for each. Spirit of Halloween: False lashes with red jewels and roses on them. I’m going as the Queen of Hearts this year. I also ordered SugarPill liquid lipstick in Kim Chi. (I hope it arrives soon. It seems everyone else has gotten theirs.), UD Ultimate Basics Palette, the Kat von D Metal Matte Palette, and a big bottle of Cinema Secrets brush cleaner.

Weekend plans: Saturday I’m going to a my friend’s place. My hubby is going to do some minor household handy-man type stuff for her (she’s disabled and newly divorced), and I’m going to give her another makeup lesson.

What’s one type of accessory you always reach for?: Besides my wedding set, I always wear earrings.

kjh Avatar

Have a bunch of lunatick on my wish list. Theirs is the only neutral palette that appeals to me. I forget, did you get the big contour palette? Good job on your discount prowess. My mum made me a costume as one of the cards one year: lots of intricate painting on window shades that she somehow stiffened. H costumes are amongst my fondest childhood memories. And I love Kim Chi, the food!

Rachel R. Avatar

No, I didn’t get the big contour palette from Lunatick. It’s still on my wish list. Your mom sounds like she was quite talented at costumes. I don’t like Kim Chi the food, but my lipstick arrived today and it is a lovely light grayish-lavender with subtle shimmer.

Haul: None this week, it’s been all groceries with the small exception of chocolates and magazines for me.

Plans for weekend: cleaning and tidying ready for my parents coming down in the week for a few days.

Accessories: I always grab my crossbody Marc by Marc Jacobs bag and my sunglasses, sometimes an umbrella. It is the UK after all! I wear my Pebble Steel watch everyday, it is so useful when my phone’s in my bag and I need to answer quickly to a text message.

Haul:
Guerlain:
Meteorites de Legende
Meteorites Foundation Primer
Lingerie de Peau in 02N and 02W – I can hardly tell the difference between the 2 on my skin but if I had to only wear 1 it would be the 02W. I have a few other foundations that are a little darker to mix in with the 02N if I want to deepen it a bit.

Macy’s:
Shiseido Instant Eye and Lip Makeup Remover – this is comparable to Lancome’s Bi-Facil and I like the dispensing system (the squirt nozzle as opposed to Bi-Facil’s disk with a hole in it).
Chanel Empreinte du Desert (my second one – I love this quad! It’s surprisingly versatile and I just love the sheeny finish).

Amazon:
byAlegory acrylic organizers -various sizes (oversized compact, compact shadows, palette, paint pot)

Weekend plans: Aside from the usual (laundry, cooking for the week), on Saturday I want to reorganize my palettes and move some things around in my tower vanity. I find that I am only reaching for my pre-made palettes lately and not getting enough use out of my single de-potted shadows. I think it’s because I have them organized by color so for one look I’d have to grab 3 or 4 palettes and even though I pre-plan my look for the week, come morning I’d rather just grab a palette. I’ve created weekly quads but it’s just not the same – my stash needs an overhaul and a re-organization. I’m going to go through my face chart templates and put the looks together by rows (like the pre-mades are) and hopefully I can do it so that I’ll have a whole palette that uses 1 or 2 blushes (i.e. for MAC Neutral Cool x 15, I use Plum Foolery or another plummed mauve that I can’t remember the name of).

What’s one type of accessory you always reach for?: My engagement ring, sunglasses and sometimes earrings.

Pearl Avatar

It’s funny -it’s not noticeable for me swatched, but then for a whole face its jusssst a touch too light. Very subtle.

And happy belated birthday to you! I hope it was memorable enjoyable and with those you love.

Fran Avatar

Do you like the organizers? I’ve been looking at them on amazon’s website — my collection has outgrow my current storage, and while I can winnow out a few things, I love most of what I have and want to find a way to keep it handier in a small space, while being able to see what I have. Unfortunately, with me there can be a bit of ‘out of sight, out of mind’, lol!

I’ve got several by byAlegory sitting in my cart, but also one by Ikee Designs, one by CY Acrylic, and one my Miusco, having trouble making up my mind. Also looking at brush-drying trees on amazon, I love my Benjabelle but sometimes need more than one and these are much less expensive.

Pearl Avatar

I just finished my reorganization of everything and checked my email and found this comment from you – perfect timing!

I really like my byAlegory organizers and recommend them. To be fair, I’ve only ever bought from this band because as my stash grew, I figured one stop shopping was easiest. I like the variety of organizers they have and it suits my needs. Now you’ve got me curious about the other brands, though -?. I’ll have to check them out.

They are sturdy and a good size so you’re not just talking about storing four or five of something – you can store up to at least 8 in any organizer. Most of my collection is MAC so that’s what I’m using for comparison here.

– The large palette organizer has 8 sections with removable slats so you can make it bigger to fit two or three palettes in one section. The Marc Jacobs palettes, Lorac, MAC, Urban Decay, etc. palettes fit in these.
– The oversized compact and regular sized compact organizers hold the smaller palettes or quints or quads. They don’t have removable slats but you can fit two in each section and there are 2 rows of 5 sections ( so approximately 10 smaller pallets could be stored there).
– The single eyeshadow organizers hold 16 larger single eyeshadows, like the thickness of a Colourpop eyeshadow or the larger size of MAC eyeshadows, like the mineralize singles.
– The smaller compact organizer comes in a single column of 8 sections and it’s perfect for MAC blushes or even Chanel quads.
– The paint pot organizer doesn’t have raised sides to completely house them, just enough of a lip on the side to keep them in their section and from sliding around inside the drawer. I store my paint pots and creams lid down so I can at least see a little bit of the color or read the label when I’m reaching for it (I have to be very careful at 5:30 in the morning).
– the liner holder comes with 26 slots and the bottom 6 slots are jumbo size, the other 20 are your standard size.

All in all, I am very happy because it keeps my stash organized and helps me make good use of it.

I was thinking of getting the Benjabelle but I have a few Sigma brush drying towers that are okay (for now). I don’t particularly care for the bottom rubber band shaper – I’d rather shape them myself and let them air-dry without being confined – but for now, they work. This was their first generation and I’m hoping they come out with another one with bigger slots for face brushes and without the rubber bands on the bottom.

Fran Avatar

Your enthusiasm is helping me to get motivated for the big re-organization. It will be good for me to be able to see more of my collection without hunting through bags, boxes, or drawers for what I remember putting away 🙂

I don’t think I would like the rubber-band style brush drying racks. I do like my Benjabelle, it just seems expensive, and, if I’ve done a couple of different people’s faces, I need more than one rack to keep all the bristles pointing downward. For brushes that need shaping while they dry, I use brush guards.

Luna Sea Avatar

Happy Birthday! I just got the KVD Holiday lip set, and I’m so excited to try all the shades. I played with Roxy and Echo, and unfortunately they’re a bit patchy, but I like to mix my liquid lipsticks to make new shades so I can use them for that.

Lulle Avatar

Haul: nothing beauty related! I wanted to get a liquid matte lipstick from Dior when I heard they were available on Nordstrom, but they were gone when I searched for them. I can’t believe they were already sold out (it’s Dior, not Too Faced…) so I wonder if they had a glitch and let them out too early?
Weekend plans: nothing special, this week has been brutally hot so just resting sounds perfect!
Accessories: I’m not an accessories girl, I almost never wear jewelry. The only thing I always have is a purse.

Lulle Avatar

I don’t think Nordstrom could possibly be out of all the shades within a few hours of releasing them for sale. It didn’t happen with the Chanel liquid mattes so I just don’t see it happening with Dior! Something must have gone wrong.

CatG Avatar

Haul: Nothing. But Lorac Mega Pro 3 tomorrow!
Weekend plans: Going to go have brunch with a friend today and might see a group of my friends tomorrow!
What’s one type of accessory you always reach for?: I’m not big on accessories.

Fran Avatar

Mellan always looks so handsome! My tiny hamsters have settled into living separately (had to separate them a couple of months ago because they started fighting, as hamsters tend to do). The bolder one is a bit difficult and moody; she gets very excited at mealtimes, biting the bars of her cage like crazy, like she thinks we might forget to serve her her tiny portion of people food, and running around like a maniac. The smaller, more timid one is becoming a rather sweet little pet. She’s still pretty timid most of the time, but loves to be petted and will try really hard to sit still for it.

Haul: The really cool thing is Make Up For Ever Chromatic Mix – Oil Base in color 13 Blue. OMG, this is amazing stuff! Almost every base product I try is bit too light, too dark, too yellow, too peach or too pink for me. It’s really frustrating. The only one I’ve found that’s not is Dr.Jart+ Black Label Detox BB Beauty Balm SPF 25, which is maybe a hair too ashy for me in the summer, so I’ve been layering a pump of Josie Maran Argan Protect + Perfect SPF 47 (which is too peach/dark for me, but which I love otherwise) under it. The Dr.Jart+ Premium Beauty Balm SPF 45 is closer to my summer color (even though I wear sunscreen every time I go out the door, my skin apparently does tan a bit in summer, getting more golden and a hair darker), but it doesn’t have as much coverage, I need to add concealer. Anyway, there are very few products that really match my skin tone. I almost always have to mix things or add things. So: I mixed one teeny-tiny drop of the blue Chromatic Mix – Oil Base with enough of a base product that I love but that’s too yellow for me — Jane Iredale Glow Time Full Coverage Mineral BB Cream SPF 25 — to cover my face, and, magic! It looked the same color as my skin! Actually maybe a hair too light, so I ordered the Chromatic Mix in brown and in black to see if I can get it exactly right. This is kind of an obsession of mine because I would like to be able to match clients’ skin tones exactly, too. I think that’s one thing that turns a lot of women off wearing foundation or tinted SPF products — they can’t find anything that really matches their skin tone, so they put something on, look in the mirror, and feel like they don’t look like themselves, and just want to take it off. So I would like to be an expert at getting it right.

Fun stuff: Bite Beauty Multistix in Nectar, Lotus, and Mochi — love :-); The Kat Von D Metal Matte eyeshadow palette (so far I’ve tried four colors — Twinkle and Volt on lids and lining lower lid, Bone on brow bone and in inner corner, Suede for blending/hood/crease — and really like it); NudeStix Magnetic Eye Color in Lilith, Twilight, Queen Olive, and Slate (have tried Lilith and Twilight so far, and they were super-easy to apply with fingers and stayed on all day without creasing, and looked beautiful), Make Up For Ever Rouge Artist lipstick in C208 Magenta Pink (love), C306 (Pink Coral — a coral I can wear, which is a great thing to find, although it looks a bit dramatic on me — performs well), and C305 Intense Coral (this one may be too light for me, I’ll have to try it soon!). Bought but not yet tried: the Giorgio Armani Eyes To Kill Trio (the liquid eye tint in #12 Gold Ashes smoky gold, #7 Shadow light purple/gray, and #2 Minuit deep blue) because I’ve been wanting to try the formula and I like all three colors, so it’s a good deal; and the Buxom Stone Cold Babe set because I appreciate a set of cooler neutrals and I’ve been craving new eye colors for some reason; the Urban Decay Junkie Vice lipstick palette, which is partly for my kit, and partly so that I can try some of the colors, that I probably won’t wear too often, like Junkie.

Skin care: Dr.Jart+ Cicapair Tiger Grass Color Correcting Treatment SPF 30 — this stuff really works to cancel out my redness. I’m surprised. Most products that are supposed to calm redness actually make my skin turn bright red. It looks green for a few minutes while it’s settling into my skin, then it doesn’t, and I can suddenly see how pale I really am under the ruddiness. It works under makeup; I can even layer a bit of the Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer on top of it successfully. Texture-wise, it reminds me a bit of Clinique’s Redness Solutions Daily Protective Base SPF 15 as it’s going on my skin, but the SPF is much better, and it’s not just relying on caffeine to reduce the redness.

Hair: I’m really liking Living Proof No Frizz Nourishing Oil for the length and ends of my tailbone-length hair; I can be generous with it without having to worry about my hair looking oily, which can happen if I overdo it with the Satin Hair Serum or with argan oil or Redken’s Diamond Oil. I don’t remember if I’ve mentioned that I also love their Split End Mender, which really helps keep my ends looking good. I’m having less luck with their Timeless Plumping Mousse. It could be that my hair is just too long for volumizing products to work, the length just weighs the hair down too much. I’ll try it again, but I have my doubts. Besides not giving me volume, it made my hair tangly-er, and it’s already very tangle-prone.

Weekend plans: low-key here, too! I have been super-exhausted since going to school, am needing a long time to get back on my feet, but it’s happening, slowly. At least I’ve started to cook again some — my son did almost all the cooking for the past six months! Have been trying some new recipes from The Complete Vegetarian Cookbook by America’s Test Kitchens. Last night I made their Black Bean Burgers (I cooked the beans myself instead of using canned, froze 2 can’s worth for later) and they were really yummy. We ate them on toasted Ciabatta rolls with lettuce, chili sauce and quick-pickled red onions, with a salad on the side. Not quick and easy recipes, but reliably good so far. I’ve also made their zucchini fritters, stuffed poblanos, and millet cakes.

Accessories I always reach for: earrings and a watch. I love watches, I have two by Skagen (one silver, one very dark brown metal), and a new bracelet type watch by Fossil x Opening Ceremony, plus several bands for my FitBit Alta. I also love necklaces, scarves (and scarf pins and rings), and bags. I also love good hair accessories when I can find them — hair sticks, forks, bun holders, headbands, barrettes, etc. The ones I really love I mostly ordered from artisans on etsy. Most of the ones in stores are a little too cute/young for my taste; I like things more streamlined/elegant.

No haul at all. Lessons in self restraint. Mellan looks as if he has a blanket of different colored hair on his back. Must be the differential sun exposure in your new climate. His back is not bleached out, it’s tanned. Hope you were able to clear your calendar for your birthday, and that it was great. Plans: back to my usual ssdd, but glad that I now have Fri off from night job. More than worth the loss of minimal money. Last week I got stuck on the bridge and I always check twitter for closings…it took 85 min to go ~11 miles. OMBFG! Good thing I only had social plans, which I basically missed. No great loss. Accessories: have grossly de-pursed and refuse to get a phone. If I have time off, my usual accessory is Jussi, attached via his waist leash that I call his umbilical cord. Now that it’s cool, he can go again. Yay.

I ended up working on my birthday, haha! That is how I wanted it, so I did not mind 🙂

He has darker coloring on his back than his belly – he’s a pretty dark yellow lab, almost leaning a little fox red in places (which I believe is classified as yellow).

Hope your future Fridays are more fun!
