  • Haul: Holiday barrage — bareMinerals, Smashbox, Tarte, Too Faced, Marc Jacobs, Estee Lauder x Victoria Beckham
  • Weekend plans: The usual — brunch and blogging!
  • Do you like staycations?: I’m a homebody, so I love being home, but practically speaking, I’m terrible at not working if I’m home, so while I like them, they’re probably not actually relaxing or much like a vacation is supposed to be!

Haul: β€” Sooo… yesterday I had a lapse in self-control and I bought the Bobbi To Glow Shimmer Brick Palette. I was trying to skip it, and I wanted to at least wait for your full review… but I had it in my cart when the Thursday rewards went live and I was able to snag the Hourglass 1000pt gift!! I will believe it when I see it, but it’s on my shipping notification. I feel like this is one of my greatest accomplishments LOL. I have been stalking every rewards drop since Sephora announced them, I am just beside myself that it worked. It was sold out in minutes.

Weekend plans: I am going to start volunteering at a local animal shelter; my orientation is tomorrow!

Do you like staycations?: I would certainly take a staycation over working, but love to travel so I like to take the opportunities when I can.

Julia Avatar

Thanks! Forgot to mention I also picked up UD Afterglow in Fetish and Bittersweet from Ulta. Your reviews are so helpful in researching the colors! The testers at my store were horrible – they looked like they had been sitting out since the first shipment; Bittersweet had actually faded to a lavender, lol! Luckily I knew what to actually expect from your swatches and I am so happy with my picks.

Michele @Binxcat4ever Avatar

Yay congrats on being one of the lucky ones! I actually just set a reminder in my phone for the darn reward releases. I’m now within 20 points of 10,000 and would like to get something good.

And yay for volunteering at the shelter. What a wonderful thing to do! I hope your first day goes well.

Julia Avatar

The upcoming UD Vintage Vault looks incredible! But there are only 25… and I have never been anywhere near the 4,000 pts needed. I hope you can get a good one soon! They seem to release pretty faithfully around that 9am PST timeframe. I want to say I carted and checked out (mobile app) at approximately 11:03 CST? The fact that I know down to the minute should tell you how frantically I was refreshing and checking πŸ™‚

Katherine T. Avatar

I was logged in, trying to snag that Hourglass reward perk, and it was gone like the wind!! That was the only reward I was really interested in, drats. I’m hoping they re-stock. But glad you were able to snag yours πŸ™‚

Haul: Kat Von D Everlasting Mini Liquid Lipstick Set & Sephora Favorites Give Me Some Bold Lip

Weekend plans: more job searching, portfolio padding.

Do you like staycations?: Naw spending time at home makes me feel like I’m a lazy piece a crap for not working/doing something. It would be the same as going somewhere and not doing anything at a resort either. I like haveing daily downtime or a few days off but a full week makes me feel uselessly and not relaxed at all. lol I like actually doing something on my vacation time but it usually need a 1 day off before going back to work from it. lol

Michele @Binxcat4ever Avatar

Too funny! I had my daughter send me kitty pics while I was away. πŸ™‚

Do you like staycations?: Any time I have off work is always good. That being said, since I work from home, I’d prefer to go somewhere.

kjh Avatar

Some of these indies, like NM have real interesting stuff, but often don’t include pressed as well as loose shadows. I love it, when you tell us about indie hauls.

Michele @Binxcat4ever Avatar

I’m probably going to create a look using the shadows today. I really like the fact that each piece isn’t full size since I never finish a product anyway. It gives me a chance to change things up without investing a ton of money. It also gives me a chance to try something (like the topper this month) that I probably wouldn’t have bought in a full size.

Haul: Stila Perfect Me, Perfect Hue Palettes – Fair/Light, Medium/Tan, the Bare Minerals Iridescent Topcoat lip glosses – Enchantress, Hypnotist, and Illusionist
Forgot to mention last week that I got the Container Store men’s shoe acrylic box with dividers. I’m using it for my lip products, and this has made it SO much easier to actually use my lip products. I like organizers that aren’t specifically made for makeup in case I change my mind later on.

Weekend plans: No firm plans yet. Still deciding if I want to stay in and recoup from the last weekends or not

Do you like staycations? Yes. I do a lot of weekend road trips.

monica Avatar

I think you would really like it. It will hold most lip products, but the taller ones like Bare Minerals Moxie gloss won’t fit unless you have it an angle.

I tried to muji drawers for lip products before but never quite loved it. I like all my lip products names to be facing up.

Christine Avatar

Yes, she was great! I was so nervous. We’ve only had him left at home for one or two trips previously, which was years ago, and this is in our new house. In the past, whenever we needed a sitter, my mom/dad would handle it at their house, so it was more familiar.

Katherine T. Avatar

Awww, what a beautiful doggie smile πŸ™‚
*Haul – UD Vintage Lipsticks in Pallor ( love! btw, my swatch looks a lot more smooth and even than yours, the purple/gray pigment looks like it’s better mixed in there), Plague (bold and so pretty), and Smog (the surprise hit, a very unique shade). 50% off from Ulta – UD Afterglow Blush in Rapture ( will go well with my moody purple lippies). Sadly Lorac Tinge blush is going to be returned. I got it 50% off at Ulta, but still. It’s so light and sheer, I have to pack on 4 layers to show up on my light/light medium skin, the blush feels powdery and dry, then oxidizes from light peach to a dupe-able pink πŸ™ Will check out the dupes instead.
*Weekend – family birthday dinner, usual chores
*Do I like staycations? We will find out soon! Starting next week, I’m doing a 2 weeks staycation. Will be doing TONS of overdue spring cleaning around the house, purging and re-organizing makeup, then swatchfest at local stores to check out more holiday goodies and new collections.

Katherine T. Avatar

UD Rapture’s an interesting color! It’s a dusty mauve plum, will go really well with the dusty rose/plum shadow and lip colors that are on trend this fall.

Linda Avatar

Mellan, you cutie patootie!

Haul: I outlined my (somewhat over-the-top) foundation quest in the other full coverage thread. πŸ™‚ The end result was bringing home Estee Lauder’s Double Wear and concealer. Super happy.

Becca Rose Quartz highlighter. Does it stay or does it go? It is gorgeous. I haven’t touched it yet because I am really struggling with spending more on yet ANOTHER highlighter.

My first eyelash curler ever! Never, ever owned one. I have super long lashes naturally, and I always would downplay them or I’d look pretty over the top. Age has found a way to make them droop too, I swear. πŸ™‚ The curler helps brings things up and I like the way it looks.

Weekend plans: My birthday was yesterday so my boys and their SOs are coming for brunch tomorrow to celebrate.

Do you like staycations?: Yes and no. I’m a homebody too, but I’d rather jump on a plane to a city like Paris or Lisbon for vacation. I like staycations in the summer when I can hang out of the pool we belong to, socialize, and swim my workouts outdoors. We have such a short summer season here I like staycationing then.

kjh Avatar

By now, hope you have a great birthday brunch with your guys. Must reread the full coverage, bec I didn’t see your comment. Glad double wear is working out.

Nicole Avatar

Lol! Mellan is so adorable. I can imagine your pet sitter said “smile for the camera!”, and then he did.

Haul: I used up my remaining birchbox points to get a travel size Caudalie Grape Water face mist. I’ve been wanting to try it forever, but no place I ordered from had it. It’s the best face mist I’ve ever bought. I was moving yesterday (mattresses!) in 90+ degree heat and 70+ percent humidity, sweating like crazy, and every time I use the face mist I felt a million times better. From Beautyhabit I got the Chantecaille Protect the Lions palette, the Histoires de Parfums Discovery Set and the Penhaligon Mixed Scent Library Sampler. I have not had a chance to test out the perfumes yet (just got my beautyhabit order in yesterday) but I did play with the palette last night and it’s lovely. My favorite shades so far are actually Sand and Rock, but we’ll see if that holds true in daylight.

Weekend plans: Organizing, more moving, resting on Saturday I think. This move is kind of ridiculous. It feels like it’s never-ending. I’m only taking a few, pretty small pieces of furniture, so it wasn’t worth the cost to get a uhaul, but since I didn’t everything has to be packed into my vehicle or my mom’s truck and driven to her house. Two hours each way and I think Sunday will be my 8th or 9th trip so far? Granted, I think that should be my second to last trip for personal/kitchen/etc items. After that I need to get my washer and dryer and then hopefully I can sell what I don’t want to take. Still, had I realized it would take this much time and this many trips, I would have paid the money for the uhaul.

Do you like staycations?: Not at the moment, but that’s probably because I’ve felt trapped inside all summer. I can see myself enjoying them in the future though. When I’m back in a climate that has snow, maybe.

Nicole Avatar

I think it’s mostly the feel. The spray is really fine and you can hold the nozzle down and it’ll keep spraying, so you can make it very even over your face. It feels really refreshing and cooling on the skin, although not cold like if it was minty. It leaves a light layer of oil/moisture on my skin, but not so much that I feel it. And it’s actually scentless, which I love. The spray I was using before was Mario Badescu’s, and although I’m not usually sensitive to scent and really I liked the scent of the spray, I didn’t love it all over my face.

Thank you so much! It is. I can’t wait until it’s over.

Deborah S. Avatar

I am so envious that you picked up the Chantecaille Protect the Lions palette. I have had my eye on it for awhile and just haven’t been able to make myself pull the trigger. I also love the Gardenia palette. I purchased the Save the Wolves palette and really like the shadows. Please let me know how you like them. If they are nice and blend well I may have to take the plunge, LOL.

Nicole Avatar

I know what you mean! I thought about getting it for a month before I actually did. The Gardenia palette is gorgeous. That’s one I’ve been thinking about for a while but still haven’t got. That’s good to know! The Save the Wolves palette is on my list too, lol. I think all of Chantecaille’s palettes are stunning, really.

I do think that the shadows in the Protect the Lions palette blend very well. They’re really beautiful. The only thing I would say against them (it really could be a benefit or a deficit depending on what you like) is that when you don’t use a base they apply quite sheer, at least imo. I’ve used the palette once without a base and once with (MAC paint pot in Soft Ochre), and when I used it without a base the shadows really emphasized my eyes and made them look bigger and better defined, but while you could see color it wasn’t center stage at all. When I used them with a base I got significantly better color payoff from all the shadows. In either case the overall look is very earthy and natural. I have to say, I love the color combination. The cool and warm colors together really take it to a different level.

If you end up getting it I hope you love it!

Haul: Urban Decay Vice lipstick in Afterdark, it is so pretty!
Weekend Plans: Just lots of work
Staycations: I’m not a huge fan of them, I agree, they aren’t as relaxing. My favorite thing is a weekend trip to some place only an hour or two away.

Tammy Avatar

Haul: Mostly Ulta this week. I got UD Afterglow blushes in Bang, Crush and Quiver; four Clarisonic brush heads; and bareMineral glosses in Risk Taker, Rule Breaker, Maverick, and Dare Devil. I also picked up Cover FX Custom Enhancer Drops in Sunset. I thought I would not like them but I actually love them. One drop in my moisturizer or foundation adds a lovely tan look (I’m already tan, so it’s just complementary). I gave it the 12 hour day plus gym test yesterday and it held up to the punishment. I actually like that there is no shimmer and it seems to help my foundation set better.

Plans: Not really plans, exactly, but my daughter will announce her pregnancy tomorrow so Temptalia readers get to hear the news first. She waited 12 weeks this time, as her last pregnancy ended in miscarriage in the 9th week. Looks like my third grandchild is on the way!

I love staycations for getting stuff done around the house. Sometimes I can even relax!

Stephanie Avatar

Haul: UD blushes in Score and Bittersweet on Saturday when they were on sale at Ulta. Half price UD blush is an exception to my no buy!

Weekend plans: The kids and I are getting out of town and spending some time with my parents, my grandma (who we haven’t seen in a year!), and my brother.

Staycations: I like any kind of “cations”.

Stephanie Avatar

I’m really enjoying those blushes. Score is a perfect everyday subtle shimmery shade and, well, Bittersweet is everything (that’s what I’m wearing on the new avatar). My only regret is not getting Bang. I don’t have any blush quite like it and I’ve been gravitating toward orangy and orangy-red shades lately when I’m not obsessing over burgundies, purples, or reds.

Mariella Avatar

Haul: Nothing! I nearly bought the new Buxom eyeshadows (they FINALLY arrived at Sephora); swatched ’em and then thought “nah” a day or 2 later, I thought about it and realized there are at least 3 that I really, really like but I need to find 3 others to make up 6 as it’s the most economical way to buy them AND get the empty palette. Thing is, I’ve got so many of the “old” shades – it’s hard to find enough to make up 6.
Weekend plans: gym tomorrow, wedding on Sunday
Staycations: Love ’em (love to travel too but love a “staycay”.

Ginny Avatar

HAUL: Kat von D foundation in Light 41. It’s very light. A tad too light for me and I’m super pale. Maybe I should have gone for Light 42? Light 42 always seemed pinky-toned to me, and I need something more yellowy. They’re both described as neutral. Light 41 doesn’t have that peachy tone that makes really pale skin look orange. It actually has a grayish-beige tone. Which is probably good for that ultra pale complexion that almost appears to have a blue undertone.

It feels a bit heavy because I have only been wearing sheer powders for the last few months. But it actually has a nice satin finish. I don’t find it matte. I’m going to try mixing it with some of my “too dark” foundations. I find that those white mixers (I’ve tried several) just dumb down the richness of the color and make it chalky, so hopefully this is a better mixer.

WEEKEND: All I can think about is getting my haircut tomorrow lol. Can’t wait.

STAYCATIONS?: If I take days off at work I need them to feel purposeful, i.e. an actual trip or a day jam packed with errands. Otherwise I feel guilty “wasting” the day goofing off. Sunday is my “ain’t doin’ a darn thing” day.

Ginny Avatar

I did put my MAC MSF over it, which is darker, and then some bronzer. It’s still a bit light but I’m liking how it’s looking throughout the day. I never do this much base work, I look so sculpted and glowy lol. So I think it will be a versatile product to have, when I want to go full glam.

Katherine T. Avatar

Michele, I have Maybelline Loaded Bolds in Smoking Red, it’s a bold matte burgundy red on me, and leaves a stain behind. I also have Mauve It. It’s a lot pinker on Christine, but on me it’s very pretty dusty mauve rose shade (soft matte), kind of a Kylie Jenner type lip color, will be on trend for fall. Think you might like that one. The pigment and wear for both is outstanding, but I don’t find them as hydrating as other lipsticks, so I usually add a touch of lip balm.

Michele @Binxcat4ever Avatar

Thanks The Makeup Train and Katherine! I checked out the shades online. I think Smoking Red is a dupe for at least one of the last 10 (yikes) red-toned lippies I bought. The mauve is really pretty but I also have a few very similar. I’ve saved Raging Raisin to my cart and will probably buy it next time I place an Ulta or Walgreens order.

kjh Avatar

C reviewed many well. I really like the 4 I got…and I don’t usually do maybelline. Smoking Red and Gone Greige are my faves, with a Raging Raisin and Coffeee Addiction running close behind. They are in an old Tarte reusable woven zip case with new UD; they’re just as good and see a lot of use.

Smashbox Legendary lipsticks in Honey and Chai (both Creams on line)
no plans for weekend
I love being at home with the boys!
xoxo for the always handsome Mellan. Have a great weekend Christine.

ouineque Avatar

Today I got both my set of skincare from the Ordinary (the brand Wayne Goss raved about) and my Color Wheel from Tarte. I was so happy! I will try out the different serums the coming time, didn’t touch the blushes yet, hahaha! I don’t know why… Usually I start swatching right away.
This weekend the usual: writing, reading, cleaning. But the weather report is good so I probably spend some time outside as well. πŸ™‚
Staycation, I didn’t even know the word! I have the same Christine: at home everything is mixed up. Even if I am not working, I feel like I should do something, or I think about things to do (today I remembered I have to fill in some taxes stuff…. After the weekend. πŸ™‚ ).

ouineque Avatar

I got the Vitamin C-suspension, the Lactic Acid 5%, the Hyaluronic Acid 2%, the Advanced Retinoid 2%, the Cold Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil and: ‘The Buffet’ (a serum with loads of peptides – I thought it would be nice to take with me if I travel, just one serum that does it all). All this for about 50 pounds.
Untill now I tried the Vitamin-C serum, but I am not sure if I really like it: it leaves a nice almost tacky layer on the skin but it also seems to exagerate the structure of my skin (pores that didn’t bother me al of sudden seem to show up), so I think I will use this one up on my decolletΓ©. Last night I put on the Lactic Acid with a cream (because they mention it can irritate the skin and you can dilute the serum) and this does what it’s supposed to do: my skin looked refreshed this morning and felt really soft. I don’t think I need to dilute it actually.
I do feel very sophisticated now with my little white boxes with small bottles with droppers in my tiny bathroom. πŸ™‚

Lulle Avatar

Haul: a new Chanel Rouge Allure Ink liquid matte lipstick (l’Amoureux), the Stila Perfect Me, Perfect Hue palette in Light (Ulta event) and dr Brandt vitamin C serum (also on sale at Ulta). ANNNND I ordered the limited edition Holiday Meteorites by Guerlain last night, so excited!

Weekend plans: this weekend the Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in San Diego, the site of the original Top Gun program, has their annual airshow and we’ll finally go for the first time! I actually work right next to the base so we saw, mostly heard in fact, the planes “rehearse” for the past few days.

Do you like staycations: not really, I’d rather travel if both myself and my husband can get some time off!

Lulle Avatar

I have Amoureux, the light beige: I wouldn’t say that it’s fully matte, it’s more of a soft satin finish, but it does get more matte as it wears. It’s very thin and lightweight and incredibly comfortable! I’ll have my first impressions up on my blog by the end of the day.

Erin Avatar

Haul: So much hauling lately! This last haul was MUFE WaterBlend, NARS Blush Palette, and Tatcha Dewy Luminous Skin Mist. I’m planning on a lipstick haul soon as well as a The Ordinary haul. I may also get that Tarte Blush Palette. We’ll see. Then I need to take a break for real. I do have to say I’m pissed as hell at Sephora though, this is the millionth time they sent me the wrong samples and the wrong promo code item (2nd time). They really don’t care.

Weekend Plans: I was pretty happy today but one of my co-workers just got shit canned. He’s been with us for 3 years and is a good guy. I was going to go out and get a big sushi dinner and get some Tarjay hauling on but now I’m scared shitless that there will be more firings(I’m new-ish still which is always precarious). We’re in different departments and I know I bring value but still. Other than that, food shopping and games on Sunday.

Linda Avatar

May you stay safe and sound in the job. That feeling is the WORST. I will say, though, my husband is looking to make a change and there is plenty coming at him in terms of opportunity.

Michele @Binxcat4ever Avatar

Nice haul! Yeah Sephora is really slipping. I’ve had shipping and packaging issues recently that i never had before. I hope they can resolve it for you.
UGH – the feeling is the worst. Still, Tarjay’s got some good stuff on their racks for the holidays maybe something fun for $3 is just the cure to feel better?

Katherine T. Avatar

Erin, hope your job is safe, but I’m sure the uncertainty is very stressful. Can you let me know how you like the Tatcha face mist? I’ve been eyeing it for a while, curious about it, hoping it will help my dry skin in the fall/winter.

Erin Avatar

As for the Tatcha, it’s very nice. I just found out though it has silicone in it after being told it doesn’t when I was in Sephora. It works really well under makeup. I’m basically used it twice as a primer. I’m pretty sensitive to cones so I’m hoping it won’t break me out! If you aren’t I recommend it. Not as your only moisture, but as makeup prep or a pick me up.

Katherine T. Avatar

Thanks for the feedback Erin! I’m ok with silicones, as long as it doesn’t feel super heavy, and since it’s a mist, I’m sure it will be fine. I know it’s pretty pricey, but if it has multiple uses (moisture, primer, mist), then will be worth it. I’m still finishing up other facial mists, but if there’s a good sale/promo/value kit, will go for it. I hope it works out for you, fingers crossed no breakouts. Thanks !

Linda Avatar

Hi Katherine,

I have had the Tatcha mist for a very long time. That bottle seems to be the never-ending-gob-stopper of mists. πŸ™‚

Really, the truth is I use it pretty much only when I look dry. It will absolutely dew you up. Usually my MUFE mist/fix is enough, but when that powdery dry look takes how I reach for the Tatcha, and it usually does the trick.

If I ever run out of it, I will search for a cheaper dupe. I bet there are things out there that can accomplish the same for a lot less. My two cents. I like it, but won’t repurchase unless I have to.

kjh Avatar

Girl, you really need to start checking your ingredients. If they don’t have it on the Sephora site (should you still stand them) use the brand site or cosdna. Silicones are easy to spot. I dislike the feel, in general. But in case you didn’t read my comment on water blend… It contains Benzyl Salycilate, which is a known immune toxicant and disrupter. It may not be a prob for you. I have minor immune issues, but I really liked the look and feel of waterblend. So I got a large (self made ) sample, bec I needed something darker for my reunion…I’m tanner than my usuals. Long story short, I missed night one and was gone from home for only three hours with the mufe water blend on. It looked FAB, seriously. When I took it off, it looked like I have Rosacea. Still does hours later, even after double cleanse and snail. And I have only minimal immune issues. I knew better than to buy it, but am still disappointed. I never thought short wear would make me look inflamed. Good thing I saved some Paula long name. Idk if there are any claims to self adjust, but that Paula usually works for me, no matter what depth my skin is. I KNOW that ingredient was the problem. Once you start to research big time, you will never go back, and you are much less likely to get a problem product. Unsuitable, sure, but problem, no.
Hope the job issue blows over soon. I went through that a few years ago…was set up, fired, and replaced by 3 FTEs. They were canning the older workers in all disciplines and replacing them with new grads. Never would have happened, if I had been married to a lawyer. It’s really scary. Hope you feel safe soon.

ouineque Avatar

They’d better not fire you Erin! Grmpf! Nice that you are getting so much new stuff. I also got the blush color wheel from Tarte… Actually I got two, because of the otherwhise expensive shipping and taxes. Trying to sell one, but until now, no luck.

Bonnie Avatar

SAME about the Sephora samples and GWPs!!!!! I swear every single time I order they send me different samples than what I picked out. I feel like calling them up just to yell “why do you give choices if you NEVER honor them?!!!” Ugh.

NancyM Avatar

Same here with Sephora shipments. I’ve been getting all kinds of men’s cologne samples that I didn’t request, and my hubby won’t wear cologne of any kind. I called the rouge number to complain and got basically nowhere. They will give you a few points for your trouble if you specifically ask for them, however.

Nancy T Avatar

Aww, such a happy pooch! Hug him just a little bit longer when you see Mellan again….I wish I had held my Pookie more and longer last weekend. She went rapidly downhill beginning Saturday night. Very early Wednesday morning, Pookie passed away in my arms. Sadness doesn’t even begin to cover it. ?

Haul: Last Saturday afternoon, I did buy UD Bittersweet Afterglow blush, BOGO Opi nail polish in Squeaker Of The House and Go With The Lava Flow. Walked over to Sephora JCP, and got UD Disturbed lipstick and Blackmail lip pencil, they gave me a makeup bag with a bunch of samples. Wish I had just gone home right after Ulta, though.

Weekend plans: Hair, finish up my Mani, toes are done already, was too low to finish everything yesterday. Btw, Opi Squeaker is fugly as heck, I thought it would be a nice greige, it is a dull poop color, though. I *wish* I could go back to last Saturday, and just get Bittersweet, and immediately return home! Meeting on Sunday.

Do you like staycations: Sometimes it’s tempting to go stay at one of the nice resort hotels here, and just go swimming and chill. But I’d much rather go on a full-out vacation. Especially to go for a visit back home to NJ and NYC.

Nancy T Avatar

Thank you, Christine. Pookie was honestly the sweetest cat I ever had. 12 years didn’t seem long enough at all, feels like she and I got ripped off because of her having contracted FIV either in utero or while she was a semi-feral kitten before we took her in. Her previous “owners” severely neglected Pookie, her littermate Phoebe and their momma cat Pinky. 3 adorable sweet black cats who deserved better. Pookie was able to become a true companion animal, whereas her sister Phoebe was far too untameable and more feral. I wish there was a cure for FIV! And all similar diseases. In the meantime, I miss my Pooh Bear like crazy!

She was. But I also feel so very blessed to have loved and been loved by this sweet angel. She was SO dog like in her personality, very loyal and super affectionate! She used to stand up and put her front paws up on my shoulder when she wanted to be picked up, no other cat I ever had has done that! She could bring a smile to my face even on the darkest of days.

How heartbreaking. We lost the most perfect cat a few years ago and it broke my heart to let him go. My heart goes out to you. Pookie obviously found a loving, caring and compassionate home with you. Condolences, Nancy, to you and all who loved Pookie.

Pets are our lives esp when we (are ? fortunate enough not to) have human relatives. Truly sorry. Crossed the rainbow bridge with 3 dogs in 18 months. I feel your pain.

Katherine T. Avatar

Nancy, I’m so sorry to hear about Pookie πŸ™ Bless you for taking on a furbaby with special needs. You delivered the love and care in spades, and she returned in kind. She would never have made it to 12 years without you, I hope you can take some comfort in that.

Nancy T Avatar

Thank you, Katherine T., I do. Even though 12 years flew by in the wink of an eye. We didn’t even know she was infected with FIV for her first 8 1/2 years; Pookie was the picture of *seemingly* perfect health all the way up to that first bout of illness 4 years ago. She loved to chase me around! And be chased back, LoL! So much more like one might expect of a dog, not a cat! I posted a few good pics of Pookie in Temptalia’s Pets as a tribute to her memory.

Katherine T. Avatar

Is that her sitting in the Sephora box? OMG, that is too cute! What a sweet, beautiful-looking baby. I’m so sorry she’s gone. We lost our family dog when he was only 8 years old to cancer. My only comfort is that he went very fast and didn’t suffer much, and he had a very good life. He loved cats, I can see him trying to make friends with Pookie πŸ™‚

Linda Avatar

Oh dear, Nancy, so sorry to hear that. The death of a pet rips your heart out in a way that is indescribable. Being with her in those last moments was a great gift to her. Hugs. I can feel that pain across the miles.

Haul: Notoriously Morbid Vanishing Cabinet subscription box. MAC Galaxy Grey liptensity lipstick, Highly Illogical face powder, and Enterprise nail polish.

Weekend Plans: We’re having our second annual Crown Jewels party tomorrow night. Everyone brings a super rare high end bomber (22oz bottle) of beer and we share them. My husband hand acid-etches a 3 oz snifter for each person and we have super fancy snacks and a bonfire. Oh and this week we’re finally getting our dead tree removed!

Do you like staycations? Not really. I love travelling. I only ever worked part time at the college so I’m home a lot, and when I’m home I tend to be cleaning or working on art while watching netflix. It’s really hard for me to do nothing haha.

Hello, Mellan!

Haul: Bobbi Brown Retouching Wand, VBxEsteeLauder Modern Mercury and eye foils. (Am returning the eye foils for the eyeshadow palette. Scarlet, would like to connect with you.) I finally have the previously-ordered Chanel Emprente Du Desert and Sable eyeliner in my hot little hands!

Weekend Plans: I’ve had a really bad cough that turned into the flu this week, so resting this weekend and hoping I can quell this cough enough to attend a special performance of the symphony this weekend.

Happy weekend, everyone!

Forgot Staycation – I do like them if we do activites that we normal don’t get to do or if we explore the area beyond our routine activities. Rarely do I enjoy staying in the house as part of a staycation.

Haul: IMATS Toronto ticket (I’m so SO excited!! I have a wishlist all ready πŸ˜› ) my first Urban Decay Vice lipstick (in Crisis) rapspberry bombshell lip tint from LUSH, three fall/Halloween bath bombs from LUSH, and a bottle of silky underwear powder from LUSH as well!! Pretty good haul this week!

Weekend plans: I’m going to my grandmother’s house, and we are going to be sorting through my recently passed away grandfather’s clothing.

Do I like staycations: Im not sure!! I love staying in hotels, and I get to do that through work, often. And that’s a lot of fun!! But staying at home in the bath with some candles can be very fun too!

Haul: Too much; totally broke my low-buy. I regret nothing! Urban Decay: Both Vice Lipstick palettes, Seismic Vice Lipstick, Vintage lipstick in UV-B, and Vintage eye shadow in Gash. Tarte Amazonian Blush Color Wheel. I used a MAC gift card to get Lightly Charred, Dew, and Lavender Jade lipsticks. Two small silver glitter Zpalettes. Wet n Wild: Some Halloween stuff and a couple of their eyshadow brushes to try. September Notoriously Morbid subscription box: Eyeshadows in beautiful lavender-taupe; a lighter silvery lavender-taupe, and a gorgeous reddish brown, and a pretty lipstick topcoat. I also got a really cute The NightMare Before Christmas sweater with an asymmetrical hem and black net ruffles on the bottom. It has Jack & Sally on front and says, “Meant to Be” on the back. It’s just too freaking adorable.

Weekend plans: Cleaning house. The facebook friend who had to cancel last weekend is supposed to come up to my place next week. Fingers crossed. lol

Do you like staycations? Not really. I’d rather travel and see new things.

kjh Avatar

Think I would like that NM box. I’ve been good on Vice; only got Sesmic and Oblivion so far, but am prob in on at least one palette. Seismic is more unique than it looks.

How cute Mellan looks!
Haui: I have not bought anything. But I am looking for a compact powder to replace my Guerlain powder that seems to be discountinued. This is difficult. It has to be a powder that comes with a puff because the powder is going in my purse to use on the go. I know you can buy puffs but I have found that if a powder comes without a puff then a puff might not pick up the powder so well. Will look at Chanel next week to see what their powders are like.
Weekend plans: Just some writing and then playing computer games.
Staycations? LOL this will be the most boring post I have ever written. I don’t even know what that is. Maybe does not exist where I live.

Haul: I really didn’t buy much this week, at least in comparison to my usual shopping. I placed one order with Style Korea for quite a few items. I have been using Asian cushion foundations and really like them so decided to try a few other things based on a You Tube video of someone that I really trust her opinion so I picked up most of the Heimlish makeup line and a couple of cleansers. I got the All Clean Balm, the All Clean White Clay Foaming cleanser and the Artless Glow Base with SPF 50+++. For makeup I picked up the Dailism Smudge Stop Eye Liner in both black and brown (pretty impressive as she put them on her hand and then put it under running water with cleanser and tried to scrub them off and they didn’t budge so anxious to see if they will wear well for me on my oily lids), the Dailism Graduation Cushion Tint in Geranium, The Dailism Blusher palette in Rose Petal and two of the eye palettes in Lovesome Brink and the grey one which I cannot remember the name of. From 3CE I purchased a matte lipstick in the color Warm and Sweet. It is sort of a “pumpkinny” color and not something I would normally choose but it was calling my name so thought I would give it a try. It is my understanding that a lot of Korean lip products leave a lovely stain behind as they wear off and so I am hoping it will do that for me.
Weekend Plans: Continue to haul things into storage so that I can begin house renovation.
Do I like Stacations: I tend to use them for heavy duty house cleaning, etc. so while I find them productive I can’t say I really love them. I do love to travel though!

Claire L Avatar

Haul: I got the Modern Mercury highlighter from Estee Lauder as you already know lol! I was good this week and only got skincare. From Naturisimo I got: Pai Calm Skin mini set, Weleda Skin Food, John Masters Organics samples, Nourish 5 sample set, Aromatherapy Associates shower oil sample, free deluxe Tata Harper cleansing oil. Love Naturisimo!

From Birchbox using 100 points for Β£10 off and a 15% off voucher code: Sarah Chapman skincare trial set

Plans for weekend: We went to a local carvery for dinner tonight as neither of us could be bothered to cook lol. Our daughter loves it as do I! My fiancΓ© prefers Eastern food, his dad is from Iran. Tomorrow we are going to look at a house for rent but it’s in the next county so it’ll be a big move for us if we do decide to go for it. We are hoping to find somewhere more local but it’s more expensive. We’ll see anyway.

Do I like staycations? I too am a real homebody but I also love to travel. I hate all the fuss and prepping but once I’m there I love it. I can switch off and just enjoy being somewhere new and seeing and doing new things, as long as I have everything I need with me. So I think I prefer to go away.

What a darling photograph of Mellon! I could imagine him thinking it was a real doggie when he was little. He would probably bark at the statue and want it to play with him.
Haul: nothing much at the moment. I am patiently? waiting for Sephora to open up at a shopping centre near to my home in about a month’s time.
Weekend plans: My youngest son (father of my two grandchildren) has bought a new family car, so we will have a drive in it. Olivia had to say “goodbye” to the old car and to her spot in it yesterday morning. So cute. Otherwise it is shopping, laundry and having everyone over for dinner on Sunday.
Like Staycations: Definitely – Australia is such a big country (like the US) and so diverse that it is great to explore it. When our children were younger we would often have staycations during the school holidays and go out everyday to explore our city and attractions around it like zoos, museums, parks etc. It was a good alternative to an expensive holiday.

Genevieve Avatar

A bit of both Christine. Sephora Australia has a really limited range online. Most of the products they sell in the shop you can’t get them online. I do prefer to have a look and swatch myself. It is also nice to browse too.

Haul: UD vice lipstick in cruz, rimmel 25hr foundation, covergirl outlast primer, covergirl ready, set gorgeous foundation, maybelline better skin powder. Also hoping to snag the tarte lights, camera lashes mascara tonight! Lusting after the new clinique cheek pop in pink honey, charolette tilbury lipstick in coachella coral, and ofras santa ana!

Weekend plans: homework, homework and more homework! Such is the life of a college student πŸ™‚

Do you like staycations: I prefer to travel!

Things I have picked up in the last couple of weeks (makeup list only not even mentioning skincare) … most of them are still in transit:

1) Becca Champagne Splits in Prosecco/Pamplemousse and Champagne/flowerchild.
2) Sigma 3DHD Kabuki brush
3) Two of the Tarte Colour Wheel blush palettes; one of them is a gift for my sister
4) IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream SPF 50+
5) Nude by Nature (it is a local Aussie brand) Mineral Veil setting powder (thinking of trying to bake my concealer)
6) Nude by Nature buffing brush
7) BareMinerals Invisible Light Translucent Powder Duo
8) Becca Glow on the Go in Opal; love minis in highlighters cuz I can’t finish a full sized product ever
9) Jouer Lip Topper in Skinny Dip

What I’m drooling on:
1) Victoria Beckham x Estee Lauder Eyeshadow Palette and Highlighter. They release here on 1st October so will wait to swatch before buying
2) UD Vice Blackmail lipstick palette
3) Making a list of what I want to get from IMATS Sydney happening in about two months

(oh god I think I have a problem)

Weekend Plans: Probably going out with the husband cuz he is usually very busy over the workweek

Staycations: I loved them when I had a full time job because I was often too tired to plan travel pack etc but now that I’m temporarily unemployed I miss vacations

Wajiha Avatar

Oh and in the ‘maybe’ list mac’s Shadow x 9 Smoky Metallics just made it’s way to ‘goodbyes’ discount and I’m just wondering if I should get it.

Wajiha Avatar

I feel the champagne splits are more useable than the full palette (which I was on the fence about and then it sold out) and when I swatched them in store they just felt nicer on the skin (maybe I’m imagining things but I think compacts are creamier than the full palette?). I don’t have either champagne pop or prosecco pop or any becca blushes before and I’m not inclined to buy them in full size because I will never use so much product, so that is checked off on my buy list. I ordered them from the UK so they ended up cheaper too (with free shipping) because everything here in Australia is overpriced. By the way, do you think Amaretto is dupeable with Estee Lauder Lover’s Blush?

Thanks πŸ™‚ we just ended up netflixing on the couch but it’s cool. And ditto on the job it is a little stressful not having one and it also dictates how much money I spend on anything.

Hi, mum! Miss ya, but I’m having a good time. You sure know how to pick a sitter.
Haul: been good. Picked up an iredale powder foundation refill in the shade I normally wore in summer. Like everything, too light, but it’ll be fine as the tan fades. So I got a waterblend sample. Plans: 50 th hs reunion. Too bad I was too late, we old farts must quit early. Everybody was gone by 8:30. It was supposed to go until 11:30! One of my old bffs was staying at the hotel, so I visited with her and her bf. Known her 55 years now. Too bad I didn’t see anyone else…a lot of my elementary folks are registered. Bec my m/u looked great, and I prob outshone many of the attendees. My friend says everyone looked old. Well, hell, we are. There’s always tomorrow night. I tried tomorrow’s m/u look (minus the mufe found) at day job today. IF YOU HAVE IMMUNE PROBLEMS AND ARE THINKING ABOUT WATERBLEND, PLEASE READ MY COMMENT UNDER ERIN. Staycation: since I live in a summer vacation seaside town, I am on permanent Staycation. SEMI-retired. Relax a lot. Beach a fair amount. Read. Veg. Cook. Parks with fog. Since I have had 4 dogs for most of the past few decades, I no longer travel. Travelled a fair amount before then, though. I’m a tad leery of it in this post 911 era, tbh.

I’ve bought waaaaayyyyy too much this last week or so, mostly thanks to Ulta’s sales!!
I ordered 7 (yes 7!!!) UD blushes which just came in today!!! So excited as I’ve been wanting to get a few of them forever, but they’ve been on the backburner in favor of new things coming out all the time.. but I went hog wild at the half off sale. I also got 4 Becca blushes a few Lorac blushes and all 4 Lorac highlighters. Lorac eyeliners, a few It Cosmetics brushes and foundation, and the Cargo eyeshadow palette. Ulta had an amazing gift with purchase gift bag this last week too that I just received!
Christine I used your site countless times to check reviews before deciding which stuff to buy or not buy during the sales! Even though I read all these reviews when these products were new, I had to re-check of course to refresh my memory! πŸ˜‰ I passed on the Too Faced lipsticks today bc of their less than stellar reviews from you. That, and I’m not all that impressed with their regular La CrΓ¨me lipsticks that I have.

Today I ordered 6 liquid lipsticks from the indie brand Makeup Monsters during their restock! I have a few already and they are fantastic, truly. Among the best I own. They always sell out of all their shades so fast and it takes them a month to restock them, that’s literally my only complaint.

OMG Mellan looks so cute in this one!

Haul: Nothing, which is good because I’m going to need to buy the KVD Matte/Metal palette when it comes out on Monday!
Weekend plans: Not much. I need to hit up some thrift stores to try and find items for my Halloween costume.
Do you like staycations: YES! I spent quite a few days this summer in my PJs watching Bravo. πŸ™‚ I do enjoy “excursion” vacations much better though. I think it’s fun to plan them and I love seeing new places.
