Like many, I would assume, YouTube videos! Usually, like you said, actual MUA’s. Or even some very skilled vloggers, too. Have also gotten some solid advice and tips from MUA’s at the MAC Store up the street. There are a few there with some fantastic skills and knowledge!

I feel I’m still trying to learn the basics! Especially with eyeshadows. I turn to YouTube, find tutorial with a look I like, and start-stop it on my iPad as I put my makeup on and try and copy and learn. I do that mostly at night or on the weekends if I’m working on something new. I won’t risk a new shadow combo before work.
You should have seen the MESS I made yesterday with some darker shadows! LOL! Definite promise with the look, but I have to fire up the tutorial and try again later.
Know what you mean. All the nars night shadows and most dark DIs turn into blackly, glittery messes. And mud might be the reason I’ve never adored brown. Sometimes overblending with those dark shades can be the culprit. Try feathering just the edges, though I’m no expert. I can eff up a look in no time!
Great tip about feathering the edges of darker shadows! I just got comfortable wearing them in the last year because before I heard about this tip I was over blending way too much and turning the majority of my lids into black holes. I never could understand why people wanted the dark shades in palettes, they were wasted on me until I learned what I was doing wrong!
Definitely YouTube. I love watching makeup artists and influencers show off new trends and techniques. It’s kinda fun lol
Youtube for me too. You don’t have some pushy sales person there trying to convince you that you MUST BUY this particular product right now to achieve this look (and some of the looks – oh, my….great if you’re going for a Mardi Gras look, maybe, but not something that might work for all of us on an every day basis). I love youtube videos, as much for what I want to do as for what I DON’T want to do.
I usually go to Youtube as well. Pixiwoo, Wayne Goss and Lisa Eldridge are my favorites. I used to be in professional theater and learned alot from the MUAs there too. They were usually in a hurry so colors were never talked about but I would watch and learn techniques from them. I also love to go to my favorite Chanel MUA in Orlando. He is great at teaching me some new looks and I support my Chanel addiction through him. LMBO!

I have a pretty huge stash… so lately I’ve been picking something out of it I haven’t used in a while and doing a search to see what others have done with the product..
I also used to go to mac seminars a lot and you can really learn SO MUCH there. I also find when I’ve had makeovers done at the MAC counter they are really good at explaining things or showing different techniques I may not have tried or seen before.
YouTube, especially Lisa Eldridge. Also Wayne Goss and EnKore. They’re all pro MUA’s.

Honestly I don’t try any new techniques. I like watching them on tutorials but it always looks so daunting to do with many steps and so on so I watch and listen then keep my same boring routine LOL. I’ve gotten my makeup done once by a celeb MUA but other than that I’m too much of a germaphobe to let someone else touch my face to even have new techniques tried on me. SMH I’m slowly getting there
LOL I do this too!! Except occasionally I get inspired and try something new. My life changed when I realized I was overblending. Then I started to actually create some decent looks. True about the germo thing. I question the sanitation of the makeup that’s used on everyone. eww
Definitely through Youtube for the inspiration but then it is experimenting on myself to tweak it for what works for me.
Not sure if this is a technique but I have finally mastered the dark circles under my eyes…I hate concealer it makes them look worse but I’ve found a light tapping of COVER/FX ILLUMINATING PRIMER followed by another light tapping of ALGENIST REVEAL COLOR CORRECTING DROPS in PINK does the trick and looks natural no
caking its amazing.
Usually on YouTube, but ALWAYS searching for new tutorials and ask around everywhere. I also took a professional makeup class overseas and will take a mini makeup class at my local ULTA on September 24th…for free 🙂

I love You Tube, in the past everything I learnt from books by noted make up artists, ie Aucoin but lately I’ve been addicted to Lisa Eldridge and Wayne Goss, along with Desi Perkins and Kandee Jonhson for some fun and more extravagant, winged/colourful looks, out of my comfort zone.
I have all of Kevyn Aucoin’s books, I loved him so much. his death was a tragedy to the world of makeup and humankind!
It was,, other than David Bowie, I haven’t been so upset by a celebrity dying. He was such a charming man, and wanted every woman to feel beautiful and confident, and he was so humble. I had my “Making Faces” book signed by him in Toronto, and he had a kind word for everyone waiting for an autograph.
I have daughters in laws that tell me about new things and brushes. I also look for videos and popular makeup on here. i enjoy playing with makeup at Sephora and Ulta. One day I will go in there barefaced and do a total makeover.
I have thought about going into a makeup shop barefaced and having a makeover, but the thought of leaving my house without makeup…yikes!
However it is good to have the MUA use their cleansers to re-do your makeup. Then you can see what their cleansers & moisturisers are like.

YouTube. It’s hard to learn from professional MUAs because you either have to pay for a class or watch a quick demo on IG. Lol. I don’t have time for that. My favorite youtubers explain things and demonstrate techniques quite nicely for FREE!

You tube videos, I follow Kathleen Lights, Emily Noel, really like the elegance with Lisa Eldridge and find Wayne Goss so honest. And some others. My main thing I’d like to learn is the smoky eyes but even after a million videos and trying myself still no clue. I think I’ll make up my own stencil kit for my eyes. Lol! Help! 🙂
I’m not sure I have a favourite way. I enjoy watching some You Tubers, I still go back to basic oldfasioned books, Kevyn Aucoin is still a great inspiration and his books are really good.
Then off course, there’s the trial and error way 🙂
Love to watch Monica Blunder and Lisa Eldridge for technique. They make it look so easy and often include tips I’ve never seen before.
Watch a few tutorials on YouTube, then start practicing on my face. With some techniques I like to get a few viewpoints on how to apply them to my real life.

Just recently found You Tube videos and watch some of them. Learn from watching others apply makeup in stores. Watched in theaters back stage. Just attempted to decipher from close ups of finished eyes in particular to see placebo of colors. Followed written and pictorial tutorials. Also just playing. Anyway I can learn.

Well, in the *old days* (hey, I’m almost 60), it would have been through articles in magazines, playing around on my own, and talking to MUA’s at various counters. Now though, it’s definitely YouTube 🙂 What a wonderful resource it is! And quite entertaining as well. It would be awesome if Christine would do tutorials on YouTube as her makeup here on the blog is always so beautiful! No pressure, Christine lol 😉
YouTube…and my daughter. She’s an artist so she has a knack for combining colors and eyeshadow looks. I copy them but tweak them for my semi hooded lids and the colors that work for me.
