Do you use a toner?
Do you use a toner? Do you think it’s important?
I use it sometimes. I like the way it feels, particularly when I want a really fresh, clean face (like maybe I was outside all day). I’m not sure if it’s 100% must-have. Need to research!

I use witch hazel as my toner, and I do use it everyday, twice a day. Unless my skin feels particular dry, but that’s not often since I have oily skin.
I’ve got oily skin too, Randi, and I HAVE to use toner…I use it twice a day as well.
I use Lush’s Tea Tree Water toner spray morning & night – love it! It leaves my face feeling clean, refreshed & cool so I would definitely say a must have 🙂
Toner is a must for me. I have pores you can take shots out of. Pores really gross me out so I use toner in the morning all the time to minimize my pores and like Christine says it makes me feel really clean too.
hmmm… i use to think it was important- but now, not so much. currently im using shiseido alcohol free softener-very gentle!i guess toners are good if u want a very clean face BUT i mean if you already cleanse ur face very very well- no need to use it…right
i do, i too love the clean feeling. it also helps moisturizer soak into the skin more. i try not to do it too much because it causes my skin to produce more oil cause it sometimes gets too dry, then i start to break out. maybe once a week or once every 2 weeks works wonders.
you’re using too harsh a toner with drying ingredients it sounds like! try one that is alcohol free (must be!) and gives skin light moisture – it will keep you from getting oily b/c your skin will be balanced! I used to have oily skin too, but this helped! look for a toner with ingredietns like hyaluronic acid (sodium hyaluronate), panthenol, gylcerin, chammomile, etc. I think Caudalie makes a toning “lotion” like this and Shiseido makes an alcohol free gentle toner/softener. I’m loving the Renee Rouleau ones..
I have sensitive skin so my skin care is super simple. cleanser at night, moisturizer 2x a day then toner 3-4 times a week. I find that when I skimp on the toner the texture of my skin changes a lot. it tends to get a little rough and patchy but with a toner it is smother.
Every day, twice a day between cleansing and moisturising. Lately I’ve been using Dermalogica’s Multi-Active toner.
I used to use toner because someone told me I was supposed to but I found I was happier with my skin after I stopped. I’ve heard different things about it. Someone said you need it to balance the ph of your skin and someone else said you should use it after cleansing to make sure you got everything. I would be interested to know what purpose it serves.
Toner is a must have for me. I use it twice a day between cleansing and moisturizing. I use a cotton pad which helps get that last bit of makeup off. I am prone to breakouts and toner helps my skin stay clear and clean!
I thought toner is supposed to be one of the most important facial routine..It balances the oil distribution on skin, removes any left over debris and some of them even have essence-like property.
I don’t use one, and I have been told it is not necessary, although it totally depends on your skin type, your skin concerns, and the product line you use. I think the whole toner revolution started with Clinique when they introduced their 3-step system, and this has done a lot to enforce the perceived need for it in a beauty routine, but Clinique really is outdated as a skin-care line (they haven’t changed their formula as knowledge of skin has developed), and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. Some of what I would call the more innovative companies have a toner (I think one of the skincare lines for Dermalogica has one), but it is for use with a specific range of products and for a specific concern, and is not needed for everyone.
I always use a toner after I cleanse my face and before I apply my moisturizer. I’ve always thought it was an important step to skin care!
To me it is important, because it cleared my skin up 🙂 Thanks to Clinique, I have almost no issues with my skin any more!
yes i use lavender toner + rose centifolia toner all from durance and 95% natural!
i use elemis toner, just a quick spray and it refreshes me, i also use it as a make up refresher during the day, so def. good.
I have a very sensitive skin, even alchohol-free toners (as Kielhs cucumber toner) tend to irritate my skin. Now I’ve found Micellar cleansers (Micellar water of Roche-Posay above all) and I love it! It’s refreshing, soft and also treats your skin. I recomend it for all skin types, if you have oily skin it can be the last step in your clean routine every day.
I used to think so too earlier. now with years going by and more chemicals I am regular – and I actually like it as I feel light after it! i try and use herbal / natural ones (like Lush, Fab India, Himalaya and Aroma Magic)
I’ve been using Shu Uemura’s toner from their Phyto Black range for a few weeks now. It’s had a good brightening effect and has fruit acid derivatives for a mild exfoliating effect as well. Very happy with the way my skin’s been looking since I started using it.
i use it twice a day.. before moisturizer day and night.. i love it.. refreshing too.. im using ROC toner now..
Yes, every evening. It always gets that last little bit of makeup off!
No, not really. I have an open bottle sitting in my bathroom cabinet and I use it every so often when I remember, but in all fairness, I don’t know if it does anything to my skin. I always wash my face with cleanser and water, so there’s no residue make up or dirt left at the end of the day, and I never have time to bother in the morning, so it’ll take me forever to use up that bottle (it’s big as well).
I use diluted organic apple cider vinegar as my toner! i love how it feels as if it neutralizes my skin- not oily not dry!- has helped with reducing break outs too!= skin looking better!
Dickinson’s Witch hazel
toner is good extra step to be sure to remove all dat thick makeup u used for that day (liquid foundation + setting powder + powder foundation? + blush + highlighter + whatever).
also i think it depends on your cleanser. some cleansers make your skin tight or dry, the toner can help to reduce that feeling. if your cleanser is too rich, then your skin may not need toning.
I do use Toner – was using Estee Lauder’s toner for years, but recently wanted to find a cheaper alternative so I tried L’oreal Hydrafresh and was pleasantly surprised that is as good as the Estee Lauder and I can buy for bottles for the priced of one (large) bottle of the Estee Lauder.
I used toner to remove my makeup in the evening (not eye make up of course). That’s all I use it for.
OMG! Sorry for all the typos. It’s early! LOL
I use toner twice a day and have found it to be an absolute must-have for my sensitive, combination, acne-prone skin. It re-hydrates and balances my skin after cleansing, and closes my pores. I have also found that the added moisture helps my moisturizer spread and absorb more easily.
I make my own toner using a combination of witch hazel, tea tree water, and rose water. I keep it in a little spray bottle I got at the drugstore; I like the way the spritz feels, as opposed to rubbing it on with a cotton ball. My skin really likes this homemade toner, so I will continue to make it unless I come across a pre-made toner that intrigues me and is more effective.
I use Tea Tree Water from Lush, but I use it underneath my moisturizer, I spray my face with the toner and then immediately apply my cream. I use less cream this way, but I still have the moisturizing effect I need.
I use Burts Bees Tomato Toner – I’ve tried functioning without it – but it is just so good at preventing those little bumps from forming underneath my skin. Often when I use it, I find sebum plugs on my cotton pad (gross – I know!) – but I think it is proof that it is good at cleaning my pores!

I always use a toner after I’ve had water on my face, it restores the PH balance to your skin. I only use Elemis Lavendar toner though!
After you wash your face, your skin’s pH balance gets all screwed up which interferes with it’s normal functioning. A toner restores the pH. So even though it seems like a small and insignificant step in your skin care routine, it’s actually very important! (I’m saying it as an aesthetician, not just a smartass haha). So use your toner!
I absolutely swear by Estee Lauder’s Perfectly Clean Fresh Balancing Toner. After cleansing my face a toner helps re-balance the pH on my skin, so for me a toner is a must = )
I do use a toner day and night. At the moment I’m
using Mario Badescu’s special cucumber one which is for acne prone skin. In the past I’ve used Lush’s tea tree toner a couple of Neals Yard toners and the Laura Mercier one. I like using a toner although I’m not really sure what it actually does. I apply it after I cleanse and while it’s still damp on my skin I massage in a small amount of moisturiser. It feels nice and refreshing on my skin when I spray some on throughout the day
pretty much every day – it’s an essential part of my dr hauschka regime: it very lightly moisturises, helping the moisturiser absorb into the skin, and in the evenings, takes the place of moisturiser and allows the skin to perform its metabolic functions.
I use Clinique’s anti-blemish toner :> I love how it leaves my face feeling super clean.
My Murad Acne cleanser is a 2 n 1 it says it has a toner in it as well so if that counts I do use a toner. I used to as a separate step in the past but I got lazy. 😀
I use Neutrogena Visibly Clear Blackhead eliminating toner. I use it twice a day. My skin has become soo much better 🙂 I use the whole set from Neutrogena Visibly Clear Blackhead eliminating. I have struggled to find something that my skin would like and I have finally done that now 🙂
Hugs
I think it is a must. It is my favorite part. It leaves my skin so fresh and clean and it cleans away what the soap left behind.
I always use it right b4 I put on my make up to make sure my skin is perfect for make up application.
I know this is bad, but when I’m in a rush to leave the house I’ll just go over my face with toner, moisturize, and book it to work with my makeup in my purse. I guess it’s better than nothing.
I always use a toner, twice a day, morning & night. I have oily skin, so it’s a must-have for me to unclog my pores and get the extra oil off. If my face is particularly dry, I have a gentler toner.
I don’t think it’s necessarily “important” but I do like using it in the morning to wipe off the night’s sweat and oil instead of washing with soap. But I don’t use it after removing my makeup and washing my face at night, that seems like overkill.
Oh yes it’s a must have because they balance out your pH levels, they leave you feeling fresh, some toners exfoliate, some bring all your acne to the surface, they also seal in your makeup. It’s amazing. I use Dermalogica’s Multi-Active Toner, I’d die with out it (:
I use toner sometimes but not everyday because I feel it is too drying. I like to use toner after I use a mask or a scrub on my face to get the extra off. However, I don’t use it everyday. Dickson’s (popular witch hazel)now makes an actual toner and that is what I use.
I use one every morning and every night. Its a must-have for my acne prone, oily skin and huge pores.
i use dickinson’s witch hazel as my toner, it is the best!
I not only use toner, but it’s one of my holy grail products! I use Kiehl’s Calendula Toner and if you have oily skin or acne, it’ll be your new best friend. It also works on razor burn, cuts, burns or scrapes. Calendula heals all.
yep, i use the clinique 3 step system.
I’ve come to believe a good toner is important. by good toner I mean one that is alcohol free, one that infuses skin with moisture and restores pH balance. Toner gets off any left over cleanser residue or any makeup left. It calms the skin and helps prevent pores from oversecreting oil & getting blocked (b/c it infuses moisture & makes sure skin is balanced, pH is restored etc). it also helps my serums and moisturizers absorb more quickly. I love gentle toners! right now I am using Aveda’s All Sensitive (discontinued) and Renee Rouleau’s Elderberry toner but will buy the Renee Rouleau Moisture Infusion next 🙂
I use Lush’s Tea Tree Water every time I wash my face. I forgot why it’s important (I knew at one point, I swear) but it feels nice so I keep using it!
I like a toner because it cleans off the dirt and debris that’s left even after using a cleanser (if there’s any left). But yea I definitely like using one to feel nice and clean 🙂
I use neutrogena alcohol free toner. Been using it forever I love it
I used to not use it but over the last year, it has become an important step in my skincare routine. I love the extra clean feeling I get. My skin always feels clean & refreshed. It is also nice that it takes off any extra make-up too. I used to one that had way too much alcohol and that was a big mistake! Currently, I use a toner from La Prairie – Age Management Balancer.
I use Tea Tree Water by Lush every day. It’s so refreshing and I love that it doesn’t have alcohol in it!
I just started using a toner again! I am using Dior with lilac crystal…LOVE IT!
I don’t think its really useful n all !
but I love how it feels like !
In summer nights I never moisturize my face ( I have a combination skin and sometimes I get break outs)
so a moisturizing toner works really well for me !
clinique toner. Yes, it’s harsher but I good moisturizer takes care of that for me. No toner = instant break out for me
absolutely! i always use Clinique’s clarifying lotion toner, its great, closes all my pores after cleansing and leaves my face extra clean~
My HG — Biologique Reserche P50. An amazing toner that has really inmproved my skin. I never used toner religiously until a dear friend recommended this product to me. Now I use this every evening. It’s miraculous!
YESS!
I use Shiseido’s Pureness toner everyday after I wash my face. I have dry skin so it definitely helps lock in moisture before applying my moisturizer.
On hot summer days, I’ll apply some toner using a cotton ball to get a cool, refreshed feel :]
I use toner once a day, in the morning to remove oily leftover from my night cream. I use L’Oréal Dermagenesis and it makes my skin look and feel fresh and clean.
Every day, it is a spray from Dr. Hauschka. It is my HG and I rebuy it for five years now. Though it is hella expensive.
It’s an essential part of my skin care routine for me. It makes my pores appear smaller, and it helps balance the pH of the skin after I’ve washed my face. I’m using Aromatherapy Associates Balance Toner atm, and I’m loving it.
I use Clinique clarifying lotion twice a day .
I ALWAYS use a TONER now. I’ve tried to cut it out of my skincare regime but go back to it. No matter how well I think I’ve cleansed my face the toner cleans my skin to another level. The cotton pad always shows residue. I make my own toner with glycolic acid and vitamin E.
