Free for Haul Friday, Volume #350
Share any beauty goodies you may have picked up in the last week or so, or maybe what’s on your way or on your wish list for next week or month. 🙂
- Haul: My Nordstrom Anniversary sale picks came in late yesterday! I also just placed orders at Saks (a few pieces from Dior fall, Cle de Peau fall) and the new MUFE Arist Palette (Vol. 4) – probably will mention those again next week when they actually arrive!
- Weekend plans: Relax, get back into the swing of things! My mom and grandma were visiting earlier this week, so while I was still tending to things on the blog, I did write a lot of posts in advance so I could spend more time with them. It always throws me off a bit to get back to full-time!
- What’s the best part about summer?: Normally, I would say warmer weather, but here it’s warm, warmer, and then surface of the sun during the summer! I think monsoon season is going to be my new favorite thing, because I never saw lightning like I have in Arizona during monsoon season!
Share your pet photos to the Temptalia Pets flickr group! 🙂
Haul:
Beautylish: Brush Guards (2 sets), Make-up Atelier Blush Cream (Natural Rose). I loved how this blush swatched and am excited to test it out this weekend.
Bloomingdale’s: Ouai – Hair Oil, Treatment Masque, and Repairing Shampoo (GWP)
HSN ($10 Off): Smashbox L.A. Lights Blendable Lip & Cheek Color (Echo Park Pink)
Josie Maran (10% Off): Argan Beautiful Eyes (Beautiful Smoke and Beautiful Purples), Bear Naked Nail Wipes (Peppermint – 3)
Josie Maran (20% Off): Whipped Argan Oil Body Butter (Jasmine)
Nordstrom ($10 Off): Lancome Bifacil Anniversary Deal (2), Lancome GWP
Stila (20% Off): Shape & Shade Custom Contour Duo (Light), Shape & Shade Custom Contour Brush
Ulta: Morgan Taylor Nail Polish BOGO 50% (Pop-Arazzi Pose and Shock Therapy), Benefit Anniversary 4 Piece GWP, GLOV On the Go Makeup Remover, Psssst! Dry Oil Finishing Spray (Hoping it’s good. It has good reviews. Hoping it can replace the Serge Normant I’m using), Pacifica Color Quench Lip Tint, Pacifica Glow Baby Glow Facial Scrub, Pacifica Sea Foam Complete Facial
Urban Decay: Vice Lipstick (Venom), Naked Skin Loose Powder (Naked Light), 10 free samples
I’ve been trying to add more “cream” products to my makeup stash. I’m discovering I really like the healthy glow they impart versus many powder products I’ve been using (except of course the outstanding Marc Jacobs blush!) I pulled back bit on makeup/skincare buys this week bc I shopped the Outnet Clearance and bought a pair of Oscar de la Renta pumps, a Zac Posen handbag, and a pair of Superga sneakers; shopped the Barney’s Warehouse Clearance and bought a Milly handbag; and shopped the Nordstrom Sale and bought a pair of Ivanka Trump loafers and a pair of silver earrings.
Weekend plans: Meeting my Mother for breakfast tomorrow morning. Might go check out a new diabetic grocery store that opened. Weekend mani of course. If I get motivated, I might go look for some jeans.
What’s the best part about summer?: The end of it. I dislike Summer. I dislike the heat and humidity. I have disliked “being out in the sun” since I was a child. Before I was a diabetic, I might have at least said Summer fruit. Now, I can’t even eat a good, ripe peach without my blood sugar spiking. I’m just counting the days until the Fall.
Great hauls! Do you like Ouai?
Hope summer speeds by for you, Michele! 🙂
Yes and no on the Ouai. I love the Treatment Masque. It does a good job of repairing and restoring my fine hair without weighing it down. I also like that each treatment comes in a separate packet; makes it easy to use and/or travel. The volumizing shampoo and conditioner do add volume but they also leave my hair slightly dry. The scent is one of those that you either like or hate – fortunately it doesn’t last too long. (So those are a 50/50 rating.) The wave spray does enhance or create waves in my fine hair without leaving it crunchy or sticky. I rarely wear my hair that way though (thumbs up though). I haven’t tried their oil yet (being delivered this evening). Their texturizing hair spray does add volume and help hold the body I add when I curl my hair (thumbs up). I had been testing the Christophe Robin volumizing trio but, wile they smell nice if you like rose, they do very little to add volume. Basically, I am still searching for my new HG shampoo/conditioner/volumizer hair products. I am happy with the Oribe Glaze I purchased so I think “next stop” will be the Oribe line.
Ahh, gotcha! Thank you for the tips 🙂 I have some Ouai products but haven’t tried any yet!
Haul: The new Maybelline Loaded Bolds Lipsticks.
Weekend plans: Printing out portfolio piece and take away pages.
What’s the best part about summer?: I don’t like summer. Other than swimming but i have’t don that in years due to lack of places to swim in my area.
Mellan… “Too lazy to try but I want it.” lol
I used to love summer when I was in school, but now it’s not so exciting, lol.
Yeah, it was also cooler up here when I was a kid, the last decade has really spiked the temperature and the humidex. I feel like a boiled lobster when we fit 80% humidity. lol
Our summers use to be 21-26C range at themost but as soon as it hit 28-38C+ with the humidex ….. OTZ
Any good picks in the Maybelline bolds?
I like the 4 I got. Gone Greige, Coffee Addiction, Raging Raisin, and Smoking Red. Don’t have much Mayb, but these are all good. Check back; think the offbeat colors did not fare as well.
Nice picks! I think I’m going to cross-check my stash for dupes and maybe pick up one or two of those to try. Thank you!
haha he’s got you trained
Haul: getting a few things from the Nordstrom Anniversary sale probably some skincare and I want a new coat and booties
Weekend plans: hoping the weather holds up, heading to a local vineyard tonight and possibly a play. other than. Also thinking about heading to a botanical garden and the container store.
What’s the best part about summer?: That the day time lasts longer.
I love booties! I had to resist getting more, LOL! (Only one pair for me.)
Hi Mellan! You’re so fancy today!
I got a Kevin Aucoin single matte eye shadow in black. Ordered it on Space NK Apothecary for $7, free shipping. Score. I haven’t used it yet. I needed a black shadow and it seemed like a good haul to me.
Got the Guerlain lipstick 65 in Grenade on ebay for $18. I loved it in the store. Now that I have it, meh on me. Glad I did not pay the $54 for it.
Wanted a coral lippie, and got MAC Dozen Carnations with Short and Snappy Plushglass for over. Together–whoa–too darn much. But each on their own work quite nicely.
A Rouge G for $18? WOW!
Weekend — A son home for the night (it was his bday this week, so we’ll take him out). Other than that, not much.
Summer — Living in Boston, and after the past few winters we’ve had, everything is beautiful about summer! No extra layers, swimming outside, long days, work slows down — everything seems so much easier.
Today? Not. 100 degrees, feels like 109 in Hyde park, per s.o.’s phone and 100 at the Fore River Bridge on my way home. That can seem harder than winters. But the winter before last, I could not leave my street for 10 days. But I have the beach just down the hill…. I’ll take it.
Haul: So I broke my July-no buy because I couldn’t resist the Nordstrom anniversary sale…oops! I got the Burberry beauty gift set (3 full size products – highlighter pen, lipstick, and Pale Barley eyeshadow), the Bobbi Brown nude lips on trend set, Drybar beach in a box set (never owned a fancy curling iron before and I like drybar services), Juicy Couture Viva la Juicy fragrance set cause it was a good deal and I always get compliments when I wear this
Weekend plans: hang out with family, no real plans so just take care of things that I’ve been putting off
Best thing about summer? being able to go swimming and the longer days 🙂
Hope you love the Drybar set and that the curling iron works well for you, Jennifer. 🙂
HAUL: I just bought Kiehl’s Amino Acid Shampoo, Amino Acid Conditioner, and Olive Oil Hair Pak (hair mask) from Nordstrom (of course I went for the sale and bought nothing that was actually on sale). I’ve been having a time trying to find the “right” shampoo. I’m trying to go sulfate free or gentle or whatever, because my ends are pretty dry. My scalp gets oily and flaky no matter what kind of shampoo I use. I think I might actually have eczema on my scalp, so gentler is probably better, maybe with a clarifying powerwash (I like Neutrogena Anti-Residue) and the Hair Pak once a month.
I’m also starting a gradual collection of MAC Eye Kohls, so I added Smolder to my order.
WEEKEND: Attending two MLB games (in 90+ degree weather, oof)
BEST PART OF SUMMER: Fresh produce. Don’t want to stand over the oven when it’s above 80 degrees out? Just throw whatever fruits and veggies and cheese you have into a bowl and you have a summer salad for dinner. Throw some meat on the grill if you need. And it only took twenty minutes! Of course this is a northerners POV, where the blueberries and tomatoes taste like sand in the winter. Then one of the best parts of fall is that you’re ready to get back in there and spend an hour on that butternut squash soup.
What are some of your best tips for making a summer salad, Ginny?
Buy a basil plant (like $2) and plant it in a large planter or garden if you have space. A sunny spot, lots of water, it will thrive. Then you can have pesto pasta salad or caprese whenever you want.
Keep your fridge stocked with stuff that will last for more than a week (blueberries, mozzarella for aforementioned caprese, goat cheese crumbles, carrots and nuts add a good crunch). Go weekly for tomatoes and avocados.
To make your salad more filling/dinner appropriate, use brown rice, orzo, or farrow instead of lettuce. Hard boiled eggs will jive with any salad. If you like meat, deli slices go perfectly fine and they’re already cooked. Italian cuts last longer than turkey 🙂
Thank you so much, Ginny! <3
Yeah, butternut soup with darker lipstick on the spoon. Yay, fall.
Lol!
Mac Warm Soul blush, Mac lipstick x1(BTM), UD lipstick in Liar and Ex-Girlfriend.
Relax and go see Ghostbusters.
I do not like summer, too hot in Las Vegas.
xoxo for the handsome Mellan and have a great weekend Christine.
Warm Soul! Yay! 😀
I understand completely about the heat…Las Vegas would be very hot in summer.
Haul: a new bottle of Clarins Super Restorative eye cream and a new skinny brow pencil from Maybelline
Weekend plans: leaving in a few minutes to take older son to airport; rest of the weekend will be trying to beat the heat and praying for RAIN!
Best part about summer: I’m a substitute teacher so I have the summer off; it’s a great time to catch up with friends, visit friends who don’t live really close by, do a bit of travelling, sleep late and hit the gym and yoga studio when I want rather than when I can.
Hope you get the rain you want, Mariella 😉
I am grabbing Clarins’ lip balm and a new quartet (though I am thinking they might just be repackaging their quartets) this week! Clarins always makes me think of you.
On the Canadian website, they no longer show ANY of the eyeshadow quads at all. I love the ones I’ve got and was sad that they seemed to be vanishing. I hope they are coming out with some new ones.
Nordstrom shows three in the new format (all in a row, same size) – and the names sound like repeats from past quartets. Saks only has one of the new ones available (I swear, it’s like someone forgot to input multiple shades, because Cle de Peau’s Liquid Rouge or whatever also shows one shade, despite having multiples), but shows me an old one of Rosewood, while Nordstrom has the new format of Rosewood.
Haul: Nothing really – I stopped in at Sephora last weekend but just got a couple new concealer samples to try and my birthday gift. I actually wanted to ask people’s opinions: is it really necessary to use a setting powder for concealer? I have never done so but reading the reviews of my samples there’s a lot of talk of it. I have dry skin and don’t live in a humid environment so staying matte and keeping makeup from sliding off my face isn’t really one of my major concerns.
Weekend plans: Probably to go back to Sephora and buy the concealer I settle on. Other than that, not much. I had a super busy weekend last weekend and I didn’t really get the time to relax. It’s been a bad week and I am looking forward to relaxing.
Best part about summer: Eating food fresh from my garden! 🙂 Last night’s dinner was pesto made with homegrown basil and a salad with lettuce and tomatoes I grew. It’s great to enjoy the (literal) fruits of my labor!
IMO, like all makeup, you do what works for you – so if you don’t need to set it, don’t set it. People who set their concealer usually do so because it may otherwise crease/gather in fine lines or move around during the day, but if you have no issues not setting, I wouldn’t add it to your routine!
thanks to you and other people who responded! when I was a kid first getting into makeup I was always concerned that I was doing it “wrong”. Even now that I know that makeup is for fun and can be used however you like, I guess I’m still a little afraid that I’m not doing it right!
I never set anything. Never have. I’ve tried it a time or three and it doesn’t seem to make a difference for me. One less step — I’m good with that. 🙂
I really don’t set my concealer with a powder unless I have a ginormous breakout that requires the additional coverage. I do, however, finish my makeup using the UD setting spray. I do live in an area that gets humid and don’t find that powder is necessary. Sometimes adding powder to your concealer will either make it cakey or draw attention to fine lines (if it’s under eye concealer). IMO everyone should do what works for them and their skin tone. No reason you can’t test out your new concealer and see how it does on its own.
Agree with Christine. But, if you have some, try with on one eye, without on the other, at some off time. Based on what you said, certainly would not rush out to buy a setting or finishing powder.
Haul: MAC’s C’est Chic Palette (Nordstoms exclusive). Morphe brushes: M321, M433, M441, and M439. I picked up MAC lipliner in Chestnut (wow, so dark and cool-toned) and new frost lipstick in On and On. I am also excited to be trying a new tanner: I got Tanceuticals and will be giving it a go this coming week. Over the past two years I have been using Tarte’s Brazilliance, St Tropez express dark, and Vita Liberata’s Phenomenial Dark Mousse. I also tried Tan Towels last week but my skin was so dry it was uncomfortable. I want a self tanner that produces a dark tan, is moisturizing, and that I can put on and go to work. So it needs to look ok while its developing.
Weekend plans: Relax
Loved your comments about Arizona lightning! I tell everyone they’ve never seen lightning like the
lightning in AZ!
Best part about summer? EVERYTHING! Heat, fresh fruit and produce, long summer days, sun on my bare shoulders, swimming, vacations, schools out, and some of the most beautiful make up of the year! What’s not to love?
Good luck with your new tanner, Tammy!
I hear it’s been a very quiet monsoon season thus far, so that’s a bummer, haha! But here’s hoping for more activity in the next month 🙂
Yep, he has you well trained 😉
*Haul – MAC C’est Chic Shadow Palette (very good for an all matte palette), Becca Jaclyn Hill Champagne Splits in Pamplemousse/Prosecco (Prosecco is OMG gorgeous!), WNW Megaglo Highlighting Powder in Precious Petals ( backup) and Crown of My Canopy ($4 each- I was one of the fortunate few who got into the WNW website before it sold out again), Benefit Powder Shadow in Call My Bluff ( 50% off at Macy’s)
*Weekend-walk/dinner with friends
*Summer – bbq foods, street festivals, bronzey makeup, skin is less dry
Glad you were able to catch the WNW highlighters during a restock, Katherine! 😀
Yeah, it was crazy. As soon as word got out about the re-stock, it sold out within minutes, then the entire WNW site crashed, and it was down for hours and hours. I got in maybe 3 hours later, expecting everything to be all gone, and lo and behold, they had re-stocked again, so I grabbed them both before they disappeared again. They really need to make them permanent!
Pamplemousse/Prosecco looks so pretty!
I had to buy the Jaclyn Hill Champagne Collection Face Palette because I was in love with Pamplemousse. It also has Prosecco Pop. Love this combo?
Haul: Nothing. I went to Sephora’s website to pick up UD Gwen and UD Spectrum because we finally got my husbands pay situation straight, and boom gone. I was so pissed I didn’t even stay around to get my other stuff. I’m going to sulk.
Weekend: Sulking about UD sellouts on the sale page and hating life in general. I’m so tired and pained I’ll spend the majority of the weekend inside which is not what I want to do. I want to be out enjoying the summer but that isn’t going to happen. Doctors orders.
What’s the best part of summer?: I’m not sure anymore, the last 3 summers I’ve either been ill or unable to walk from an injury. It used to be doing things with my dog, hiking and stuff.
Oh noooo! 🙁 I’m so sorry the products you wanted were gone when you tried to get them!
Erin, illness-related depression is very real. When I was being treated for TMJ (of all things) I actually was screened for depression and doctor told me I was clinically depressed. Anything that physically limits you from being able to do the activities you need to to do and the activities that bring you joy is a serious issue. It sounds like you’ve been dealing with this for YEARS. My heart goes out to you. If I could get those palettes for you, I would.
If you didn’t see, Spectrum is back again (along with the Gwen palette)! I’d had it in my cart for weeks and weeks, waffling on the purchase. I was so sad when it finally said it was out of stock yesterday morning, thinking I had missed it. Then later in the day, I looked again and it was back! I decided not to miss the opportunity this time, even though I reaaallly don’t need it – plus used the rebeleyes code for the UD Fireball which I have been lemming. I hope you snag them if you still want them – I really enjoy my Gwen palette, though of course I wish I’d gotten it during this sale!
Haul: My Korres haul from Hautelook arrived, I am well-stocked now on bath/body, and I got the Wild Rose and Greek Yogurt face creams as well. I ordered a Voluspa candle set from the Nordstrom sale to gift to my MIL (I like to start my Christmas shopping nice and early!).
Weekend plans: Making decisions about home projects, which is really stressful! And hide inside from the ridiculous heat.
What’s the best part about summer?: The warm weather and longer days! And the fact that everything is green – Chicago winters are cold, dark, and gray…
Korres makes some really great skin/body products! What are your faves?
My absolute fave is their Guava Body Butter, the scent reminds me of my honeymoon. ? The Sleeping Facials are also nice!
Oh god, Illinois winters are so depressing. First time I saw my new home state was in February and I cried. Told my husband he was moving without me, I was staying in Phoenix. He freaked, lol.
Ugh- February is THE worst time here. The holidays are over, winter weather is still in full effect, and the snow plow piles have been building and for months and are becoming filthier by the day… can you tell I HATE winter??
Yep, the only good thing about winter is hibernation. I like to stay on the recliner with a fire in the fireplace, Zoe cat on my lap, and a good book in my hands.
Haul: MILK Makeup Holographic Stick, Urban Decay All Nighter Foundation, Lancome Juicy Shakers in Freedom of Peach and Cherry Symphony, Kylie lip glosses in Koko, Candy, and Posie.
Weekend Plans: My fiancé is visiting for the weekend, so we’re scouting some wedding venues and hitting up a wedding expo on Sunday 🙂
Best part about summer?: Pokemon Go, tbh.
How do you like the Kylie glosses?
I actually really like them! They’re thick and opaque (which I like), very faintly scented, they don’t bleed, and they’re not sticky.
Pokemon, Go! Lol! I had to go hunt down my daughter (25) and my granddaughter (11) last weekend because they were out playing Pokemon Go and had been gone for a long time.
Lol! I’ve waited my whole life to be able to tell my mom, “Sorry, I was out catching pokemon” 😀
Haul: I bought Algenist blurring moisturizer with SPF30 when they had a 30% off flash sale last week and it’s supposed to arrive today. That’s it, but I’ll have more stuff next week: I’m going to the MAC Star Trek Comic Con experience today and I’m hoping to buy some products from the collection, plus I got the $10 off coupon from Nordstrom and a coupon for a free eyeshadow at MAC that I want to use.
Weekend plans: relax and try to stay cool! I just started a new job this week so I’ve been a bit stressed, I need to find a routine that I’m comfortable with.
Best of summer: down here in San Diego you just have to go out to the beach after work and it feels like you’re on vacation!
Have fun at Comic Con! 😀
Good luck with the new job! I grew up in Huntington Beach, now stuck in Illinois☹️. You live in paradise!
Haul: Buxom eyeshadows in Glitz Factor, Filthy Rich. NARS concealer in light vanilla (love); NARS gloss in Risky Business; Surratt Beauty blush in La Vie in Rose (lovely); Bobbi Brown shimmer lip in Pure Sparkle; a backup for my MJ highliner in Jazzberry.
Weekend: Aside from usual errands and pilates, since I’ve been traveling over last couple of weekends and more is ahead it’s a “tops and trash” weekend — doing more than tidying and less than deep cleaning. Not glamorous but sure to be a relief. Also organizing clothes for upcoming consignment shop appointment.
Summer: Since half our team is in Europe, where long summer vacations are standard, it’s relatively less intense time at work. However, I don’t myself like to vacation in the summer and I live in the South where summers are really hot and humid, so other than ease at the office, I’m not a particular summer person.
Surratt’s blushes are soooo soft and lovely!
•Haul: I stopped at Nordstrom last night and stumbled upon the Chanel Fall collection… Needless to say, I bought the quad, blush, the two eyeliners, and the two cream eyeshadows. I tried on the fall beige lipstick and didn’t like it so much in store but liked it a lot once I got outside and saw it in sunlight. I might go back during my lunch today and pick up the lipstick.
•Weekend plans: Relax and start working on decluttering my bedroom and closet. We are about to start replacing the carpeting in my bedroom with tile so the room needs to be completely emptied. This is the perfect time go through and get rid of a bunch of stuff. Oh, and I’m battling war with the ants in my back yard.
•What’s the best part about summer? Welcome to Arizona (Phoenix)! Is this your first full summer here? It’s been hot as hell which is why I hibernate indoors. (Today and tomorrow’s highs are 115) One of my favorite things about summer is the monsoon season because in PHX we have such beautiful lightning shows. I could do without the dust storms though.
Nice! The quad looks really pretty from Chanel’s fall collection.
Yes, it’s my first summer here! We moved here last October, but we were here for two trips in July/August just prior to the move. I’ve also been here four times previously in the summer (we spent almost three years looking, lol). So funny — a day or two after we moved in, we had DirecTV installing and we all got alerts on our phone about a dust storm. I don’t think I’ve ever received a weather alert via my cell before, and now it’s pretty routine here!
Ok, looks like I need to stay farrr away from the Chanel counter LOL Can you let me know how you like the new eyeliners in Agape and Eros? I know Christine won’t review them because the Stylo formula bothers her eyes. And are they as described, a plum and deep plum?
Until I started reading Temptalia, I had never heard of monsoon season in Arizona! Does it really get that rainy? I thought monsoons only happened on the other side of the world, lol!
Haul: Charlotte Tilbury’s Instant Look palette. Stayed up for the start of the public sale just to grab this palette.
Bummed that SpaceNK could not fulfill the Kevin Auction look in a palette I reported last week, but happy to try out the loose shimmer shadow roller ($7).
Weekend: Staying out of the heat & humidity.
Summer: I love the fresh food and frequenting Farmers markets, sitting on patios, hanging out near a lake and enjoying the outdoors. My most favorite thing is going home to help plant flowers, visit favorite places, having people pop in, enjoying dry heat, and spending time with my mom. Anytime I can escape the crushing Midwest heat and humidity is an instant favorite thing.
So glad you got your CT palette, Tracey!! I was a little surprised it was still in stock last I checked! I just got mine yesterday afternoon and photographed straight away this AM but have no idea how long it’ll last, lol.
Poor guy looks like he’s DONE with summer! Me thinks dear Mellan will love the rain, too…whenever it finally gets all the way here!
Haul: Last night, cabin fever drove me out and up to the mall, where I succumbed and bought ABH Modern Renaissance palette! And a mini of Benefit Roller Lash, too. Tried on a TON of UD Vice lipsticks. Very *nearly* bought Disturbed, but seemed so autumnal, so I didn’t.
Weekend plans: The battle of the hair. ? And redoing my nails, I had my last polish on for almost 2 weeks! Other than that, hopefully I can get to my meeting.
What’s the best part of summer? Haha!! Monsoon!!! It hasn’t been one of our best this year…hopefully, it will get a boost from a Pacific hurricane like what happened repeatedly last summer. Other than that: NOTHING.
I really used to enjoy summer back in NJ, though. Cookouts, the Jersey shore, neighborhood block party, congregation picnic and after meetings, baseball. I seriously miss all that!
I think the last time it really rained here, he JUST missed the downpour by maybe 30 seconds, LOL! I, for one, was quite happy about that.
Two weeks for polish – that’s awesome!
LoL!!! His coat would have been one soggy mess, and a chore to dry!
This brand of polish is ridiculously cheap, $3, I think. But wow! It’s Sinful Gel Tech, and this shade was part of the Kylie Jenner line, shade is called Miss Chief, a pale pinky-lilac.
Yes, that Kylie Jenner Sinful Gel Tech line is awesome! I got Slay Grey, and it’s a gorgeous metallic gray with gold shimmer. I looked everywhere and couldn’t find it in store, had to order online from Walgreens.
Slay Gray is GORGEOUS!!! I have a very close shade from their regular Gel Tech line called Prosecco. It’s a bit more taupey than Slay Gray, but it’s one of my favorite Sinful Gel Tech’s ever!
Haul: Urban Decay Moon dust palette; Olay makeup wipes; Ipsy bag; Notoriously Morbid Vanishing Cabinet. Dollar Tree: Two Wet n Wild eye smudger brushes, Milani Bella Eyes in Bella Gray and Bella Navy, and Wet n Wild Brulee.
Weekend plans: Drive down to Eugene to pick up my son from BIL’s house.
What’s the best part about summer?: It stays light out later. It makes it much easier for me to drive in the evenings.
I remember in the fall, when daylights savings time came around, it was soooo painful to be driving to school at 5PM and it being dark!
Here it pours rain so much in fall and winter: Add darkness and wind storms, and it gets pretty ugly. My old eyes get a workout, even with glasses.
I can’t imagine! We were partially considering Seattle as a possible place to move to, but I ended up nixing it because I just don’t think I can deal with that much gray nor the colder temps. I don’t GO out in the sun for prolonged periods of time, but I love having a lot of light filtering into the house year-round.
I like sunshine, and can see the appeal of it year round. I’m don’t get along with a lot of heat, though.
Seattle is so beautiful. I just went recently for the first time. People take such good care of that place. Disparity is hard to detect there. I didn’t see people drunk at the bars. There was no litter on the street. Very few homeless that I saw and the ones i did seemed more mentally healthy than here in los angeles.
It really is a beautiful city.
From Sephora I got two Hourglass mini mineral veil primers; I had a sample that’s working well, so I wanted to keep using it but want to be sure it doesn’t clog my pores before I get the larger size and Surratt Beauty lipslique in Peccadille – which is pretty plum color. I got my pink Tom Ford Velvet Bloom powder, but haven’t tried it yet. My Neiman’s order of Cle de Peau came yesterday and I love the new Almond luminizer and lip lacquers; I haven’t tried the Edward Bess lipliner yet. I may go to Sephora for a sample of the new Sunday Riley Ultra Clarifying Face Oil to try out, but we’ll see if I do or wait until it’s been out for a bit longer. It sounds interesting and I do really like her other face products quite a bit.
Weekend plans – probably a mani/pedi session and just relax a bit. I’m exhausted this week.
The best part of summer? Everything (except maybe the humidity this year). Summer is my favorite season and it’s going by much too quickly.
Fingers crossed your skin reacts well to the Hourglass Mineral Veil primer going forward, Lea 🙂
Which shades of the Lip Lacquers did you get? Which is your favorite?
Lea, please report back how you like that Tom Ford Velvet Bloom powder. I am so tempted but have no idea if it would work on my NC37 skin tone (medium warm).
Haul: Bite Beauty lipsticks in Squid Ink and Kale, Sephora Bright Future Gel Serum Concealer in 13 Creme Caramel. I went to the MAC sample sale and got Velvetease pencils in Lover’s Lane, Anything Goes, Aim to Please, Lipstick in Be Silly, and the 246 eyeshadow brush.
Weekend plans: Write some blog posts and wear products for testing.
What’s the best part about summer?: I have a decent excuse to eat gelato often. lol
SQUID INK AND KALE! YAYYYYY!
Be Silly looks amazing on me–one of my recent MAC favorites!
Haul: ABH Moonchild palette. So far I like it .I have been wearing them as a eyeshadows with matching cheek highlight. The green and pink colors look great on me! Bite Beauty Amuse lipstick in Whiskey. I love the Amuse formula and the color is different from anything I own. I’m rocking now it despite it being more of a “winter” brown.
Weekend: Replant my plant to a larger pot. Declutter my closet. Check out a new restaurant with my daughter.
What’s the best part of summer: I live in Florida so we have a extended summer. But I love wearing light weight clothes and scrappy sandals. I also enjoying eating a lighter cuisine, lots of seafood and salads.
The Moonchild palette is really cool! I find it way more versatile than I thought it would be!
Got the Tarte Swamp Queen Palette and wanted the lipstick as well, but it’s out of stock. I did not need another palette, but the eye colors and the face colors seemed to work well together with out having to go hunting for another shade in my stash. Also a gator on the packaging, what’s not to like there? Picked up a CND vynyllux polish in Untitled Bronze, a sort of rosyish bronze, and a Japonesque Pro Performance Lip Lacquer in 01 (tan) on sale for $5. Not sure what we’ll do this weekend, it’s going to be vety hot and humid so probably something indoors.
I’m glad you were at least able to nab the Swamp Queen palette, Donna! Hope it works well for you.
Haul: Nothing special really. Ordered 3 of the Milani Metallic liquid lippies and got a Wet & Wild highlighter than I thought looked great (and is great). My next purchases will be next week for what I need; my Dior foundation, Bvlgari Omnia perfume, Boscia Tsubaki Gel Cleanser and I think Mascara but I forgot.
•Weekend plans: Nothing Much. I work a 2nd job on Sundays. I’m currently writing a novel so will work on finishing that. De-cluttering my room and living room closet. Might go out on a date with a new guy I’ve been seeing and sit at the pool and go to the gym.
•What’s the best part about summer? Getting a much needed two week to month break from my son. He goes to visit his aunt/uncle and grandmother in the summer. August 10th he’ll be gone for two weeks in Illinois!! Totally waiting for that…to do absolutely nothing while he’s gone but clean and sleep and not have to worry about cooking him dinner.
How is the Boscia gel cleanser? Does it remove makeup well or do you use it for after makeup/morning cleansing?
The Boscia Tusbaki (pink) is better than the Boscia Gel makeup breakup cleanser (green) but both actually pretty good. I bit the Tsubaki and the $10 makeup one for those days when i just wore minimal makeup. I usually take off my eye makeup first before i use it but it’s really gentle that if i don’t remove my makeup first, i can rub it gently on my skin enough to dissolve the makeup without getting any irritation. And it takes care of liquid lipstick too. I’ve just used a sample of the Fresh Soy Face Cleanser and it doesn’t hold a candle to boscia. I also tried a few other remover cleansers like caudalie and murad but nothing is better than boscia to me for an overall clean and moisturized face. Let me know if you use it, I’d like to know what you think of it.
At least you can touch Mellan’s toys. If we touch our Cockapoo’s toys, he freaks out as if we were trying to steal them!
Haul: My Nordstrom Anniversary sale picks… haven’t arrived yet! 😛 But I did receive Missha Cho Bo Yang BB Cream, Secret Key Starting Treatment Essence, YSL Full Metal Shadow in Steamy Coral, and my BH Cosmetics order.
Weekend plans: One day I’m going to have some exciting plans to mention. Today is not that day! Since most of our weekend plans are tentative, I have no idea what we’ll get up to! I’m sure we will do something to celebrate the latest news from my husband’s oncologist. The medication is working INCREDIBLY well and what was Stage-3 B-Cell Lymphoma is now Stage-1! I had no idea it could move back stages, I only knew there was a Stage-4 and no Stage-5 — so I am so, so relieved! At least there’s one less thing to worry about in my life!
What’s the best part about summer?: It means we’re a lot closer to autumn and winter than we were during the spring! I much prefer blankets to beach towels!
The lightning in Arizona is spectacular! Just remember to be careful if you’re out driving during monsoon season as downpours sometimes cause flash floods and/or ZERO visibility. Like, you’ll be driving along and everything will be fine, then you can’t even see the car in front of you. And park in a protected area if possible, you do not want to have a personal experience with a car damaged by hail. Oh, and always have candles and flashlights on hand! Lightning sometimes means no lighting! (Can you tell I’m a mom?)
My brother-in-law’s dog is really good about them – mostly because he wants you to toss toys, so he will bring it to you and spit it out at your feet, lol!
How do you like the YSL Full Metal Shadow? They are so pretty but do not seem to work that well for me.
Congrats on the amazing news from your husband’s oncologist! That is really something to celebrate!!
The YSL shadow didn’t work well for me, either. The color started fading within two hours. By four hours, it was very noticeably faded. Such a shame as it’s such a beautiful color! On the bright side, it never creased! LOL
Yes, thank you, it is amazing news! My husband is pretty amazing, consistently defying the odds, surviving everything life throws at him. The fact that my daughter is naming the baby after him, her step-father, is not only very appropriate considering the circumstances, but it also speaks volumes about what kind of father he’s been. =)
That’s awesome news about your husband, Cat! I’m so happy for you guys.
Thank you, Rachel! =)
Good news about your husband!
Thank you, Tammy! =)
That is fantastic news, Cat! I’m so glad for you and your hubby !
Thank you, Julia! =)
Great news, Cat! And hoping the cancer goes away all together
Thanks, Katherine! It would be wonderful if the cancer would just go away! =)
Haul from Sephora:
Anastasia Glow Kit in Sun Dipped, Sephora Collection lipstick in R46 Stolen Kiss (red-orange crème).
Favorite things about summer:
late afternoon breezes, hearing the wind in the trees and crickets at night, summer fruits (melons, peaches, figs), white cotton clothes, flowy boho styles, polished toes and pedicure on display, refrigerated facial masks on a hot evening, floral fragrances, and of course the Summer Olympics.
Sun Dipped! Such a summery palette.
Haul: My Tanya Burr cosmetics order came in this week which was awesome! I got like 5 lipglosses and five little eyeshadows because sales and the weak British pound. My Sephora Play box also came it which was nice as those have so far been really good (this is my third one).
Weekend plans: Nada. Thankfully
What’s the best part about summer?: I don’t really know. It’s my least favorite season because I don’t like sunshine and I don’t like heat (I’m weird, I know). Probably the ability to grow things to eat that are tasty. I only have a tiny patio/balcony thing and yet I’m growing tomatoes, strawberries, lemon cucumbers, bush beans (with an accidental squash that must have been in the soil mix living with it), lemongrass, ginger, and a bunch of herbs like mint, thyme, rosemary, shiso, etc. Non-edibles are some succulents from my great aunt in California, lavender, a geranium that comes from a long line of cuttings brought over by my great-grandfather from Switzerland (and now with cuttings living in 3 states and 4 countries…) and a few I’m forgetting. So yeah, growing things seems to be up there with what I like about summer XD
How is the quality of the Tanya Burr line? I haven’t heard much about it!
I really like the lipglosses. They’re not sticky, but look really nice on the lips. They don’t stick around too long but none do for me, and they’re technically drugstore so they’re pretty good in that sense.
The new liquid lipsticks are lovely! They’re a bit drying, but stick around for hours and I love the shade range.
The eyeshadow palettes are nice! They kick up a bit of powder, but have good pigmentation and a nice shade range which is great for the price.
The nail polish is supposed to be good too but you can’t ship it to the US so that sucks.
Your post is making me hungry! So great you have such a green thumb. The only thing I’ve been able to keep alive are the hard-to-kill plants, orchids and succulents
I got lucky in that my mom has such a crazy green thumb she can grow ANYTHING. So like 5% of that got inherited by me.
Fetch, Christine, fetch! Good girl. Tummy rub! Over there! What a nice, good girl. I’ve been good, haul wise, but it doesn’t last for long. Just rescheduled secret life of pets. Night job only sat/sun/mon. How yay, but I’d have more bucks for m/u, if the mgr hadn’t cancelled me one night. Best of summer: the ocean, the woods, more light, summer birds and berries, native asparagus, if you can find it. Just love cormorant season. They are so ugly and precious. Summer seasonal m/u is my least favorite.
He really does have me trained far better than I thought…
Mellon looks so cute gazing at his toy.
Haul: Shampoo and conditioner products. One of the Hairhouse Warehouse shops in our local mall is closing down and everything was half priced. So I got some DeLorenzo shampoo & conditioner, which is a great brand, plus a few other products.
Weekend Plans: I am really pleased that you got to spend some time with your mum and grandmother.
As there is going to be major maintenance to our electricity system this weekend, the power will be off all day Sunday. And it’s going to be the coldest day for weeks. So our family is going for day out up into countryside to visit a lovely little town. Hopefully it won’t be too wet.
Best part about Summer: Hmmm – I have to think here because summer is my least favourite season in Melbourne. It can get to over 40 deg C and with lots of humidity. So hot that you can’t really go outside during the day. I guess the only thing for me is that the clothes dry on the line pretty quickly.
Oh – I must say that I do like the salads of summer. I collect salad recipes and always like to try different variations. That’s more positive!
Have fun visiting the countryside, Genevieve 🙂 Hope it is a drier and lovely day for you and your family.
Haul: I ordered two of the new Charlotte Tilburg Hot Lips Matte Revolution lipsticks (Carina’s Love & Hel’s Bells) and a MAC Glaze Lipstick (Hot Tahiti) from Nordstrom, & today I picked up a NARS Sculpting Multiple Duo (Playa Flamenco/Oahu). Soooooo gorgeous!
Weekend Plans: I’m getting my hair done in the morning & going to the New Edition concert tomorrow night.
Favorite Thing About Summer: My birthday…it’s in TWO WEEKS! ?
Hot Tahiti! Fun shade 😀
Haul: Tried to keep it small. Got the five-piece Caudalie Favorites sample set from Sephora because I enjoy all the products, but mainly so I could the Marc Jacobs deluxe O!mega bronzer sample. I love it! Also got a very nicely sized point perk of the Clarins day cream. I really enjoy their night cream, so I’m hoping it works for me too. Overall I think it was a good value for all the different products.
Weekend plans: Currently on a beach trip with my best girlfriends! Trying to avoid getting sunburnt.
Best part about summer: As a teacher, do I even have to explain? 🙂 Sleeping in, having downtime to read, shop, and travel, margaritas, and the beach!
Clarins has some great skincare! 🙂 Any other faves from them?
Haul: It was a pretty significant haul week last week because I was in TX all week for work and the shopping there is too darn tempting. From Sephora: Bare Minerals Gen Nude lipliner in Borderline and Radiant Lipstick in Notorious and Guerlain Maxi Shine Lipgloss in Prune Zip. From Nordstrom: the new CT Look in a Palette (have the first one and really like it although it is a very soft look), the BB Lip Set in Nudes (such great soft pinky nudes, no concealer lips here) and a CT Color Chameleon Pencil in Dark Pearl (was going to go for the Anniversary sale set but the lighter pencil — I think Champagne Diamonds — was too glittery). Went for the Beauty Blender set as well — too good of a deal to pass up.
Weekend Plans: Relaxation, chores, just a nice peaceful weekend at home generally.
Best Part About Summer: It lifts my mood. I love the extra sunlight and the feeling of possibility every day.
