AXE Detailer Shower Tool Review & Photos
Shaun, aka The Tech Guy, aka my boyfriend, is here with another must-read “manly” review. He’s twenty-seven with normal-to-dry skin and suffers from no more acne (much to my envy!). Can you tell he’s on an AXE kick? ‘Cause I think he maybe raided the entire shelf…
Shaun enjoys long walks on the beach, vegging out on the couch watching chick flicks, and cuddling with Mellan. Or maybe not! He handles all the behind-the-scenes action here at Temptalia, from tech support to server woes to being my shoulder to cry on.
Well, the sponge (aka AXE Detailer Shower Tool; $5.99) is part of my AXE product tri-fecta. And frankly? I don’t like it! It’s too small for my hand, and it will probably only fit the creator’s hand correctly. It has these grips that if your fingers are positioned correctly create the man grip of doom. I don’t know who would wash themselves with a grip like this, but it looks like how you’d grip a sword on the way to battle. It has hard plastic around perimeter and once it gets a bit of suds on it becomes too slippery to get a decent grip on. It has little cut in grooves to try and combat this, but they fail miserably.
The sponge itself is too small to get any large area of the body efficiently and leaves you with a “I missed a spot” feeling. The funny thing is that it’s not good in “tight” areas either. It’s too unwieldy because of the hard plastic and doesn’t form well enough to get the intimate curves of a man’s flesh.
On the opposite end there’s a scruffy sandpaper like side that is apparently used for buffing the rough edges on your body. I don’t know where the typical guy would use this, but I have scruffy elbows and tried using it on them. It feels like what you’d expect sand paper to feel on your body–like pain. It didn’t seem to do anything about my rough edges, because I still scratched Christine when I was elbowing her out of the way to get to the last piece of pie.
Recommendation: Might be useful to someone if you’ve never used the all powerful MESH POUF BATH SPONGE.

I “loved” this because of the review…ahhaha oh man, the writing is hysterical. And way to elbow Christine to get to the last piece of pie! Even if it was great pie you still should have let her have it! Hahahahah.
I dragged my guy shopping the other day, and we stopped to marvel at this sponge. We spent some time poking at it, but did not buy it at the time. I will show him your review. Thanks for saving him $6 that he can now spend on me!
The Tech Guy is hilarious 🙂
must agree 🙂
My bro has this and he doesn’t like it because it’s too rough on the skin : /
I dunno… it kind of looks like some kind of robot spider thing… O_o
HAHA! Your reviews are the best ones at Temptalia.com 😛 😀
That sounds like it would induce the worst. showering. experience. ever. You definitely have our sympathy!
Have you tried Dove’s Men + Care “shower tool”? I completely adore it — the plastic’s softer than AXE’s version, so you can actually hold the darn thing, and the harsh side feels less “like pain” 😉 I’ve managed to get a bunch of readers, my sister, and (brownie points!) my sister’s bf hooked on it so far, which bodes pretty well if you ask me.
Plus, then you can be all “I’m so awesome I use tools IN THE SHOWER” without having to admit you use something by AXE.
No, I haven’t tried it, but you sure just gave me something to review in the future lol. Thanks for the suggestion.
Haha, np! It’s no larger, but it’s like… ten times as epic. If you do end up trying it, I hope you like it!
Great post, as always tech guy!
entertaining review…:D
def won’t be getting that one for my husband…sounds like a fail…
oh my god, I love the tech guy’s sense of humor! This is the first tech guy review I read and I’m going back to read his other reviews. He just cracks me up. Keep up the good work Shaun!
Lol! I totally made a brillo pad comment to my bf when I saw this at the store. Loved this review, “man grip of doom”.
Why must so many man products be 1/2 disguised as things you’d use on a car instead of a person?
Great review, you made me laugh, as always. Maybe the sandpaper bit would work for feet …
I’m always torn between ‘love it’ and ‘leave it’ because I love your reviews, but that thing kinda sounds like a fake-macho piece of crap.
You are so right about the car thing! I should have come with that… I might have to use that in a review soon. Maybe I can hire you as a ghost writer lol.
I miss that show 🙁
I’d love to experience the weight loss advantage from following you on twitter any day now LOL
Oh boy, I get so happy when I see a review from you, awesomeness as always !! Would never go near that kind of object and would be utterly scared if I saw it in my boyfriend’s shower !!
I’m still laughing. I love your reviews!
Shaun, you are hysterical. Your writing style is witty and very fun to read. SO glad you jumped on board with reviews.
Thank you, I’m glad you enjoy them. Look for more in the future 🙂
Hehehe, what a manly-looking bath puff! Very funny stuff. 😀
Highly informative and entertaining post, as usual.
Well, that was not very chivalrous of you Shaun! Give Christine the dang pie >:O
Don’t worry, she sneezed on it after I grabbed it and I had to give it to her.
What kind of pie was it?
My huband has one of these hanging in our shower!! Honeslty I was happy to see he uses a sponge – esp not my loofa =) I think he likes his but i’m curious what he thinks about the grip of doom!
Haha, I love the phrase “intimate curves of a man’s flesh”. I’m going to try to incorporate that into a conversation soon!
Thank you Shaun! I don’t think my guy would like struggling with a pint sized slippery sponge. Also, you should take a picture of your hand holding the tool in a Man Grip of Doom.
I laughed hard as I read this review…”grip of doom” lol
Great and honest review Tech Guy. My husband tried it just to get away from my pink scrubby gloves. He uses it about once a week and the harsher side should be used on your feet. My husband has really callused and dry soles so using that every other shower will soften them. Although please boys don’t stand while scrubbing your feet. Ha ha
My husband and I walked by this the other day and he said “hmmm.. that’s a new concept — a Koopa Troopa pouf, if only the gritty shell part is green..” Sheez! Men!
Tight areas? …No, wait! On secound thought, don’t tell me.
weight loss? ok im following you… )=
Pahahaha I laughed out loud. The photo makes the sponge already look totally awful. Why do you need a man grip of doom for a sponge?! Crazy Axe people.
OMG!!! “intimate curves of a man’s flesh!” This is one hilarious dude 😀
It looks like a prehistoric animal! xD Christine, you’re a lucky gal. This guy’s got insane writing skills. 😛
Great review Shaun! Entertaining as always.
My guy also experimented with this pouf and hated it for all the same reasons! I like how I’m posting about his pouf experience on your review that’s posted on Temptalia…let’s all hold hands and sing now.
Please keep reviewing! 🙂
LOL this was a hilarious review!
Hahaha your reviews are funny to read.
this was hilarious! he is great…love your reviews!
OMGosh Christine! I think Axe so copied Dove! Plus it’s $2 more expensive. It looks exactly the same and has the same “scrubby loofa” side and then the “sand paper” side.
Here’s the Dove one: http://themakeupdrawer.blogspot.com/2010/07/new-hg-dove-mencare-active-clean-dual.html
I haven’t tried the Axe one but I really like the Dove version. It’s big enough to clean every inch of the body and the scrubby side doesn’t hurt really -maybe just during the 1st use because your body isn’t used to it. If your boyfriend didn’t like the Axe version, I’d recommend trying the Dove one.
Your reviews are hilarious! My boyfriend tried out this item as well and said it wasn’t the greatest.
i bought that for m boyfriend and he hated it so i ended up using it. the rubber part was a little weird the first few uses but after that it sofend up and i kinda like using it. i think it was too small for his hand too. hehe
That…sandpaper looks like loop terry. xD
