Dior Serum de Rouge Lipstick (Fall 2010) Review, Photos, Swatches
Dior Serum de Rouge: Pearly Pink (470), Radiant Pink (560), Ruby (870), Plum (880)
Creamy, Silky, & Pigmented – Too Good to be True?
This July, Dior will launch five new shades of Serum de Rouge ($32.00 each, 0.07 oz. each): Pearly Pink (470), Radiant Pink (560), Pink Diva (670), Ruby (870), and Plum (880). I tested four of the five new shades, but I’ve reviewed the Serum de Rouge formula before (here and here). Everything about the Serum de Rouge formula is incredibly nice–except the wear. These creamy, glossy lipsticks slide off my lips in under two hours (usually just over an hour). Given the small amount of product you get (about half the size of your average lipstick), frequent reapplication can run you through one of these a lot faster than you’d think!
- Pearly Pink (470) is a semi-sheer rose pink with a glossy sheen. This is the sheerest shade of Serum de Rouge I’ve tried myself. It has subtle shimmer that’s really not noticeable. Pearly Pink is incredibly similar to Radiant Pink, though, except this shade is a little cooler in tone.
- Radiant Pink (560) is a semi-opaque medium rose pink with a glossy sheen. It’s not too milky, but it’s not bright or bold–it’s very soft, but it imparts a nice natural pinkness to my lips. It reminds me of a pinker MAC Angel. It’s a little brighter, pinker, and warmer than Pearly Pink, but the two are quite similar.
- Ruby (870) is a semi-opaque brightened, reddened plum with a soft glossy sheen. The glossiness in this shade seems a little more subdued in comparison to other shades in the formula, but it’s still there. The color itself is beautiful–very classy, perfect for fall, and sophisticated. Despite it not being full-color coverage, it applies smoothly and evenly.
- Plum (880) is a semi-opaque reddened plum with a glossy sheen. Wait, does that sound familiar? While there is a noticeable difference between this shade and Ruby, it’s very slight. This shade is darker, redder, but it applied a little streaky for me.
The Serum de Rouge formula is soft, creamy, and very lightweight. It feels like a lipstick, but it has the glossiness of a lipstick without feeling like one. It doesn’t dry out lips, and the color pay off is quite good. Not totally opaque, but pretty rich and typically not very sheer. The formula is comparable to Cle de Peau’s Extra Silky Lipstick, but not as stellar–but very close (and $20 less!).
I did notice that the darker shades like Ruby and Plum seemed to stay on a little longer (a full two hours) and both took longer to fade (another hour or so) entirely, while lighter shades like Pearly Pink were almost entirely gone by an hour and a half.

RECOMMENDATION: If you don’t mind frequent reapplication of your lip color, Dior’s fall Serum de Rouge shades are an interesting, even if a little redundant, mix of colors that go from soft and wearable to darker and vampier.

plum looks more like a darkened red than what i would describe as plum! like it all the same, looking forward to getting some darker lip colours for winter!
who is nw15 arm that you have been borrowing? lol!
It’s the boyfriend’s arm! We had to shave one of his arms to do it.
ha ha! so does he have one shaved arm and one unshaved? my boyfriend refuses to have anything to do with makeup! he thinks i’m trying to ‘turn him into a girl’! but obviously its different with you because its your business!
LOL, yep! It’s not fully shaved, just the underside. I figured I would get a bunch of, “EW, hairy!” comments if we didn’t!
haha aww what a cutie
OMG I am cracking up! This is awesome!
I’m waiting for the day you ask him to do lip swatches… 😉
That is so hilarious!! Your boyfriend is such a good sport. Mine would never, ever do that. Too shy, I guess. 😉
lol my boyfriend would run screaming before he’d let me get near him with a razor…or a lipstick :))
but the colors look awsome, i want them all!
Hahaha. I love you both, you and your your bf are absolutely adorable. What a good sport =)
Christine, ruby looks amazing on you!!! 🙂
Thanks, Laia!
agreed… ruby is a GORGEOUSSSSSSS shade. def need to pick that up
Ruby is a nice color! too bad that often Diors lipproducts dont last very long..
Ruby and Plum are both really pretty on you, especially with your dark hair!!
I did the dark hair for a short period of time, did not work that well for me. I think most of the time you really should stick sort of close to what God gives you.. little lighter, little darker, brigthen, enhance, etc.nothing wrong with altering but most of the time people look better in shades not too extreme from natural. At least in my opinion. Hey there’s a topic for one of your polls!
These all look great on you! I really like Radiant Pink. So pretty!
Ruby is gorgeous, perfect for fall, intense color but not too opaque. I think I could slurge in this one.
Ruby is a beautiful color! It looks very good on you.
the packaging looks so gorgeous and classy! &ruby looks soo pretty 🙂
Ruby is really beautiful <3
Ooo, I love how pigmented the two darkest shades are. Too bad they don’t last on the lips, though. I don’t like reapplication.
Ruby looks gorgeous on you and i love your lips! But i’m sorry to say your swatches don’t help me, lip products look so different on me 🙁
Sorry they aren’t helpful to you, Marina. There’s not much I can do about my natural lip color 🙁
I’m pretty new to your blog, but I think your lip swatches are very accurate – so much so, that I’ve given gifts based on them with great success! And I agree with the others – Ruby does look especially nice!
Thank you, L! I am glad they’ve been helpful to you 🙂
I agree – I LOVE the swatches
Christine rocks 🙂
I am in love with this line! It’s so comfortable on the lips. I have… shade 790 I think!
I really want Radiant Pink and Ruby!
I have yet to try a lipstick that stays on my lips for more than an hour, so frequent application isn’t a problem for me. I must say I’m really in love with Ruby and Plum but since my lips are very pigmented chances are Ruby on me will look like Plum on you.
Lovely, I want one in Ruby. These have such sleek packaging.
You look stunning with that Plum 🙂
They are SO pretty, but sadly not within my undergrad-student budget.
🙁 Maybe in a few years…
Hi! I just love your site!!!
juste a question about the Dior serum de rouge you’ve just introduced, what colour would suit best to a very fair skin, green eyes and light brown hair?
Thanks!!!!
Pearly Pink or Plum!
I love the formula on these! I wish they would make some more with shimmer. Some of the colors seem slightly flat.
I was all ready to hunt down both Ruby and Plum, until you gave this product my personal kiss of death: poor lasting power. That kills it for me each and every time. I’m addicted to Rouge d’Armani and its terrific wear, so a slippy-slidey “serum” gloss is not going do it for me. I can even tell from your swatches that the longevity is poor.
The good news is that you look great in each color.
I think that Pearly Pink looks stunning on you. These are all totally lovely colours and I think most people would look good in these since they are sheer.
Thanks for the review. I especially love your lip swatches since I am such a lipstick addict! 🙂
pretty shades…how do these compare to Slimshines?
Not really like ’em — they’re much more like lipstick, not as glossy or as creamy/slippery.
I love the packaging colors are pretty also
wow i loved all the colors !!! they’re just amazing and look so perfect on you 😀
I think Plum looks better on you than Ruby….because it makes your face pop in a GOOD way.
Ruby and Plum are so sexy on you! Great!
I did not like the feeling that the lisptick formual bites (feels strange) on my lips.
