This week’s Mellan photo (well, video this week!)…

Haul: Lipsticks from MAC Blue Nectar
Weekend Plans: Ladies Night Out tonight; hair appt. and sorority meeting tomorrow. Take my daughter and her girlfriend to the mall and/or skating. Church on Sunday
Summer Plans: Sorority Convention in the ATL in July; family to trip home to Vegas in August.
How are you liking your new lipsticks, Chris? Any new faves?
I am wearing Invite Intrigue today. I love that it has a creamier texture than the Retro Mattes. I purchased three and will probably get several more as back-ups since it is a LE Collection.
Haul: nothing because I have fun car taxes coming up
Weekend plans: CT Open House, I already did one weekend fun thing yesterday with the boy
Do you have any fun summer plans?: Nothing planned but probably a lot of spontaneous trips.
Have fun at the CT Open House! 🙂
Haul: Hourglass Hidden Concealer in the shade Sand, Sephora Blush Brush #49 for cream blushes, Becca Luminous blush in Tigerlily, MDSolarSciences Mineral Tinted Crème SPF 30 sunscreen, and a Karuna Hydrating+ face mask…I’m in love with sheet masks lately
Weekend Plans: outlet shopping after work tonight and doing lots of cleaning tomorrow to prepare for family visiting next week
Fun Summer Plans: Thinking of taking my brother on a graduation gift trip to Seattle, I’ve only been there once before but I was only there for 24 hours so I’d like to go back and explore 🙂
Oh, also update on the Clinique Take the Day Off miscellar makeup wipes…I unfortunately did not like these so I will be returning, there are 50 in the package and the first 3 I’ve used are not very saturated and kind of on the dry side. They feel rough on my skin and I didn’t realize they don’t remove waterproof makeup and I only wear waterproof mascaras and eyeliners so I’d rather use the Aveeno makeup wipes which do remove waterproof makeup quite well.
Oh no! Sorry to hear that. I’m glad you’re returning!
have you tried the simple miscellar makeup wipes? I really like those.
I have not, but I’ll check them out next time I go shopping for makeup wipes! Thanks for the suggestion
Or check out the Garnier micellar, blue top for EP, pink for regular. There are reviews on Ulta, and I think the Beautypedia. I use blue, after > 1-2 years of looking for remover and never having any other Garnier. Or go Asian, and oil cleanse before you second or foam cleanse.
How do you like the Hidden Concealer, Jennifer?
Have fun outlet shopping! Seattle is a great place, though I haven’t been in several years, so I am sure it would be a lovely trip!
I’ve used it a couple of times now and it’s pretty nice so far, I have to warm up it on my hands before applying to my under-eye area though as it is a stick concealer. No settling in lines so far though and seems to stay put!
Thanks! And yes the Pacific Northwest is a place of beauty 🙂
No settling is basically an insta-win for a concealer, lol!
I am really wanting to try Becca’s Tigerlily! Do you like it? What is your skin tone.
Haul: Chanel Empreinte du Desert quad; Clarins exfoliating cream (I’m at school so can’t see the full and rather lengthy name); another Sephora clear travel bag with that “fly” insignia on it; some minis of hand sanitizer and deodorant (trying to fly to NYC with just carry on!)
Weekend plans: mulching the flower beds, maybe going to the gym
Summer plans: 2 trips to NYC – one in 2 weeks with a friend and one in August with my hubby (our youngest son is working there on his co-op term so these will be primarily to visit with him).
LOL! Clarins’ product names are often very, very long!
Best of luck getting just a carry on to NYC, Mariella! I’ve become a pro at that, mostly because I’m terrified of checking bags!
Yay!!! You are going to love Chanel Empriente du Desert, Mariella! ???
Hahaha! He does toss his head around like a bull, I think you should get him some fake bull horns 🙂
*Haul – Chanel Empriente quad (OMG, stunning!! The finish is SO beautiful and glowy, now I know what everyone’s been raving about. If Chanel keeps this up, I’m going to be dead broke but happy!), Kylie Jenner nail polish in Slay (so sparkly!), MAC Brook Candy lipstick in Nightcrawler (bold and beautiful, will be great for fall/winter) and choice of regular lippie in Pretty Boy ( got it free as MAC Select Perk, pairs perfectly with MAC Spring Flock blush), and MAC Soft Serve shadows in Plead Guilty and Must Be Lust. They really remind me of the Chanel D’Illusion Ombres, have been using as sparkly toppers on top of powdered shadows. Christine, I know you couldn’t get your hands on Must Be Lust, but it’s a totally stunning sparkling peachy gold, was my surprise fave of all the ones swatched in-store, perfect for summer.
*Weekend – early father’s day dinner featuring my mom’s home-cooked crab (yum!)
*Fun Plans for Summer -nothing planned yet, but probably something with the toddler (zoo, museums, movies, amusement parks)
He can be a very noisy dog sometimes, lol!
Isn’t it funny how Chanel can really nail an eyeshadow formula but then we’ll never see it again? LOL! I feel like they bring that one out once a year, but it’s so, so good.
Dior is like that too, don’t you think? The marvellous quint they came out with a few years ago (Bonne Etoile) was so far beyond the quality of almost all their other releases and their permanent 5 pans. If they can nail it once, can’t they find a way to recreate that?
I think they are to a degree, but I feel like they rarely bring back formulas, haha. Chanel seems to use this hybrid formula here and there, but it is at least something I’ve seen return. I’m not sure Dior ever brought back the formula in the Bonne Etoile palette!
I still puzzle over MAC never bringing back Mega Metals. Never, ever.
Katherine, what level are you in MAC (if you don’t mind my asking)? I just reached their top level and have never gotten any freebie options other than mascara or eye makeup remover! How are the Soft Serves working for you? I’ve been afraid to buy another one since Bounce Around had so much fall-out.
Oh no! I was Select, then reached Devoted status in late May. On June 3, they emailed me the promo about the free lippie for Select members, and it was good thru June 6. The email had “Complimentary Lipstick” in the subject line, so hard to miss. You should’ve received an email, but if not, check your spam folder or call MAC. And in early May, I also got an email for $10 off $50 for Select. I get about 2 emails a day from them, mostly ads, but every once in a while, there’s a promo. The Soft Serves are working great so far. I haven’t worn them alone yet, just on top of powder shadows, but there’s been no fallout whatsoever. But I will wear them alone this weekend and report back.
Hmmmm, I may need them to check their emails to me. Ironically I did get the one notifying me of my “Obsessed” status. Thanks for the feedback.
Oh and darn it, you guys are going to make me pull the Chanel trigger! It’s been in my cart for weeks! I bought a few Marc Jacobs items during Camp Gorgeous but did get the Chanel quad. I feel like regret is starting to set in! (Honestly, part of the reason I didn’t buy is bc keeping up my blog is becoming unsustainable financially. Since I buy everything I review, getting the new releases not only costs me but it also means I use a product once and then can’t get back to enjoy it. I bought UD Alice and haven’t even set a brush in it to actually wear it bc after swatching I realized there were so many reviews out there, it made more sense to review something different. I am seriously considering suspending the blog – mass posting the 12-14 reviews I’ve already done – and then asking folks to just follow me on twitter and Instagram where I’ll continue to post swatches and pics. That way I can still contribute and can also get back into the palettes and things I’ve bought to actually enjoy them. Oh and so sorry Christine for going off on a tangent here. Your input on this though would be appreciated!) Anyway, so yeah, maybe after my hair appointment Chanel and I will have a date to get together 😉
Oh no bummer! I really enjoyed reading your blog, but can totally understand. Blogging is a super expensive hobby, unless you can get freebies, ad deals, sponsored links, or win the lotto. And the pressure to post something new everyday means you can’t enjoy what you currently have. I’m currently not on twitter or instagram (I already spend enough time surfing the web, afraid to do anymore), but might sign up, since there are a lot of swatches there. Glad you got Taro! I have it too, and right after I tried it on, I was thinking, I bet this would look great on Michele! And yes, please check out Empreinte. I think the golds, browns, and greens will look stunning on your eyes!
I’m just suspending it for the time being….maybe one day I’ll hit the lottery. Still going to cross-post swatches and looks (also on Facebook, I’m there at facebook.com/binx.cat.100 It’s my “personal” page but you’re welcome to friend me (as is any makeup friend)). I have 7 posts already written so I’m just going to mass post them now. None of them are ones Christine reviewed (or I think plans to?) Oh, and I bought Empreinte and the coordinating eyeliner in Sable immediately after making my decision to suspend my blog 😉
And I forgot to say thank you 🙂
You’re welcome! And thank YOU for all those reviews and swatches. Glad you got Empreinte! And oh Sable, sigh, so pretty . I wanted both, but after Empreinte, I could only afford one, so I got Oasis, as the green makes my brown eyes really pop. I think both would look great on you, but Sable will make your eyes pop more. I’ll check out your Facebook reviews, thanks!
Oooh Oasis is going to be stunning on you!
I got Empreinte du Desert too and just love it. It’s silly – I almost can’t wait to get ready in the morning so I can try it in different ways. The green is so unusual and lovely and very wearable. Quite a few of their newer shadow releases are really good too, though – Christine reviewed a bunch of the new “Tisse” quads when they launched. I got 2 of them right then and another one last summer (their autumn quad, which, of course, came out in the heat of summer) and all 3 of them are fabulous…almost too much so, since it makes me want more of them and it’s the last thing I need.
I know what you mean!! I already have the Tisse Automne quad and it’s one of my faves, and I initially didn’t want to get Empreinte because I thought the color combo was a little too close, but after reading like the 12th raving review on it, I caved, and so glad I did!
Isn’t that Chanel quad da bomb?!? Knew you’d love it, Katherine! I think everyone who buys it will find it downright addicting. I’ve only had mine for a a little over a week, and already used it as a full eye look twice in a week where I think I only did my makeup 5 times!
Yes, totally agree !! I know you were trying to decide between Empreinte and Tom Ford Honeymoon, and I kept secretly hoping you would get Empreinte, because I didn’t want you to miss out on another LE item. And I just knew that green would look gorgeous on you. At least Honeymoon is permanent, so you can save up for it, or wait to catch a sale/promo.
Exactly why I chose Empriente first, because FOMO bit me and hard! And it just felt really good to have something work perfectly and each shade in synch with eachother. The Chanel bug has bitten me!
Oh, I want that Empreinte too now! It was funny: just when I started thinking that I should start trying out greens, this came out and got this gorgeous review… 🙂 (But I just got Viseart in Cashmere last week, I can’t justify another palette right now… Ah well… :/)
Awww, hope you can get it some other time, while it’s still around, but Cashmere is lovely looking !
Hope so too! 🙂 And Cashmere is beautiful indeed.
Awwwww, more Mellan videos please 😀
Haul: some Estée Lauder products, mostly rebuys
Weekend plans: date weekend (as opposed to just date night :-))
Do you have any fun summer plans?: got lots of friends and family visiting and we’re also going to Portugal for a week
Have a great date weekend, Melissa!
Haul: After three years of living off Chloe samples, I finally bought myself a Chloe gift set with fragrance and body lotion. I picked up Dr. Dennis Gross Ferulic and Retinol Triple Correction Eye Serum (my third time purchasing) and Peter Thomas Roth 10% Glycolic Acid Hydrating Gel. I have heard so many good things about Chanel’s Empriente Du Desert Quad from Temtalia readers that I decided to purchase it before it sells out.
Weekend plans: Husband and youngest daughter are in Branson for my husband’s annual family reunion and I am over the moon having the house mostly to myself! I will spend some time with my son–we will cook together, maybe go out for a restaurant meal, and he has a new show he wants me to watch with him.
Summer plans: We have so many birthdays and holidays during the summer that it seems like every two weeks we are having a cookout. For Father’s Day I think my son and I are going to try our hand at smoking a whole brisket. My husband and oldest grand daughter will have birthdays in July, and then it’s my son-in-law and youngest grand daughter’s birthdays in August.
Here’s hoping the Chanel quad lives up to the hype, lol!
What did you guys have at the last cookout? My mom got a smoker over Christmas, and she’s been experimenting with that. I’m looking forward to trying something she devises next time I visit my parents!
We had hamburgers last weekend but our last smoking was ribs. OMG, ribs on the smoker are better than most restaurant ribs! We also love to smoke pork butt, shred it, and use it in all sorts of delicious meals. We eat it with brown rice, as pulled pork sandwiches, hash, in soft tacos, and for breakfast with scrambled eggs.
I’m sure the Chanel Quad will be stunning!
Tammy, thank you for your past advice on using glycolic exfoliant with retinol. Your method of applying them is much more convenient 🙂 . I’m also about to order the Chanel eye quad after hearing so many raves…
Cool, Ginny! The exfoliator cured my flaking skin?
How wonderful it is to have the house to yourself! What bliss!
Mellan is hilarious! He KNOWS he’s being filmed 😉
Haul:
Beautylish: Wayne Goss The Eye Brush Set
MAC (15% Off): Studio Nail Lacquer (Like My Gown), Lipstick (By Special Order and Stylist’s Tip), Lip Pencil (Brooke Candy – Night Crawler)….Thanks again Wende for the recommendation for Night Crawler!
Neiman Marcus: Marc Jacobs Le Marc Lip Crème (Willful), Style Eye-con 7 Plush Eyeshadow (The Social Butterfly), Highliner Gel Eye Crayon (Plum(Age) and Stone(Fox)), Marc Jacobs GWP, NM Camp Gorgeous GWP
Nordstrom: Serge Normant Meta Sheer Dry Oil Finishing Spray
Sephora: Urban Decay (Speedball and Sabotage), Verb Hydrating Mask, UD Setting Spray, Kat Von D Shade + Light Contour Palette and Brush, Marvis Toothbrush (actually bought to tame spray hair/flyaways), Fresh Advanced Therapy Lip Treatment, Kat Von D Shade + Light Eye Contour Brush, Benefit Cosmetics Boi-ing Industrial-Strength Full Coverage Concealer (01 Light)
Ulta: Urban Decay Vice (Rejected and Sancho), Tree Hut Shea Sugar Scrub (Brazilian Nut), Butter London Scrubbers
Urban Decay: Vice Lipstick (Conspiracy), Deluxe All Nighter Setting Spray
Weekend plans: I have a hair appointment Saturday morning at 8. Mani as always – I think I’m doing one of the Summer Zoya shades. Test out more UD Vice lipsticks, the Jouer palette and lippie I bought, and maybe the Jeffree Star palette. Write blog reviews. They just opened a Salt Cave and Spa here so may go check it out with my daughter.
Do you have any fun summer plans?: Possibly. I was invited to a ticketed beauty dinner in Toronto (unsure which brand will be launching right now). I’m working on trying to coordinate to see if I can arrange to make it. It’s about an 8 1/2 drive from where I live so my thought is to try to turn it into a vacay for my birthday (it’s the week before my birthday). I’ve never been to Toronto. Suggestions are welcome!
He is a total ham! He is particularly ham-like when new people watch him. An old friend came over a couple of weeks ago, and he just would not leave her alone!
Sooo crazy that MAC did a 15% off sale!
I know, I just about fell out of my chair when I saw a 15% off sale from MAC, and it was sitewide! And for MAC Select Members, they had a promo this past weekend, where if you went in store to buy a lipstick, you get a free lipstick of choice, woohooo! That plus dropping their shadows to $6 each. I guess MAC is really feeling the heat from the competition, I’d say it’s about time.
I think you’re absolutely right on the competition! I can’t think of any other brand (other than UD) that doesn’t also participate with the cash back programs. But then UD does their 20% off several times a year.
Nice fireplace, Christine! (and puppy, of course.)
HAUL: I did end up finding a good match in the Meow Cosmetics (I first tried 0-Inquisitive Manx, palest yellow with peach undertones, which was too light and not yellow enough). So I went up to 1-Sleek Manx, basically the same tone just a bit darker. Pretty darn good match. But the formula just doesn’t wear well on me, breaks up and settles into pores like most formulas do on me. So I won’t be purchasing a full size any time soon. The next thing I’ll try are the Body Shop whitening drops.
WEEKEND: Volunteering at a food tent for a fundraiser.
SUMMER PLANS: I’m way too busy at work to take a real vacation this year, but instead I plan to take a lot of day trips to museums, beaches, historical locations and stuff like that.
Thanks, Ginny! 🙂
Nooooooo! A good match but the formula doesn’t work? Say it isn’t so 🙁
I’m a big fan of day trips, actually. I’ve come to realize that I like doing the things I’d do on vacation (eat a fancy meal, get a spa treatment, go to a museum) more often but not all at once – so we do those things as we need a break here and there. It’s less stressful for planning (no crazy week before) and then there’s no back-to-work slump the next day!
Hauls: Dolls Kill: Ballet Baes in pink satin, 4 Lime Crime Velvetines (Cement and the trio with Peacock, Buffy and Beet It). Sephora: UD Spectrum (since it was on sale, why not?), Swarovski Slake bracelet – dangerously collectible!
Weekend plans: Be lazy, meet a friend for movie and dinner Saturday though.
Do you have any fun summer plans?: I’m more excited for fall plans so I’ll work on a costume for Emerald City Steampunk convention all summer and spend more time at the gym to look good in it. 😉
UD Spectrum is such a great palette! I hope you love it, Mimielle!
You will seriously love the Spectrum palette – it just about has every colour shade you could wish for and when it’s on sale – what a bonus.
Haul: I replaced my old Gwen Stefani palette now that it’s on sale. The old one was dropped, completely obliterating Danger (the blue shade, which is a PITA to clean in case you were wondering) and partially destroying Pop (which disbursed glittery dust all over the rest of the palette), so it was barely usable. Pretty sure that’s the only thing I bought this week, though I’m seriously considering ordering ABH Modern Renaissance…Naturally Pretty-style fuzzy pink packaging and all!
Weekend plans: Maybe going to a pool party, definitely getting ready for my dad to stop by on Sunday.
Summer plans: Not 100% sure.
I’m glad you were able to get another one, and at least, it wasn’t at full price!
Haul: Anastasia Modern Renaissance Palette, Too Faced Melted Matte in Feelin Myself and Evil Twin, Smashbox liquid matte lipstick in Chill Zone, Cover FX Custom Enhancer Drops in Moonlight, Viseart Theory Palette in Cashmere, Jouer Mermaid palette and Glow Palette, Jeffree Star Beauty Killer palette, Mannequin and Rose Matter liquid lipsticks, and the Saucebox Etude eyeshadow palette.
Weekend Plans: Lots of laundry and packing for my trip to Vegas next week!
Fun Summer Plans: This trip is basically it lol I’m going with my boyfriend (who I’m 99% sure is going to pop the question while we’re there!!! Eep!), and a few friends to EDC 🙂
Lots of great palettes there, Estefania! What palette did you use first?
Have a great trip 🙂
The only one I’ve used so far is the Saucebox one, and it is lovely!
Haul: MAC’s 24-Hour Eye Primer (seriously stellar! I remember you mentioned you’ve been using it even in place of NARS Smudge-Proof lately and that’s proved completely true for me as well. It’s fabulous! Definitely a new favorite eye primer in my collection of many, many eye primers. It’s like the perfect mix between Smudge-Proof, WnW Fergie, and a hint of Paint Pot smoothing capabilities. Don’t love how large the opening is on the tube but hardly a deal-breaker), refill of Fix+ (mine leaked all over my kit a few days ago! Nothing got destroyed thankfully, just a giant waste of product), and that’s it! Bitter Lace Beauty said they’re sending out Prism highlighters shortly and I’m in the first waitlist so hopefully that soon. And last week I got the new Looxi dupes of the Pat McGrath Skin Fetish shades (Looxi’s are Stripped for Nude and Stiletto for Gold). INCREDIBLE dupes. Almost spot-on. Stripped is more pink to Nude’s purple-pink and Stiletto has more silver in it than Gold but an amazing replica. She made them after thoroughly researching her own Skin Fetish products and they come very close. Definitely recommended as someone with both the original and dupes. I tested them out on darker skin since that’s such a huge appeal of the originals and they are stunning.
Weekend Plans: Rehearsal, auditions, hanging out with the pets. Not sure I’ll have hanging out with friends time with loaded work schedule!
Summer Plans: Work, friends, fur babies 😉 Same as usual.
Yeah, it’s not the ideal applicator, since it can dispense a ton, but I do find the smoothing ability to be the #1 thing I like about it (a lot of primers do quite well at longevity for me).
It’s so smoothing! But without any heavy feeling. Very nice! I just wish it had the old Urban Decay Primer Potion-style applicator where you can only squeeze out a very small amount. That would make it perfect since I’m a bit worried about going through it much more quickly than I ever have gone through a primer before simply b/c of the opening.
Sadly longevity is a constant problem for me since my lids are on the oily side but this one definitely keeps things on forever. Unusually long for me, anyway. Made it all the way through a heavily physical rehearsal yesterday and seeing friends. Eyes looked great when it was time to remove. Usually by then I have major fading. Previously Smudge-Proof was the best for preventing this but now the MAC may be stealing the show.
(I would estimate my shadow lasted from 7am-10pm without significant fading which is very remarkable for me. It was also ColourPop so I imagine certain powders will out-perform that)
I’m so glad to hear it! I still like NARS a lot, but these days, the smoothing aspect of the MAC one is better for my lids. How long did NARS last for you in the past?
Definitely the NARS is still great, but yeah the lovely thinner formula on it doesn’t offer much smoothing. I think I’ll try cocktailing the MAC and NARS next time, see if I can merge the stickiness of the NARS with the smoothing of the MAC. NARS lasted a similar timeframe often. A couple hours less usually. For comparison, with ColourPop at least I would get probably 8-10 hours if good wear time. So just a little bit less. Likely because the smoothing aspect isn’t as high. Certain powders I’ll get up to a 12-hour wear (which seems too long to be of huge importance but when it’s doing a show and then going out afterwards that’s a long time!).
Oh goodness, I need this MAC e/s primer, myself! It’s very hot here, and now the humidity is here too. Much earlier than other years. Yesterday, I did a Mad Hatter look using Vice 3, came out perfectly, but the humidity had it creasing after a mere 4-5 hours?!? And I had used one of my Lorac primer samples, but to no avail. Also used Nyx Milk to amp up the vibrancy. Maybe they changed up Milk’s formula? That would infuriate me!!!
They better not have messed with Milk! Aw, I bet that Mad Hatter look was great! Sorry the humidity messed with it 🙁
Celia, I have a bad feeling that they may have. It felt a lot less dry going on. And that creasing was bizarre, because Milk usually makes every and any eye look I’ve done creaseproof til I take it off! My old pencils of it, anyway.
Celia, I was curious about the Looxi dupes of the Pat McGrath highlighters, glad you confirmed my thoughts. When the McGrath ones launched, I couldn’t pull the trigger because they were SO pricey and hard to get a hold off, but when I saw the swatches, I thought, gee….they kind of look like my Looxi ones. Glad I held off!
Definitely worth checking out! Perfect for the very many people who didn’t want to pay the full 72 cost or were mostly interested in my favorite part of Skin Fetish, the pigments. I swatched out all the colors (Nude, Gold, Stripped, Stiletto) on a friend who didn’t want to pay 72 and she wound up liking Looxi’s more ha.
Great tip on Looxi! I have some of their highlighter that I purchased several months ago and I find them rather powdery; Pat McGrath is much more finely milled and creamy, but you are paying about 10x more, so… 🙂 Do you find that the Looxi texture has improved? As much as I love Skin Fetish Nude, I am not going to spring for the gold shade.
I agree that Looxi can tend to be less finely milled, which like you say is reasonable considering the cost. At least that’s how it is for me for some shades (the more glittery ones seem disrupt the milling a bit so I prefer the more metallic ones vs the glittery ones). But I think they definitely improved things with the Pat McGrath dupes. Stiletto and Stripped are both super soft and lovely. Of course the Skin Fetish pigments feel like pretty much nothing on because they’re so nice, but Looxi really nailed it here for the cost. These were also the first ones I got in the compact instead of the pan and I really like them.
Definitely worth a try! She’s restocking them I think maybe today? Either way she restocks a ton. I’d say it’s completely worth it for someone who really liked the Skin Fetish colors but didn’t want to bite the high-cost, which is totally fair.
Haul: Finally pulled the trigger on NARS Dominique!!! From the reviews online, I was initially super sure that if I was going to buy a purple lip product, it was going to be the Tarteist Glossy Lip Paint in Slay. However once I saw it in-store, I changed my mind because the tester was just a giant sticky mess and it had an applicator I didn’t really like. So Dominique came home with me and I’m really excited to wear it out this weekend (:
Weekend plans: Nothing, though I’m thinking of dropping by our local coffee festival.
Do you have any fun summer plans?: My ‘summer plans’ are happening right now LOL. I have an internship coming up at the end of this month so till then, I’m just languishing at home and enjoying the lack of things on my plate.
Congrats on the upcoming internship, Kimberly!! 🙂
Haul: Charlotte Tilbury’s Legendary Brow product & restock of her Brow Lift brow pencil; ordered 3 products from Bobbi Brown’s new Sunset Glow collectio, thanks to the GILT $30 off $80+. Collection available on her website and via pre-order at Nordstrom.
Weekend Plans: My mother-in-law is visiting, so we’ll be touring around town and staying cool. Today’s high is in lower 90s and the weekend will be hot and humid. (I’m built for hot but not humid!)
Summer Plans: I have a health issue that, at present, is limiting my ability to travel. Am hoping to be home in Canada for a few weeks in late June or early July.
Love Mellan’s video antics!
Forgot to report Charlotte Tilbury’s Retoucher Pen is coming with my CT order. On a whim, bought MAC Pro Longwear Waterproof Colour Stick in Copperpot. Found it incredibly drying on my eyes but it makes a great eyeliner. Am experimenting with different eye primers to see if it can be less irritating to my eyelids. My mother-in-law bought plum and lavender shades and does not find it irritating to her eyes at all.
Have fun seeing your mother-in-law, Tracey! 🙂
I hope you’re able to get to Canada soon!
Thanks, Christine. There’s nothing like being home in the summer. I love gardening with my mom and getting plants that she can enjoy all summer long. We enjoy kicking around town and enjoying favourite places. My spouse’s parents live just blocks away, so I pop back and forth between the two houses.
I’ve recently discovered ColourPop cosmetics, so that has been the bulk of my recent hauls.I’ve been lovin the lippie sticks and the MatteX lips. I would like to try a few highlighters, but I’m a little overwhelmed with the color options. If anyone has favorites, I’d love to hear. (I’m causcasian, NW20, but tans easily in the summer) On my wishlist/ shopping list for this week is Sunday Riley Good Genes and MAC Tendertalk lip tints.
Have you tried the Ultra Satins yet?
Haul: Guerlain Terracotta Le Parfum! And I picked up some goodies (mostly hand soap) from the Bath & Body Works semi annual sale 🙂
Weekend plan: ditto as yours!
Fun summer plans: Haha, our visitor season has ended, it’s like pulling teeth getting friends and family to come visit Florida in the heat of summer! Wearing lots of sunscreen and trying to stay as cool as possible. 🙂
Haha! Yes, I can imagine that Florida in the summer isn’t that appealing! 😉
Mellan’s so cute. 🙂 I’m glad your parents will be able to visit you this summer.
Haul: I didn’t buy anything this week. I got the big UD Vice Lipstick sampler from Ulta, and a sample of Shea Moisture Peace Rose Oil Complex Sensitive Skin Mud Mask. My Ipsy glam bag is supposed to arrive today.
Weekend plans: Nothing exciting.
Do you have any fun summer plans? My 25th wedding anniversary is August 31. Hubby and I are going to Washington for the weekend. The main event is an outdoor concert to get our 80s on (Heart, Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, Cheap Trick, and I forget who other band is). Early September we’re going back to Washington for Duran Duran (indoor arena venue this time, luckily). We’ll probably take some camping trips with the kids, but no concrete destinations at this point.
Me too! I wish they’d fly, though – it’s such a long drive, lol!
That’s going to be an awesome concert, Rachel!
Haul: None yet, I need to go out and buy some new stuff for my new job. It’s going to be mostly electronics.
Weekend Plans: Still being sick, hoping I’ll be better by Monday!
Summer Plans:Working said new job, nothing special.
Congrats on your new job, Erin!
Haul: I loved my MAC Pearl Sunshine so much that I decided to grab Pearl Blossom, too. Should get here today!
Weekend plans: I was at a meal-packing volunteering event this morning, but for the rest of the weekend I’m hiding in the AC, too. Need to schedule a 3rd contractor to give us an estimate for our remodeling project.
Do you have any fun summer plans?: headed to San Francisco area in a month for my SIL’s wedding ( I am trying sooo hard to fit the Monterey Bay aquarium into this trip!) and then a second smaller trip near my bday in August. We were thinking of going to Iceland, but once we found out how much our master bath remodel is going to cost we decided to downgrade that to a domestic location, lol!
I hope Pearl Blossom is just as lovely as Pearl Sunshine for you! 🙂
Monterey Bay Aquarium is not to be missed if you’ve never been!
Really hope you can visit Monterey Bay Aquarium, it’s gorgeous! And even if you can’t, they have some livestreams of their enclosures online. I love watching the otter and jellyfish livestream haha.
Kimberly, I just checked out the livestream and that is so cool! There was a jelly exhibit at Shedd last time I went and I found it mesmerizing 🙂
Julia, I also loved Pearl Blossom and bought Pearl Sunshine, and I love them both!
I am so happy with Pearl Blossom! I wore it today over Clinique Rosy Pop and it turned out so pretty. I think the finish on both them is beautiful and they have just the right amount of pigmentation to be ideal blush toppers. Pearl Sunshine over Ginger Pop = peachy perfection.
Haul: Boscia Makeup Break-up Cooling Cleansing Oil, Ole Henriksen The Whole Truth Kit, Bite Beauty Mix and Mingle lip duo in Latte/Corado
Weekend plans: Tomorrow is my friend’s baby shower! I go back to work on Monday (my boss went on vacation and the office didn’t need me) so I would like to write and schedule A LOT of blog posts for the coming week.
Do you have any fun summer plans?: I wish I could say something cool like I was traveling overseas. Lol. The only thing that seems likely is a trip to Washington DC.
I’ve heard great things about Boscia’s Cleansing Oil! Is it your first time trying it?
Haul: Maybelline Midnight Blue lipstick. MAC Night Crawler lip pencil and Lust Extract lipstick.
Weekend plans: starting the remodel on the master bathroom.
Fun summer plans: going to our lake cabin in MN for a week over July 4th, visiting my parents in August.
Good luck on the remodel, Alice! What will you be doing?
Basically everything! New tub/shower, vanity, mirrors, towel bars, and light fixture, replacing the tile, painting the walls and ceiling, news shelving in the linen closet, and putting trim around the door and window.
Haul-Makeup Forever Aqua XL eyeliner in Diamond Black and Clinique Black Honey mascara (being returned due to a horrible allergic reaction to it)
Weekend plans: Stay cool, too hot to be outside
Fun summer plans: Nothing coming up….I just had a three week vacation 🙂
Hope that vacation was nice and restful 🙂
Haha!! I love his snorting bull noises! Adorable! My Maine Coon, Scunci, chuffs like a tiger or lion! Too silly!
Haul: Just a few things I got at Ulta because Nyx’s whole line is BOGO50%. So, a new Milk JEP, Prismatic eyeshadow in Frostbite, Baked Blush in Chiffon (it’s going back to Ulta), and their newest waterproof concealer called, Gotcha Covered, that comes in a squeeze tube as opposed to the old twist-up stick I bought for years. Got it in Medium Olive, perfectly covers red areas and matches my skin *perfectly*.
Weekend plans: Doing hair, probably nails, too. Staying indoors with my AC, because it’s begun to get humid outside along with the inferno heat. Hate AZ summers!!!
Summer plans: No, not really. With the exception of a 3 day Convention in Tucson. Wish I would have put some extra $$$’s aside to go visit NJ, in particular, my old friends and the Jersey shore for a nice 4-5 days! I am perpetually homesick for the great food back there, as well.
Haha! That must be a hoot to hear. Animals make weird noises 😉
I am digging the heat so far, really. But I am inside all day, so going outside for 10 minutes with warmth is lovely!
Haul: I visited NYC this past week, and I thought I would do some shopping but I actually did very little. I didn’t even feel like it! I stumbled upon a Rituals store so I bought 3 of their shower foams (I love these and they were B2G1 free!), in Happy Buddha, Tai Chi and Samurai (not sure I have the names right!). I also got an appointment at the Bite Beauty Lab to create my own lipstick shade, and it ended up being a bit underwhelming. Still got a unique lipstick color though!
Weekend plans: rest after our trip!
Summer fun: well the NYC trip is now behind us, so nothing special.
That’s great, Lulle! It must be nice not to be tempted 🙂
What made the experience underwhelming at the Bite Beauty lab?
Haul: Skindinavia Bridal Makeup Setting spray. I’ve got my eye on a Tom Ford foundation and a few Chanel pieces for the next few weeks.
Weekend plans: Finish trimming the trees out front, get background plans finalized. I’ve got homemade chile verde simmering on the stove so that will be ready for tonight’s dinner, plus leftovers for the week.
Do you have any fun summer plans?: Annual Las Vegas trip with my girlfriends coming up at the end of July.
Which Tom Ford foundation, Pearl?
I think for Summer I’d do the Traceless since it’s luminous/glowy. I have an HG foundation but I’ve read a lot of good things about the Traceless and want to see what all the fuss is about. I’m going to call a Nordstrom that carries it tomorrow and order a Tom Ford mascara and ask for a few samples of the foundation. I’m almost done with my current bottle of foundation so if I get a color match from the samples and the wear is decent, I will order that as my next bottle.
Haul: Sephora Favorites “Summer Crush” set, Sephora Favorites “Sun Safety” set. Very good buys! I also ordered a Zoeva brush set that I get to open on my birthday in a week or so.
Weekend plans: My mom is coming back into town so… enjoying her presence and also surviving it?
Do you have any fun summer plans?: Hopefully spinal surgery. Though it’s taken 4 1/2 years to even get a diagnosis so I’m not overly hopeful that it will happen soon. I also may need to go to another state or country to get it done and that will take more time.
Love the Sephora sets! I didn’t know Sun Safety was out!!
I hope you’re able to get the surgery you need, Anne!
It’s so far only out in-store but my mom is weird about money so I figured I’d get it before she came into town… They have limited quantities too so I called first to see if it was in stock at my Sephora before going over there. It’s a great set this year!
And thank you! Fingers crossed that I do.
I love my Zoeva eye shadow brush set, face powder brush, and round foundation brush!
I got the Rose Golden Eye Set for Christmas, and now the Rose Golden Face Set for my birthday, and I have a feeling the Vol. 2 or 3 sets are going to be on my list for Christmas and my birthday next year. Such good quality for quite a bargain, it’s just a lump-sum investment that is quite pricey!
Haul: This was a big haul week for me as I bought for both myself and my poor struggling college student daughter. We had a few days alone in town as I was having back injections and so we did some serious credit card damage to keep my mind off the upcoming procedure and then the pain. I am going to mix them all together so here goes: 3 Liz Claiborne handbags, a black Liz Claiborne suit jacket to pair with jeans and t-shirt underneath to dress up a casual look, silk blue blouse to wear with jacket and nicer pants, a total of 5 pairs of shoes, mostly sandals.
Household supplies: Fans, water filters, new light bulbs and 2 chandeliers, some new rose bushes and flowers for the window boxes. Organize it supplies for my daughters bedroom. Her makeup collection is growing quite rapidly. She says I have created a monster but I think it is a much healthier hobby than some she could be involved in so I am happy to feed it! She is really into marble right now so we found several things at Target that were intended for office and desk supplies that could be used to hold brushes, etc.
Make-up and Beauty:
Target: 10 Face Masks. I haven’t used these before but they were cheap and since I love masks I decided to try. They are called Miss Spa 20 Minute Masks and they are sheet masks. I got two of each type in brighten, detox, exfoliate, moisturize and mud. Ulta, Too Faced Sparkling Bellini Blush and Stila Stay All Day Liquid Eyeliner Darkest Black. Nordstrom’s On-line: Charlotte Tilbury Eyes Too Mesmerize in Marie Antoinette, Lip Cheat in Savage Rose, Lipstick in Amazing Grace and Color Chameleon in Dark Pearl. MAC lipsticks in Diva, Chilli and Captive
Chanel Le Blanc Base de Teint Lumiere in Rose. Fiona Stiles Luminous Finish Foundation Concentrate in 01 to use as an everyday foundation. I love my Chosungah 22 but I have to order it on-line and want to have something for everyday so decided to try this. So along with foundation I decided to try the peach corrector in 01/02 for my persistent hyperpigmentation and the concealor 01/02 and finally from the same colletion the under eye brightener click up pen.
From Sephora the eye shadows in Coffee Break, Sir Yes Sir and Cashmere. Urban Decay Metallic Eyeliner in AC/DC, 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil in Vice, Demolition, Psychodelic Sister and Mainline. Nars Velvet Matte LIp Pencils in Damned, Walkyrie and Dolce Vita, and ABH liquid lipstick in Vintage.
On line ABH: Modern Renaissance Palette x 2 with liquid lipstick in Vamp and Dusty Rose.
On Line Lorac Pro 3 Palette.
Walgreen’s Sally Hansen Gel Polish in Street Flair.
Weekend Plans: Pick family up at the airport in Spokane WA and go early to have brunch at the Davenport Hotel. My daughter and I like to go to Spokane to have tea at one of the two tea houses but they are closed on Sundays so we substitute brunch at the Davenport Hotel. This is a beautiful grand old hotel that has been refurbished and is a joy to just sit in and walk around looking at the beautiful style, architecture, ambience and just pretend that everything in life is genteel. It has another wonderful attraction in that it is only 2 blocks from the only Sephora and MAC counter within 3 hours of us. The next closest is all the way to Seattle. We live in Montana!
Summer Plans: We had a long and event filled summer planned and much of it has been placed on hold. My ex-husband and only child’s father who lives with me for health reasons has developed a large thyroid tumor which has extended down into his chest and will require surgery from a special thoracic surgeon in CA. He will be travelling back there in two weeks but is coming home on Sunday to spend the time with our daughter. We will see after that what we have time to complete. As I told him, there is always next summer where we have planned a grand trip through Europe for her college graduation so I want to get everything health wise taken care of this summer!! Have a wonderful weekend everyone.
Whew, that is a haul, Deborah! I hope your back injections went well 🙂
How do you like living in Montana?
Gosh – Mellon is so cute – he is still very much a puppy at heart. I love his little toy collection too.
Haul: Nothing much this week, just some basic skincare items.
Weekend plans: Going up to the mountains today with my son and his new car for a drive, having lunch at a really good mountain hotel. Tomorrow my sister and her partner are coming over for lunch and to taste the cake that Olivia (my two year old granddaughter) and I made. So that will be full on. Monday is the Queens Birthday holiday here, so I am not sure yet what we will be doing.
Holiday Plans: As it is winter over here, it is a really good time to head north and we are going to visit my cousin who lives in Queensland. It is far too hot to go there in summer and they have the cyclones and high humidity then too.
What kind of cake did you and your granddaughter make?
We made a vanilla cake with an assortment of berries in it. I had a bit of difficulty getting her to stop eating all the berries so that we would have some left for the cake. When the cake had cooled, she liked picking off the blueberries from the top of the cake…. so it looks “interesting” now.
Haul: A big haul this week, I’m on a no-buy now!
Beautylish: Jeffree Star Skin Frost in Mint Condition and The Brush Guard brush shapers – Shadow & Liner pack
Trouva: Paul & Joe lipstick case
Pixi: Glow Mist
Cult Beauty: Kevyn Aucoin lip pencil in Bloodroses, Becca Backlight primer, 2 samples
Make Up Revolution: Mermaids Forever and Mermaids vs Unicorns palettes
Beauty Bay: 2 Coloured Raine matt lip colours in Cherry Blossom and Oooh La La, Jane Iredale silver powder, Tokyo Milk French Kiss perfume (on sale), free GWP Ga-De Golden Savannah eye palette
It’s interesting, I bought Brooke Candy Nightcrawler and MAC Captive to see if they would work with MAC Hot Chocolate, as per suggestions from Wendy and Rachel R, but neither of them worked to make Hot Chocolate a bit more mauvey for me. I tried UD Matte Revolution in AfterDark instead and that did work but the 2 lipsticks together ended up a hot mess! Transferred everywhere. I have KA Bloodroses lip pencil now tho and will give that a go, it’s similar to After Dark but is drier, it might work with Hot Chocolate. I’m not sorry because I’ve discovered that purple lips look really good on me, haha! So it’s a happy discovery AND I’ve got new lip products that look good on me ?.
Plans for weekend: Dunno, well see what the weathers like here, haha! I have started injecting myself with vitamin b12 because getting it once every 3 months at the doctor’s surgery is nowhere enough. I hope I’ll have more energy to enjoy doing more things with my little family ?.
Summer Plans: I’ll be going up north with our little daughter to my parents’ house for a couple of weeks, my fiancé will drive up for the weekend in the middle.
How do you like Kevyn Aucoin’s lip pencil, Claire?
I can definitely see the Matte Revolution formula transferring, though!
Haul: Jeffree Star Rose Matter and Unicorn Blood, Sugarpill Trinket, and a small Fyrinnae order
Weekend plans: Head to Universal to see if I can get into a soft opening of their new Kong attraction!
Do you have any fun summer plans?: I’m going to see Panic! At the Disco next week and also won tickets to meet them. Then I am going to Europe (Paris and Ireland) for a research trip!!! Scared to travel, since I haven’t ever really done it on my own (ie. without my parents), but also very excited.
Completely forgot I also hauled Dew and Lavender Jade from the MAC Bangin’ Brilliant collection!
Yay for Fyrinnae!
Congrats on winning tickets to meet Panic! at the Disco! How fun!
I really like the videos! They really show Mellan’s sweet personality. 🙂
Haul: FAB Facial Radiance Pads, Too Cool For School Egg Cream Mask, a Sephora brush conditioner, a CoverGirl lipstick (for forty-seven cents!), and one of the new Maybelline lipsticks in shade Midnight Blue.
Weekend plans: We plan to go for a drive tomorrow, maybe wander around in downtown SLO, hopefully catch a friend at work and take her to lunch.
Do you have any fun summer plans?: We’ll be welcoming our first grandson into the world in August… so that’s pretty exciting! We’ll be spending some time in the Hollywood area while the baby and my daughter are recovering. I’m sure my son (who just graduated from high school yesterday!) and I will have fun wandering around Hollywood.
Congrats on your first grandson, Cat! 🙂
Thank you, Christine! We’re looking forward to his arrival. 😀
Congratulations on the new grandbaby!
Thanks, Rachel! 😀
I live with my sister who doesn’t wear makeup and she tends to be judgmental of my makeup buying. But she is on vacation for two weeks so she can’t sideeye me!
ColourPop: got two sheer lippie stix, Whip and Peacocky. Whip is purple and I’m not totally sure how I’m going to use this, but Peacocky is nice for an every day look. Also got Wattle eyeshadow and the Birthday Boy freebie. Definitely not sure what i’m going to do with something that sparkly but it is very fun.
Also just placed a Sephora order that hasn’t arrived: new Clinique mascara (I hate the one I have now, which I got from Ipsy, going back to my old tried and true), some brush cleanser (boring), and – I blame this site entirely – a self-made quad of Anastasia eyeshadows. I got Macaroon, Chiffon, Glisten, and Sangria. I am super psyched about these colors.
I have some things in my MAC cart too but haven’t pulled the trigger. I mean, it’s 15% off but I totally don’t need this! I’m really interested in the Huggable lipcolors but not sure if it’s worth the money. They seem kind of similar to the much cheaper ColourPop sheers. (I also built a 6 eyeshadow palette that I totally want but is hilariously unnecessary. I mean, how many bronzey browny orange golds do I need?!)
How do you like the formula of the Sheer Lippie Stix? I heard they improved them!
I like them fairly well. I haven’t tried them until now so I can’t compare. I’m surprised at how pigmented they are tbh. I thought they’d be more like the Clinique lip balm crayon thingies I have. (I’m so good at remembering names.) But these aren’t very glossy and are more lipsticky than I had expected. I haven’t worn them all day yet though. We shall see.
Thank you! 😀
Ordered a few things from Haute Look, the Balm. I know I ordered a bronzer. I controlled myself by not ordering lipstick or eyeshadow. Other than that, I’m waiting for my sample boxes to arrive.
Can’t wait for you to get your theBalm goodies!
Haul: I haven’t been able to buy a thing for months and months, but recently started a new job, so now I can breathe again!! Bought Maybelline Baby Skin because I’ve been sans primer for a while – it’s ok, kinda your typical silicone primer. Don’t think I love it. Also MAC Lingering in the Big Brow Pencil, actually surprised it’s not ideal – it’s just not pigmented enough, and I find I have to smoosh it really hard to get the pigment to apply, then it sticks too much to my brow hairs. Also bought the Brow Duo in Brunette, to replace my much loved and nearly exhausted Brow Shader in Porcelain/Browning. I like it a lot, I’m finding it works well for creating a more natural, dimensional looking brow, using the lighter colour on the inner and the darker on the outer.
Weekend plans: Working on Sunday at my new kennel job, study up on surgery for vet nursing, and getting over my sinus infection!
Do you have any fun summer plans: Well it’s not exactly summer here in New Zealand, but I do have some winter plans! Going on a trip to Queenstown in late July 🙂 can’t wait
Congrats on the new job, Jade! Hope you are enjoying it 🙂
