Claims / Ingredients

During medieval times, when lipstick was considered a sin, women used the natural acidity of lemons to bring forth a natural blood-red stain on their lips. This flattering look has been recreated by Poppy in this best-selling tint. Medieval is purely Vitamin E and pigment, making it silky to wear and divinely transparent. And best of all it makes your skin look flawless.

I am not into very sheer, glossy lipsticks. When Medieval arrived in the mail, I was very excited, but then it was not at all buildable and it certainly is not a stain. You can apply layer after layer and blot and start again, and the color will never get deeper. I was very unhappy that I paid so much money for a barely tinted gloss when I expected something so much better. It looks beautiful in the tube but almost nothing on the lips. I haven't bought another Lipstick Queen product for myself. So many of the LQ shades are the same: beautiful in the tube, but almost nothing on the lips. Seriously, I want at least some color for my money. That said, I have found a use for it. I keep it in my purse, and when one of my pigmented or liquid lipsticks needs maintenance, a dab of Medieval can help redistribute and moisturize the pigment on my lips without changing the color. I'll probably use it up this way or as a chapstick alternative. I like the metal packaging though.

I normally wear full coverage lipsticks so this is definitely a change for me! Medieval is a essentially a non-sticky, glossy balm on steroids and I find myself reaching for it quite frequently. Seriously--it feels goooood going on. It has actually earned a place in my purse. The consistency is smooth and silky with a lovely berry flush. It feels moisturizing and comfy. Lipstick Queen claims it to be the red anyone can wear but I wouldn't classify this as a red; a very flattering cool toned berry is probably more apt. Longevity isn't great but this is totally understandable given the formula. I use over more matte lipsticks and on it's own. There is enough pigment to be buildable but it will never approach opaque coverage. No scent or flavor. Bonus points for the sleek metal tube!
