Free for Haul Friday, Volume #341
Share any beauty goodies you may have picked up in the last week or so, or maybe what’s on your way or on your wish list for next week or month. ๐
- Haul: Pretty light this week! I picked up new deodorant (trying one from Dermadoctor) and the Jack Black Lip Balm in stick form.
- Weekend plans: I’m going to try and get through it today, but if I can’t, then I’ll try to finish this big blog project over the weekend for Monday!
- What’s your favorite genre for music: I tend to like upbeat pop/hip hop, but I genuinely have favorite artists from just about all genres! I know when I’m working, I usually listen to the Top 50 (US) or On Fleek playlists on Spotify.
Share your pet photos to the Temptalia Pets flickr group! ๐
This week’s Mellan photo (well, video this week!)…
P.S. — I love seeing everyone interact with each other here, so I am also going approve comments without replying (with the intention of still replying personally!) as I can so that you can see each others comments ASAP!
Mac lipstick(BTM), Clinique chubby stick in Mega Mellon.
Hopefully we will have a peaceful and relaxing weekend. Maybe see a movie.
Latin Pop and Salsa
They do like their tummy rubs! xoxo for the always handsome Mellan from me and the boys. Have a great weekend Christine.
Mega Mellon! That’s the best one ๐
Haul: I hauled MAC’s Hot Chocolate lipstick from Vibe Tribe, the new Kim Chi shadow from Sugarpill and their Sparkle Baby palette, and a new NYX Jumbo Pencil in Milk since mine is almost gone!
Weekend plans: I think my boyfriend’s mom is having a pool party/get-together tomorrow, so if that is still going on I’ll be kicking it by the pool with a book!
Whatโs your favorite genre for music: I enjoy listening to alternative rock, hard rock, scores from films (Lord of the Rings, etc), and musicals!
I lied. I also hauled the Jeffree Star Skin Frost in Ice Cold when it was teased today as well as the Sugarpill Edward Scissorhands palette from a destash and the Cold Chemistry palette.
Hot Chocolate is such a pretty shade! I hope you enjoy it! ๐
Tickle, tickle, Mellan! Can’t wait to see what you have in store for the blog
*Haul- from ColourPop flash sale -shadows in FlowerShop, Belladonna Lilly, Shop. Lipsticks in Backup, Bootie, Cami, Safari. And Lip Pencils in Chichi, Clique, Petit Four (got backups since it’s hard to find gray lip liners). Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in Streak (thought this was going to be a coral pink, but it’s more of a baby pink on me, have to mix with brown lip liner to make it work)
*Weekend – dinner with parents, work on presentation
*Music – Top 50, 80’s rock
Good idea getting back-ups for the lip liner!
Haul: 9 West Hair Salon ($5 Off): Kevin Murphy Damage Manager and Angel Masque
Beauty.com (20% off): Mason Pearson Combs (Styling โ 2, Rake, Tail), Borghese Survival Set (2). I fell in love with the Mason Pearson styling comb I received last week. Itโs not only beautiful, but my hair loves it! So I wanted one for my handbag and one o replace an old comb I had in the shower. I thought the rake comb would be nice to replace the one I got free with a beauty purchase (I use it to run through my hair after I use hot rollers or a curling iron) and the tail one is perfect for parting and sectioning my baby fine hair.
Sephora: Formula X #ColorCurators: Ashley Graham Edition – Nail Polish Sexy As Hell, SEPHORA COLLECTION Smooth Delivery Makeup Sponges
Target (25% Off): Sonia Kashuk Smokey Eye Palette Shadow Box and 6 Piece Smokey Eye Brush Set
Ulta (Ebates 15%): 22-pc Beauty Bag (GWP), Tony Moly Panda’s Dream Brightening Eye Base, Stila Perfect Me, Perfect Hue Eye & Cheek Palette (Fair/Light), Pacifica Purify Coconut Water Cleansing Wipes (I only use these to wipe my hands when Iโm testing makeup)
Weekend plans: Mani/Pedi. Test the Stila and Sonia Kashuk palettes. Possibly shoe shopping (I have a derby-type shoe in mind for when I need to go into my – very conservative – office but can’t find one that doesn’t look like something my 84 y/o non-fashion-minded Mom would wear). They’re calling for rain again this weekend so all the festivals/fairs I had planned to attend have now cancelled…not sure what else I may get into.
Whatโs your favorite genre for music: Rock or Pop.
I forgot, I also got the Sonia Kashuk 12 piece brush collection. I like the feel of her brushes and needed to replace some in my stash. Got the extra 25% off and like the theme of her 2016 Spring KO Collection.
awww sad that I missed the 15% cash back at Ebates. Must have happened while I was on vacation
Let me know how you like the Stila palette! I’m hoping they might be come “one and done” travel palettes for me.
Joyce, sorry for the delay – I wanted to get my review posted before I responded. If you’re interested, the review is at: http://goo.gl/u232p8 Please be patient as I use WIX (free web hosting) and it does take a bit to load. In short, I do like it.
How do you like the Sephora makeup sponges, Michele?
Christine, sorry for the delay in responding. I wanted to actually wash the sponges before I responded. I’m happy with them. They seems to do a really good job and the texture is incredibly soft. I use them for foundation, concealer (patting), and blushes. I’m not a big Beauty Blender fan (I have a few but I got them as a GWP) bc I don’t care for the shape – with long natural nails, I find them hard to work with. The larger, oval-shaped sponges in the Sephora pack, work much better for me. Using them slightly damp they do an outstanding job of creating a flawless finish. After cleaning, using Dr. Bronner’s, the one I used for foundation did retain a slight stain although there was no sponge degradation at all. I will repurchase them for sure.
Thank you for the follow-up, Michele!! ๐
Haul: Postcards, small souvenirs, and chocolates from Europe ๐
Weekend plans: Doing my sister’s makeup for prom and trying to catch up from the 6 hours difference. Jet lag is no joke when you’re older lol
Whatโs your favorite genre for music: I live in a Backstreet Boys music bubble lol When not listening to them, I listen to a lot of alternative.
How was your trip, Monica?
Haul: Makeup Revolution Iconic 2 palette and Ultra Blush & Contour Palette in Hot Spice. EcoTools Eye Enhancing Duo Set.
Sadly I think the Iconic 2 palette isn’t working out. I didn’t expect it to be a spot-on dupe for Urban Decay Naked, but I just couldn’t justify spending $54 on another eyeshadow palette and thought Makeup Revolution’s rendition would suffice. Despite the good reviews I’ve seen, the shadows are just too powdery and sheer out on the lid even with a good primer. I can say, “Oh it’s just $7!” But $7 unused is $7 wasted, really. I don’t want to keep something that won’t get used! So I’ll probably just pass it on to a friend’s daughters.
I’ve been eyeing the Tarte Glitzy Lipsurgences on Sephora that are marked down to $12. I didn’t expect that I’d love it so much, but now I don’t think I can live without it! I’ve had mine for 2 weeks and have already used quite a bit!
Weekend plans: Staying with my sister-in-law to help out with her three boys. I think she, another sister-in-law, and I are going out tonight to do something, but we’re all such old souls we’ll probably end up talking and crocheting all night, lol! Hopefully my husband will be able to come up on Sunday night after work for dinner. Wednesday was our 6-year wedding anniversary!
Whatโs your favorite genre for music: Contemporary Christian. I really like Rend Collective (super fun Irish band), Lauren Daigle, Steffany Gretzinger, and I Am They (super fun American band).
I like Contemporary Christian music too, esp. Lauren Daigle. I’ll have to check out I Am They (never heard of them). I’m a fan of TobyMac, Third Day, and Jonny Diaz too.
That’s great!! You’ll have to check out Lauren Daigle’s acoustic videos on YouTube. How Great Thou Art is my absolute favorite–stunning voice!
Happy anniversary, Joyce!
Thank you so, so much, Tammy! I really appreciate it. ???
Oh no! So sad to hear that the Makeup Revolution palette wasn’t even worth the $7 ๐
Haul: I found my Bite Beauty Spring Fling lip set! I bought it almost two months ago but forgot about it. I picked up Visearts Boheme Dream which is of the usual excellent quality. I decided to try out some Morphe brushes, I got 5 or 6 this week. They are of better quality than I expected, as the price was pretty low. Not sure any of them will become must-haves, but they are definitely functional.
I have been continuing with my foundation/BB/CC obsession that started in March. This week I tried samples of the Guerlain BB cream and Meteorites Baby Glow, and I think I will probably end up purchasing both. I love how the Baby Glow color corrects the yellow in my skin tone–it’s perfect for spring, when my skin is at its lightest and I’m craving a fresh, less yellow look. And the BB cream is just absolutely wonderful; no color correction, just my perfect skin tone.
I also “discovered” my Real Techniques beauty sponge, which I’ve had for over a year but did not know how to use so I wasn’t getting good results. This week I got it completely wet under running water, squeezed it into a clean towel to soak up excess water, sprayed it with one shot of FIx Plus, and applied my foundation. Holy mother of God, it makes ALL my foundations, even the ones I was about to throw away, look amazing!
Weekend plans: Maybe a movie, make fish tacos, and possibly grill some burgers.
Favorite music: Alternative Rock.
I’ve been debating getting a RT sponge. I really like the expert face brush for foundation, but maybe the sponge would work better for my clingy-er formula foundations/concealers.
Which Morphe brushes did you get?
I got the M432 flat liner brush for putting shadow under my eyes (I already use it everyday, so I guess that’s a strong endorsement), M501 pro pointed blender (for cheek highlighter application), M438 pointed contour (to set under eye powder), M459 flat contour (use it to place a straight “cut” of powder right under my cheek contour to make everything look neat and tidy), and M523 tapered powder (I contour daily so this is the brush I’m using for the darker powder I place right under my cheeks).
Woohoo! Yay for finding unused goodies ๐
Haul: Nope.
But work through my back log of NARS products I had reviews for.
I did buy some random craft materials instead…. and kind of died a little inside hearing people talking about Anime North in fabric stores… as I’m not going this year/didn’t get a ticket as I wasn’t sure of my schedule with school. ๐
Weekend plans: try to work on my portfolio but most likely to just chill and edit some videos….
Whatโs your favourite genre for music: Again feel bad because I listen to most things but never really hone.
I wish you could have gone!!! But school always comes first. I’ll be there for the fourth time this year ๐
This would have been my 14th year going…. veteran con-goer I guess. lol
I’m mostly going to miss spending time with my con buddies.
I’m taking a 50-week straight course right now so no break till September. ๐
What are some of the NARS products you’re going to review?
Haul: MAC Lipsticks in Witching Hour and Hot Chocolate, and all the new Bite Beauty lipsticks but Thistle (it was too same-y to other things I have in my collection)
Weekend plans: Getting rid of the last of our stuff before our big cross country move. We’re leaving on Wednesday and driving from Chicago to San Diego, with stops in Omaha, Denver, and Las Vegas.
Whatโs your favorite genre for music: I like pretty much everything but new country music. Right now I’ve been playing Iggy Pop’s catalog on repeat.
You’re moving to San Diego? I grew up in Huntington Beach. You are moving to paradise!
Witching Hour! Are you using that with a liner at all, Jenny?
Good luck on your move!!
Picked up a Nars Frivolous lip pencil as a backup, and scored a MUFE crease brush and Anastasia angled liner brush. I’m most looking forward to the freebies in my Sephora orders though – Lancer face polish and Origins foaming clay mask cleanser.
Let me know how the Origins cleanser works out for you!
Hope you love your new goodies, Linda!
Haul: Retin A Micro and Oilatum Natural Repair face cream. Got the Retin-A from my derm a few weeks ago and the Oilatum from Amazon last week. The retinol caused peeling, of course, but I’ve adjusted to it now. My skin had been pretty dehydrated for a while (long before the retinol) and I was piling on my moisturizers trying to deal with it (and I have several high end ones which are pretty thick) but my face still felt tight and my makeup looked horrible. Dehydrated skin apparently means it’s losing water too easily, so I started researching humectant ingredients (glycerin, glycol, squalane, etc) and ordered the Oilatum because it contains several. Dang is it good stuff. Makes my face feel normal and it’s not greasy. I still wake up feeling a bit tight but hopefully over the summer I can level out.
Weekend plans: Food freezing. I like to make big batches of stuff like curry paste or pesto and freeze them, so on future nights I don’t have to go through the effort of getting out the food processor to make something good. Life hack for freezing pesto or pastes: make cubes of them by filling an ice tray, then move the frozen cubes to a freezer bag.
Whatโs your favorite genre for music: Rock n’ Roll or Blues Rock. It’s pretty broad and has moved across decades.
I use Retin A, hope your dermatologist told you to start out slow, once every 3 nights, until you build up tolerance. The two biggest changes I have made to get the flaking under control is to use a BHA/AHA exfoliator after washing my face, and using a heavy moisture mask after my retin A. I apply Retin A every other evening before bed, and then use Paula’s Choice Skin Recovery Hydrating Treatment Mask when I get up in middle of night to use the restroom. I give my retin a at least four hours before applying mask.
Yes at first I could only handle it every third or even fourth or fifth day. Now I’m up to every other day, no more peeling. On the alternate days I use Peter Thomas Roth 10% glycolic acid cream (I think that’s aha, right?) . I actually have been using the same mask from Paula’s Choice but like the Oilatum better. Applying in the middle of the night is a good idea…. I’ll keep Paula’s on my nightstand…
I guess I was trying to give advice to a pro, lol! I will have to try the Olatum. I have also heard good things about Epionce Medical Barrier Cream. I use my 14% glycolic acid twice a day, after every wash, even on the nights I use retin A. It has been the most helpful product to stop the peeling.
So in the evenings you wash your face and apply the AHA, then later on/right before bed apply the retin A? I’ve been applying the retinol right after washing my face in the evening, but then I have to put a heavy moisturizer on immediately or I’ll get too dry. I was thinking the retinol should go onto completely bare skin but maybe I’ve been doing these in the wrong order. Does it matter?
Yes, wash, glycolic acid, wait 20-30 minutes, apply retin A.
Ginny, realized I didn’t give you a complete answer. I did hours of research about retin A about six months ago because my flaking was so bad.I think it was on Paula’s website, maybe the myths about retin A page, where I discovered that I could use glycolic acid before retin A.
Happy to hear that your skin has adjusted to Retin-A! I remember I had serious issues the first time I used Differin!
Awww, what a cute photo ๐
Haul: So many Sephora goodies, I am drowning in them! ๐ The first Sephora store opened in Switzerland last night, woop woop!
Weekend plans: Off to Florence ๐
Whatโs your favorite genre for music: I don’t have a favorite genre per se, but three of my favorite bands/artists are Papa Roach, Fall Out Boy and Taylor Swift (talk about mixing things up, eh? :-))
I just went to Florence, and it was so beautiful. Wish I had more than a day though.
How fun! What are you most looking forward to from your haul?
Haul: Just finished a Colour Pop order. The whole reason I started the order was for the Monster Highlight. And the only reason I wanted Monster is because I couldn’t bring myself to spend the money for Pat McGrath’s skin fetish in nude. Well, Monster is out of stock but still ended up placing an order: Smoke n Whistles highlight, Wisp highlight, Birthday Suit blush, Lumiere lippie, Frenchie lippie, and Panda Ultra Satin lip. Still disappointed about not finding Monster but I’m sure I’ll feel a little better when I get my package.
Weekend Plans: Clean, unpack, laundry. Exciting stuff!
Fave Genre: Classic Rock and Singer/Songwriter stuff. I love an acoustic guitar!
You will like Smoke ‘n Whistles. It gives a nice wet look to the skin and really catches the light in photographs. I have 7 Colourpop highlights and SnW is the standout and the only one I would jump to repurchase (and this includes Monster). Monster is fun, though!
Thanks Ginny. Now I’m super excited!!
Hopefully you get your ColourPop order soon! ๐
I bought Pat McGrath’s Skin Fetish in Nude, played with it everyday for a week, and ended up returning it for several reasons. Today I was playing with my Colourpop eye shadows and noticed Glitterati is similar to Pat’s Nude Skin Fetish, so I popped it on the tops of my cheeks to see how it looked. It really is so pretty, better than Pat’s formula! Some would think it’s too glittery but i think it is perfect for a night out on the town. I put Amaze (also a Colourpop eyeshadow) on the other cheek, and it’s just as pretty!
Tammy thank you for the tips. I’ll take a look at those shadows!
What I read about Jack Black stick indicated that it had no (chemical) sunscreen. If true, yippee! You’ll need it after the Vice marathon. Hugs to the best boy, and hope all readers have a great weekend.
I’m very curious how hydrating it is in stick form! I love the tube, but I like the texture of that (more jelly-like).
Haul: UD Afterglow Blush in Rapture, MAC Beauty Powder in Pearl Sunshine – I am on such a huge cheek kick lately. Should also be coming home to my Play! box.
Weekend plans: Iโm on vacation, so: eat, beach, repeat! Plus the awesome Sarasota Farmers Market.
Whatโs your favorite genre for music: I just keep tuned to Alt-Nation on XM 99% of the time… so I guess indie (I hate that term)/ alternative. But I also like pop… I am one of those “anything but country” people haha
Alt nation–YES! XMU is even better!
I love MAC Pearl Sunshine!
What do you think of UD’s Rapture?
Sadly it was delivered the day after I left for vacay, so I haven’t seen it yet- boo. At least I have something to look forward to when my time off is over!
Rapture! One of my favorites!
Have fun on vacation, Julia ๐
Haul: Pacifica nail polish in Unicorn Horn
Urban Decay lipstick in Catfight (50% off – yay!)
Karora CC Cream (I wanted to try this, and then I found it on clearance – yay!)
Tom Ford Fire Lust: I may have mentioned this last week, because I had ordered it, but I finally got it, and it’s beautiful!
bits and bobs from Nordstrom Rack: Laura Geller eyeshadow trio in Sandy Lagoon, Caudalie Radiance Day Cream, Laura Geller Berry Glow 3 piece set.
Weekend plans: Hair appointment tonight (gotta cover up the emerging gray!). Up in the air the rest of the weekend. ๐ I am going to try to get my blog up and going again! I’ve been taking a social media class (for work) but it’s got me all interested in doing different things (better late to the party than never?).
Whatโs your favorite genre for music: Eclectic – I like pop, rock, industrial… Mostly I just listen to the radio though.
Catfight! Yay!
How are you using FIre Lust?
Well, when I swatched it on my hand first (I do this with everything to get an idea of how it looks/feels), it looked pretty pigmented. So because I’m fair, I thought I could use it as a blush. But it is very subtle once on and blended. So I think now I will mix it in with my foundation or layer over my blush. It kind of arrived at a good time, too, because I was mixing the Buxom Goddess Luminizer in with my foundation, but its “cooling” sensation really bothered my skin, so I need to return it. Too bad, that was pretty stuff. Anything “cooling” or “icy hot” irritates my skin.
Have a good weekend, Christine!
Such a cute Mellan picture!
Haul: Pretty light here, as well. Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Lipstick in Kelp; The Balm Meet Matte Trimony palette arrived (I got it on the flash sale); Ispy Glam Bag & Notroriously Morbid Vanishing Cabinet for May.
Weekend plans: Nothing special.
Whatโs your favorite genre for music: Alternative
Rachel, what are your thoughts on The Balm Meet Matte Trimony palette? I want to add more mattes to my stash, but good mattes are so hard to find, especially in a palette. My fave matte formula is probably Colour Pop, as it holds up well on my oily lids, but curious about the Balm one.
Hi, Katherine. I really like it. The shadows are soft and on the dusty side, but not dry. I have to make sure I tap the excess off the brush, especially with the darker shades. They’re very pigmented, very blendable, and build really well. I think there is a really nice color variety. Probably dupeable if one has a lot of mattes, but I don’t so it works great for me. There’s not a shade light enough to be a highlight on me, but the lightest shade might work for you (I can’t remember your skin tone except that you’re darker than I am. But most people are. ) The pans are huge.
Thanks Rachel for your feedback! It sounds promising but if I do buy, I will be sure I can return it, just in case it doesn’t work out on my oily lids. Thanks again!
You’re welcome. I have super-oily lids. They stay on and don’t crease with primer. I didn’t bother trying without, as I never do that with any eye shadow.
Matte Trimony! How cute!
Oh, I love this! I’m excited to get my first beauty boxes from Birch box and Ipsey. I used to get the Allure box but cx’d because none of the products ever worked for me or were not needed. I also ordered 2 Maybelline Color Tattoo eye shadows, Bad to the Bronze, and the Taupe one, but can’t remember it’s name. I just have too much makeup, Lol, and just bought more, so making my definitive makeup bag. I’ve decided to re up my HG foundation, BM orig in Golden Tan, and now just need the best primer for it since I am 62, albeit no wrinkles, so I look my absolute best, since at my age, “they” say I should be using liquids. Nobody, but nobody is going to take my BM/BE orig foundation! Love oldies, Temptations, Smokey, but Barbra, Johnny Mathis, Sinatra, Garth, an Broadway Musicals, esp Les Miz!!!!! Love you Christine!!
Haul: Nothing but a shirt from Zara (:
Weekend plans: Nothing, just the way I like it. The Body Shop has a 20% off sale this week so I’ll probably drop by to pick up more of my favourite Honeymania shower gel and the cucumber makeup cleanser.
Whatโs your favorite genre for music: Indie-rock, though I love listening to my Explosions In the Sky playlist when I’m studying.
Zara has pretty clothes, but I have never shopped there, lol!
Haul: Nothing this week, after last week’s big haul! I received everything though and loving what I got.
Weekend plans: Dinner with friends.
Favorite music genre: classic rock and folk
It’s always good when you love what you buy ๐
Haul: Mary Kay facial cleanser and moisturizer.
Weekend plans: Meeting with the insurance adjuster about getting our roof replaced. Picking out the final touches for the bathroom (towel bars, light fixture, mirrors). Possibly starting on the kitchen remodel.
Favorite music genre: metal, goth rock, symphonic/orchestral.
Good luck on getting your roof replaced, Alice!
Haul: A new Maybelline lipstick (Gone Griege?) and Pacifica’s “unicorn” mascara from Target, Milani’s newest foundation from CVS (can’t remember the name), some sheet masks from Sephora, and I ordered from Ulta to get the 22 bag of samples (which were fab) so I got some perfume rollerballs (CK2 and Escada) and some Matrix shampoo.
Weekend plans: Probably just watch Netflix since it’s going to rain (yet again).
Genre for music: Pop/rock and Contemporary Christian rock/pop. Right now I’m listening to a lot of Ariana Grande, TobyMac and Prince.
Gone Greige — that sounds really pretty! I will have to look into that!
Pacifica mascara is the best!
Haul: No haul but hair cut and color, so beauty related. I have a big interview today, so I needed to spruce up some.
Weekend: My husband is home for a few days so I’m not sure what he will want to do. He’s driving the bus until he leaves for a year. I’m not ready for it at all. He’d already been gone for almost 6 months. That was hard but he wasn’t going to be in harms way or half a world away.
Music: It’s hard because I love a lot of music but I mostly listen to alternative these days.
I hope your interview went well, Erin!
I hope you had a great interview, Erin!
Haul: (over the last two weeks) Colourpop Are & Be and More Better liquid lipsticks, Flowershop eyeshadow. Makeup Geek Casino, Sin City, Steampunk and Tiki Hut eye shadow as well as the bent liner brush
Weekend plans: Homework ๐ and a trip to Trader Joe’s ๐
Favorite musics: I guess pop/alternative but if I still listened to the radio is would be the 90’s station! Though I love music from multiple decades
Are & Be is such a neat shade! I find it one of those harder-to-describe purple kind of shades!
Haul: Urban Decay Gwen Stefani Spiderweb lipstick. I’d given up on finding this collection available in my part of the world, but there it was and with a 30% discount. Oops?
Weekend plans: birthday celebration with family on Saturday, friend’s birthday celebration on Sunday. When it rains it pours, even the fun stuff.
Whatโs your favorite genre for music: indie pop and alternative rock, soul, classical.
Woohoo!! At least it was on sale ๐
Your birthday, Hildegard? If so, happy birthday!
Thank you! My birthday was actually last Monday, but celebrations keep going strong ๐
Haul-Just got back from a 4 day trip to Seattle and spent a lot of time at Nordstrom’s looking at the makeup counters that don’t exist near where I live. Actually, there are no Nordstrom’s in Western Montana that I am aware of so the closest Nordstrom is in Spokane and they carry only a few lines. So my daughter and I spent a day wandering around and picked up a few things from Charlotte Tilbury, Chanel, Tom Ford and La Prairie. I am not sure if they were desperate for sales or what but the counter staff were driving us crazy. I don’t mind a few “can I help you”, “are you looking for something special” type interactions but there must have been 3-4 for each makeup line and they were constantly at our elbows. I think we bought from the lines we did because they were the ones that left us alone long enough to actually swatch and look! I knew there was a reason I usually shop on-line. It was nice to be able to see things in person and compare colors and textures. On-line I rely a lot on lines that I am familiar with and know how their colors tend to run. All in all we had a great day together and attended a concert that night.
Weekend Plans-Really pretty boring. My mother is a hoarder in the clinical sense. It has been a constant struggle and this is the summer to begin another clean out of her house. I have been putting it off because it is so traumatic for everyone but it reaches a point where it becomes a health issue so this weekend is when I will approach her with the idea of it this week. I always have to talk to her about it for awhile before I can get her to agree to try. It is so sad.
Music-I am really a music lover and grew up in the late 60’s and 70’s so my music taste spans several genres except like many others, no real country and western. Right now I have been enjoying a lot of Prince in memory of the purple one.
Sending you strength and good wishes dealing with your mum – a very difficult and delicate situation that you all face.
I feel like after you shop online for awhile, shopping in-store gets harder!
I hope you enjoy some of the new goodies and brands you got to check out, Deborah ๐ Sounds like you had a good trip overall.
Good luck cleaning out your mother’s house! She is lucky to have you help–even when it is difficult for everyone!
Hauled a Paula’s Choice SPF buy one get one deal. Plus new deodorant.
What deodorant did you get?
It’s a brand called Fat and the Moon on Etsy. “Lil sensitive pit cream” haha I’m searching for my natural deodorant that both works and doesn’t make me rash out!
Nothing, I mean NOTHING like a good belly rub!!! Mellan looks ecstatic! My 3 kitties also love getting belly rubs, especially the big guy, El Scunch!
Haul: Nothing yet. May go out later for either a b/u of UD Streak, or a tube of Naked (if it looks good on me, that is!).
Weekend plans: The weekly hair ordeal. Possibly a fresh Mani/pedi, the one I did last Saturday with CG Awakening is so pretty, but it’s chipping, so probably. Meeting on Sunday. Plus a home project I’m dreading. ?
Favorite genre of music: It varies depending on my mood. 99% of it is either dark, edgy Alternative (90’s to present) & New Wave(80’s), or Pop/Hip Hop, or R&B. These move me to get up and dance or sing!
Affectionate cats are awesome! I feel like I only knew a few over my life thus far, and a lot of them were the “don’t touch me” cats, lol!
Mine are pretty affectionate towards me, but the 2 females are skittish around people they don’t know well and they’ll hide. Scunci will investigate any newcomers, he may even let them pet him! But once he warms up to someone, he will give head bonks and purr!
Christine, cats are generally jerks, don’t take it personally! (I have three furballs that I love dearly, but I can still say unequivocally that sometimes they are the worst! ๐ )
Haul: one of the MAC Pro Longwear Waterproof Colour Sticks in Copperpot, and the YSL Mascara Vinyl Couture in “I’m The Excitement” (the green shade).
Weekend plans: Not sure yet
Whatโs your favorite genre for music: I kind of listen to everything. I like the Top 50’s type stuff, and classical, jazz, blues, pop, rock, r&b, hip hop, etc. Pretty much everything except for full-on country or hard rap.
How are you liking Copperpot, Anne?
It’s quite creamy and pigmented. it’s not perfect, but it was one of those post-doctors-appointment consolation prizes (I do not want to think about what I may buy after my upcoming spinal surgeon appointment…). I like the shade itself and it glides on well, though I’ve heard better things about the Laura Mercier, By Terry and Bobbi Brown ones, but have yet to try them.
OMG, the green YSL mascara, I want this one so badly but wanted to see a review first. What do you think of it?
Tammy, reader Michelle has swatches and reviews of the new YSL green mascara on her blog. She has the gold one too. On her Temptalia comments, she usually posts a link to her blog, and you can find the reviews there.
Forgot to mention, if you have dark lashes and need a white lash primer to make color mascaras “pop”, I recommend the Diorshow Maximizer Lash Primer. I’m not really into color mascaras, but I have oily lids, wet waterline, and straight lashes, and this primer really makes my regular black mascaras last longer and my lashes fuller and hold curl. It’s been a game changer for me. I had a bunch of “meh” and underperforming mascara samples I was going to throw out until I started using the lash primer underneath.
Your dog is so cute!
Haul: Bare Minerals Translucent Powder Duo, Bobbi Brown Eye Blender Brush, and a Viseart palette in “Cashmere.”
Weekend Plans: My family and I are going out for seafood for my sister’s birthday. I’ll probably also edit blog pictures and catch up on Gilmore Girls. (I’m trying to finish before the reboot)
Favorite music genre: I like pretty much everything, but country.
Lupe, are you liking the Viseart palette? I got the same one for Mothers Day and I really love it. The colours are just my favourite sort of neutral assortment.
So far yes! I did get some fallout, but I love the looks I can create with them.
Cashmere! Such a pretty palette.
Have a great dinner, Lupe!
Haul: Sephora Secret Keeper and Roasted Chestnuts eyeshadows, L’Occitane Almond Supple Oil and Almond Delicious Soap.
Weekend Plans: We have to start weeding and mulching the flower beds (it’s been rainy and/or cold or we’ve had company every weekend up to now); finalizing plans for a NYC trip with a friend/former neighbour who’s never been; for sure the gym tomorrow morning (I keep saying that!)
Music genre: I really don’t have one; I will like particular songs but they cross all musical genres.
I’m like you Mariella — I like songs more than specifically artists or genres, though there are artists who have more songs I like than don’t like, ha ha.
Enjoy your gardening!
Haul: nothing, but I’m going to the mac store tomorrow morning to pick up some Vibe Tribe lipsticks. I also reached that moment where I kind of ran out of everything (from makeup wipes to foundation) so I might make a quick stop at the drugstore.
Weekend plans: studying for finals unfortunately.
Favorite genre for music: I love hip-hop, r&b and pop music. I’m also into jazz
Have fun at MAC tomorrow! ๐
Good luck on your upcoming finals!
Haul: did a short haul at the local Kam Man. (Chinese superstore complex.). Added 3 Asian products to the Paula routine, used twice, and got compliments on my skin. OMBFG. The products are not Korean, but Japanese. Got Clear Turn red package sheet masks w/ astaxanthin and haematococcus, Turn Clear White masks with arnica, serine, hypericum, ivy, grape, horse chestnut, etc. and My Beauty Diary dark circles eye masks. Those plus a gift of Clobetasol, and my eyelid psoriasis is clear! Have yet to score snail, fake snake venom, or starfish…and did not opt for the donkey milk. One old round eye in a sea of Asian product and customers. Amazing. Fortunately, all had English stick on ingredient labels and picture directions. For anyone interested in adding in some Asian skincare, I suggest reading the Reddit Asian Beauty 101. Sheet masks are the gateway ‘drug.’ Kam Man had Hada Labo at prices unlike Barney’s. On to Aritaum!
Well, my gizzards are off, so I stopped by to ‘call in’ for night job.
Genre: strictly classical for tune delivery. Liking Vaughan Williams and Hovaness especially these days. Jussi (dachshund), not unexpectedly, likes Wagner and some Mahler. Do confess to watching Empire and Nashville, though, in a very closet fashion. My friends would not stop howling with laughter. But those are my only hip hop and country exposures.
Wow! I might have to try and see if I can find any of those miracle products here. You’re making me want them!
He is so gorgeous! I bet he loves his tummy being rubbed.
Haul: Real technique brushes for blending, skincare products and that’s about it.
Weekend Plans: Going to visit my brother in law’s niece on Sunday, who has just had her second baby. They live up in the country, so it will be a lovely drive to get there. I am bringing her family a basket of goodies too. (lasagne, salad, slices). So I will be cooking up a storm today.
Favourite Music: Country (Emmylou Harris and Folk.
How fun! Have a lovely drive to the country and enjoy your visit with family!
Haul: Haaahaha, I picked up two UD Revolution lipsticks (69 and Sheer Ladyflower) (I LOVE them. I love them aaah goodness), a green NYX Vivid Brights liner (not the color it looks like it was going to be but I actually like it, so it’s fine), NYX HD Concealer, and CoverGirl Clump Crusher mascara. I don’t usually haul like this but I just started my new job and I had a few extra dollars.
Weekend plans: Work work work as usual. Coworker is coming thru on a favor tomorrow and buying me lunch though, so that’s nice!
Whatโs your favorite genre for music: Pop, for sure. All flavors! I love Top 40, I love electropop, I love hip hop (which isn’t really pop but it has a big influence on it).
Hopefully you like the new UD formula as well!
Ha! Just beginning! I’m in Las Vegasfor a few days for work so I hit Nordstrom last week to get a few new Chantecaille shadows to finish my 8-pan palette – bought Almond, Olivier, Granite and Coriander. Also picked up Tom Ford pink cream blush, Orchid Haze quad, Lavender Voile highlight/corrector pen, slate eyeliner (new mechanical version – that pigment does not budge!) and the clear shimmery gloss tube.
Ran to Sephora for some foot cream (Samba Foot Fetish Cream – supposed to absorb fast) from flying and walking through the conventions halls all day and seemed to have left with Bite lipstick in Sake, Burberry kisses lipstick in Stone Rose with matching liner, another Nars Damage lipstick and a Dior Milky Glosss in Milky Plum. Oh, and the sample/holiday duo of Sunday Riley Luna Oil and Good Genes. Love both products to death, but traveling with the little sample jar from Sephora wasn’t getting it done for me and the trial jar is perfect for the length trips I take and my nightly usage.
That may do it on the cosmetic front (I think), but I have two more major shopping areas to visit as research for my work. I just may happen to buy some shoes while I’m there…Louboutin and Weitzman are demanding my attentions.
Totally forgot the other Qs!!! Alternative 100% and weekend will be working my annual meeting, so no fun plans beyond my shopping escapes and trying to sleep
Hope you had a good time in Vegas, Lea, even if it was for work! ๐
Mellan is so spoiled…and so happy!
Haul: Tom Ford Pieno Sole, Lancome Visiionnaire Spring Set, and a Clairins gel eye cream (from NM gift card promo and 15% off eBates); Diorskin Nude Shimmer in Rose Glow.
Weekend plans: It’s going to be mid-70s to low-80s starting this weekend, so I’ll be outside enjoying the weather. Will also be packing away winter clothes and unpacking summer clothes.
Whatโs your favorite genre for music: Typically pop and some alternative but I’m open to the genre of any song that catches my ear.
He is!
How do you like Pieno Sole so far, Tracey?
Haul: Look fantastic: Pixi makeup wipes, Shiseido sleeping mask and Stila Smudge stick in Moray
Sephora: 2 Sephora eyeliners, Dr Jart+ set, Tarte Rainforest of the Sea deluxe hydrating duo skincare set, Belif set, 3 samples
Plans for weekend: went to stay at a big house rented for the weekend by my future MIL and her 3 friends to celebrate two of their 60th birthdays. The (older) children came too. Our 2 year old just loved the garden, we live in a flat in the city so it’s hard to just let her play out for long enough. It was so relaxing and we all really enjoyed staying.
Favourite music genre: Soul, blues, soft rock,
