Look - Cherrylicious Lips and Cat Eyes

This was yesterday’s look – wanted to try out So Scarlet lipstick and Cult of Cherry together, and I thought maybe I’d try out some darker lips later on, so I kept the eyes pretty simple. I tried to do a cat-eye, but it didn’t quite work out. I haven’t done one in a long time (albeit, I’ve probably only done three in my lifetime), and stupidly, I didn’t bother to look at a few online before I went to work on mine, LOL. I wasn’t going to do lower lash line in black, but it looked so funny without it. Gah! It was one of those days.  What brush do you all use for upper lash liner? I normally use the 208 or 210 (the angled one, I always get them confused), but I used the 266 this time, didn’t love it. 🙁 ADVICE, please!

At least the lips were hot. Hopefully everybody stared at those instead of the liner 😉

Today, the boy and I are off to the Monterey Bay Aquarium (and Mellan will be spending the day with my mom, aka being spoiled rotten and swimming all day!). I’m hoping to do a look using some non-MAC products (at least eyeshadows…) for the trip 🙂

P.S. YOU CAN FIND LOOKS CATEGORIZED BY COLOR! Several people expressed interest in seeing looks categorized by color, so they could easily find looks… they always have been arranged this way! If you go to the navigation bar and roll over “Looks,” you’ll see a drop down menu that shows several colors and a “view more” option. Click view more and you’ll see all the looks’ categories. If you can’t find something, read our How-to: Temptalia guide! Hope this helps! 🙂

You will need the following…

  • Eyes: Soft Ochre paint pot (creamy neutral base), Next to Nothing eyeshadow (soft pink-toned highlighter), Grain eyeshadow (light brown highlighter), Blacktrack fluidilne (black gel liner), Graphblack technakohl (black), Plushlash mascara (black)
  • Cheeks: Blooming blush (soft pink)
  • Lips: So Scarlet lipstick (deep red), Cult of Cherry lipglass (cherry red)
  • Brushes: 266 (firm, angled brush), 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 129 (dense blush brush)
  • Substitutes: Next to Nothing = Vanilla; Blooming = Micro-pink; So Scarlet = Viva Glam I + New York Apple; Cult of Cherry = Russian Red

Directions: Define brows using a coordinating powder shadow applied with the 266 brush. Apply Soft Ochre paint pot all over the lid as the base with the 249. Apply Next to Nothing eyeshadow all over the lid and brow area. Darken the outer lid using Grain eyeshadow and drag into crease using the 239. Sweep Next to Nothing underneath the brow bone to highlight. Line upper lash line using Blacktrack fluidline and create a cat-eye with the 266. Finish with Graphblack technakohl on lower lash line, and Plushlash mascara on lashes. Sweep apples of cheeks with Blooming blush using the 129. Apply So Scarlet lipstick to lips, and then top with Cult of Cherry lipglass for color and shine.

How hard was it to keep up with those lips all day? Whenever I wear dark colors on my lips, I’m always freaked out about how it’s looking – is it fading, is it bleeding, is it clumpy…I can’t stand it!

whitnee Avatar

i totally agree, i’m paranoid about how my lipcolor is wearing and i feel so vein pulling out a mirror every 5 minutes to check myself out lol.

Oh my god Christine!

My husband peeked around the corner and asked if I was okay because when I opened this page I said “OOOOOHHHHHHH!!!”

I ADORE THESE LIPS!!! They’re so fierce and sexy.

Hey girl, about the eyeliner brush – you might wanna give Urban Decay’s wonder brush a go. I use it to line my cream/gel eyeliners without a cinch. 🙂

i know you have issues with lining the top lashline, but i have to say i LOVE the cateye liner on you!!! hope it doesn’t make your eyes all irritated this time 🙂 have fun at the ‘quarium — i went there when i was little and i still remember how fun it was (yeah i’m a nerd, i know).

hey christine! fabulous as always!

for the cat eye, what i do is i take the 208 brush and mark how high i want the tip to be by tapping the brush straight on then when i see it’s about the same (you have to eye ball the marks) i go from the tip inwards down to the lash line. one of my MA’s showed me how to do it and i do it all the time now. it’s pretty easy once you get the hang of it.

you look gorgeous and the way you do your cat-eye is so pretty!

Love it, girl. So pretty!

Just out of curiosity, did you buy any backups from CoC? Because I love this collection so much I’m seriously debating the backup issue…

I like the 209 or my angled eyeliner brush from Sephora for my fluidlines. The 209 took a lot of getting used to (and yes I poked myself in the eye the first time I tried using it) but I like it now.

I almost want the lipstick/gloss combo you are wearing but how does the color compare to the red flame orange flicker pro longwear? I know a woman can’t have too many reds, but I don’t wear them enough to keep buying many of the same hue!

I didn’t think much of Blooming when I swatched it…but it looks so pretty on you. That is why I’ll be picking it up tomorrow ;)! Cheers.

OK so I compared your lips from the Red Flame (pg 14 if anyone else wants to see) and compared to this one. So Scarlet is more red. But they are similar in bright factor. So I “may” just buy the COC gloss and pair it with the Red Flame when I am so inclined. Save myself the purchase of another lippy.

I’m a daily cat eye wearer, and I like to use the 266 brush its my fav. The “trick” I use is to just line in a straight line at a slight angle, don’t follow your lid …. hopefully that makes sense. Your look doesn’t look bad, but I’m assuming you wanted the line thinner and the corners sharper? Well, don’t worry that lip combo is gorgeous and bound to get all the attention.

Wow Christine! Those lips look awesome! I didn’t get much the first time I went for Cult of Cherry. Then I saw your Blooming blush swatches (for some reason it didn’t look appealing to me in person) and I had to go back for that, now I want to get those lip colors!!! They look so good together. I am also a daily cat eye wearer. I can’t go without it, but seriously the best eyeliner that I have found for that is the Almay liquid eyeliner with the felt tip brush (it kind of looks like a little inkwell). It is so cheap-like $6-$7 and is easy to take off if you make a mistake. I have fluidline but rarely ever use it. The consistency is a little thick and dry (IMO) for a neat cat eye. Hope this helps.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME? (yes, I’m screaming lol) Your cat eye is perfection. This looks so hot on you! Add a red flower to your hair and go dancing. ALL eyes would be on you!

Christine your lipstick is fierce!!!!! I bought both of those colors and was hesitant to wear them together until now. I also bought Rich & Ripe, it also looks good over So Scarlet. I wore it earlier this week and got some compliments! I bought two of each product I bought.

I hate that these great colors are limited additions. Has anyone ever bought MAC products from Ebay? There are products I didn’t get from the last couple of collections.

Dang! Now this is fantastic!

Perfect for prom or say, a work holiday party this December??!!

I think the cat eye looks fine; granted, I’m no cat eye expert by any means, but I think it’s just more of a “day” version than a night time super sultry look, ya know?

Anywhoo, looks fab!

Ooh Sexy!
I have the Cult of Cherry Lipglass, I never thought i could pull off a strong lip, but I wanted a change from the nude lip. I need a really good l/s to add intensity. Recommend a few ladies to work with my Cult of Cherry.
Thx in advance

FANTASTIC. Great to see you trying different styles out, and you were BORN to rock red lips! Love, love, love.

I think you could have winged out the eyeliner quite a bit more. It definitely paired well with the lips – great choice!

Finally: Your eyebrows are looking better than ever, may I say.

Hi Christine! This is such a hot look, I love it. I think you look great with thick upperlash liner, and your full lips totally pull of the red lips in a nice way. Although your eyeliner could definitely look better, the cat eye still works. Wow, Monterey Bay Aquarium! That’s near where I live, and I love the aquarium. I love to touch the sting rays, hahaha. Have fun, and I’m definitely looking forward to seeing your looks!

You’re wearing one of my all time favorite looks and what I think is the easiest once you’ve got the liner down. When I do a look like this people always complement it but it seriously is my lazy look because I can do it in 5 minutes.
For a perfect cat eye, I use the 266 or 210 brush, the 208 is to dense for me. Start by lining the upper lash line very thin and stopping just before the outer corner. Then with your eyes open, mark the point just short of where you want your cat eye to end. Draw straight down from that point towards the underside of the outer corner of the eye. This creates a kind of a checkmark. then you can go back and fill in the curve and extend it if you want. I keep the liner pretty thin on the inner half of the eye and it’s thickest just on the outer corner. I don’t do lower liner with a cat eye, just a little shadow in the lash line with mascara.

Christine!! I’m so mad, my local MAC ran out completely of the So Scarlet, just the day after I tried it on and fell in love! Is New York Apple a really good substitute? The So Scarlet was so perfect I don’t think any other color would measure up.
