Rant & Rave: Coral Blush

Tell us what you love and hate about...

Coral Blush

Hard to do anything but rave over coral blushes for me… perhaps my only “rant” is that a lot of the ones that release are very, very similar.

I agree with you there, Christine! How many different variations of coral blush can you make?! LOL
They all seem quite similar these days.

Hmmm…I put coral blush in the same category as all of those warm neutral eye palettes. They’re considered a universal option even though they’re sort of not. I do find myself looking for the brightness of a coral when I look for light, cooler-toned blushes.

Rave: they seem so hugely natural! My cheeks have horribly blotchy redness from years of acne and it doesn’t look particularly lovely in my opinion. Over a foundation that covers that up? So. Stunning. Can’t say enough about coral blushes and warm skin.

Rant: a lot of the time, “coral” equals “shimmer.” Also, WHY on earth can no one come to a consensus on what coral as a color is? Too warm, too cool, almost straight-up orange sometimes. That irritates me lol.

I love coral, especially pinky-corals, but they definitely do not love me! They always pull orange, which is my least favorite & least flattering color. So I guess my biggest beefs are that they are soooo common, and that they are always touted as being good for anyone. No. I wish, but no.

My rant – it is not a colour that suits me at all. I have 2 or 3 coral blushes – Benefit Coralist, MAC Early Morning, a Papa Don’t Peach that came in a palette and probably one or two others that came in palettes (rather than me actually choosing to purchase them). I do try….I honestly do – but they simply don’t look as nice on me as cool toned pink, rose, red or plum blushes do.

On me, they just don’t look natural and don’t harmonize with the natural colour of my lips. Early Morning actually has a really beautiful finish – not garish or bright and it has the loveliest sheen. It just isn’t a colour that looks good on me and I’m so sorry I didn’t get the pink blush that was released at the same time.

Corals can sometimes pull too orange on me, so I have to be careful and swatch before buying.

That being said, I find coral blush looks more natural than pink or plum. And a highlighting coral blush is a summer favorite for me. Particularly Hourglass Incandescent Electra /swoon

I love the way coral blush looks on other people, hate the way it looks on me — it just looks orange against my very cool undertones, and stands out in a way I don’t particularly care for on my cheeks… it just doesn’t look natural on me. I’m all for wild and crazy colors on my eyes or lips, not so much on my cheeks… of course, purple lipstick, even if it doesn’t look exactly ‘natural’, does at least look like it belongs on my face, it’s not clown-like on me.

For myself, nothing but huge raves! It’s my absolute favorite shade for blushes. I think corals are super-flattering on me. It perks up my entire face, keeps cool or gray shades from making me look dead, and it goes with just about any look. I think there are a good variety of shades, from almost peach to pink-leaning to almost red.

Like any other color, they’re not going to work for everyone, but I think most people can find a version they look good in.

I agree there is nothing to rant about coral blush. Lovvvvve it. But then again I am a neutral who leans more warm so coral is my jam!

I adore coral blushes, they look more natural on me than pink blushes which can look a bit too doll-like on my pale skin if I’m not careful. No rants from me here, but they must be coral, not orange, which is a whole different animal! Peach is also gorgeous, it’s the right side of orange to be wearable for me.

I love coral blushes. It gives you just a hint of color to coordinate with most lipsticks. I keep it handy just in case I need a pop of color. I think it is a universal-flattering shade for women of color.

I especially love a pink leaning coral in the spring and summer, but if the shade is too warm or orange, it doesn’t look good on me. Since I’m so madly in love with Illamasqua Cream Blushes, from their last HauteLook sale I got both Dixie and Rude. They haven’t shipped yet, but I’m cautiously optimistic that they will work for me, if not, they’ll look good on my sister as her coloring is warm. From the swatches I could find online it looks like Dixie leans more pink and Rude leans more orange, so we’ll see, but at only $9 (plus tax and shipping) each, it’s worth the risk.

When I do my makeup, I tend to stay with similar/coordinated tones though, and since I mostly wear pinks and purples, I go with those blush shades. I like to use coral blush with neutrals or summery (gold, teal aqua etc) eye looks.

Ooh, probably said 100X that coral is not my color. Pink coral is poor, but orange coral is possible. That said, the rave is that coral blush can be blended satisfactorily to look okay. Coral lipstick is not wearable and a coral tee is just awful, worse. The more orange a coral is, the better I like it. Pink coral in a l/s draws more negative attention than bright orange, because it simply clashes. In a blush, it can be ok, but I don’t gravitate to it. The Hourglass family…only have the original lighting palette… is not flattering. Only the ‘mood’ shades look pretty good. Any color can be ‘helped’ by sheering it out, if it’s not the best when intense. BTW, I love corals on others, but somehow it just reads wrong on me.

Rave! I absolutely LOVE peachy, coral blush that leans warm. It’s my go-to along with neutral bronzey shades. I stay away from anything too pinky.

Coral is my absolute favorite blush color. In summer it makes my golden skin (NC44) radiant! It’s so sexy to see golden skin in coral! (When I was pregnant 2x, each time I hoped for girls so I could incorporate the names Coral or Coralina as either first or middle names. But I got boys both times!)
