Lancome's L'Absolu Rouge Lipsticks Coming Soon!

WWD reports Lancome will launch a new lipstick called L’Absolu Rouge, from their Rouge Absolu line, in September. The lipstick will be the first to contain Pro-Xylane, an antiaging molecule panted by the brand’s parent (L’Oreal). The entire line will have 36 shades, each with SPF 12. The US will see 15 shades launching this fall, each retailing at $29.

So, anti-aging properties in lipsticks — is it your cup of tea? Lancome isn’t the first brand to do it, as higher luxury brands like Cle de Peau already work that angle. I have to say, $29 is steep for a lipstick when it comes to my budget. I also am skeptical about just how much treatment my lips need – I mean, I’m more concerned about the wrinkles around my lips than the ones on them!

We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! I’m a sucker for lipstick (hence, my user name LipstickChick in most forums lol), so I HAD to get one of these (they’re already out in my area)!

I totally agree — $29 is insane, and Lancome’s pricing overall is starting to rival that of Chanel and others ($34 for an e/s duo!) — but I had to try it, and I have to say that it feels fabulous on. No scent — a HUGE plus for me — and no aftertaste or chemical taste to seep into my mouth (another big plus).

That said, I didn’t see a huge number of shades that were suitable for me — many seemed darker, berry-er (lol) than I’d ever wear — but at the end of the day, that’s a good thing, because I can’t afford to fall in love with $30 l/s on a regular basis lol.

Eh, my lips aren’t wrinkly and don’t seem to be in any danger of it, judging by my mother and grandmother, and $29 is a bit on the expensive side for lipsticks – that’s two MAC lipsticks!
