Free for Haul Friday, Volume #330

Share any beauty goodies you may have picked up in the last week or so, or maybe what’s on your way or on your wish list for next week or month. 🙂

  • Haul: Too Faced La Matte lipsticks… stupidly, I bought and expedited shipping on 9 shades (thinking there were 9, but there were 10), so I have to wait for the last shade to get here, which will hopefully be today!
  • Weekend plans: Photograph/swatch stuff!
  • What’s your favorite thing to do on a lazy day?: Brunch!

Share your pet photos to the Temptalia Pets flickr group! 🙂

Mellan looks so cute with those Easter eggs, xoxo for him from me and the boys.
No plans for the weekend.
Watch movies is my favorite thing to do on a lazy day.
Have a great weekend Christine.

Haul:
Beauty.com: Jay Manuel Beauty The Ultimate Lipstick (Vice)

HSN (20% Off): Jay Manuel Beauty Soft Focus Powder Blush (Awake – deep rose shimmer)

MAC: Eye Shadow x 9: Pastel Times Nine, Pro Eye Makeup Remover Sample

Neiman Marcus: Molton Brown Heavenly Gingerlily Body Polish, Body Wash, Body Lotion, and Hand Crème, Molton Brown Orange and Bergamot Body Wash (GWP), S16 Beauty Event Tote and Samples (GWP)

Nordstrom: Aveda Hand Relief Night Renewal Serum, 3 Free Samples

Sephora (3 Orders): Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Lipstick (Gin Fizz), MUFE Lip Fever: Passion Pink Lip Collection Artist Lip Balm (Flushed Cherry), MUFE Lip Fever: Passion Pink Lip Collection Artist Acrylip (Fucshia), Milk Makeup Eye Vinyl (Bridge), Dr. Brandt Needles No More Deluxe Samples (2), 9 Free Samples

Weekend plans: Mani. I want to re-swatch MAC Pastel x 9 bc I’m not happy with the pic but it depends on my motivation. I think I have a dozen or so reviews in my list to do right now (2 MUFE lippies – the new ones, Jay Manuel lippie and blush, MAC, Milk Makeup, Chanel – the Organdi polish in the new formula, YSL, probably forgetting some) – I’ve swatched and done pics for 9 I think. So…maybe get some reviews posted. Probably get together with my daughter for lunch at some point.

What’s your favorite thing to do on a lazy day?: What is this lazy day you speak of?! But, if I did have a lazy day, depending on my mood, I’d probably either go out with one of my good friends for a day of wandering and lunch or stay home and alternate between reading and catching up on tv/movies.

Michele @Binxcat4ever Avatar

Jenny, I haven’t reviewed the palette yet (or tried it for wear) but I plan to tomorrow – and will probably post on my blog tomorrow or Sunday. I can tell you right now that based on swatches, which I already did, a lot of the shades are powdery. The lightest shade, Fresh Innocence, isn’t even visible on my fair skin. The darker shades seemed to be a bit more pigmented. The light blue shade is a darn close dupe to the Lancome blue in their Spring palette. I do like the fact that MAC dropped their prices on their palettes so the cost for Pastel is cheaper than the original 9 Times pricing. But I’ll have a better idea after I really get into testing it.

Jenny Cupcakes Avatar

Haul: Surprisingly… nothing. I did just get my City Color shipment the other day, loving everything so far.

Weekend plans: Help my husband’s friend move 🙁 and lunch with my in-laws 🙁

What’s your favorite thing to do on a lazy day?: Video games or Netflix… also lots of napping.

Katherine T. Avatar

Mellan looks like he’s ready for Easter!
*Haul – my first Kiko order came! Soft Touch Blush in Dark Rose, Metallic Shine Shadow in Absolutely Rose & Charming Sage (they remind me of the Clarins Ombre Iridescent shadows), Long Lasting Shadow Stick in Bright Ivory, and Water Shine Shadow in Olive Green. Have only swatched on my hands, but it looks promising -everything is very pigmented and smooth
*Weekend – rest
*Lazy Day – sleep in, play with makeup, read beauty blogs

Katherine T. Avatar

I know what you mean! $ 14 is really expensive for a Kiko shadow, but I had to order stuff to get free shipping. I usually wait patiently for sales/promos, but I was worried the Dark Rose blush was getting DC’d, so I bit the bullet and put in my first order. The Water Shine shadow is gorgeous though, very silky and nicely pigmented swatched (haven’t tried on eyes yet), and that wavy, curvy design is stunning, reminds me of the Hourglass Modernist shadow palettes.

Katherine T. Avatar

Will do! I’m on the tail end of the cold, and have a huge backlog of shadows to test, and I have to test some of the other stuff first because it only has 30 days return policy (11 days left and ticking!) , but will let you know how Kiko goes as soon as I get to it. BTW, you have some great makeup reviews on your blog, interesting products. Does your blog accept comments or not? If not, no worries, not a problem, but if it does, let me know how to leave a comment. I’m not very tech savvy, so I could’ve missed it.

Michele @Binxcat4ever Avatar

Oh no – still sick? Hope you can finish kicking it out soon!
I’m not tech savvy either; still trying to figure out what I can and can’t do! The blog doesn’t accept comments yet but it’s on my list of things to work on. My priority was trying to get it back up and clean up a section I wanted to discontinue (I had been doing daily updates on sales but it’s just too much to do properly with a f/t job). I had to figure out the new basic coding bc it was changed in the time my blog was down. I’d also like to see if I can create an easier search feature bc I’m not thrilled with the current Tag Cloud. Anyway, stay tuned!

Katherine T. Avatar

No worries, Michele! I can’t imagine working F/T and blogging, too! Maybe when I retire, I can blog for fun LOL But just wanted to let you know I enjoy reading your blog and looking at your swatches 🙂 To catch up on testing makeup, I might have to pull a “Temptalia” this weekend! I did that one Saturday, had green/yellow/gold shadows on one eye, and purple/red/pink on the other one, with dark purple blush, and red lipstick. I was walking around the house ALL DAY like that, and hubby didn’t notice a thing! I’m going to slap on some green lipstick next time LOL But the toddler kept pointing to my purple/red eye and saying “mommy ouchie, mommy ouchie” Well, at least someone noticed!

Mindy Avatar

•Haul: Nothing! I may return my Kiehl’s serum because I think It’s breaking me out.
•Weekend plans: Girls night tomorrow and start planning for my son’s second birthday. Going to do some hiking and might even get in a massage and facial as well.
•What’s your favorite thing to do on a lazy day?: Brunch is a good one, but I’d love to just lay in bed or on the couch and read a good book.

Genevieve Avatar

With a two year old, I don’t think you get any lazy days! I have a two year old grand daughter, Olivia, and she is just one bundle of energy. Two year olds have lithium batteries inside them with no “off’ switch. So I really understand that having a little lie in bed is such a luxury for you!

Julia Avatar

Haul: Wayne Goss 02 Brush (LOVE), the enormous pans of Becca blush and bronzers that I now must find homes for, and the Tarte Rainforest of the Sea palette. I like it, but the circle of wasted space in the center bums me out- I wish they had included a circular pan of shimmery highlight shade there; would have been a perfect addition. Also, I just don’t like round palettes because it keeps rolling around my palette drawer!
Weekend plans: Nothing too exciting- bang trim, get my car washed
What’s your favorite thing to do on a lazy day?: Sleep in!

Sarah Avatar

Haul: Toms from Hautelook, but no more pretties for me until I hit pan on something.
Weekend: House of Cards until my eyeballs fall out.
Lazy Day: wear my husband’s sweatpants and play with makeup.

Tammy B Avatar

Haul: Bobbi Brown Lux Lipstick in Pink Buff

Weekend plans: My cats have worms. Packing up all three and taking them to bet. There goes my March beauty budget☹

Lazy day: I love to spend the day in my pajamas on the couch, watching my favorite shows and reading.

Tammy B Avatar

My babies are avid hunters and that’s how they got the worms. I’ve tried to keep them inside but they get so dejected and depressed that I end up letting them out. They are happier, but it sure gets expensive for me to keep them free of worms and fleas.

Haul: Ulta — at the Urban Decay event at my local Ulta last Saturday, the MUA did such a beautiful job on my eyes that I ended up buying the UD x Gwen Stephanie eyeshadow palette, although I hadn’t been planning on it — I think it’s a nice palette that will work well with my Urban Spectrum palette, but I really don’t need it, I would prefer a similar, but cooler-toned palette… come to think of it, it will also go well with my NARS L’Amour, Toujours L’Amour palette, because, although I like that one very much, it is a bit dark form me — the lighter shades from Gwen will mix well… hmm… maybe I’ll keep it after all! I need to play with it some more; I also got the Gwen Stefani brow box and like that a lot, good cool taupes that go well with my brows, and super-cute. Sephora — I stopped in to look at the new Bite lipsticks on Wednesday, but they weren’t in yet — looking around, I made a total impulse purchase that turned out to be WONDERFUL — NARS Sheer Lipstick in Damage is far and away the best MLBB shade I’ve ever found for my lips — makes them look just a bit pinker, less dusky, with a soft shine — absolutely my own lips, dressed up a bit! Very nice!
Weekend plans: I’m going to read and rest up a bit after a difficult week, while looking at the pretty little bit of snow we got this morning and getting used to my new progressive eyeglasses (2nd prescription — the first one was totally wrong, they had to replace the brand-new lenses they gave me first time around!) If I get rested enough, start in on re-organizing my bedroom/office/workroom.
Favorite thing to do on a lazy day: read, or knit while listening to audiobooks 🙂 If my son’s having a lazy day, too, we play Scrabble.

Michele @Binxcat4ever Avatar

I ended up with the Stefani palette after not planning on getting it. I tend to go for cooler palettes too but I found the Stefani one makes a really pretty daylook! If you try one of the top 3 lightest shades as your base, Baby or Stark on the lid, with Anaheim or Zone as contour (plus a touch/light hand of Serious for a mini kitten eye/outer crease edge), it actually makes for a cool-ish day look that works well with a bold or subtle lip.
Hmmmm will have to check out Damage!

Fran Avatar

Michelle, I’ll try your ideas. I do like Anaheim and Zone for contour (in my case, they’re ‘hood’ shades). It is an overall nice palette. The MUA did a really nice, very light sunset eye on me with it, that looked really nice.

Damage works as a MLBB for me because my lips are basically kind of a dusky purple to begin with — it’s quite different from most lipsticks that get described as MLBB shades — they almost always have too much peach or brown in them to be anything like my lips.

Michele @Binxcat4ever Avatar

I feel you – I have hooded eyes too…I consider it a reverse contour! For me, I find it’s better to try to stick with matte or at least satin shades in that area to create more of a sense of depth.
I have pretty pigmented lips as well. I took a look at Damage and it looks like it would be a good MLBB for me as well – so thanks for the recommendation!

haul: anastasia brow wiz, sephora brand gel eyeliner (on sale), and colourpop ultra satin lips – london fog, marshmallow, mess around, toolips, and prim
plans: skiing and relaxing
favorite thing to do on lazy day: sleeping mostly

Carolyn Avatar

Usually I only have to work a half day on Fridays so I like to get my laundry and cleaning done right away. That way I have a clean house to hang out in and clean sheets to sleep in on all weekend. I also like to do all my running around during the week so I literally don’t have to leave the house on the weekend if I don’t want to. I know that sounds kind of horrible and lazy but isn’t that what weekends are all about? I am going to be trying indoor rock climbing for the first time tonight which is exciting. As for a haul, I like to hit the mall on my way home on Friday and wander for a bit so nothing yet. I would like a new pair of sneakers and maybe something sparkly… Of course Sephora will be on my list of stores to visit but I think that can go without saying.
Have a great weekend everyone!!!

Kimberly Avatar

Haul: Limecrime’s Venus 1 palette (hate the brand’s business practices but this is a really good product whose dupe I couldn’t justify paying twice the price of; also, actually purchased this from another user so there was lesser chance of a security breach), Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in ‘Mojito/Moheato’, Rimmel ‘Punk Rock’ nail polish
Weekend plans: Studying/homework, and buying my new BB cream. The one I have is pretty much done, all it squirts out now is oil no matter how hard I shake it.
What’s your favorite thing to do on a lazy day?: Watch a movie or go shopping.

Kimberly Avatar

I ended up just getting the same one, Estee Lauder’s Daywear Anti-oxidant BB cream with SPF50. I really wanted to try a mattifying one but my skin is such a bizarre combination of dry/oily/sensitive that I figured it was better to stick with what I was already using. I’ll probably just use an oil-control primer or powder with it, if I can’t deal.

Pteetsa Avatar

I found all my Easter eggs, Mom!

Haul: Natasha Denona Glow Powders in Light and Medium and Indian Gold eyeshadow
Revlon Eye Art Lid+Line+Lash in black, pink, and copper. This pretty much completes my collection. 🙂
YSL Black Opium perfume (and I got a sample of Armani Code which is very nice, so I’m going to get a travel size or a small bottle of that). Christine, have you tried Black Opium? It has notes of vanilla and coffee, and it smells a little oud-y to me. I was thinking it might be something you would like.

Weekend plans: Go see The Revenant.

What’s your favorite thing to do on a lazy day?: Read, drink tea, cuddle cats, nap. It pretty much goes in that order, too.

Kat Avatar

Haul: It was my birthday this past Sunday, and I got a bunch of gift cards and cash, so I kind of went a bit crazy… I got The Balm Manizer Sisters palette, Sigma E58 Cream Eyeshadow brush, NARS Kari eyeshadow, NARS Hot Sand/Laguna duo, NARS 413 BLKR liquid illuminator, NARS Vivien lipstick, Formula X collab nail polish with Cupcakes and Cashmere in “Latte Run,” Urban Decay Fishnet eyeshadow, Urban Decay Backtalk matte lipstick, and Urban Decay Scorch eyeliner. Wow, that’s a lot, especially since it’s mostly high end…

I actually got the UD eyeshadow and liner for free, since I had the code for a free eyeliner then right before my birthday, they switched the birthday gift to a free eyeshadow (not with a code, in like an “add on at checkout” type system) so I was able to cheat the system a little and I got both for free with the lipstick! The NARS Hot Sand duo, liquid illuminator, and lipstick haven’t arrived yet but I’m so excited. The Formula X nail polish is probably my favorite nail polish ever, it’s the most perfect creamy light beige with a hint of pink, and it’s OPAQUE in two coats. I’m so sad it’s limited edition.

Weekend plans: Study for midterms, write midterm papers!

Favorite thing to do on a lazy day: Netflix and Reese’s peanut butter cups (I like the mini size best!).

Celia Avatar

Awwww! Give Mellan the usual kiss/belly scritches combo from me. Love him with his Easter eggs. Monster’s been enjoying some new toys as well but he’s so very destructive to them haha. Despite being so small, I have to give him big dog chews and toys because he goes through them too fast and bothers Gus (the 17-year-old) to give him his if he runs out too quick.

No hauling this weekend, but I did just place a big Looxi order since they reopened today after site maintenance. I already have Ever After, Luna, and Voodoo in my highlighter Z-Palette and love them so I picked up a bunch more highlights, a couple Kickers (their liquid/more intense illuminators, and a few Aurora shadows. And the owner of Fyrinnae has tragically been diagnosed with cancer, so I placed a max-sized (they top out at 100 USD) order recently and will be making another one. That way I can grab all the shades I’ve wanted but have been waiting on to expand my Fyrinnae collection, but I can also support the owner’s treatment with my orders hopefully. So sad. And Black Milk is having a release in a few days, so there’s a couple clothing items I want to pick up. Then a low-buy after that to recharge my wallet. So big Looxi, Fyrinnae, and BMC hauls for upcoming weekend discussions but nothing this week.

Oh wait! Not true. I finally got my hands on Melt’s DC’d shade DGAF, which is a lovely cobalt-purple lip color. A friend had an unopened extra. So that’s one off my Unicorn list. Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Christine Avatar

After seeing how most people’s dogs treat toys, I’m not surprised! Mellan is one of the least destructive dogs when it comes to toys – but he will demolish anything edible in seconds!

I didn’t hear that about the owner of Fyrinnae – that is so sad to hear! 🙁

Celia Avatar

They wrote a little note on the site regarding the diagnosis right around when I placed my last order 🙁 Hoping any orders can help with health expenses. Looks like they’re not open right now but when they reopen again I’m definitely putting in another big order and plan on sending well wishes. Site says they’re aiming for around the 8th but of course delays and closures are expected and necessary during tough times like this.

Celia Avatar

I’m glad you’ll be doing the same 🙂 While it has been a while since you’ve reviewed them, I know how much you enjoy their shadows and your reviews have always been very helpful to me when narrowing down my orders (and adding more things to those orders haha). Thought I’d let you know I was able to place a big order today, though the site did say to expect some shipping delays of course. They’re such a great company and seem like they have a great team. Hopefully the owner’s receiving all support necessary.

Jenny Avatar

Hi Christine. It’s my first time commenting and I want to start by saying how much I enjoy your blog and have made it my “go to” when I’m scoping out something I’m interested in purchasing.

My haul for the week (need to make a “I got my tax return yay” disclaimer as this kinda week won’t come again for another year): Nordstrom: YSL Touche Eclat Blur Primer and Le Teint foundation in BR40 and the YSL “Y Brush”, Tom Ford lip color in “Casablanca”

Sephora: Laura Mercier Matte Radiance Baked Powder in Highlight 01 (thanks, loving it!) and her Eye Art Artist’s Palette, Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush in Incandescent Electra, Marc Jacobs Style Eye-Con palettes in The Starlet & The Vamp, Tarte eyebrow mouse, lots of their “Pro” brushes for eyes and face

Neiman’s: Kevyn Aucoin The Gossamer Loose Powder in Diaphanous, Cle de Peau concealer in “Almond” and their eyeshadow quads in: Stardust (302), Baby Universe (303) and Pewter Veil (311)

Ulta: Lorac Pro Eyeshadow Palette 2 and Unzipped

I hope you have a great weekend and I’m looking forward to seeing what you get up to with the swatching. 🙂

Tova J Avatar

Haul: Mom got me Kat Von D Tattoo Liner and Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Lolita while she was in Stockholm <3 I'm so glad to finally get to try KvD! So far I love the products!
Weekend plans: Hmm I should study but nothing special!
What’s your favorite thing to do on a lazy day?: Wear pjs the whole day 😀

KY Avatar

Haul: Amuse Bouche lipstick in Chai, L’Occitane hand Cream, Caudalie Grape Water spray, a ton of Sephora Collection Rouge Lip Infusions (on sale)

Weekend plans: hit up a home remodel/build expo for ideas on our forthcoming basement finishing and landscaping projects

Lazy day plans: SLEEP!

KY Avatar

We want to put a family room and a smaller bedroom in the basement level. It’s subbed for a full bath but I already have three toilets to clean so I’m not too jazzed about adding another one down there! Haha!

Gillian Avatar

I like to do as little as possible at the weekends! I’d sleep all day and listen to music non-stop the rest of the time. I don’t do TV or movies I’m afraid. Music is what I live for!

As for a haul here you go (although I’m bound to have forgotten something):

Becca Afterglow palette (love!)
Laura Mercier Matte Radiance Baked Powder in Highlight-01 (also love!)
NARS Pro-Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base (best eye primer I’ve ever used full stop)
Rimmel Wonder’Full mascara (massive fail!)
MAC Constructivist Pro Longwear Paint Pot (I adore Paint Pots and this is no exception)
Tom Ford Patent Finish Lip Color in Stolen Cherry (man do I love this- so shiny yet it lasts forever on my picky lips!)
Clarins Instant Light Lip Balm Perfector in 04 Orange (one of my favourite tinted balm formulae)
Guerlain La Petite Robe Noire lipstick in 61 Pink Ballerinas (so pretty and glossy looking, plus it feels nice on and smells really nice!)
Bobbi Brown Brightening Finishing Powder in Porcelain Pearl (just started using it and I would say that it definitely brightens, but I’ve still not quite made up my mind as to whether it was worth the purchase ?)
Benefit The POREfessional License to Blot stick (a little baby sample from eBay that I’m still experimenting with so no outcome yet)
Estée Lauder Pure Color Envy lipstick in Infamous (such a perfect pink in one of my favourite formulae so it was a must!)
Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra 24H foundation in 005 (I do grudge having to mix in some white foundation to avoid floating head syndrome but, despite this, I do still love its staying power and it really is a great foundation)
Lancôme Shine Lover lipstick in 314 Spontanée (I’m really drawn to lipstick/balm formulae these days and although this isn’t my absolute favourite it’s still nice)
Dior Rouge Dior in 667 Rouge Pimpant (I LOVE this colour and I’ve always liked this formula ?)
Dior Addict Gloss in 856 Iconic Red (pigmented, sparkly, red gloss – need I say anymore?)
Dior Diorskin Nude Air Glowing Gardens Illuminating Powder in 001 Glowing Pink (I’d been hunting for this for ages since I didn’t want to buy it online and, of course, it was in the last place I looked, but at least I found it and think of the calories I must have burned off running around!)
Urban Decay Electric palette (bright pops of colour are definitely my thing so from the moment I heard about this I knew that fate would, eventually, bring us together ?)
Urban Decay Sheer Revolution lipstick in Sheer Streak (not much to say other than ‘love’!)
Urban Decay Afterglow blush in Score (shimmery, warm pink blush? Yes please!)
Urban Decay x Gwen Stefani lipstick in Firebird (OMG this is such a beautiful colour – an instant favourite and go-to for nights out…not that I go out so it’s maybe more appropriate to say that it’s perfect for wearing whilst cooking and cleaning!)

Phew, that took ages to write up! Bear in mind that this is about two months worth and last month was my birthday so pretty much all the money and vouchers I received went on the above. As long as all my bills are paid and I’m fed and watered and have transport then yes, some of what’s left inevitably goes towards either music or makeup. Yes, I have no life, I think we’ve established that! ?

Gillian Avatar

I tend to make my own playlists. I’ll listen to whole albums then once I know what I like out of what I’ve heard it goes into my ‘current faves’ playlist. Then every month or so I’ll start that playlist over. I like a wide range of music so I’ll go from Heavy Metal to K-Pop to Electronic and so on and so forth. ?

As for what I’m loving the most, that’s a hard one since I’m enjoying a lot of things just now. At a push I’d say the Laura Mercier Matte Radiance Baked Powder highlighter and the Urban Decay x Gwen Stefani lipstick in Firebird since I’m a highlighter and lipstick fiend at heart. Mostly lipstick though if I’m honest!

Have a great weekend Christine and give Mellan a huge hug from me! ?

Kimmwc03 Avatar

Haul: I finally ordered Armani’s Luminous Silk foundation since Sephora brought out the travel size for $42. I had been wanting to buy for a few years, after trying a sample. I think I prefer Guerlain’s Lingerie de Peau though.

Weekend plans: Maybe see a movie if my husband is interested. Likely, we will just watch Netflix (finishing up Fuller House).

Favorite thing to do on a lazy day?: Netflix!

Nancy T Avatar

I’ll bet Mellan’s having fun chasing those!!! ?

Haul: MAC Spring Flock Blush (Woohoo!), MAC Lucky Green pro pan eyeshadow, UD Revolution Lipstick in Streak (waaay better than The Fashion Flock one by MAC!), FAB Ultra Repair Pure Mineral Sunscreen Moisturizer spf 40, Hada Labo Skin Plumping Gel Cream, Skincare Cosmetics Retinol Anti-Wrinkle Facial Serum, Essence Gel Eyeliner in Midnight In Paris, Jack Black Intense Therapy Lip Balm Shea Butter & Vit. E, my Sephora birthday perk, Marc Jacobs Duo (I LOVE Blaquer for my tightline!!!), redeemed 100 points for a Bite Amuse Bouche lipstick mini in Radish.

Weekend plans: Definitely doing hair, nails still look ok, food shopping, laundry. If I get ahead of all this in a timely fashion, I’ll head over to the park to watch the ducks & geese, and enjoy looking at the water.

What’s your favorite thing to do on a lazy day: Depending on the weather, it could be just staying in and hanging out with my kittehs and sipping hot cocoa, or a mojito! Love baking homemade gluten free cakes when I have enough time and nowhere to go, also. Very satisfying and therapeutic! Hanging out by the water. Here, it’s just lakes, but back home in NJ, it was the ocean!

Katherine T. Avatar

Oh is it your birthday this month? Happy Birthday! And I love MAC Spring Flock, has now become one of my top fave blushes.

Erin Avatar

Haul: Nothing. Tragedy struck again and most of the tax return went to the emergency vet. My dog is worth is every penny and I’d do anything or lose anything to keep him healthy. I may still spend some $$$ on me just because I’m pretty sad. I want to get my mom some skincare for her 65th that she can’t afford as it’s been a long time since she’s had anything nice.

Weekend: Keeping it quiet. Last weekend was hell and Elroy (my dog) is under docs orders to keep it quiet and still. I’ve bought a slew of easy cook freezer foods and will snuggle him on the couch through a netflix fest. I’ll probably finish Fuller House and then move on to something else. Maybe House of Cards as I’ve not seen it.

Lazy day: PJ’s, Movies, and if I’m ambitious enough homemade brunch. I usually make hashbrowns, sausage bacon, fruit salad, a savory scramble and mimosas if it’s for a crowd or if it’s just us it’s blueberry pancakes, bacon, and mimosas.

Nicole Avatar

Cute toys! I can’t believe it’s almost Easter! We had snow last night!
Haul: palette city all of a sudden again: Too Faced Pb& J , Tarte Rainforest of the Sea (love this) Haute look brough TheBalm NudeDude,BalmJovi, and Meet matte Nude ( which is not looking too hot actually swatched . But I dated a Matt for a long time So, I had to photo this and sent it to him, lol!) Other stuff: Blush-urban decay TMI, Nars Gina, and TheBalm Instain in Houndstooth ;free UD single shadow in Bender for my Birthday month;tTouch in Sol Honey Glow primer ( this is good, but the applicator is awful); Finally, Armani Fluid sheer #2, and my CP ultra-satin lippies just arrived! Can’t wait to try those out! On the way: the new Tarte foundation and the Natasha D. powder highlight and the Nordstrom Now palette supposedly shipped this afternoon. I think that is it.
i also got a pair of sandals I am loving from DSW for a great price..Tahari Margaret. I got taupe and had $10 for my bday month plus $10 off for leap day so they were less that $50! I think I will be getting black too. Im also loving Steve Madden Daynna. Tough choice..So comfy and stylish. I’m totally pumped for the warm weather!
weekend plans: ugh: well, if I ever get to it. I need to run errands and do the typical chores. Cookie booth for her girl scouts on Sun. I am swamped with work though. So, i have a feeling i will be working most of it. 🙁
Lazy day: getting a pedi/mani

Katherine T. Avatar

Nicole, can you let me know how that Balm Meet Matte Nude palette performs for you? I read a glowing review by another blogger and was eyeing it, but sounds like your initial swatches aren’t looking too promising, hope it’s not curse of the matte shadows again

Anne Avatar

Haul: I picked up the UD Color Corrector in Mint (yaay covering redness!) and on the non-makeup end I finally got a pair of Converse Chuck II’s. Soooo comfy!

Weekend plans: Not sure.

What’s your favorite thing to do on a lazy day?: It varies. Used to be things like baking or going for a walk, but nowadays it’s limited to Netflix mostly.

Anne Avatar

It is! It’s the same formula as their concealer, so it’s not too thick which works well on my dry skin. I swatched the UD one along with the ones from YSL, Sephora Collection, Smashbox, Armani, and Becca and for me it was the right shade of green (the YSL and Becca ones were too dark) and had a higher coverage than pretty much all the others, and was serum-y without being too water-y (the Sephora one was waaay too liquid-y so it streaked while the YSL, Becca, Smachbox and Armani ones were too thick and heavy).

Mariella Avatar

Haul: Lise Watier Age Control Filler Concealer (I’ve heard it’s great; I sure hope so!); Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Powder (for my daughter, to add to her birthday gifts); 2 of the Sephora Z palettes; Shiseido Patina/GR 707 cream eyeshadow (these are being discontinued in Canada; I was DESPERATE to get this particular shade; the cosmetician at SDM simply let me have – for free, though I did ask if I could BUY it – the counter sample, which had been put away as the product itself wasn’t available – I don’t think I’ve been this excited about a makeup item in weeks!); a double pack of LRP Anthelios facial sunscreen; Becca Backlight Priming Filter. Whew!

Weekend plans: not sure; I should go to the gym but I’m really good about making excuses not to!

Favourite thing to do on a lazy day: go fabric shopping, do some baking or simply take it easy and listen to an audio book and fall asleep!

Genevieve Avatar

What a gorgeous photo of Mellan with his toy Easter eggs.
Haul – nothing really.
Weekend plans: Having a birthday BBQ dinner for both my grand daughter (born March 4th ) and my husband (born March 5th) this evening. So I am very busy getting this organised.
Tomorrow we are taking Olivia to an Animal Farm.
Favourite thing to do on a lazy day: Definitely brunch too, followed by a walk in the hills and then settling down with a good book.

If Mellan is trying to be cuter than those Easter eggs, he’s succeeding!

Haul: Marc Jacobs Wine Not nail polish, Clinique Heather Pop blush, and the Estee Edit blush in Purr Pink (of course!).
Weekend plans: We should have the vanity/master bath redo completely finished this weekend. I’m hoping to take my daughter shopping for some maternity clothes, too.

The MJB polish is a gorgeous color but I had trouble applying it. It was starting to set (dry?) before I could finish getting the polish onto the entire nail. I’d take polish down the center of the nail, then, when I painted the sides, the new polish seemed to pull some of the existing polish off. Is this typical with MJB polishes, or is this particular bottle/shade just being fussy? I’m thinking of buying another shade but I’m hesitant.

As for the Estee Edit blush, I haven’t had the opportunity to use it (or the Clinique one) just yet. I’m confused by the description — “custom blend the two shades to create your perfect blush” — when the shiny, silver shade on the right just appears to be an overspray?? I will give you my thoughts after I try it!

Christine Avatar

I don’t recall having issues with MJB’s formula applying or drying down too quickly – it is one of my favorite formulas, actually! And I have NO patience for polish that needs patience to apply right! That being said, I don’t think I have Wine Not.

I don’t know what Estee Edit is talking about – they seemed like oversprays to me – couldn’t find anything but one color, lol!

Haul: Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Lipstick in Black Truffle (LOVE!!!!!), and GWP Algenist Color Correcting Mini in Green (if it is a mini size, I can’t imagine how big full size is). I caved and got MAC Flamingo Park Eyeshadow Palette and Have Your Cake lipstick.

Weekend plans: None

What’s your favorite thing to do on a lazy day? “Lazy day?” What’s that? It seems like we’re always going 100 miles an hour.

Tammy B Avatar

I have enjoyed the Flamingo Park palette, I will be interested to read your thoughts after you’ve had a chance to play with it. I am also thinking about picking up Have Your Cake. This whole collection has been one that suits me well.

Bah! Late to the party. Oh well, it’s still Friday, right? Right? (I had to look it up >.>)

Haul: A few things. I saw a recent Kathleenlights video where she was taking about this Formula X five finger nail polish remover that looked to me like a dream, so from Sephora I purchased that along with Burberry nail polish in Oxblood (yay! I really hope the color is as gorgeous in person as it looks online) and a Ciate London mini paint pot in Moondust. Since I had a lot of accrued points I’ve been wanting to use up I also got a Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche mini in Radish, Marc Jacobs Beauty Fineliner Ultra-Skinny Gel Eye Crayon Eyeliner mini (longest name ever), Dolce and Gabbana Dolce perfume mini and the L’Occitane Winter Essentials 500 point thingy.

I also got in some makeup from hautelook that I bought a million years ago. Some Kevyn Aucoin products: The Skin Tinted Balm in SB01, The Look Book, The Eye Pencil Primatif in Defining Purple, The Dew Drop Creme to Powder Foundation in DW05 and lip gloss in Hydraa. Love everything but the foundations-they’re going to need some adjusting to make work. From Laura Geller: Luminous Veil Cream Stick Foundation in Fair (LOVE the color of this), Baked Balance-n-Brighten in Porcelain, Italian Marble Lipstick Duo and Garden Party 6-Piece Collection which has a bb cream that’s too dark for me but I can gift that away. What I was really looking forward to though is the Breathless Palette by Julie Hewett. No talc or parabens-I honestly think it’s my first talc free eyeshadow product. The colors really do swatch beautifully, literally every single color is pigmented-I can’t wait to use it!

Weekend plans: Grocery shopping, maybe a long walk if I feel up to it. Mostly sleep.

What’s your favorite thing to do on a lazy day?: Right now all of my days are lazy and I could do with a change, but I’d say my absolute favorite thing to do on a lazy day (which I will do as soon as the weather warms up) is to sit outside, either on a porch or on a blanket in the grass and read/draw/have a picnic/whatever else.

P.S. Mellan looks so cute! Omg he makes me miss having pets.

Christine Avatar

So glad you were able to score some minis, Nicole! I’ll be curious to hear how you like the new Bite formula 🙂

I’m impressed that Julie Hewett’s brand is still around – mostly because I haven’t heard about it in a really long time but remember reviewing it maybe eight or nine years ago!

Nicole Avatar

Thank you! I’m curious to find that out myself! Your swatches have been so gorgeous-they really have me looking forward to it!

Oh wow, I had no idea the brand was that old! I just saw it on Hautelook and decided to buy it. I really couldn’t find many reviews for that palette in particular, so I figured it must be a pretty unknown brand.

Haul: MAC haul: Flamingo Park beauty powder in Pearl Blossom, lipsticks in Nice to Meet You, Have Your Cake and Flocking Fabulous, Zac Posen lipsticks in Darling Clementine and Dangerously Red, free mini of MAC Prep + Prime face base. Such an AWESOME haul! Just love the colours! I’ve now ordered 4 of the limited edition eyeshadows as you can’t get the eye palette here in the UK. Two of the 9 eyeshadows were pulled and one of the blushes (as another reader commented on Temptalia). I don’t know the reason why though ?.

Anthroplogie: Tocca’s Meet the Girls mini perfume set. So cute!
Salon Skincare: Decleor travel skincare set
I’ve done a mini Sephora haul so will look forward to that when it arrives soon.

Plans for weekend: My mum and dad are staying until Sat morning when they drive down to France to go skiing. They babysat for us this eve (Fri) so we could go out for a meal, it was at an upmarket bar/restaurant. Full of hipsters, haha! I wore a long black top and jeans with Alexander McQueen sequinned skull slippers (the only designer clothing item I own!), I had a shimmery smoky eye courtesy of my MUFE Artist 15 palette and my new Have Your Cake lipstick, just love the matte, almost neon mauve! No other plans for the weekend, just food shopping and chilling out.

What’s your favorite thing to do on a lazy day? Sleep in! With an active 2 year old, it’s so nice to just relax and sleep and switch off.

Love Mellan’s puppy dog eyes, how can you resist him?!

Claire L Avatar

It is! Last night I just picked Isabel, found I really liked it and wore it, I hadn’t sniffed any of them before. I have now, following your question and it’s funny, Isabel is my favourite! Have you tried them?

Haul: Mac Pastel x 9
Weekend Plans: Cleaning the house, lazy weekend otherwise. It’s soup weather here, so I’ll probably spend Sunday making a few soups for the week.
Favorite thing to do on a lazy weekend: Lay around in my pjs and cook/bake while reading or watching my shows, or spend the morning playing with makeup and meeting my girlfriends for lunch.

Pearl Avatar

No because it’s not June yet! 😛 God knows I’m going to stare at it for 2 months, then think about swatching it in May and then maybe actually using it in June. Kidding. Sort of. I really like that I got a sampling of pastels in one small palette, especially since pastels are not really my thing. I figure they are stand alone for a light look or I can always layer them over a cream to add more depth. I am going to play around with it tomorrow or next weekend.

Haul: (for my mom) Connie Steven’s Forever Spring Beauty System refill, nail imaging system, eye radiance. (for me) Maybelline burgundy blush matte, Connie Steven’s stick foundation in honey, Wet n Wild brow tamer-using as clear lip liner-works beautifully. Elf everyday eye lashes.
Weekend plans: Clean out the truck, fix inner and outer truck handles, so I can stop climbing over the console! Replace windshield wipers. Possibly shampoo upholstery.
Favorite thing to do on a lazy day: Veg out on Temptalia, Nouveau Cheap, Musings of a Muse, and YouTube subscriptions. With lots of coffee and my kitty. 🙂

Haul: MAC Rubenesque paint pot (to compliment or heighten Tom Ford’s Sphinx cream eyeshadow), MAC Pro makeup remover, TF lipsticks in John, Giacomo & Xavier, Bobbi Brown corrector, BB cream shadow stick in Dune & a 4-pan palette for blushes. Pre-ordered TF’s Fire Lust.

Weekend Plans: Enjoy warmer temps, recoup from an exhausting week, maybe start next season of House of Cards.

Lazy weekend activity: At this time of the year, watc sports or go out for lunch or coffee.

Here’s to a great weekend!

I took advantage of the ELF free shipping deal to get even more Matte lip colors. Love those things, and they’re $3! I also got a matte lip pencil from Wet n Wild called Smoked Hickory that I’ve really been liking formula and wear wise. My only complaint is that the shade is not much like the color on the barrel, but I do like it and don’t have any dupes, so it’s not awful that it didn’t match.

Oh yeah – and my weekend plans include recovering from my week! I’m in the Army and I just had PRK (corrective eye surgery) and they said sleep helps the healing process, so that’s me all day today. I might go get some work done on my tattoos, but it’s not even noon yet and it’s not warm enough for me to get out of bed. Next week is going to be really busy at the hangar (I’m in Aviation) so I’m trying to rest up.

Lazy Day – Lay in bed all day and nap/watch Netflix. I have like 400 things on my queue and sometimes I’ll binge-watch one genre.

Kristene Avatar

So far the Poppy Picnic palette, the brown KVD liquid liner (my FIRST liquid lining experience ever, went okay so far), the primer and Benefit mascara, ABH brow gel, and all three of the Sephora blushes at different intervals. The Poppy Picnic palette might be my new favourite thing ever. The colours are all matte and totally work with my N4/N5 skin.

My biggest complaint is the ABH gel. It smells terrible – not only that, but I think the Elf brow gel is slightly tackier upon application and allows for a little more quick shaping with my pinkie before it dries. ABH knows brows, so I’ll give it a few more chances, but the Elf is like 7 dollars so I mean, not a huge hit to buy another.
